W.F. PEEL
W.F. Peel, age 80 of Chipley, Fla, departed this life on Feb. 13, 2000, in his home. A lifelong resident of the area, Mr. Peel owned and operated Peel and Van Electronics for 45 years. He was a member of Kiwanis Club and member of Chamber of Commerce. He served as a chief in the United States Navy during World War II. He was a member of First United Methodist Church of Chipley. Mr. Peel enjoyed spending time with his family, golfing, fishing traveling and weekend farming. He was a "daddy" to many a friend to all. He will be greatly missed. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Ouida Mitchell Peel of Chipley; his daughter, Mavis Peel Moseley and son-in-law Frank Moseley of Dothan; his daughter, Elaine Peel Adams and son-in-law, Eugene Moseley of Dothan; his brother, Coy Peel of Panama City; his sister, Genear Peel Hooks of Fort Myers; his grandchildren; Melissa Cauley and her husband Doug Cauley of Chipley, Marla Thurman Gore and her husband Hal Gore Jr of Chipley, Mary Grace Adams of Pensacola and Mandy Adams Warren and husband Craig Warren of Graceville; his great-grandchildren: Justin Cauley, Kennesse Cauley and Emily Grace Gore, all of Chipley. Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. today, Feb. 15 at First United Methodist Church of Chipley, with Dr. John Dickinson and the Rev. Carl Collett officiating. Interment will follow at Glenwood Cemetery with Brown Funeral Home directing. Memorials can be made to First United Methodist Church of Chipley, 1285 Jackson Avenue, Chipley, FL 32428 or Hospice of Northwest Florida Inc. 2917-B Optimist Dr., Marianna, FL 32448 in memory of W.F. Peel.

WILLIE MAE PERKINS
Mrs. Willie Mae Perkins, 87, of Vernon, Fla., passed away Feb. 13, 2000, at Northwest Florida Community Hospital in Chipley. Visitation will be held Wednesday, Feb. 16, from 6 to 8 p.m. at Peel Funeral Home Vernon Chapel. Funeral services will be held Thursday, Feb. 17, at 11 a.m. in Pleasant Grove Methodist Church with the Rev. Greg Hammack and the Rev. Lavelle Enterkin officiating. Burial will follow in Pleasant Grove Church Cemetery. Mrs. Perkins is survived by her husband, Johnny R. Perkins of Vernon; sons, Jimmy Perkins of Vernon and Ronald Perkins of Pensacola; daughter, Elizabeth Ann Glenn of Vernon; half-brothers: John Alfred Kolmetz of Caryville, Henry Helton Kolmetz of Panama City, Doyle Kolmetz of Fort Worth, Texas, Victor Kolmetz of Crestview; half-sisters: Bertha Jean Padgett of Vernon, Everlye Bryant of Fort Worth, Alscie Strickland of Ebro; 20 grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren and 19 great-great grandchildren.

MANGRAM RUFUS CHAVERS
Mr. Mangram Rufus Chavers, 83, of 2604 Minnesota Ave., Lynn Haven, Fla., died Monday, Feb. 14, 2000, at his home. Born in Milton, Fla., he moved here in 1935 and was a retired electrician. He was also a member of First United Methodist Church of Panama City. Mr. Chavers is survived by his wife, Hattie B. Chavers of Panama City; one son, Thomas R. "Tommy" Chavers and wife Judy of Youngstown; one daughter, Carol T. Heath and husband Joe of Panama City; four sisters: Inaree Nobles, Arlene Taylor, Ruth Norris all of Pace, Fla., Hilma Barnett of Marshall, N.C.; two brothers, Harvey Chavers of Milton, Fla., and Tildon Chavers of Pace; six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted on Thursday, Feb. 17 at 2 p.m. in First United Methodist Church of Panama City with Dr. Doug Newton, Dr. Al Rowell and the Rev. Si Mathison officiating. Interment will follow in Greenwood Cemetery. The following gentlemen will serve as active pallbearers: Greg Chavers, Chris Chavers, Matthew Wiggin, Robert Bryan, Sammy Chavers, Denny Caswell and Keith Gorsuch. Honorary pallbearers will be: Bobby Brannon, Billy B. Snell, Earl Lunsford, Tim Hubbard, Dr. Warren T. Hitt, Dr. Owen Reese, C.P. Fulford, Hillman Brannon, Jimmy Hentz, Jack Grant, Sandy Andrews, Hugh Thacker, Horace Posey, Jack Yohn and T.K. Johnson, members of Wesley Bible Class, Moss Hill United Methodist Church, members and friends. The family will receive friends at the funeral home this evening from 5 to 7 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to First United Methodist Church of Panama City Memorial Fund or building fund in memory of Mr. Chavers.

DEAN DAVENPORT
Colonel Dean Davenport (USAF, Ret.) 81, of 503 Bunkers Cove Road, Panama City, Fla., died Monday, Feb. 14, 2000, in a local hospital. He was born on June 29, 1918 in Spokane, Wash. Graduating from Portland High School in 1937, he studied law at Albany and Northwestern colleges in Portland, Ore., leaving school to enlist as a Flying Cadet, U.S. Army Air Corps, on Feb. 7, 1941, and receiving his commission as a 2nd Lieutenant upon graduation, Sept. 27, 1941. He was a member of the Doolittle Raiders, a pilot of a B-25 that bombed Tokyo during World War II. He also participated in 86 combat missions during the Korean War. His numerous decorations include: the Silver Star, Legion of Merit (with two Oak Leaf Clusters), the Distinguished Flying Cross, Air Medal, commendation medal (with one Oak Leaf Cluster), and the Chinese Army, Navy, and Air Corps Medal, Class A, 1st Grade. Colonel Davenport was the technical advisor for the movie version of Ted Lawson's best-selling book, Thirty Seconds Over Tokyo. He served as commanding officer, Tyndall Air Force Base, from 1957-59. His distinguished military career ended with his retirement from the 35th Air Division, Hancock Field, Syracuse, N.Y., in 1967. He is survived by his loving wife, Mary L. Davenport of Panama City; two sons, Dean Davenport Jr. and his wife, Diane of Birmingham, Ala., Stephen Davenport of Atlanta, Ga.; two daughters, Mary Lee (Mimi) Davenport of Atlanta, Ga., Julie Fierman and her husband, Terry; grandson, Dean Davenport III all of Birmingham, Ala., and a niece, Diane Hardin and her husband, Mike of Colton, Ore. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 9 a.m. in Wilson Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Si Mathison officiating. Interment will follow in Fort Barrancas National Cemetery, Pensacola, Fla., at 1:15 p.m. with full military honors conducted at graveside. The family will receive friends at the funeral home today from 5 to 7 p.m. Those desiring to may make contributions to the Si Mathison Retirement Home C/O First United Methodist Church 903 E. 4th St., Panama City, FL 32401 in memory of Dean Davenport.

MARIA R. DEMIRANDA
Mrs. Maria R. DeMiranda, age 89, of Panama City, Fla., died Sunday, Feb. 13, 2000, in a local nursing home. She was born in Ponce, Puerto Rico, and was a lifetime resident of Old San Juan, Puerto Rico. Her last years, she spent in Panama City, Fla., with her daughter and family. Maria was a lifetime member of the Dioceses of St. Francis of Asis in San Juan, Puerto Rico. She assisted Father Bernard in visiting and bringing comfort and happiness to the sick and the ones in need. Her artistic hand for many years prepared beautiful and delicate flowers and table arrangements. She was also blessed with a "green thumb," all her plants grew healthy and beautiful. She was a loving mother to five children, her five "pearls" as she always said; She was a devoted daughter, who took care of her mother and grandmother. Everybody loved her, she touched so many lives and brought so much happiness during her life. Marietta or Maricuchi, as she was lovingly known was special, wonderful, and unique. Her great love and kindness will always be in our hearts. She was caring and always giving. Maria was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Rafael, and her oldest son, Jose Rafael. Maria is survived by her daughters, Gladys M. Lauer and her husband Robert of Panama City and Maria A. Martin and her husband Frank of Davie, Fla.; sons, Manuel A. Miranda of Panama City and Jaime R. Miranda and his wife Katherine of San Juan, Puerto Rico. She was blessed with many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; eleven grandchildren: John Merced and his wife Theresa of Panama City, Jessica Figueroa and her husband Ivan of Caparra, Puerto Rico, Michelle Malone and her husband Clem of Pembroke Pines, Fla., Gisele Martin of Davie, Fla., Omar Miranda of Dorado, Puerto Rico, Denise Simo and her husband Eduardo of Dorado, Puerto Rico, Jose Manuel Miranda of Miami, Fla., Rafael A. Miranda and his wife Rita, Jaime R. Miranda and wife Doris, Jorge R. Miranda and his wife Thelma , and Jose R. Miranda , all of Puerto Rico; and great-grandchildren: John Michael Merced, Melisa and Crystal Malone, Michael Clue, Eduardo A. Simo, Gretchen and Griselle Miranda, Gabriel and Jorge Miranda, and Jan and Angelo Miranda. Maria loved life and will always be missed by us, her family and all that knew her. We will be grateful for the time she shared with us and the life that she so strongly embraced and for being always there for us. She will always be loved, always. Memorial services will be held at 3:30 p.m., Thursday, Feb. 17 at Kent-Forest Lawn Funeral Home Chapel with Father George Zieba officiating. Funeral services for Wilma Lavinia Rodgers Evans, 81, formerly of Panama City, who died Saturday, Feb. 12, 2000, in a Virginia Beach, Va. hospital will be held Wednesday at 10 a.m. in Wilson Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Jerry Moore officiating. ESTELL STRICKLAND FLEMING
Mrs. Estell Strickland Fleming, 62, of 8833 John Pitts Road, Panama City, Fla., died Monday, Feb. 14, 2000, at her home. Born in Cottondale, Fla., she moved here in 1996 from Pensacola. She was a housewife and a driver of a van for the disabled in Pensacola for Community Transportation. She was also Baptist by faith. Mrs. Fleming is preceded in death by her husband, Lewis John Fleming Jr. She is survived by two sons, John Fleming III and Michael Fleming both of Pensacola; one daughter, Denise Fleming of Pensacola; one brother, David Strickland and wife Loraine of Panama City; three sisters: Tina Blackman of Panama City, Mary Massey and husband W. T. Massey of Fort Worth, Texas and Lilly Strickland of Pensacola; two granddaughters, Lori Fleming of Panama City and Michelle Fleming of South Dakota; a very special friend, Ervin Bland of Panama City. Graveside funeral services will be conducted today, Feb. 16 at 2 p.m. in Callaway Cemetery with the Rev. Larry DeMoss officiating.

THOMAS OLIVER GARRETT JR.
Thomas Oliver Garrett Jr., 77, of Lynn Haven, Fla., died Sunday, Feb. 13, 2000, in a Columbus, Ga., hospital. He had been a resident of Bay County since 1933 moving here from DeFuniak Springs, Fla. He was a graduate of Bay High School. He served in the U.S. Army Air Corp. during World War II. He was deacon of First Baptist Church of Lynn Haven. He was a member of the Harry Jackson Masonic Lodge. Mr. Garrett was the son of T.O. and Alta Garrett, Sr. He is survived by his wife, Lillian Garrett of Lynn Haven, Fla.; son, Charles Roger Garrett and his wife, Pat; daughter, Lecile Oliver and her husband, Robert; two grandchildren, Patrick Garrett, Shannon Garrett; brother, Donald N. Garrett of Panama City, Fla.; two sisters, Marguerite Cartwright of Tampa, Fla., Glenna Ward of Lynn Haven, Fla. and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held today at 2 p.m. in First Baptist Church of Lynn Haven with the Rev. Burney Enzor and the Rev. Dennis Pledger officiating. Interment will follow in Lynn Haven Cemetery. Active pallbearers are: Luther McDonald, Herschel Holcombe, Norman Amoss, Lee Newton, Gene Earnest, Gene Kyser and Tom Gildersleeve. Honorary pallbearers are: the Deacons of First Baptist Church of Lynn Haven, Jim Harmon, Jerry Farrell, Gib Kelley, Adult Six Sunday School Department, First Baptist Church, Lynn Haven and the Coffee Club.
