Mrs. Abbie Nell Manning Browning, 85 of Soperton, died Tuesday, February 17, 2009.
Mrs. Browning was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Louvenia Graham Clements; her husbands, Clyde Manning and Truitt Browning; and three children, Billy Manning, Nathan Manning and Laura Jean Manning. She was a retired from the Soperton Manufacturing Company and was a member of the Lothair United Methodist Church.

Survivors include her children, Mack (Trellis) Manning, of Palm Bay, Florida, Michael (Sue) Manning, of Spring Valley, Illinois, Sidney Manning and Nell Price, both of Soperton, Carolyn (Tom) Tucker, of McDonough, Georgia, Carl (Barbara) Browning and Tommy (Carol) Browning, both of Glenwood, and Maxine (Fred) Worley, of Waycross; grandchildren, Robert Tucker, Brian Tucker, Lisa M. Jones, Rayford Price, Jr., Jimmy Price, Marsha Perry, Eddie Manning, Little Clyde Manning, Brandon Manning, Wanda Chaney, Jessica Manning, Lauren Dimond, Melissia Rogers, Crystal Hutcheson, Mitchel Manning, Darrien Manning, Sandra Marsh, Mark Browning, Glen Browning, Greg Browning and Brian Browning; great - grandchildren, Hunter Jones, Christian Jones, Madison Tucker, Dylan Tucker, Caiden Stien, Conner Stien, Brian Tucker, Jr., Thomas Tucker, Ensico Tucker, Felippe Tucker, Hailey Manning, Abbie Manning, Chase Manning, Courtney Manning, Leah Spivey, Drew Spivey, Rachel Perry, Will Perry, Devan Price, Josh Price, Dustin Price, Chelsie Hutcheson, Kelsey Hutcheson, Riley Rogers, Ryan Rogers, Ragan Rogers, Austin Manning, Jimmy Chaney, Lance Manning, Peyton Manning and Eli Manning, Samantha Manning, Morgan Jones and Ashia Jones.

Funeral: 11:00 a.m. Thursday in the Chapel of Sammons Funeral Home with the Reverend Tommy Veal officiating. Burial: Rosemont Baptist Church Cemetery.

Visitation 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Curtis "Buddy" Rogers, Jr.
Curtis (Buddy) Rogers, Jr., 53, of Soperton died Saturday morning, March 7, 2009.
Mr. Rogers was a lifelong resident of Treutlen County and was preceded in death by his parents, Curtis Rogers, Sr. and Lucile Page Rogers, and a grandson, Justin.

He was elected Clerk of Superior Court, Treutlen County in 1983. He was selected 8th Judicial District of Georgia “Clerk of the Year in 2001 and again in 2009. Over the years he has been instrumental in many areas relating to the organization of Clerks of Superior Courts. During his tenure as clerk Governor Zell Miller selected him to serve on the Georgia Technology Committee, which was established through the governor’s office, and he served on this committee for eight years. From 1995 - 2003 he served on the legislative committee for Georgia’s Clerks of Superior Courts and from 1990 - 1996 he served as chairman of the 8th Judicial District, after being elected by the clerks of that district. Later, he served as president of the Council of Superior Court Clerks of Georgia from January 1, 1999 through December 31, 2000.

Additionally, he has led seminars to assist in training newly elected clerks in the execution of their duties. Presently, he was part of the committee that developed the Georgia Superior Court Clerk’s Reference Manual, which is an instructional CD for operating all Superior Court Clerks’ offices in the State of Georgia.

He attended Boiling Springs Baptist Church, Treutlen County.

Survivors include his wife, Jeannie Stephens Rogers; daughter, April Rogers, Macon; son and daughter - in - law, Jody and Melissia Rogers, Soperton; sisters, Sylvia Norris, Joy (Clayton) Garner, Peggy (Kenneth) Barrick, Sarah (Wayne) Cauley, Johnnie Brooks (Kenny Bryan), all of Soperton; mother - in - law, Ovis Stephens, Cordele; grandchildren, Blake Rogers, Riley, Ryan and Ragan Rogers; and nieces and nephews.

Services will be held in Soperton Trinity Assembly of God at 11 a.m. Monday, March 9, with Sheriff Tommy Corbin, Rev. Curtis Sumner and Rev. H. G. Ridgdill officiating. Burial will be in Orianna Cemetery, Treutlen County.

The family will receive friends at Sammons Funeral Home, Soperton, Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m.

James Earl Morris
Mr. James Earl Morris, 89, of Adrian died at his home Friday, April 24.
Mr. Morris was born in Johnson County and was preceded in death by his parents, Willie and Alice Tucker Morris, and his wife of seventy years, Eloise Kea Morris. He was a retired farmer and carpenter and was a member of Mt. Olive Church of the Nazarene, Johnson County.

Survivors include three children, Vivian (Garland) Stephens, Glennville, Clark (Hazel) Morris, Adrian, Thomas (Kay) Morris, Windermere, FL; sister - in - law, Dot Morris, Adrian; six grandchildren, Clark Morris, Jr., Valerie Stephens Zecchin, Greg Stephens, Darby Stephens, Scott Morris, Julie Morris; and ten great - grandchildren.

Services will be held in Mt. Olive Church of the Nazarene at 3 p.m. Sunday, April 26. Burial will be in Poplar Springs Church Cemetery, Adrian.

The family will receive friends at the Sammons Funeral Home Saturday from 6 to 8 p.m.

Alma B. Martin
Mrs. Alma B. Martin, 97, of Soperton died Wednesday, April 22, 2009.
Mrs. Martin was a lifelong resident of Treutlen County and was preceded in death by her parents, George W. and Cora P. Braddy, and husband, J.C. Martin. She was a Beautician and a Baptist.

Although she had no children of her own, she was a special mother to her nieces and nephews. She will be remembered for her beautiful flower gardens and her love of animals.

Survivors include a brother, Malcolm Braddy, Soperton; special niece, Sonja Oliver, Macon; nieces and nephews.

Services will be held in the Chapel of Sammons Funeral Home at 2 p.m. Friday, April 24, with the Rev. Donny Crosby officiating. Burial will be in Midway Church Cemetery, Treutlen County.

A visitation will be held at the funeral home one hour before services.

Hattie Blanche Logue (Sissybob)
Mrs. Hattie Blanche Logue (Sissybob), 57, of Soperton died Saturday, March 21.
Mrs. Logue was born in Michigan and was preceded in death by her parents, Eugene and Hattie E. Johnson Goodwin; brothers, Roy D. Goodwin, Michael D. Goodwin and Gary W. Goodwin.H. Logue She was employed with Trane of Vidalia.

Survivors include her husband, David Alonzo (Lonzo) Logue, Sr.; sons, Sevn Dickey and David Alonzo Logue, Jr., both of Soperton; daughters, Sheila (Alex) Lyles, August (John) Brinson, and Susan (Jarred) Brinson all of Soperton; Janet (Eddie) Snelgrove, Dublin; sister, Janet Barber, Dawsonville; 20 grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

Services will be held in the Chapel of Sammons Funeral Home at 2 p.m. Tuesday, March 24, with the Rev. Donny Crosby officiating. Burial will be in the Logue Family Cemetery, Soperton.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday, March 23 at the funeral home.

Rev. William "Bill" Sweat
Rev. William Theodore “Bill” Sweat, 72, of Tarrytown died Friday, April 03, 2009.
Rev. Sweat was born in Treutlen County and was preceded in death by his parents, Bascum and Annie Mae Kitchens Sweat, and sister, Olene McDaniel. He served in the US Navy for four years and was an appliance service technician. He was employed with the Housing Authority of the City of Soperton for seventeen years and retired as Executive Director in 1999.

He was ordained as a Baptist minister in 1979 and pastored churches in Glynn, Toombs, and Laurens Counties. He conducted a jail ministry in Treutlen County for seven years and also served as Chaplain for the Treutlen Shock Unit. He was a member of Harmony Baptist Church.

Rev. Sweat was a 32 degree Mason and Past Master of Laurens County Lodge, Dublin and Harmony Lodge #405 in Soperton. He also served as Master of the 12th Masonic District and six years as District Deputy to the Grand Master of the Grand Lodge of Georgia F&AM.;

Survivors include his wife, Editha Brantley Sweat; son, William Alan (Lynn) Sweat, Dexter; two daughters, Alma Kay Vaughn Meeks, Tarrytown, Elizabeth Ann Young, Soperton; three sisters, Maxine Carter, Soperton, Marjorie Keen, East Dublin, Barbara Jenkins, Perry; ten grandchildren and six great - grandchildren.

Services will be held in the Chapel of Sammons Funeral Home at 2 p.m. Sunday, April 5, with the Reverends Donny Crosby, W. L. Currie and Wayne Durden officiating. Burial will be in Harmony cemetery with Masonic Rites.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Saturday from 6 to 8 p.m.

Jewell C. Edge
Mrs. Jewell C. Edge, 87, of Tarrytown died Monday, April 20.
Mrs. Edge was a lifelong resident of Montgomery County and was preceded in death by her parents, Lummie and Sophronia Collins, and husband, Jason Cad Edge. She was a member of Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church, Kibbee.

Survivors include a son, Greg (Priscilla) Edge, Tarrytown; daughter, Gail (Charles) Claxton, Evans; grandchildren, Courtney Claxton, John Cooper Edge, Summer Edge, and Adam Edge; step - grandchildren, Alex and Ben Wilkes.

Services will be held in Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church at 11 o’clock Wednesday morning, April 22, with the Rev. Keith Tipton officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Pisgah Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at Sammons Funeral Home, Soperton from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday, April 21.

Louie Calhoun
Mr. Louie G. Calhoun, 84 of Tarrytown, died Tuesday, March 31, 2009.
Mr. Calhoun was a lifelong resident of Tarrytown and was preceded in death by his parents, Arnold E. and Agnes M. Calhoun; and a sister, Minedith Calhoun Warnock. He was a 1949 graduate of the University of Georgia and began his teaching career in the early fifties in Montgomery County with the Veterans Farm Training Program. In 1954, he began employment with the Bulloch County School System where he taught for two years before returning to Montgomery County. He was Teacher of the Year at Montgomery County High School and was both the State AIC and Union Camp Forestry Program winners. He also held Honorary State, Honorary American and Honorary Chapter Degrees with many local FFA Chapters. In 2001, he received the Conservationist of the Year Honor from the Ohoopee River and Soil District and was also inducted into the Georgia Agriculture Hall of Fame.

Mr. Calhoun served in the United States Merchant Marines during World War II and was a member of Tarrytown Baptist Church.

Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Betty Bass Calhoun; three sons and two daughters - in - law, Larry and Debbie Calhoun, Gilbert and Willene Calhoun, and Arnie Calhoun, all of Tarrytown; a daughter, Dixie Calhoun, of Tarrytown; a brother, Roy Calhoun, of East Dublin; 8 grandchildren; 15 great - grandchildren; and a great - great - grandchild.

Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. Friday, April 3 in the Tarrytown Baptist Church with the Reverend Chuck Morgan officiating. Burial will be in Tarrytown Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at Sammons Funeral Home from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday.

Mary Ware Ricks Crosby
Mrs. Mary Ware Ricks Crosby of Savannah died Saturday, March 28.
Mrs. Crosby was born in Soperton, Georgia, and was preceded in death by her parents, McBride Ware, Sr., and Cassie Mae McCrimmon Ware, husbands, James Stanley Ricks and Levy Crosby, and brother, M.B. Ware, Jr. She was of the United Methodist faith.

Survivors include two daughters and a son - in - law, Diane Ricks Smith and Thomas, Heath Texas, Linda Ricks Oldfield, Savannah; two brothers, Tommy Ware and Will Ware, Soperton; three grandchildren, Diana (Jim) White, Brandon Oldfield, and Chandler Oldfield; two great - grandchildren, Maddie White and Maci White.

Graveside services will be held in Westview Cemetery, Soperton, at 11 a.m. Monday, March 30, with the Rev. John Drake officiating. Sammons Funeral Home, Soperton, is in charge of arrangements.

In lieu of flowers the family request donations to Hospice of Savannah, P.O. Box 13190, Savannah, GA 31416.

The family will receive friends at the cemetery thirty minutes before the service.

Mellany Miller Monroe
Mrs. Mellany Miller Monroe, 58 of Springfield, died Sunday, March 29, 2009.
Mrs. Monroe was born in Laurens County and was preceded in death by her parents, Harold Miller and Janith Johnson Miller Kight. She was a homemaker and a member of Rincon Ward of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.

Survivors include her husband, James Monroe; two sons, Matthew Monroe, of Louisville, Kentucky, and Eddie Monroe, of Murfreesboro, Tennessee; a daughter, Kim Monroe, of Louisville, Kentucky; two step - sons, James Monroe, II and Jerry Casa, both of Savannah; three step - daughters, Audrey, of Ellabelle, Cindy, of Tennessee, and Gaylla, of Jacksonville, Florida; 3 sisters, Donna Miller, of Rincon, Elaine Miller, of Dublin, and Becky Toler, of Bloomingdale; 3 brothers, Steve Miller, of Rincon, Carl Miller, of Ellabelle, and Tommy Miller, of Murfreesboro, Tennessee; and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday in the Chapel of Sammons Funeral Home, Soperton. Burial will be in Carter’s Chapel Cemetery, Laurens County.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Waldo E. Beasley
Waldo E. Beasley, 82, of Swainsboro died Wednesday, April 15.
Mr. Beasley was born in Treutlen County was preceded in death by his parents, John Thomas and Frankie Etter Phillips Beasley; wife, Emily Elmira Rowland Beasley; 3 sons, Keith Dewayne Beasley, Glyn Te Darrell Beasley and Paul Anthony Beasley; and a daughter, Angela Faye Shumate. He was a member of Pentecostal Light House, Swainsboro, and served in the US Marines during W.W. II.

Survivors include a daughter, Sandra Guest, Fernandina Beach, FL; four sisters, Zelma Scott, Soperton, Velma Sharpe, Lake Wales, FL, Johnnie Mae Duncan, Fernandina Beach, FL, Maxi Moody, Blackshear; brother, Rev. Eugene E. Beasley, Soperton; five grandchildren and ten great - grandchildren.

Services will be held in Faith Tabernacle Pentecostal Holiness Church, Treutlen County at 11 a.m. Saturday, April 18. Burial will be in the church cemetery with military honors.

A visitation will be held at Sammons Funeral Home Friday from 6 to 8 p.m.
