Rufus Moody, Jr., 71

Mr. Rufus Moody, Jr., 71, entered into eternal rest on Sunday, January 4, 2009, at his residence at 409 Kicklighter Street, Glennville, GA, after an extended illness. He was born on December 13, 1937, in Long County to the late Rufus L. and Sarah Moody.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Lizzie Mae (Cook) Moody of Glennville, GA; one son and daughter - in - law, Rufus J. and Joanie Moody of Harlem, NY; two daughters and sons - in - law, Caembria and Burlon English of New Rochelle, NY and Jacqueline and Ronnie Moody of Lithonia, GA; six grandchildren, one great grandchild; one sister and brother - in - law, Wynette and James Bradford of Stugburg, NY and a host of other relatives and friends.
Visitation will be held from 6 - 8 p.m. on Friday, January 9, 2009, at King and Son’s Funeral Home in Glennville, GA. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., on Saturday, January 10, 2009, at First African Baptist Church in Glennville, GA.
King and Son’s Funeral Home of Glennville, GA is in charge of the arrangements.

Vannie Lee Rolls, 64

Vannie Lee Rolls, 64, passed away Saturday, January 3, 2009, at Liberty Regional Medical Center in Hinesville. The Chatham County native had lived in this area most of his life. He was a member of Pigott Branch Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents, Attis and Fannie Rolls and a brother, Leland.
He is survived by his sister and brother - in - law, Sue Nell and Roy Peacock of Felda, FL; brother and sister - in - law, Henry and Donna Rolls of Rochelle, GA and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Funeral services were held Monday, January 5, 2009, from the Chapel of Brannen - Kennedy Funeral Home. Burial followed in DeLoach Family Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Fred McKenzie, Denver Barrow, Johnny Barrow, Craig Burkhalter, Earl Cammack and Paul Rushing.
Memorials may be sent to the church of one’s choice.

Laverne Watson Thomas, 63

Laverne Watson Thomas, 63, passed away Sunday, January 3, 2009, at her residence. The Tattnall County native had lived in this area most of her life. She was a homemaker, a loving mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. She was preceded in death by her parents, Lester and Elizabeth Watson and husband, Allen L. Thomas.
She is survived by her sons and daughters in law, Richard Allen and Melody Thomas of Macon, GA, Allen L. Jr. and Angela Thomas of Oralando, FL, Marion Alex Thomas of Glennville and Daniel and Lisa Thomas of Glennville; sisters, Shirley Patterson of Perry, FL, and Patsy Netherson, of Perry, GA; brother, Larry Watson of Summerville, SC; 13 grandchildren, three great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, January 6, 2009, from the Chapel of Brannen - Kennedy Home with Reverend Jimmy Bargeron officiating. Burial followed in Pine Grove Baptist Church cemetery near Reidsville.

Henry Walker, 72

Mr. Henry Walker, 72, passed away Sunday, January 4, 2009, at Memorial Health University Medical Center in Savannah, GA. He was a member of St. James AME in Glennville, GA, and a member of Christian Life Ministries in Miami, Florida. He was retired from the Canada Dry Bottling Company of Miami, Florida.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Mildred Walker of Glennville, GA; two sons, Darius Crawford of Anderson, SC, and Calvin Wright of Miami, FL; four daughters, Sandra and Gwen Crawford, both of Miami, FL, Clara Bell Smith of Ft. Lauderdale, FL, and Daisy L. Rile of Augusta, GA, and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 10, at 1 p.m., at Calvary Baptist Church in Miami, FL.
King and Son’s Funeral Home of Glennville, GA, is in charge of the local arrangements.

Robert (Bob) D. Brand, 62

Robert (Bob) D. Brand, 62, passed away Friday, December 26, 2008, at his residence. The DeKalb County native had lived in this area for the past 16 years. He was a retired truck driver and loved fishing. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and loved to make people laugh. He was of the Baptist faith.
He is survived by his wife, Sandra Brand of Glennville; children, James Allen Brand of Union City, GA, Angela Brand Walcott of New Port Richey, FL, Charlton Blocker of Edgeville, SC and Pamela Winn of McCormick, SC; sisters, Mary Majaila of Lilburn, GA, Sarah Sheppard of Social Circle, GA and June Hunt of Alabama; brothers, Clark Brand of Oxford, GA, Jim Brand of Emerson, GA and Ernest Brand of Goodhope, GA; grandchildren, Lauren Walcott and Vanessa Blocker and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Funeral services were held Monday, December 29, 2008, at the Chapel of Brannen - Kennedy Funeral Home with Elder Jerry Hunt officiating. Burial followed in Glennville Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers were Richard McFadden, John North, Al Robinson, Frank Smith, Ricky Dukes and Lamar Cook.

Frances Padgett Coy, 71

Frances Padgett Coy, 71, passed away Friday, December 12, 2008, at the Community Hospice center in Vidalia. The Indian River County Florida native had lived in Fort Lauderdale for many years before moving to Reidsville a year ago. She was a member of the Reidsville United Methodist Church.
She is survived by her friends at Reidsville United Methodist Church.
Memorial services will be conducted January 4, 2009, at 12:15 p.m., from the Reidsville United Methodist Church with Reverend Marc Foster officiating. Bradley B. Anderson Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Terrence (Tee) Anthony Dinkins, 23

On Monday, December 22, 2008, Terrence (Tee) Anthony Dinkins departed this life at Memorial Hospital in Savannah, Georgia. Terrence is the son of Marilyn Lorraine Dinkins and the late John Anthony (Tony) Dinkins. He graduated from Glennville High School with the class of 1992 and entered the United States (U.S.) Navy immediately after graduation. Terrence actively served in the U.S. Navy for 12 years and was honorably discharged.
He received the following awards from Meritorious Unit Commendation: Battle “E” Ribbon; Good Conduct Medal (3); Sea Service Deployment Ribbon (2); Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal; Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal. He received a certificate in Air Conditioning Technology, Air Conditioning Installation and Repair Specialist from Ogeechee Technical College in Statesboro, GA, in December 2006.
His father, Jonn Anthony Dinkins; grandmother, Mary Lee Tomblin; grandfather, Johnnie Eashmond and great grandmother, Cannie Bell Wilkerson, preceded him in death.
He leaves to cherish his memories a loving mother, Mrs. Marilyn L. Dinkins of Reidsville; one sister, Ms. Andrea Hicks and fiancée Rodney Greene of Stockbridge, GA; one brother, Mr. Rodney Dinkins and fiancée Sheila Dease of Pooler, GA; one step - son, Devin Corbin of Melbourne, FL; two nephews, Anthony Hicks, Jr., and Jeremiah Coxton - Dease; paternal grandmother, Ms. Thelma Eashmond of Glennville; maternal grandfather, Mr. Arthur Tomblin of Reidsville; one uncle Mr. Ronnie (Andrea) Tomblin of Dacula, GA; one aunt, Mrs. Patricia (Morris) Meriwether or Milwaukee, WI; four great uncles, Mr. Willie (Belton) Dinkins of Vidalia, Mr. Loriane (Lucy Mae) Howard of Reidsville, Mr. Raleigh Nobles of Loganville, GA, Mr. Bennie Earl Nobles, of Claxton, two great aunts, Mrs. Frances (Grady) McCray of Metter, GA and Reverend Brenda N. Brown of Hardeeville, SC; and a host of other family and friends.
Funeral services were held Monday, December 29, 2008, at King and Sons Funeral Home Chapel in Glennville, GA.

Marion Jordan Hinson, 65

It is with great sadness that the family of Marion Jordan Hinson announces her passing on Wednesday, December 24, 2008, Christmas Eve.
Born April 30, 1943, in Reidsville, Georgia, she was a loving daughter to Mr. Thomas Clarence Jordan and Mrs. Alma Simms Jordan. She was a graduate of Reidsville High School, captain of the cheerleaders, and an alumni of Georgia Southern University. She was a wonderful mother to two loving sons, Sean Micheal Hinson and Patrick Shannon Hinson, who now miss her dearly and always will. She was a 30 - year loyal and hard - working employee of the Medical University of South Carolina and retired in 2005.
Memorial service will be held Saturday, January 3, at 1 pm at Old Fort Baptist Church, 10505 Dorchester Road, Summerville, SC 29485.

Ruby Iddins, 85

Mrs. Ruby Iddins, 85, passed away Sunday morning, December 28, 2008, at the Glenvue Nursing Home. The Barbour County, Alabama, native had lived in Reidsville most of her life. She was a homemaker, employed with Claxton Manufacture for twenty years and was a volunteer at the Tattnall Nursing Home for many years. She was preceded in death by her husband, Cecil H. Iddins and a son, Cecil Iddins Jr.
She is survived by three daughters, Cindy Brown of Belhaven, NC, LaRuth Sutton of Metter and Karen Calhoun of Reidsville; son, Terry Iddins of Reidsville; sixteen grandchildren; twenty - one great grandchildren; three great - great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Wednesday, December 31 from the Chapel of Bradley B. Anderson Funeral Home with Rev. Sterling Bargeron officiating. Interment will follow in the Reidsville City Cemetery.
Pallbearers are Gregory Willoughby, Dennis Brown, Andy Sutton, Wade Calhoun, Brian Willoughby and Charlie Iddins.
Bradley B. Anderson Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Melburn Bowie Kelly, 76

Mr. Melburn Bowie Kelly of Ridgeland, SC, age 76 died Wednesday, December 24, 2008, at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Savannah.
Mr. Kelly was preceded in death by his parents, Lenward Kelly and Corene Kelly Holland of Sardis, GA.
He is survived by his wife, Joyce Miles Kelly of Ridgeland; three sons and daughters in - law, Mel and Gayla Kelly of Claxton, GA, Captain Michael and Janet Kelly of Martinez, GA, and Pat and Kristy Kelly of Ridgeland; four grandchildren, Chris Kelly of Statesboro, Hayley Kelly Bond of Germany, Kathryn Kelly of Ridgeland, and Wyatt Kelly of Martinez; two sisters, Elsie Kelly of Statesboro and Betty Kelly Mixon of Daytona Beach Shores, FL. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
Mr. Kelly served in the US Navy and later earned his Bachelors, Masters, and Education Specialist degrees from Georgia Southern. He was a long time high school band director and educator in Evans, Tattnall, Burke and other South Georgia counties.
A graveside service was held Saturday, December 27 in Bluffton, SC.
