The funeral for Joseph P. Jones will be held today, Friday, Jan. 30, at 2 p.m. at Alford Baptist Church. Burial will be in Alford Cemetery with James and Sikes Funeral Home Maddox Chapel directing.

Lillian Lavert McKeown Miller, 81, of Sneads, died Thursday, Jan. 29, 2004, in Tallahassee. She was a native and lifelong resident of Sneads. She was a retired elementary school teacher at Sneads Elementary, where she taught first grade and the Jackson County Gifted Program. She was a long-time member of Providence Baptist Church and a beloved wife, mother, sister, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was preceded in death by a beloved sister, Edith M. Stephens. She is survived by: her husband, William L. Miller of Sneads; two daughters, Carol Lang of Tallahassee and Jennifer M. Traugoutt of Sneads; one sister, Frances M. Upshaw of Lafayette, Ind.; six grandchildren; six great grandchildren; four nieces, Linda, Kathleen, Melinda and Jocelyn; and one nephew, Jack. The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. CST today, Sunday, Feb. 1, at Providence Baptist Church in Grand Ridge. Burial will be at Pope Cemetery in Sneads. The family received friends from 2 until 4 p.m. CST Saturday, Jan. 31, at Lanier-Andler Funeral Home Chapel. Memorial contributions may be made to Sneads Elementary School, Sneads, Fla. 32460 in Mrs. Millerís honor.

Harold L. Kent, 76, of Alford, died Thursday, Jan. 29, 2004, at his residence. A native of Chipley, he had lived in Alford for more than 26 years. He served in the U.S. Merchant Marines and worked at Sunland for a number of years. He is survived by: two daughters, Angel Hobbs of Jacksonville and Joyce LeGare of Palm Harbour; one sister, Jenny Barrett of Sebring; and three grandchildren. A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. CST today, Sunday, Feb. 1, at James & Sikes Funeral Home, Maddox Chapel, with the Rev. Carlton Baggett officiating and Maddox Chapel directing. Memorialization will be by cremation.

Lora Ann Picarelli, 33, of Grand Ridge died Saturday, Jan. 31, 2004, at Shands Medical Center in Gainesville. Funeral arrangements will be announced by Marianna Chapel Funeral Home.

Infant Zoe Grace Spooner died Saturday, Feb. 14, 2004, in Jackson Hospital.

The funeral will be held today, Wednesday, Feb. 18, at 10 a.m. in the Evangel Worship Center with Pastor LaVon Pettis officiating. Burial will be in Sims Cemetery.

Marianna Chapel Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Elzie Bruce Conrad, 76, of Marianna died Monday, February 16, 2004, at his residence surrounded by his loved ones.

He was a retired salesman and co-owner of Conrad Rentals. He was born in Auburndale and moved to Marianna at age two. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church, a U.S. Navy veteran, a Mason and Sky Warn. He attended F.S.U. the first year it became coed. He also attended Chipola. He was an avid F.S.U. football fan and loved his cats. He was always ready to lend a helping hand to anyone and never passed by a lady on the road with a flat tire.

He was preceded in death by: his parents, Elzie and Audrie Hatcher Conrad; a daughter, Elizabeth Bowles Conrad; and a sister, Helen Conrad.

He is survived by: his wife, Beverly Bowles Conrad; one son, Anthony Bruce Conrad of Cairo, Egypt; two daughters, Karon Conrad and Blynn Young of Panama City; two grandsons, Raymond Conrad Young of Panama City and Casey Conrad of Columbus, Ga.; one great-granddaughter, Emily Conrad of Columbus, Ga.; one brother, Wayne Conrad of Dothan, Ala.; and two sisters, Jewel Cook of Marianna and Sarah Gurley of Tampa.

The funeral will be held Thursday, Feb. 19, at 2 p.m. CST at Maddox Chapel with the Rev. Fred Zeigler officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery with James and Sikes Funeral Home Maddox Chapel of Marianna directing. No visitation is planned.

In lieu of flowers, donations to Emerald Coast Hospice would be greatly appreciated.

John "Donnie" W. Chance, 62, of Tallahassee died Tuesday, Feb. 17, 2004, in Tallahassee.

He was a native of Hiltonia, Ga. and had lived in Sneads until he joined the Air Force. He was of the Baptist faith and was a U.S. Air Force veteran during the Vietnam Conflict. He had lived in Tallahassee since 1990.

He is survived by: Two daughters, Lynda McCarl of Tallahassee and Lisa F. Davis of California; two sons, Patrick Chance of Gulf Port, Miss. and Steve Chance of Tallahassee; four sisters, Jeanette Calhoun, Annette Smith, Elizabeth Taylor, and Carol Birdwell; a very special brother-in-law, Wayne Taylor; and eight grandchildren.

The funeral will be held Friday, Feb. 20, at 1 p.m. EST at Lanier-Andler Funeral Home Chapel in Sneads. Burial will be at Pope Cemetery in Sneads.

The family will receive friends from 6 until 9 p.m. EST today, Thursday, Feb. 19, at the funeral home.

Graveside military honors will be held following the service.

Blanch H. Shouppe, 86, of Cottondale died Wednesday, Feb. 18, 2004, in Jackson Hospital.

She was a lifelong resident of this area and was a member of the Assembly of God. She loved to cook and was a great mother. She taught her children to respect and to be hospitable to others.

She was preceded in death by: her husband, A.O. Wise; a daughter, Myrtle Wise; one sister; and four brothers.

She is survived by: two sons, Butch Wise and wife Betty of Cottondale, and Tommy Wise and wife Lois of Tampa; four daughters, Edna Wise of Vernon, Betty Phillmon of Jacksonville, Joyce Kent and husband Charlie of Cottondale, and Faye and husband James Peel of Chipley; four sisters, Dorothy McSwiney of Panama City, Doris Adams of Panama City, Nell Williams and husband Wilsie of Panama City, Judy Wiley and husband Perry of Flag Staff, Ariz.; 22 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be held Friday, Feb. 20, at 10 a.m. in the Marianna Chapel Funeral Home with Pastor Jackie Register officiating. Burial will be in the First United Methodist Church Cemetery in Cottondale. The family will receive friends this evening, Feb. 19, from 6 until 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Minister Jerome Vincent Nicholson, 41, of Greenwood died Saturday, Feb. 14, 2004, in Tallahassee.

He is survived by: his wife, Gwendolyn G. Nicholson of Greenwood; his father, Wisdom G. Nicholson Sr. of Tallahassee; two stepsons, Raymond C. Smith Jr. of Greenwood and Eric T. Smith of Marianna; one step-daughter, Christian Z. Smith of Greenwood; seven grandchildren; six brothers, Wisdom Nicholson Jr., Gerald Nicholson, Abraham Nicholson, Ray Nicholson, all of Tallahassee, Ronald Nicholson of Miami, and Nathaniel Nicholson of Tallahassee; and six sisters, Glorion Gantt, Alice Robinson, Faye Lamb, Cassandra Lofton, Rochelle Franklin, all of Tallahassee, and Ernestine McKay of Marianna.

The funeral will be held Saturday, Feb. 21, at 1 p.m. at the Second West Baptist Church with the Rev. N. Robinson and Bishop Bobby Graham officiating. Burial will be in the Orange Hill Cemetery.

The body will lie at the church one hour prior to the funeral.

Vann Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

The funeral will be held today, Thursday, Feb. 19, at 2 p.m. CST at Maddox Chapel. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery with James and Sikes Funeral Home Maddox Chapel directing.

Chellie Eugenia Drown, 70, of Marianna died Thursday morning, Feb. 19, 2004, at Jackson Hospital following an extended illness.

She was a housewife, a loving mother and grandmother, was of the Pentecostal faith, and was a member of the Battlecry Ministries International. She was a retired LPN working at the health department and the nursing home in Bristol.

She was preceded in death by one son, David Wayne Drown.

She is survived by: her loving husband of 52 years, Robert Willis Drown of Marianna; one son, Robert Willis Drown Jr. and wife Linda of New Jersey; five daughters, Rev. Glory J. Davis of Tulsa, Okla., Donna M. Rygiel and husband Steven of Rochester, N.H., Bridget O. Wallace-Cox and husband Alan of Ocean Springs, Miss., Debra Ann Spurlock and husband Eddie of Marianna, and Lisa S. Neff of Marianna; two brothers, C. Edwin O'Neal and wife Margaret of Marianna, and George A. O'Neal and wife Linda of Bryant, Ark.; one sister, Joyce A. Shoupe and husband Sanders of Deatsville, Ala.; 25 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be held Saturday, Feb. 21, at 2 p.m. at Lord Funeral Home with Pastor Jeff Ward officiating. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home today, Friday, Feb. 20, from 6 until 8 p.m.

A reception to celebrate Mrs. Drown's homegoing will be hosted at New Life Family Church, 4028 West Lafayette Street (next door to JCSO), immediately following the services.

Charles H. Pooser, 77, of Marianna, died Friday, Feb. 20, 2004, at his residence.

He was a native of Marianna, where he lived most of his life. He retired from the Jackson County School Board after 25 years of service as maintenance director.

He was preceded in death by a daughter, Linda Pooser Griffith; two sisters, Martha P. Sims, Willie Maude Reeves; and two brothers, John W. Pooser and James E. Pooser.

Survivors include his wife, Betty Pooser; three sons, Charles E. (Bud) Pooser of Marianna, Scott Pooser of Grand Ridge, and Bruce Harrison of Marianna; two daughters, Patricia Rhyne of Melrose, Susan Dunaway of Greenwood; two brothers, Lucius (Cap) Pooser and W.L. Pooser, both of Marianna; four sisters, Frances Ratzlaff of Marianna, Sally Elizabeth New of Orlando, Kathryn Lucille Ross and Annie Laura Scott, both of Houston, Texas; eight grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

The funeral will be held today, Sunday, Feb. 22, at 2 p.m. at Maddox Chapel with the Rev. Ronnie Wright officiating. Memorialization will be by cremation, with James and Sikes Funeral Home Maddox Chapel of Marianna directing. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Covenant Hospice, 4349 Lafayette St., Bldg 2, Marianna, Fla. 32446, or to a charity of choice.

Virginia Arnold, 48, of Bonifay, died Friday, Feb. 20, 2004, at Doctor's Memorial Hospital in Bonifay. She was a homemaker and a Baptist by faith. She moved to Bonifay from Coffee Springs, Ala.

She is survived by her stepmother, Ethel Gress of Tampa; one son, Daniel Arnold of Bonifay; four daughters, Connie Hendrix and husband Wayne of Bonifay, Debbie McClain and husband David of Chipley, Michelle Smith of Bonifay, Brenda Arnold of Bonifay; three sisters, Patty Bowling of Tampa, Carol Durden and husband Corkie of Mt. Dora, Terri Kirkpatrick and husband Chuck of Monticello; 14 grandchildren; two aunts, Brenda Gress and Elvie Catalano, both of Tampa; and extended family members Markie Johnson and Ann and Bobby Leager, all of Geneva.

She was preceded in death by her husband, James D. Arnold Jr.; her father, Nevin Gress, and her mother, Jean Gress.

The funeral will be held Monday, Feb. 23, 2004, at 2 p.m. at Lord Funeral Home, with the Rev. Henry McClain officiating. Memorialization will be by cremation. Visitation will be at Lord Funeral Home today, Sunday, Feb. 22, from 4 to6 p.m.

Roy Burl Tyre, 78, of Sneads, died Feb. 21, 2004, in Marianna.

He was a retired farm instructor with Apalachee Correctional Institution in Sneads. He was a native of Cypress and was a member of the Shady Grove United Methodist Church; a member of Gee Lodge No. 21 in Chattahoochee; a member of York Rite Bodies in Marianna; and a member of Shaddai Shrine in Panama City. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II.

He is survived by one daughter, Isa McClellan and husband Hammon of Sneads; one son, Randall B. Tyre of Sneads; two grandchildren, Elizabeth C. Edenfield and John Randall Edenfield, both of Sneads; two great-grandchildren, Tristan Edenfield and Dena Suzanne Edenfield of Sneads; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Pauline K. Tyre.

The funeral will be held at 11 a.m. on Monday, Feb. 23, at Shady Grove United Methodist Church in the Shady Grove community with burial to follow in Shady Grove Cemetery. military honors and Masonic rites will be held graveside.

Visitation will be from 4 to 6 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 22, at Lanier Andler Funeral Home Chapel in Sneads.

Memorial contributions may be made to Covenant Hospice, 4349 Lafayette St., Bldg 2, Marianna, Fla. 32446, or to Shaddai Temple, AAONMS P.O. Box 16115, Panama City Fla. 32406.

Philip Henry Gordon Brimer, 79, of Stuart, died Tuesday, Feb. 17, 2004, at Martin Memorial Hospital in Stuart.

He was born in Portsmouth, England, and had been a resident of Stuart for the past 15 years. He served in the British Royal Navy during World War II. He retired as a general contractor in Marianna, where he resided for 27 years.

Survivors include his loving wife of 55 years, Bettie M. Brimer of Stuart; ;two sons, Philip Brimer and his wife Tammy, and David Brimer; five grandchildren and one great-grandson.

Those who wish to make an expresssion of sympathy are asked to consider contributions to Florida Sheriffs Youth Ranches or a charity of choice.

Arrangements are under the direction of Young and Prill Funeral Home of Stuart.
