Mr. Joe W. Rodgers

Mr. Joe W. Rodgers, age 75, of McDonough, Georgia passed away January 20, 2008 with his loving wife Dicey by his side. Mr. Rodgers was born in Point Pleasant, West Virginia, son of the late Ethel Vansickle and Charles Rodgers. Mr. Rodgers served his country in the US Army from 1952 to 1955 receiving a Parachutist Badge, a United Nations Service Medal, and a Korean Service Medal with two Bronze Service Stars, a National Defense Service Medal and a Republic of Korea Presidential Unit Citation. He was a member of the American Legion Post 55 for 53 years and a member of the VFW Post 5448.

He is survived by his wife, Dicey Rodgers of McDonough; son and daughter-in-law, Joe and Jan Rodgers of Grove City, Ohio and several siblings.

Services will be held at a later date. The family would like to thank Pastor Dave and all of the staff at Sacred Journey for their devoted care and love. Haisten Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Norman Virlyn Bledsoe

Mr. Norman Virlyn Bledsoe, age 82, died January 21, 2008. Mr. Bledsoe was born in Henry County. He was an avid coin collector and enjoyed refinishing furniture. He was a life long member of The First United Methodist Church in McDonough. He also served in the Army during WWII in Europe. His wife, Mrs. Mary Wilkinson Bledsoe and granddaughter, Wendy Polk, preceded him in death.

Survivors include his son; David and Patricia Bledsoe of Jackson, daughter; Reba Polk of Forsyth, grandchildren; Jeff, Steven, and Jason, and great grandchildren; Collin, Cayley, Morgan, Hamilton.

Services for Mr. Bledsoe were held January 23, at Haisten/Eastlawn Memorial Park. Haisten Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

John C. Linley, Sr.

John C. Linley, Sr., age 83, of McDonough, Georgia died January 23, 2008. He was born in Brilliant, Alabama to the late Jack B. and Adele Weeks Linley. He proudly served in the Army for 28 years and after retiring from the military he worked 16 years in management at Sears. Mr. Linley loved working in his workshop and collecting tools. He could fix or build anything. He also enjoyed reading, working on cars, working in the yard and spending time outdoors. But most important to him were his grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by his sister, Doris Jean Linley.

Mr. Linley is survived by his wife, Opalene Linley of McDonough; son, John C. (Carol) Linley Jr. of Fayetteville, North Carolina; daughters and sons-in-law, Diane L. (Larry) Hendrix of Lithia Springs, Janet L. (Dan) Robinson of Stockbridge; grandchildren, Theresa E. Hendrix of Atlanta, Alex R.Gregor of Statesboro; sisters, Mildred Sue Tidwell of Brilliant, Alabama, Mary Lee Crowe of Pelham, Alabama and Joann Tidwell of Guin, Alabama.

Services were held January 26 at the Chapel of Cannon Cleveland Funeral Directors with Rev. Dave Riley and Rev. Curtis O’Neal officiating. Interment Westminster Memorial Gardens in Peachtree City. Those who wish may make donations to the Veterans Wall of Honor Fund, P.O. Box 2849, Stockbridge, GA 30281. Cannon Cleveland Funeral Directors in charge of arrangements.

Henry Grady Reeves, Jr.

Henry Grady Reeves, Jr. of Forest Park, Georgia died January 23, 2008 at 87 years old. Reeves spent much of his time doing Masonic work and attending the Morrow Lodge, Forest Park Daylite Lodge and Grant Park Lodge. He was a three time past master of Grant Park Lodge and Past Master of the Morrow Lodge and an active, participating member till the day he died. He was also a Veteran, a 50 Year member of the Moose Lodge and the member of many other worthy organizations. Although retired, he was at heart always a truck driver, never giving up his passion for the road. He was well known for his story telling and quick wit and all who spent any time with him left with a story and happy memory. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

He is survived by former wife, Mary Lou Chambers and their five daughters and sons-in-law: Jimmy and Sharon Roddy of Locust Grove, Billy and Kathy Dixon, Darrell and Deborah Bruce, Ben and Melody McKenzie and Eddie and Gale Knox; thirteen grandchildren and 20 great grandchildren.

Services were held in the chapel of Thomas Scroggs Funeral Home in Morrow on January 27. Intermen at Forest Hills Memorial Cemetery. Thomas Scroggs Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Gene Spezia

Gene “T-Shirt Kelly” Spezia, age 77, of McDonough, Georgia died January 26, 2008. He was born in Cayuga, Indiana to the late Camille Spezia and Bessie Ellen McGinnis. T-Shirt Kelly served in the Air Force from 1947 to 1950. He was owner and operator of G & K Enterprises in Riverdale and worked alongside his wife Barbara for 35 years. He enjoyed traveling, yard sales, and flea markets. But most of all independence and life itself. He was preceded in death by his sister, Betty Spezia.

T-Shirt Kelly is survived by his wife, Barbara J. Spezia of McDonough; daughters, Kelly (Eddie) Hellinger of McDonough, Gina (Mark) Whisnant of Stockbridge; five grandsons, Cameron, Tyler, Jaret, Dylan, and Walker; sisters, Madeline Everett of Florida and Shirly Brauaier of Washington .

Services will be held at 4:00 p.m. on January 31 at the Chapel of Cannon Cleveland Funeral Directors with Cindy Kelley officiating. The family will receive friends Thursday, January 31, 2008 from 3:00 PM to 4:00 PM at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to The Alzheimer’s Foundation in the name of Gene Spezia, 1925 Century Blvd., NE, Atlanta, GA 30345. Cannon Cleveland Funeral Directors, in charge of arrangements.

Ruth Irene Bradley

Mrs. Ruth Irene Bradley Newton, age 84, of McDonough, Georgia, died January 28, 2008. Mrs. Newton was born in Genesee County, Michigan, the daughter of the late Gladys M. Mills and George D. Bradley. She was a devoted homemaker who enjoyed her family, shopping, eating out and TV Game Shows. She was a member of Greater Life Pentecostal Church in McDonough. Mrs. Newton was preceded in death by her husband, Lee Sheldon Newton and several siblings.

Survivors are her sons and daughters-in-law, Richard Lee and Barbara Newton of Belleville, Michigan and Gary R. and Yolanda Newton Sr. of McDonough; eight grandchildren and eight great grandchildren; sister, Beulah White of Florida and numerous nieces and nephews

Services were held January 29 in the chapel of Haisten Funeral Home with Pastor Tim Montgomery officiating. Interment at Cherry Hill Cemetery Association in Canton, Michigan. Haisten Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

Betty Ann Brown Holmes

Mrs. Betty Ann Brown Holmes, age 74, of McDonough, Georgia passed away January 28. Mrs. Holmes was born in Floyd County, the daughter of the late Nettie Neola Cobb and Jesse Jackson Brown. She was a member of Union Grove Baptist Church. Betty enjoyed her family, shopping, reading, needle work, cooking and studying her Bible. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Rhonda Jane Brown Thompson and a sister, Barbara Rotella.

Survivors are her husband, Oliver Wendell Holmes of McDonough; children, Darrell and Marianna Brown and Sue and Christopher Evans all of McDonough; stepson, Michael Shane Holmes; grandchildren, Rachel Brown of Huntington Beach, California, Richard Evans and Julie Johnson of Mableton, Derrick Thompson and Jennifer Thompson both of Montgomery, Alabama; great grandchild, Kyra Harrell and several nieces and nephews.

Services were held January 30 at Haisten/Eastlawn Memorial Park with Rev. Steve Murell and Pastor Dave Riley officiating. Haisten Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
