Dana Darden

Dana Darden, 26, of Vidalia, died Saturday, July 4.
Mr. Darden was employed with Asplundt Tree Service.
Survivors include a son, Trendon Ray Darden; mother and step - father, Teri and Ronnie Darden; father, Danny Ray Darden; step - grandfather, Joe Poole, all of Vidalia; grandfather, Frank Toler, Lyons; several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Services will be held in Blockers Chapel new Congregational Methodist Church at 11 a.m. Monday, July 6, with the Rev. Albert White officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery with Sammons Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m.

Jonathan Toler

Mr. Jonathan Toler, 22 of Soperton, died Monday, June 22, 2009.
Mr. Toler was a lifelong resident of Treutlen County. He was preceded in death by his mother, Glenda Palmer Toler and was of the Holiness Faith.
Survivors include his father, Jerry Lee Toler, of Soperton; a sister, Christy Meeks, of Soperton; grandmothers, Drucilla Anderson, of Quitman, GA, and Lillian McGahee, of Adrian; and 3 nieces.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, June 25 in the Chapel of Sammons Funeral Home with the Rev. June Scott officiating. Burial will be in Harmony Cemetery, Soperton.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.

Alice Eleanor Williams

Miss Alice Eleanor Williams, age 88, of Soperton died at her home Thursday, November 18, 2010.
Miss Williams was preceded in death by her parents, Walter E. and Sadie McCrimmon Williams Tharpe, brother, Carlton Williams, and nephew, Jonathan Williams. She was retired from the Georgia Power Company and was a member of Soperton United Methodist Church.
Survivors include several cousins.
Graveside services will be held in Westview Cemetery, Soperton at 3 p.m. Sunday, November 21, with the Rev. Jason Corbett officiating.
There will be no visitation.

Janice Kay Lawrence

Mrs. Janice Kay Lawrence, 50 of Soperton, died Monday, November 22, 2010.
Mrs. Lawrence was a lifelong resident of Treutlen County and was preceded in death by her parents, Gilbert Miller, Jr. and Mildred Lumley Miller. She attended Red Bluff Baptist Church, Treutlen County.
Survivors include her husband, Greg Lawrence; a son and daughter - in - law, Chris and April Campbell, of Soperton; a daughter and son - in - law, Jennifer and Steven Thornton, of Glenwood; a sister, Vickie Warren, of Soperton; and 6 grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, November 24 in the Chapel of Sammons Funeral Home. Burial will be in Westview Cemetery, Soperton.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Alfred Walter Norfleet, Jr.

Alfred Walter Norfleet, Jr., age 59 of Soperton died at his home Monday, November 15, 2010.
Mr. Norfleet was preceded in death by his father, Alfred Walter Norfleet, Sr., wife, Georgene Norfleet, and a sister, Frances Hall. He was a retired painter.
Survivors include two sons, Shannon (Lee) Norfleet, Macon, Shawn (April) Norfleet, Cochran; mother, Lessie Mae Edge Norfleet Johnson, Soperton; sisters, Dorine Hutcheson and Ollie Norfleet, of Soperton, Virginia Denmark, Johnson’s Corner; two brothers, Kenneth Norfleet and Benneth Norfleet, both of Soperton; and four grandchildren.
Memorial services will be held in the Chapel of Sammons Funeral Home, Soperton at 11 a.m. Wednesday, November 17. There will be no visitation.

Gregory Eugene Hutcheson

Mr. Gregory Eugene Hutcheson, 43 of Williston, Florida died Tuesday, October 05, 2010. Mr. Hutcheson was preceded in death by his parents, Ronald Eugene and Frances Sheffield Hutcheson. He attended Sterling Church of God, Brunswick, Georgia.
Survivors include his grandmother, Kathryn Hutcheson, of Waynesville, Georgia; three aunts, Wanda Bare, of Waynesville, Ann Samples, of Brunswick, and Sandra Ward, of McMinnville, Tennessee; and several cousins.
Graveside funeral services will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday, October 7 in Hooks Cemetery, Treutlen County.

William John McGowan, 69

Mr. William John McGowan, age 69, passed away peacefully Thursday, January 14, 2010 due to complications of Alzheimer’s disease. He was surrounded by his loving family and was under the attentive care at Ogeechee Area Hospice in Statesboro. The Candler County native resided in Metter his entire life. William was a 1958 graduate of Metter High School and retired from the Georgia Department of Corrections. He was a member of the Cedar Street Baptist Church and the Lighthouse Sunday School Class. He was an avid gardener. The joy of his life was spending time with his devoted family. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and brother. He was predeceased by his parents, Omer and Ollie McGowan and a sister, Harriett Kight.
Surviving are his loving wife, Dale McGowan; one son and daughter - in - law, Keith and Jodi McGowan of Statesboro; two daughters and sons - in law, Tamie Rigdon and Donny Wells of Metter and Pam and Lance Holloway of Metter; a step - son Carey Padgett of Ocala, FL; grandchildren, Matt and Rachel Rigdon, Kaci, Houston and Hannah Holloway, Brogan and Aidan McGowan, and Dylan and Mikaela Padgett; four sisters, Audrey Kight, Brenda Collins, Geneva Douglas all of Metter and Ann Jacobs of Statesboro; two brothers Remer McGowan of Metter and Charles McGowan of Evans; many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Funeral services were held 11:00, Saturday at the Cedar Street Baptist Church with Pastor Mike Holt and Bill Collins officiating. Dr. Larry Guido officiated at graveside, and burial followed in the Rosemary Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Matthew Rigdon, Houston Holloway, Brogan McGowan, Ricky Kight, Paul McGowan, Carlos Cason, and Jason Douglas.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to Ogeechee Area Hospice, P.O. Box 531, Statesboro, Georgia 30459.
Kennedy Funeral Homes Hooks Chapel ~ Metter, was in charge of the arrangements.

Jettie Dent Purcell, 103

Jettie Dent Purcell, 103, passed away Friday, January 15, 2010, at Glenvue Nursing Home. The Wayne County native had lived in Glennville most of her life. She was a homemaker, a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She was the oldest member of Watermelon Creek Baptist Church, where she served as a pianist for many years. She was preceded in death by her husband, Layton E. Purcell and a son, Avery Purcell.
She is survived by son and daughter in law, Darwin and Joyce Purcell of Glennville; daughter - in - law, Faye Tripp of Glennville; sister, Juanita Purcell of Perry; granddaughter, Tammy Purcell Lynn of Glennville and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Sunday, January 17, 2010, at the Chapel of Brannen - Kennedy Funeral Home with Reverend Oscar Rowe Jr. officiating. Burial followed in Glennville City Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Dan Rogers, Brad Rogers, Barry Cammack and Hamp Gross.
Brannen - Kennedy Funeral Home of Glennville was in charge of the arrangements.

Joyce Waters Sapp, (Nanny) 77

Joyce Waters Sapp, (Nanny) 77, passed away Tuesday, January 12, 2010, at St. Joseph’s Hospital.
She was a member of Eastside Baptist Church, the Ruth Sunday school class and Young at Heart Ministries. She worked at the Evans County Elementary School as a Food Service Worker for the past 20 years. She was always busy with her church and most of all she enjoyed helping other people.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ben Sapp and a granddaughter, Kelsey Sapp.
She is survived by a son and daughter - in - law, Eric and Darlene Sapp of Claxton; three daughters and two sons - in - law, Roxann and Carl) Phillips of Charleston, SC, Jocelyn and Eddie Pegram of Charleston, SC, and Vanessa Horton of Claxton, GA; two sisters, Mary Collins of Claxton and Jackie Lynn of Cobbtown; eight grandchildren, six great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Friday, January 15, 2010, at Eastside Baptist Church, with Reverend Gatus Cheatham officiating. Burial followed in Brewton cemetery in Hagan.
Pallbearers were Tyler Horton, Kylend Butler, Garrith Pegram, Chad Cofield, Justin Frisbee and Caleb Frisbee. Honorary pallbearers were Ruth Sunday School Class members.
Mellie NeSmith Funeral Home of Claxton was in charge of the arrangements.

John Larry Vincent, 67

John Larry Vincent, 67, of Cobbtown died Thursday January 7, 2010, at Ogeechee Area Hospice after an extended illness. Larry was a devoted husband, loving father, an avid fisherman and a true friend too many.
Survivors include his wife, Pam Vincent; sons, John Larry Jr., George Harold and Ernie Vincent; daughters; Brenda Foster, Crystal and Christy Vincent; two brothers, one sister and 12 grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
Memorial service was held Saturday at Rogers Baptist Church. Burial followed at a later date.
Kennedy - Morgan - Brannen Funeral Home, Cobbtown –Metter, was in charge of the arrangements.

Janet Causey Baker, 54

Janet Causey Baker, 54, died Sunday, January 10, 2010, at her residence in Glennville. The Ware County native had lived in this area all of her life. She was employed as an LPN at Glenvue Nursing Home and was of the Primitive Baptist Faith. She loved the outdoors and especially enjoyed fishing.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Leon Baker.
She is survived by her children, Leigh and Bo Hutcheson, Jason Baker and Julie and Jeffrey Durrence, all of Glennville; fiancé, Carter Thompson; brother, Bill Causey (Jo) of Savannah; brother - in - law, Larry Baker; sister - in - law and brother - in - law, Libby and Carlos Reeves; grandchildren, Ariel and Scott Flury, Logan Durrence and Landon Baker; several nieces, nephews, aunts and uncles.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, January 13, 2010, at Bay Branch Primitive Baptist Church, with Reverend Steve Kimbrell and Elder W.H. Durrence officiating. Pallbearers were Ricky Anderson, John North, Randy Wilson, Tim Hall, Larry Baker and Ray Corbitt.
Remembrances may be made to Tattnall County C.A.R.E.S., P.O. Box 2356, Reidsville, GA 30453.
Brannen - Kennedy Funeral Home, Glennville Chapel, was in charge of the arrangements.
