Joseph S. Hopper, 69

Joseph S. Hopper, 69, passed away Tuesday, April 28, 2009, at his residence in Montgomery, AL. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Lucy Nell Hopper of Orange, Texas.
Survivors include his wife of 48 years, Betty Hopper; daughter and son - in - law, Heidi and Marc McCall; sister and brother - in - law, Marilyn and A.C.; granddaughter, Casey Ryals; two great grandchildren and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.
Mr. Hopper graduated from Sam Houston University in Huntsville, TX in 1966 with a degree in Criminal Justice. He spent 40 years in the field of Corrections in Texas, Georgia, and Alabama from 1963 to 2003. After retirement, he was active in the Heritage Club of First United Methodist, Sunday School and a volunteer tutor teaching adults to read through the Central Alabama Laubach Literacy Council.
The family requests in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Karl Stegall Scholarship Fund, First United Methodist Church, 2416 West Cloverdale Park, Montgomery, AL 36106 or the Central Alabama Laubach Literacy Council, 2048 W. Fairview Ave, Montgomery, AL 36108.
A Memorial Service was held on Friday, May 1, 2009, at First United Methodist Church.
Southern Memorial Funeral Home and Crematorium was in charge of arrangements.

Wasdon Lee “Peanut” Jones, 45

Wasdon Lee “Peanut” Jones, 45, passed away Tuesday evening, April 28, 2009, at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Savannah. The Evans County native had lived in Tattnall County most of his life. He was the owner of Jones Trucking and was of the Baptist faith. He was preceded in death by his parents, Lee and Sandra Jones; his first wife, Crystal Kennedy Jones and sister, Pat Pinckney.
He is survived by his wife, Tina Knight Manning Jones of Reidsville; daughter and son - in - law, Kristi and Joey Estep of Waycross; three step sons, Bubba Kennedy of Glennville, Michael Manning of Buford, GA, and Andrew B. Manning of Savannah; three sisters and brothers - in - law, Valree and Steve Holton of Reidsville, Jean and Lester Slaton of Reynolds and Peggy Munch of Port St. Lucie, FL; three brothers, Bill Bargeron of Hagan, Bob and Debbie Jones of Ailey and Chuck Jones of Claxton; five grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were conducted Saturday morning, May 2, 2009, from the Chapel of Bradley B. Anderson Funeral Home with Pastor Randy McDuffie officiating. Interment followed in the Battle Creek Primitive Baptist Church.
Memorials may be made to Tattnall CARES, P.O. Box 2356, Reidsville, GA 30453 or Battle Creek Primitive Church Building Fund, c/o Jesse Cranford, 323 Cranford Lane, Reidsville, GA 30453.
Pallbearers were Danny Jones, Ronald Curl, Malcolm Jones, Travis Jones, Tony O’Neal and John Mackinnon. Honorary pallbearers were Charles Bashlor, Joe Bar, Kevin Mosley and Joey Anderson.

Felisha Powell Palmer, 29

Felisha Powell Palmer, age 29, passed away Monday morning, May 4, 2009, at her residence. The Candler County native had lived in Reidsville most of her life, prior to moving to Collins eight years ago. She was a homemaker and attended the Church of God of Prophecy. She was a devoted mother, daughter, sister, and friend. She will be remembered as an intelligent, outspoken, giving and loving woman with a wonderful sense of humor who loved to paint, send text messages and took great pride in her “spotless” home. She was preceded in death by her brother, Robert Lee Powell Jr.; paternal grandfather, Billy Powell Sr.; uncle, Donald Padgett and a special friend, Dwayne Anderson.
She is survived by her husband, Patrick Palmer; two sons, Dalton and Derek Palmer; mother, Patricia Powell, all of Collins; father and stepmother, Robert and Michelle Powell of Baxley; sister and brother - in - law, Katie and Brett Thompson of Collins; brother and sisters - in - law, Bobby and Julie Powell, and Macy Davis all of Collins; paternal grandmother, Jean Powell of FL; maternal grandparents, Hubert and Grace Padgett of Reidsville; mother and father - in - law, Pam and Johnny Davis of Collins; uncles and aunts, Wayne Powell, Allen and Karen Libby, Betty Powell, all of FL, Billy and Lisa Powell Jr. of Baltimore, MD, Nancy Overcash of Macon, Martha Joyce of Reidsville; two nieces, Haleigh and Hannah Thompson and one nephew, Levi Powell, all of Collins; sister by choice, Amanda Johnson, and numerous cousins.
Visitation will begin at 5:00 p.m. Wednesday at the Funeral Home, and funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, May 7 from the Reidsville Baptist Church. Interment will follow in the Reidsville City Cemetery. Also a candlelight service will be held on Monday, May 11, at 7:00 p.m. at Felicia’s home on Ansley Ander Avenue to celebrate her life on her birthday.
Memorials are asked to be given to the Dalton and Derek Palmer Trust Fund, c/o South Georgia Bank, PO Box 367, Reidsville, GA 30453.

Mary Helen Stanfield White, 87

Mary Helen Stanfield White, age 87, went home to celebrate with her Lord on Saturday, May 2, 2009, following a lengthy illness. Born April 22, 1922, in Reidsville, Georgia, her greatest gift to all that knew her was her love of life, love of people, love of family and love of the Lord. She was the long time matriarch of our family and leaves her legacy as a loving daughter, wife, mother, sister, Mema, and Nana.
She attended Reidsville High School and Georgia Southern College. She later moved to Atlanta and lived there until her retirement from The Center for Disease Control (CDC) after 42 years of service. After retirement, she moved to Macon to live near her daughter.
She was a member of Oakhurst Baptist Church in Decatur, and later joined Liberty United Methodist Church in Macon.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Willie Alexander Stanfield, her father, Judge David Lester Stanfield and her brother, Lester Alexander Stanfield.
She is survived by two children, her son Kennon Alexander White and his wife Anne. of Advance, NC, and her daughter Rosalyn White Puckett and husband Carl of Macon. She had six grandchildren, Shauna (Jason) Miller, Jennifer Puckett, Amanda White, Austin McCarthy, Carl Puckett, III and Rachel White. She had three great - grandchildren, David, Grace Ann and Emmalee Miller, many cousins, close relatives, and friends. The family would like to thank her long - time companion and caregiver, Ola Finney, for all the love, support, and compassion shown during her illness; the family also expresses their heartfelt appreciation and gratitude to the caring and compassionate staff at Heartland Hospice of Macon, Georgia.
Pallbearers in Macon were Kevin Moreau, Brian Baggs, Reggie Wilson, Steve Cheek, Juddy Hallman, and Wesley Moulton. Honorary pallbearers were Hugh Bryant and Chris Westbrook. Honorary pallbearers were Doug Whitaker, John Cheney, Jack Hill, Robert Sisson, Jackie Trim, and Donald Kennedy.
Funeral services were held Monday, May 4, 2009, at 11:00 a.m. at Liberty United Methodist Church in Macon with Rev. Bob Norwood officiating. Burial was in the Reidsville City Cemetery.
Helen loved flowers; but if you prefer, please give to a charity of your choice, or Liberty United Methodist Church, Macon, Reidsville Baptist or United Methodist Church, Reidsville, Georgia or The Methodist Children’s Home, Macon, Georgia.

Deborah Futch Boyles, 48

Deborah Futch Boyles, age 48, passed away Friday morning at East Georgia Regional Medical Center in Statesboro. She was reared in Effingham County and lived in Statesboro for the past twenty five years. She loved crocheting and listening to her gospel music.
She is survived by three daughters, Pamela Ann (Wayne) McCarty of Douglas, Tabatha Lynn (Alan) Davis of Reidsville, and Georgianna Boyles of Atlanta; two sons, Joshua Howard (Jessica) Boyles of Guyton, and Larry Watson Boyles, Jr. of Savannah; three Sisters, Linda Cottis of Savannah, Donna Bridges and Teresa Rollins both of Statesboro; two brothers, Randy Futch of Columbus, and Ronald Futch of Jesup; seven grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers were Alan Davis, Wayne McCarty, Lance Mangrum, Sr., Joshua Boyles, Lance Mangrum, Jr., and Shawn Burgess.
Graveside services were held Sunday, June 7, 2009, at 2:00 p.m. at the Beulah Church cemetery in Pembroke, GA, with Rev. Sterling Bargeron officiating.

Norman J. Metzinger, 89

Norman J. Metzinger, 89, passed away Thursday, June 4, 2009, under the care of his family and Ogeechee Area Hospice. He was born in Pittsburg, PA, and had lived in St. Petersburg, FL, before moving to Glennville in 1955. He and his family owned and operated the San Su Motel and Restaurant for 33 years. He was one of the first in this area to serve Pizza and Spaghetti and was well known for his special homemade sauces. He was a World War II Army Veteran and a member of Glennville VFW Post #8379. He was a Charter member of St. Jude Catholic Church and enjoyed being with his family.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Ethel Metzinger of Glennville; one son, Norman “Butch” Metzinger of Glennville; two daughters and sons - in - law, Susan Metzinger McLendon and Bennie McLendon of Lyons and Sandra Metzinger Durrence and Glenn Durrence of Glennville; five grandchildren, two great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Mass of Christian Burial was held Saturday, June 6, 2009, at 2 p.m., at St. Jude Catholic Church with Father Tom Murphy officiating. Burial followed in Glennville City cemetery with Military Honors.
Pallbearers were B.J. McLendon, Derk McLendon, Wesley Durrence, Blake Durrence, Allen Hollis, Jamie Blocker and Steven Blocker.

Annie Byrd Roberson, 87

Evangelist Annie Byrd Roberson, 87, died Thursday, June 4, 2009. She was born in October 1921 to the late Felix Byrd and Mattie Byrd of Cobbtown, GA. She was one of eight children.
She had lived in St. Petersburg, FL, for over 60 years. She married Matthew Roberson and they had eleven children and a host of grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held in St. Petersburg, FL, Saturday, June 13, at 11 a.m. at Old Landmark Cathedral Church of God in Christ, 42102 6th St. South.
Zion Hill Mortuary, 1700 49th St. South, St. Petersburg, FL, is in charge of the arrangements.

Mary August Sapp, 79

Mary August Sapp, 79, passed away Wednesday, June 3, 2009, at Glenvue Nursing Home. She was born in Miami, FL, and had lived in this area most of her life. She was a personal home care assistant, a homemaker and a member of Glennville First United Pentecostal Church.
She is survived by her children, Russell Wayne August of Haines City, FL, Charles W. (Chuck) August of Winter Haven, FL, Sandra Diane Ingves and Jay Ingves of Hartford, CT, Mary Elizabeth Driggers and Donnie Driggers of Glennville, GA and Deborah L. Ditefsen and Jeff Ditefsen of Jesup; seven grandchildren; seven great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Saturday, June 6, 2009, at 11 a.m., at Glennville First Pentecostal Church with Reverend James M. Holland officiating. Burial followed in Glennville City Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Johnny Andrews, Rick Andrews, Danny Holliday, Eddie Holliday, Phillip Bragg and Gerald Lynn.

Susan Schaeffer, 52

Susan Schaeffer, age 52, passed away Tuesday afternoon, June 2, 2009, at her residence under the care of Southern Care Hospice and her family. The Ocala, Florida, native had lived in Collins for the past fifteen years. She was a homemaker and was of the Baptist Faith. She will always be remembered as a lady that loved to take care of her family.
She is survived by three sons, Daniel Schaeffer of Thompson, Patrick Schaeffer and Dalton Allison both of Collins; three grandchildren, Christopher Brice, Kayla, and Shayna Hicks all of Collins.
Funeral services were held Friday, June 5, 2009, at 11:00 a.m., from the Chapel of Bradley B. Anderson Funeral Home. Interment followed in the Collins Baptist Church cemetery in Collins.
