Willie Pear Smith, 85, of Quincy, Fla., died Friday, April 7, 2000 in Panama City. She was a native of Alabama and then moved to Quincy in 1954. She retired as an operator for the Quincy Telephone Co. and was a member of the Washington Street Church of Christ in Quincy. She is survived by a son, Charles E. Smith of Quincy; two daughters, Maedelle S. Eubanks of Panama City and Thelma S. Buckley of Quincy; 10 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Graveside funeral services was held Sunday April 9 at Hillcrest Cemetery in Quincy.

JENNIE MAE BALKCOM
Mrs. Jennie Mae Balkcom, 89, of Graceville, died Sunday, April 9, 2000, at Campbellton-Graceville Hospital following an extended illness. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., today, April 11 at Salem United Methodist Church with the Rev. Henry Moore officiating. Burial will follow in church cemetery with James and Lipford Funeral Home of Graceville directing. Family received friends at the funeral home Monday from 6 to 8 p.m. Mrs. Balkcom was born in Jackson County, Fla., Salem community on Nov. 20, 1910 to the late John W. and Laura C. Ricks Watford. She was a retired nurse's aide with Campbellton-Graceville Hospital and a member of Salem United Methodist Church. She is survived by three sons and two daughters-in-law: Sonny and Lenora Balkcom of Chipley, Joe and Mary Balkcom of Tallahassee, John Pat Balkcom of Panama City and seven grandchildren.

WENDALL 'ALLAN' BARFIELD
Mr. Wendall "Allan" Barfield, 36, of 14233 Mastro Lane in Southport, died Friday, April 7, 2000, at his sister's home in Southport. He was a lifelong resident of Panama City and was a truss-maker for Fagans Truss Co. for six years before his retirement due to an accident. He was also a member of Sand Hills Community Church. Mr. Barfield is survived by wife Marie "Toni" Barfield of Sand Hills, Fla.; parents, Mr. and Mrs. Wendall Woodrow Barfield of East Point, Fla.; son, Christopher "Chris" Kirton of Sand Hills; daughter, LeAnn Kirton of Sand Hills; grandparents, John and Juanita Newell of Eastpoint; beloved mother and father-in-law, Doris Mastro and the late Joe Mastro Sr. of Southport; one brother, Michael Barfield and sons, Shawn and Phillip; two sisters, Darlene Shivers and husband Bob and daughter, Meagan, Anna Waltman and husband Jason and son Brandon; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law: Joe Jr. and Debbie Mastro and children: Joey, Patrick, Ashley and Megan; Brett and Suzi Schomer and children Jeff and Justin; Victor and Louise Mastro and children Joseph and Kristina, Doug and Shawn Helms and children: Crystal, Lillian, Drew, and Anna; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted today, April 11, at 1 p.m. in Southerland Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Donald W. Moon, the Rev. Nixon Miller and the Rev. Chris Kirton officiating. Internment will follow in Old Southport Cemetery. The following gentlemen have been asked to serve as active pallbearers: Joe Mastro Jr., Victor Mastro, Brett Schomer, Doug Helms, Jason Waltman, Bob Shiver, Michael Barfield and Jeff Taunton. Also asked to serve as honorary pallbearers are: Joseph Mastro, Terry Kirkland, Stacy Pippin, Billy Pippin, Tracey Kirkland, James Taylor, Drew Helms and Justin Taunton. The family will receive friends at the funeral home this evening from 6 to 8 p.m.

Edith L. Bartlow, 82, of 5580 Brown St. in Graceville, Fla., died Monday, April 10, at Campbellton-Graceville Hospital following an extended illness. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, April 12, at First Baptist Church of Graceville with the Rev. Ken Harrison and Dr. Jerry Windsor officiating. Burial will follow in Salem United Methodist Church Cemetery in Graceville with Byrd-Williams Funeral Home directing. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 6 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday. Mrs. Bartlow was born July 1, 1917, in Bonne Terre, Miss. And lived there until she graduated from junior college. She moved to St. Louis, Mo., where she attended Business School and was employed with Purina Hills. In 1944, at the request of her brother, she returned to Bonne Terre to be close to her parents. There she met her husband of 55 years, John Lynn Bartlow. She was a very devoted wife, mother and homemaker. Mrs. Bartlow was a past member of the Graceville Garden Club and Woman's Club and a faithful member of the First Baptist Church where she taught her Sunday school class for 40 years. Survivors include her husband John Lynn Bartlow of Graceville; a son and daughter-in-law, Robert L. Bartlow and wife Bonnie of Oklahoma City, Okla.; two daughters and sons-in-law, Lois B. Richardson and her husband Bill of Panama City, and Carolyn B. Adams and her husband Melvin of Graceville; seven grandchildren: Rob and Eric Bartlow, Brad and Cara Richardson, Rod and Jason Adams, and Mandy Adams Williams; a sister, Mildred Porter of Pitcarin, Pa.; and several nieces and nephews. Serving as active pallbearers will be Bob Bartlow, Rod Adams, Brad Richardson, Eric Bartlow, Jason Adams, Clint Williams and Jeremy Horton. Flowers are being accepted or memorials may be made to Hospice of Northwest Florida, 2917 Optimist Drive, Marianna, Florida.

JAMES ALFORD BRANNON
James Alford Brannon, 92, of 22 Bollen Court in Rome, died Tuesday afternoon in a Rome hospital following an extended illness. He was born Nov. 29, 1907, in Walton County, Fla., son of the late James Calvin Brannon and Della Brannon. He had spent the greater part of his life in Florida before moving to Rome in 1993. Prior to retirement, he was employed for 22 years at the International Paper Company in Panama City. He was a member of Armuchee Church of God. Surviving is his wife, Clara Digsby Brannon of Rome to whom he was married Aug. 13, 1972; four sons: Don Brannon of Homasassa, Fla., Royce Brannon and Jackie Brannon of Panama City, Billy Joe Brannon of St. Petersburg; two stepsons, Jerry Potts and Larry Potts both of Rome; one daughter, Glenda King of Panama City; one stepdaughter, Jean Nafus of Mableton, Ga.; two sisters, Arais Norris of Naples andLois Lingerfelt of Jacksonville; 15 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren also survive. Funeral services were held Friday, April 7, 2000, from the chapel of Commander Funeral Home in DeFuniak Springs with the Rev. Charles Izell and the Rev. Vernon Williamson officiating. Interment was held in Euchee Valley Presbyterian Church Cemetery.

EDMUND EUBANKS SR.
Mr. Edmund Eubanks Sr., age 80, of 2018 County Road 2297, Panama City, Fla., passed away Saturday, April 8, 2000, at a local nursing facility. Mr. Eubanks was born on April 12, 1919. He is from a southern family, established in Georgia, Florida and Alabama in banking, engineering, and other professions. His grandfather was wounded at Gettysburg, fighting for the southern cause. He moved to Tallahassee and graduated from Leon High School. He enlisted in the Marine Corps in Tampa, Fla., on Sept. 12, 1940. After basic training at Parris Island, he was assigned to the First Marine Division as an engineer. In 1942, he was in the first wave of Marines landing on Guadalcanal in the Solomon Island. His unit's mission was to construct Henderson Field for Marine Aviation. While on Guadalcanal, he fought some of the most desperate and intense engagements. He was awarded the Bronze Star and was recommended for the Medal of Honor for his heroic actions during the Battle of Bloody Ridge Sept. 10-13, 1942. He also participated in numerous other actions in the Pacific and eventually returned to the U.S. in 1946. Mr. Eubanks settled in Tampa where he owned and operated Peters/Jet Distributing Co. Mr. Eubanks was also active in local and state politics. He retired from business in 1984, but remained active in politics working with Congressman Sam Gibbons, 6th District of Florida and the local Board of Elections. He moved with his wife Esther, to Panama City in 1997 and lived with his son and family in Sandy Creek. He passed away quietly the morning of April 8, 2000 and is now with his beloved Esther who passed away Feb. 25, 1998. He will be dearly missed by his family and many friends. He was a member of St. Dominic's Catholic Church and American Legion of Tampa. Mr. Eubanks is survived by his son, Edmund Eubanks Jr. and his wife Wilima of Panama City; three grandchildren: Edmund Jay Eubanks and Nicholas Aaron Eubanks, both of Panama City Beach, and Brittany Shae of Panama City; and numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Wednesday, April 12, 2000, at Kent-Forest Lawn Funeral Home Chapel with Msgr. William Crowe officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home, today, April 11, from 6 to 8 p.m.

FRANK WILSON
Mr. Frank Wilson, age 74, of 706 W. 8th St. Circle, Lynn Haven, Fla., died Saturday, April 8, 2000, at a local hospital. He had been a resident of the area since 1987, coming here from Mahwah, N.J., where he lived for six years. Mr. Wilson served his country with the U.S. Navy during World War II on a LST No. 528 and was a Boatswain's Mate 2nd Class. He was a member of Holy Nativity Episcopal Church and a life member of the American Legion Fromm-Maxwell-DeBaun Post No. 859 of Suffern, N.Y. Mr. Wilson served on the Suffern, N.Y., police force as a sergeant. He loved to salt- and fresh-water fish and hunt. He enjoyed woodworking and stain glass, loving things he could do with his hands, and playing the harmonica. Mr. Wilson was a ceramic flooring and counter-top contractor. He is survived by his wife, Priscilla R. Wilson of Lynn Haven; two sons, Jeffrey Paul Wilson and Patrick F. Wilson, both of Lynn Haven; six children from a previous marriage: Frank, Christine, Lawrence, Glen, William, and John; mother and father-in-law, Henry J. and Ruth C. Scully of Panama City Beach; three brothers-in-law: Robert Scully of Atlanta, Henry J. Scully Jr. of Milton, N.J., and Chuck Scully of West Friendship, Md., and their families; numerous grandchildren; numerous cousins; two nieces, Jennifer T. Scully and Eleanore T. Scully; and one nephew, James C. Scully Jr. Mr. Wilson was preceded in death by his parents, Frank R. Wilson Sr. and Mae Yeomans Wilson. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Wednesday, April 12, at Kent-Forest Lawn Funeral Home Chapel with Fr. Donald MacLeod officiating. Interment will follow at Evergreen Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the funeral home, today, April 11from 6 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Red Cross, 430 E. 15th St., Panama City, FL 32405, in memory of Frank R. JAMES ELBERT LINTON
Mr. James Elbert Linton, age 78, of 6711 Lethohatchee St., Callaway, Fla., passed away Saturday, April 8, 2000, at his home. He had been a resident of Bay County for 48 years coming here from Marianna, Fla. Mr. Linton was of the Prostestant Faith, served his country during World War II in the U.S. Army, member of the Callaway Masonic Lodge No. 369 and was a 32nd Degree Mason, and a member of the Scottish Rite. Mr. Linton is survived by his wife, Mrs. Lillian Frances Peacock Linton of Callaway.; two daughters, Mrs. Ida Pennington and husband Gordon of Deer Point Lake., and Mrs. Phoebe Brown and husband Dallas of Abberville, Ala..; three sons: Mr. Steve Williams and wife Barbara of Sunnyhills, Mr. Jim Linton of Callaway, and Mr. Frank Linton and wife Sharon of East Callaway Heights.; 13 grandchildren: Bradley William, Kim Greene, Lisa Matthews, Steven Williams, Scott Pennington, Jaclyn Pennington, Leslie Barnes, Mary Koch, Jesse Linton, Fate Brown, Audria Brown, Jamie Linton, and Logan Linton, and eight great-grandchildren; two brothers, Mr. Robert Linton and Mr. J. Boy Linton both of Marianna.; two sisters, Mrs. Ethel Lewis of Middleburg, Fla.., and Mrs. Lois Harper of Callaway. Funeral services will be held 2:30 p.m. today, April 11, at Kent-Forest Lawn Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Kenneth Arnold officiating. Interment will follow at Evergreen Memorial Gardens Cemetery. MARION S. COOKIE POMEROY
Mr. Marion S. Cookie Pomeroy, age 77, of 1407 Calhoun Ave., Panama City, Fla., passed away Sunday, April 9, 2000, at his home. He had been a resident of Bay County for 55 years. Mr. Pomeroy served his country in the U.S. Navy, and retired as a civil servant for the Navy lab, was a Pearl Harbor survivor, member of Pearl Harbor Survivors Association, member of Hatten Ridge Hunting Club, and was a member of St. Andrew Baptist Chruch. Mr. Pomeroy is survived by his wife, Mrs. Gwendolyn Pomeroy of Panama City.; two daughters, Linda Curenton and husband Dwight and Jessica Barron and husband Herb all of Panama City; a Son, William "Butch" Pomeroy of Panama City.; seven grandchildren: Matt Curenton and wife Connie, Kevin Barron and Kendall Barron, Meaghan Pomeroy, Caleb Pomeroy, Joshua Pomeroy, and Cessalei Hall; a sister, Ella Rae Poehls of Houston, Texas., and numerous neices and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., today, April 11, at Kent-Forest Lawn Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Hayes Davis and the Rev. Ron Gallagher officiating. Interment will follow at the Evergreen Memorial Gardens Cemetery. Asked to serve as active pallbearers are: Johnnie Harris, Michael Harris, Keith Haynes, Howard Fiser, Mike Boyette and Jamie Fiser. Honorary will be the Pearl Harbor survivors and their wives.

MICHAEL ANDREW QUATTLEBAUM
Mr. Michael Andrew Quattlebaum, 17, of Tallahassee, Fla., died April 10, 2000, in Tallahassee. Michael was due to graduate from high school in Tallahassee and he had been accepted into the U.S. Marine Corps which had been a longtime goal of Michael's. Michael's family rejoices in the fact that he recently accepted Jesus Christ as his savior. Michael was the beloved son of Gene Quattlebaum and Elizabeth McAuley of Tallahassee; brothers, Donnie Quattlebaum and Ken Brannon both of Panama City; sisters, Kathleen Johnson and Christen Quattlebaum both of Panama City; maternal grandparents, Thomas McAuley of Valley, Ala. and Martha McAuley of Panama City. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, April 12, at 3 p.m. in Southerland Funeral Home Chapel.
