Dalton Hagler Jr. of Blountstown died Thursday, Feb. 19, 2004.

He was born in Sneads and had lived in Blountstown since February 1967 where he owned and operated the Hagler IGA for many years. He was a respected businessman in the community and served his community faithfully through the Blountstown Rotary Club where he was a Paul Harris Fellow. He was a member of the Blountstown First Baptist Church and a veteran serving in the US Army.

He is survived by: Four sons, Ken Hagler of St. Augustine, Douglas Hagler and his wife Lucinda of Lake City, Henry Dalton Hagler III and his wife Claire of Orlando, and Derek Hagler and his wife Alex of Chugiak, Alaska; one daughter, Andrea Hash and her husband Jeff of Panama City; one brother, Robert Hagler of Malone; five grandchildren.

A celebration of life service was held at 6 p.m. Monday, Feb. 23, at First Baptist Church in Blountstown.

The funeral will be held noon, today, Tuesday at the First Baptist Church in Blountstown with reverend Tom Stallworth officiating with a scattering service held at sunset following the service on the banks of the Chipola River at his residence.

Adams Funeral Home in Blountstown is in charge of the arrangements.

Deacon M.C. Kelly, 78, of Poplar Springs community died Thursday night, Feb. 19, 2004, in Jackson Hospital in Marianna.

He was a native of Jackson County and a member of the Poplar Springs Missionary Baptist Church where he served on the deacon board.

He is survived by: One daughter, Theresa Johnson of Lakewood, N.J.; two sisters, Narvie Bartley and Flozell Gilmore, both of Marianna; five grandchildren, Lachonda Merritt of Marianna, Douglass Kelly of Tuscaloosa, Ala., Cassandra Kelly, Wendy Kelly and Shevonne Kelly, all of Lakewood, N.J.; and six great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be held Wednesday, Feb. 25, at noon at the Poplar Springs Missionary Baptist Church with the Revs. Freddie Roulhac, William Harvey, J.H. Bowers, and Wallace Godwin officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery with Peoples Funeral Home of Marianna directing.

The body will lie at the church one hour prior to the funeral.

Lemul Augustus Douglas, 67, of Alford, died Sunday morning Feb. 22, 2004, at the Jackson Hospital following a sudden illness.

He was born in Damascus, Georgia, was a member of the Baptist faith and spent 14 years in the United States Army. He was presently employed by Westpoint Stevens in Chipley.

He is survived by his wife, Nualjun Douglas of Alford; three sons, Wayne Douglas and his wife, Angie, of San Diego, Calif., William Fletcher and his wife, Talitha Douglas, of Cypress, and Luan and his wife, Dawn Nguyen, of Tallahassee; one sister, Mildred McCall and her husband, Jim, of Mobile, Ala., ; and one granddaughter, Madison Douglas.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, Feb. 25, at 2 p.m. at Manry-Jordan-Hodges Funeral Home in Blakley, Ga. with a military chaplain officiating. Interment will follow at Crossroads Cemetery in Damascus, Ga.

Lord Funeral Homes is in charge of local arrangements.

Charles Edward Ellis, 60, of Malone died Tuesday, Feb. 24, 2004, at the Medical Center in Dothan, Ala.

He was a native of Jackson County. He served one term in the U.S. Air Force. He traveled throughout the U.S. pursuing his career as a union electrician. His career carried him to California where he was an active member of the South Bay Cruising 50's Car Club where he left behind many friends. In recent years he remained active raising his daughter and two grandchildren on the family farm. He was a member of Friendship Baptist Church in Malone, Masonic Elsimore of California, and the Moose Lodge of Marianna.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Charlie and Edna Baxter Ellis.

He is survived by: his wife of 13 years, Debra Ellis; four daughters, Becky Ellis of Malone, Amie Griffin and her husband, Paul, Carla Long and her husband, Eric, all of Melbourne, and Jennifer Fast of Gainesville; three sons, Hugh Ellis and his wife, Angela, and Eddie Ellis, all of Melbourne, and David Fast and his wife, Katherine, of Pensacola; two brothers, Larry Ellis and his wife, Cindy, and Phillip Ellis and his wife, Lora; one sister, Brenda Canman and husband Joey, all of Malone; nine grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, and cousins who loved him very much, including David and Charlene Hatcher.

The funeral will be held Friday, Feb. 27, at 3 p.m. CST at Friendship Baptist Church with the Revs. David Hatcher and Van Clack officiating. Burial will be in Rocky Grove Cemetery near Bascom with James and Sikes Funeral Home Maddox Chapel of Marianna directing.

The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. today, Thursday at the funeral home.

Hubert Earl Welch, 57, of Bascom died Tuesday, Feb. 24, 2004, at Jackson Hospital.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. today, Thursday, Feb. 26, at Bascom First Baptist Church. Burial will be in the church cemetery with James and Sikes Funeral Home Maddox Chapel of Marianna directing.

Robert Wesley "Bobby" Standland, 63, of Riverview, a native of Marianna, died Monday, Feb. 23, 2004, at Brandon Regional Hospital in Brandon following an extended illness.

He was of the Methodist faith and a member of St. Andrews United Methodist Church in Brandon. He was an assistant leader for the Boy Scouts. He served his country as a captain in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam conflict. He worked for the State of Florida Department of Revenue Child Support Enforcement.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Mack and Annette Standland.

He is survived by: his loving wife of 34 years, Edna Mae Standland of Riverview; one daughter, Valerie Lattimore and her husband, Tommy, of Newton, N.C.; one son, Robert Edward Standland of Brookesville; one grandson, Alex Poovey of Newton, N.C.; one brother, Jimmy Standland of Marianna; one sister, JoAnn Turner of Marianna; and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.

The funeral will be held Friday, Feb. 27, at 11 a.m. at Trinity Baptist Church with the Revs. Roland Rabon and Al Turner officiating. Burial will be at Pinecrest Memory Gardens. Pallbearers will be Kenneth Daffin, Tommy Daffin, Charles Everett, Lester Meeter, Rich Van Den Burgh and Tommy Lattimore.

The family will receive friends at Lord Funeral Home today, Thursday, from 7 until 9 p.m. or at the residence of his brother, Jimmy Standland, 4373 Deering Street in Marianna.

Flowers will be accepted or donations may be made to a church of your choice.

Lillie B. Lee, 75, of Greenwood died Monday, Feb. 23, 2004, at the Courtyard at the Millpond

She is survived by: three sisters, Hettie Neal (Carey) of Greenwood, Doris Brown of Lakewood, N.J., and Cora Mathis of Linden, N.J.; and three brothers, Mike and Abraham McLeroy, both of Miami, and Robert McLeroy of Edison, N.J.

The funeral will be held Saturday, Feb. 28, at 11 a.m. at New Hope Missionary Baptist Church with the Revs. N. Wilson, L. Williams, W. McCallister and L.V. Farmer officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery with Vann Funeral Home of Marianna in charge of arrangements.

The body will lie at the church one hour prior to the funeral.

Cora Hazine Roberts, 68, of Chattahoochee, a retired word processing systems operator with Florida State Hospital in Chattahoochee, died Tuesday, Feb. 24, 2004, in Tallahassee.

She was a native of River Junction, having lived in this area all her life. She was a member of the First Baptist Church where she was also a member of the 39rs Choir. She was also the pianist at Little Sycamore Baptist Church and Calvary Baptist Church. She worked for the city of Chattahoochee for six and one half years and was a member of the Chattahoochee Women's Club.

She was preceded in death by: her parents, Rev. Samuel J. and Nancy Kattie Hampton; and a brother, Millard F. Hampton.

She is survived by: her husband, Jeffery T. "Shorty" Roberts of Chattahoochee; two godchildren, Jeffery Thomas Clark of Cape Cherry, N.C. and Tracey Leola Clark of Donaldsonville, Ga.; two sisters, Aleen Bush of Chipley and Margie Lockhart of Graceville; one brother, Harvey E. Hampton of Chattahoochee; one granddaughter, Cassie Clark; and many nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be held at 1 p.m. EST Friday, Feb. 27, at First Baptist Church in Chattahoochee. Burial will be at Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in Chattahoochee.

The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. EST today, Feb. 26, at Lanier-Andler Funeral Home in Chattahoochee.

Memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Children's Home, 8415 Buck Lake Road, Tallahassee, FL 32308.

Rev. James Alex McAlpin, 82, of Sneads died Saturday, Feb. 28, 2004, in Jackson Hospital in Marianna.

He was a native and lifelong resident of Jackson County. He was the pastor at Millsprings Baptist Church in Sneads. He was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II and was a retired auto maintenance superintendent at Sunland.

He is survived by: his wife, Vera M. McAlpin of Sneads; three daughters, Darlene (Peewee) McAlpin of Sneads, Gail Nichol and husband Larry of Englewood, and Patsy Roan of Zalfo Springs; two sons, Russell McAlpin and wife Rhonda of Sneads, and Ted McAlpin and wife Vicki of Dellwood; three sisters, Faye Goodson and husband Bill, Marie Alderman and husband Nolan, and Essie Lanier, all of Sneads; eight grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.

The funeral will be held at 10 a.m. CST today, Tuesday, March 2, at Lanier-Andler Funeral Home in Sneads. Burial will be at Millsprings Cemetery in Sneads.

The family received friends from 6 until 8 p.m. Monday, March 1, at the funeral home.

Ada D. Sewell, 88, of Cottondale died Sunday, Feb. 29, 2004, in Marianna.

She was a native and lifelong resident of Jackson County, a homemaker and of the Baptist faith.

He is survived by: one daughter, Charlsy and her husband, Hanice, of Cottondale; one grandson, John Edward Corbin and his wife, Kim; one great-granddaughter, Maygan Corbin; and one sister, Ida Brannon of Panama City.

A graveside service will be held Wednesday, March 3, at 3 p.m. at Vickery Cemetery near Marianna with the Rev. Bill Wheeler officiating and James and Sikes Funeral Home Maddox Chapel of Marianna directing.

The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. today, Tuesday at Maddox Chapel.

Avie Howell, 57, of Sneads died Sunday, Feb. 29, 2004, in Marianna.

She was a native and lifelong resident of Jackson County. She was a homemaker and a member of El Bethel Assembly of God Church.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Estelle Howell, and her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. I. A. Howell Sr.

She is survived by: her cousin and caregiver, Nell Gilley and family; a special cousin, Roger Howell and wife Gail; and many other cousins and friends.

The funeral will be held Wednesday, March 3, 2004, at 2 p.m. CST at El Bethel Assembly of God Church with the Rev. Jack Howell officiating. Burial will be in Dykes Cemetery with James and Sikes Funeral Home Maddox Chapel directing.

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the funeral at the church.
