EVELYN SEWELL PETTIS
Mrs. Evelyn Sewell Pettis, 311 Maine Ave., Panama City, Fla., devoted wife and loving mother, went to be with the Lord on Monday, April 17, 2000. She loved flowers, working in the yard and fishing with her husband. Mrs. Pettis loved cooking and vacationing with her family. She also loved being with her family and friends. Her favorite color was pink. Mrs. Pettis loved going to church, her pastor and was a Prayer Warrior. She was a member of Springfield Community Church. She took great pride in herself. Mrs. Pettis celebrated her birthday and her anniversary on the day that her husband was hired at the paper mill, July 9, 1946. She was also able to celebrate her husband's birthday before she passed away. She is survived by her husband of 58 years, Sam Pettis of Panama City; a son, Wayne Pettis and his wife Angie of Panama City; two daughters, Linda Hoskins and her husband Ervin and Carolyn Lord and her husband Bill, all of Panama City; seven grandchildren: David Pettis, Wayne Pettis, Michael Jennings, Michelle Hoskins, Verlean Anglin, Pam Grisset and Renee Mears; seven great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; and a sister, Irene Coates. She was preceded in death by her parents, M.K. Sewell and Cora Sewell; a brother, Roy Sewell; and a sister, Lorene Coon. Funeral services will be held on Easter Sunday, April 23, at Springfield Community Church with the Rev. J.W. Hunt and Bro. Warren Wright officiating. Interment will follow at Evergreen Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends at the Kent-Forest Lawn Funeral Home, Saturday, April 22, from 3 to 5 p.m.

WILLIAM WALTER CAMBLEY SR.
William Walter Cambley Sr., 58, of Panama City, Fla., died Tuesday, April 18, 2000, in a local hospital. He had been a lifelong resident of Bay County. He was a body shop technician for Tommy Thomas Chevrolet. He is survived by his wife, Jackie Cambley; son, William W. Cambley Jr. and his fiancee, Amanda; and grandson, William W. Cambley III, all of Panama City. Graveside services will be held Friday at 10 a.m. in Evergreen Memorial Gardens with K.J. Starzinger and Dennis Dilley officiating. The family will receive friends at the funeral home today from 6 to 8 p.m. Those desiring to may make a contribution to the Bayou George Christian Church, 7814 Hwy 2301, Panama City, FL 32404 in memory of William Cambley Sr.

MARCUS DEXTER JONES
Marcus Dexter Jones, age 72, a resident of Auburndale, Fla., passed away Tuesday, April 18, 2000 in a Winter Haven, Fla. hospital. He was a native and former resident of Paxton, Fla., the son of the late Marcus Holley Jones and Marie McNeill Jones. His wife, Mary Emily Jones, passed away in 1997. A former resident of Newport News, Va., Panama City, Fayetteville, N.C.; he and his late wife had moved to Auburndale, Fla. in 1989. He retired from Civil Service having worked as a mechanical superintendent. He served in the South Pacific during World War II with the U.S. Navy in the Sea Bees which was the Contruction Battalion operating under enemy fire to construct military sites and bridges. Survivors are his son, Rodney Jones of Auburndale; two daughters, Debbie Turner and husband Rick of Orlando, Annette Jones of Fayetteville, N.C.; five grandchildren, two great-grandchildren; brother, Michael DeWayne Jones of Paxton and sisters, Betty Moran of Mossyhead, Fla. and Marie Aaron of Fort Walton Beach; cousin, Harold McNeill of Florala and uncle, Claude Jones. Funeral services will be 3 p.m. Friday, April 22, from graveside in Paxton Cemetery, Paxton, Fla., with Frank McIntosh officiating.

EFFIE HAZEL KING
Effie Hazel King, 92, of Panama City, Fla., died Tuesday, April 18, 2000, in a local nursing home. She had been a longtime resident of Tri-Cities, Wash., before moving to Bay County in 1986. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Louise Bishop; son, Harold Douglas King, and husband, Lawrence King. She is survived by a daughter, Sandra Robinson and her husband, Mark of Panama City; two sons, James L. King and his wife, Elva Mae of Mansfield, Mo., Gordon K. King of Tallahassee; eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Graveside funeral services will be held Saturday at 1 p.m in Desert Lawn Memorial Park Cemetery, Kennewick, Wash. The family will receive friends at Mueller's Chapel of the Falls, 314 W. 1st Ave., Kennewick, Wash., on Friday from 3 to 5 p.m. Those desiring to may make a contribution to the American Cancer Society in memory of Effie King.

DON DAVID LONG
Mr. Don (Donnie) David Long, 57, of Tallahassee, Fla., died Friday, April 14, 2000, at Shands Hospital, in Gainesville, Fla. He was born Jan. 8, 1943, in Twilight, Okla., to David D. and Jackie Louise Long of Panama City. Don grew up and went to school in Panama City, graduating in the class of 1961 from Bay High School. He is preceded in death by his father, Mr. David D. Long and survived by his son, Don David Long Jr. and wife Maria; two stepgrandchildren and his first grandchild soon to be born, of Sebring, Fla.; his mother, Jackie Louise Long, Cove Manor Retirement Home, Panama City; his brother, Ronnie Long of Pensacola; his sister, Mrs. Connie Ryerkerk and husband Steve of Lynn Haven, and several nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at St. Marks Lighthouse, in St. Marks, Fla., on April 22 at 2 p.m. (EDT).

JAMES D. 'RED' ROBERTS
Mr. James D. "Red" Roberts, age 78, of 8822 Jeffery Road, Southport, Fla., died Wednesday, April 19, 2000, at a local hospital. He has been a resident of the area since 1979, coming here from Natchez, Miss., after his retirement from International Paper Co. He was born and raised in Altha, Fla., and served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was a member of Kingswood Baptist Church in Southport. He was a member of the V.F.W., W.O.W., and the Moose Lodge, all in Natchez. Mr. Roberts enjoyed fishing and traveling and was a member of Winnebago International Travelers Club. He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Mary Lou Roberts of Southport; a sister, Edna Hales of Panama City; a daughter, Elizabeth Robson of McComb, Miss.; four granddaughters: Cindy Engebretsen, Lissa Graves, Laura Maender, Michelle Miller; one niece, Shirley Ramsey; seven great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Friday, April 21, at Kingswood Baptist Church in Southport with the Rev. Joel Wilson officiating. Interment will follow at Garden of Memories. Asked to serve as active pallbearers are: Eric Engebretsen, Chris Maender, Matt North Sr., Tommy Graves, Tim Miller and Dwan Ramsey. Honorary pallbearers will be the deacons of Kingswood Baptist Church and Mr. Gene Howell. The family will receive friends at the Kent-Forest Lawn Funeral Home today, April 20, from 6 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Kingswood Baptist Church Building Fund, 9206 Kingswood Road, Southport, FL 32409.

HAZEL WILLENE TAYLOR
Hazel Willene Taylor, 78, of Panama City, Fla., died April 15, 2000, in her home. She was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Franklin Taylor. She is survived by a brother and sister-in-law, Vassar Edward and Katherine Verna Lewis of Navasota, Texas; three nieces: Amy Anthony of Burnet, Texas, Merlyn Giltner of Vidor, Texas, Gail Moore of Navasota, and a nephew, Billy Taylor of Louisiana. Graveside funeral services will be held Friday at 11 a.m. in Evergreen Memorial Gardens with the Rev. Bruce Raley officiating. Those desiring to may make a contribution to the Humane Society of Bay County in memory of Hazel Taylor.

HOMER E. BURLINGAME
Homer E. Burlingame, 85, of Panama City, Fla., died Wednesday, April 19, 2000, in Glencove Nursing Pavilion. Born in Cambridge, Ohio, he moved here in 1950 from Ohio. He was a Postal Worker and was veteran of World War II serving in the U.S. Army. Mr. Burlingame is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Earl and Nancy Burlingame of Lethbridge, Alberta, Canada; one daughter and son-in-law, Phyllis and Donald Baker of Panama City; three grandchildren: John Burlingame, Ronald Baker and Thomas Baker; three great-grandchildren: Cody Baker, Tyler Baker and Jesse Baker. Graveside funeral services will be conducted on Saturday, April 22 at 10 a.m. in Greenwood Cemetery with Mr. Steve Southerland Sr. officiating. military honors will be accorded at graveside. JOYCE REDD DANIELS
Joyce Redd Daniels, 70, of Panama City, Fla., died Wednesday, April 19, 2000, in her home. She was born in Port St. Joe, Fla., and moved to Panama City at age six. She was a graduate of Bay High School Class of 1947, and retired as a deputy clerk of the Bay County Circuit Court after 26 years. A born-again Christian, she is survived by her husband of 49 years, Frank Daniels; two sons, John Daniels and his wife, Linda, Jack Daniels and his wife Vickie all of Panama City; daughter, Joy Powell and her husband, Chris of Linden, N.C.; five grandchildren: John F. Daniels Jr., James Daniels, Melisa Daniels, Michael Jefferson, all of Panama City, Amy Jefferson of Richmond, Va.; and two great-grandchildren, Forrest Daniels of Blountstown and Brandon Creel of Panama City. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, April 22, at 11 a.m., in Wilson Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Albert Rowell officiating. Interment will follow in Greenwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the funeral home today, April 21, from 5 to 7 p.m. Asked to serve as active pallbearers are: John Daniels Jr., Michael Jefferson, John Bates, Leroy Gainous, Bill Brown, and Grady Cox. Honorary pallbearers will be the Bay High School Class of 1947. Those desiring to may make a contribution to their favorite charity in memory of Joyce Daniels.
