Lorena Jarriel Callaway, 85

Mrs. Lorena Jarriel Callaway, age 85, passed away Tuesday, January 12, 2010, in Statesboro. The Tattnall County native had lived in Collins all of her life. She was a homemaker that loved her flowers, fishing and talking. She was a member of Anderson Primitive Baptist Church and is preceded in death by her son - in - law, Calvin Rushing.
She is survived by: her husband of 70 yrs., Ben H Calloway of Collins; sons and daughters - in - law, Larry and Peggy Calloway, and Johnny and Dianne Callaway all of Collins; daughters and sons - in - law, Ann Rushing of Claxton; Judy and Larry Lanier of Statesboro, and Linda and Bobby Thompson of Bloomingdale. Nine grandchildren, twenty - four great grandchildren, numerous nieces and nephews also survive.
Visitation will begin at 6:00 pm Friday from the funeral home.
Funeral Services will be conducted at 2:00 pm Saturday, January 16 from the Reidsville Chapel of Bradley B. Anderson Funeral Home. Interment will follow in the Anderson Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery.

Wayne Gable, 49

Mr. Wayne Gable, age 49, passed away Tuesday, January 12, 2010, at his residence under the care of Southern Care Hospice. The Cherokee County native had lived in Reidsville the past 38 yrs. He was employed with Duane Harrelson Dry Wall and loved to tinker with lawn mowers and electronics.
He is survived by: his wife, Mary Sikes Gable of Reidsville; daughters, Brandy Gable and Brittany Marie Gable both of Jacksonville, FL; son, Justin Gillam of Lake City, FL; sister, Hilda Grace Smith of Canton, GA; grandson, Jordan Gable of Jacksonville. Numerous nieces and nephews also survive.
Visitation will begin at 10:00 am Thursday, January 14 from the funeral home. Funeral Services will be conducted 2:00 pm Thursday from the Reidsville Chapel of Bradley B. Anderson Funeral Home with Brother Alan Jones officiating. Interment will follow in the Reidsville City Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Joe Eason, Joe Lonnie Eason, Jr., Johnny Lindsey, Johnny Ulmer, Alan “Tad Pole” Eason and Ronald Arnold.
Memorials may be given to the Wayne Gable Memorial Fund care of Bradley B. Anderson Funeral Home, PO Box 488, Reidsville, GA 30453.

Arthur Miller Jr., 83

Arthur Miller Jr., age 83, died January 6, 2010, due to injuries sustained in a car accident. He was an honored World War II Veteran. A native of Evansville, IN, he moved to Mims, FL, where he worked as a Government Motor Pool Inspector with NASA at the Kennedy Space Center in Cape Canaveral, FL, for many years. In his later years, he settled in Glennville, and worked for Ft. Stewart and Hunter Army Air Field before his retirement. Mr. Miller was an individual known for his integrity and his will to do the right thing; always thinking and doing for others. He had a great admiration for his neighbors in the Midway Community where he lived. Family and friends will sadly miss him.
He was preceded in death by his father, Arthur E. Miller Sr.; mother, Irene C. Miller of Evansville, IN; and a grandson, Randy Miller II of Glennville.
He is survived by his only wife of 27 years, Sharon S. Miller of Glennville; son and daughter - in - law, Randy D. and Shari O. Miller of Louisville, KY; daughter and son - in - law, Dana M. and J. Keith Stanfield of Glennville, GA; grandchildren, Brandon K. Stanfield of Kalispell, MT, and Justin K. Stanfield of Glennville, GA; step - grandchildren, Christopher Taber, Teresa and Dave Peercy and Peter Hooker, all of Louisville, KY; brother, Jack and Rita Miller of Evansville, IN; sister, Kathleen Sapp of Jacksonville, FL; nephew and niece in law, Glenn and Frances Miller of Evansville, IN; niece and nephew - in - law, Debbie and Rick Blackburn of Mt. Vernon, IN; nephews, Jeffery Sapp of Glennville, GA, Joseph Sapp of Jacksonville, FL and Johnny Davis of Florida.
Graveside funeral services were held Monday, January 11, 2010, at Georgia Veterans Memorial cemetery with Military Honors, with Elder Tom Sollosi and Pastor Dwight Brooks officiating.
Remembrances may be made to Ella Grove Baptist Church in memory of Arthur Miller Jr., Trust Fund.

Vincent “Jim” A. Montelpasse Sr., 90

Vincent “Jim” A. Montelpasse Sr., 90, died Saturday, January 9, 2010, at his home under the care of Ogeechee Area Hospice. The Chicago native moved to Collins, GA, in 1990 and was a veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving in World War II. Vincent retired from the U.S. Postal Service as a letter carrier and was a member of the Holy Family Catholic Church in Metter. He was a family man who enjoyed his retirement greatly.
Survivors are his wife, Susan Sviatko Montelpasse of Collins; daughters, Vivian M. ( Joseph) Jezierski of Crestwood, IL and Valerie A. (Gordon “Sam”) Key of Ft. Leonard Wood, MO; four sons, Vincent A. (Clara) Montelpasse Jr., of Tinley Park, IL, Victor A. (Deborah) Montelpasse of Kankakee, IL, Verne A. (Nancy) Montelpasse of Orland Hills, IL, and Van A. Montelpasse of Collins; 15 grandchildren, four great - grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Mass will be held Saturday, January 23, 2010, at 11:00 a.m. at the Holy Family Catholic Church in Metter with Father John Brown officiating. A cremain burial will take place at th Abraham Lincoln National cemetery in Elwood, IL. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be sent to the Ogeechee Area Hospice, POB 531, Statesboro, GA 30459.

Jane Johnson O’Berry, 70

Jane Johnson O’Berry, age 70, passed away Saturday, January 9, 2010, at Wayne Memorial Hospital after an extended illness. She was employed with Custom Dry Cleaners, Waters Bi - Rite and Piggly Wiggly in Glennville for many years. She loved fishing and gardening and was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She was a member of Pigot Branch Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents, Billy and Deloris Johnson; her husband, Eugene C. O’Berry and a sister, Hazel Folsom.
She is survived by sons and daughters - in - law, Billy and Jeannie O’Berry of Ludowici, Mike and Toni O’Berry of Townsend and Ken and Trishia Moon of Jesup; daughters and sons - in - law, Sherry and Rusty Bailey, Eilene and Randy Moody, Sharmon and Bubba Howard, all of Ludowici, and Diane and Randy Groover of Hinesville; sister, Charlotte Johnson Wells of Hinesville; 17 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, January 12, 2010, at Pigot Branch Baptist Church, with Reverend Tommy Ray officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
Pallbearers were Ken Moon, Clayton Wells, Brent Folsom, Kenny Moon, Royce Folsom, Archie Poppell, Steven O’Berry and Douglas Walter. Honorary pallbearers were Cecil Nobles, Gus Nobles, Gerald Blocker, Dale Moody, Terry Roland and Dr. Richard Pumpelly.

Hope Ann Lashmit Parrish, 79

Hope Ann Lashmit Parrish, age 79, died Sunday, January 10, 2010, in the Community Hospice House in Vidalia. She was a native of Petoskey, MI, and moved from Miami, FL, to Glennville in 1967. She worked at the Dairy Queen in Glennville for many years, and later worked at, and retired from the Rotary Corporation in Glennville after many years. She moved to Vidalia in 1990, and was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church in Glennville. She was preceded in death by her husband, Lem Parrish, a son, Larry Parrish, her parents, Fred and Viola Fine Lashmit, and two sisters, Betty Foster and Carrie Cooke.
Mrs. Parrish is survived by one daughter, Kay P. Thompson and William Braddy of Vidalia, two sons, Mitchell Howell Parrish and Sandra of New Lisbon, WI, and Lloyd Parrish and Harriett of Bowden, grandchildren, Melissa Cranford Vinson and Tony of Lyons; Angie Parrish Jones and Darren of Collins; Mindy Parrish Hilliard of Collins; and Michael Cranford of Reidsville, great - grandchildren, Caitlin Vinson, Austin Cranford, Ryley Jones, Cole Jones, C.J. Dubberly and Jailynn Dubberly, sister, Mary Morris and Robert of Harbor Springs, MI, and a daughter - in - law Debbie Parrish of Glennville and several nieces and nephews.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Bethany Nursing Center, 1305 East North St., Vidalia, GA 30474 or to Community Hospice, P. O. Box 2277, Vidalia, GA 30475.

Miriam Virginia Whitaker Phillips, 88

Miriam Virginia Whitaker Phillips, 88, died Friday, January 8, 2010, at Rosewood Rehab and Health Care in Orlando, FL. The Columbia County native was a retired cosmetologist and lived in the Brunswick area for many years before relocating to Orlando, Florida. She was preceded in death by her husband, Preston Phillips.
She is survived by her daughters, Vera Waterman of Orlando, FL, and Scarlett Hall of Dearing, GA, and one son, Jeffery Kennedy of Jacksonville, FL.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, January 13, 2010, from the Chapel of Brannen - Kennedy Funeral Home. Burial followed in Glennville City Cemetery.

Henry A. Strickland, 90

Henry A. Strickland, 90, passed away Sunday, January 3, 2010, at Evans Memorial Hospital. The Wayne County native had lived in Glennville and Savannah for many years. He owned and operated a TV repair service in Glennville and Savannah. He was preceded in death by his wife, Evelyn Crews Strickland.
He is survived by his children, Wade Strickland, Patricia Durrence, Kymberly Strickland and Jeffery Strickland, all of Atlanta, and several grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Graveside funeral services were held Tuesday, January 5, 2010, at Glennville City cemetery with Reverend Jimmy Bargeron officiating.

Rabon Charles Wilson, 72

Rabon Charles Wilson, 72, died Monday, January 11, 2010, at Ogeechee Area Hospice. The Bulloch County native lived in Bloomingdale many years before retiring to the Hillview Community. He was a veteran of the U.S. Marines and U.S. Navy. Rabon was a welder for Great Dane Trailers and a longshoreman for Great Southern Containers. He was a member of Rogers Baptist Church and loved fishing.
He is survived by his wife of 52 1/2 years, Vivian Cowart Wilson; five children and his grandchildren who thought he walked on water, Jeff (Penny) Wilson of Meldrim, Danny Wilson of Claxton, Donna (Michael) Duggar of Manassas, Angel (Roy) McClendon of Guyton and Leesa (Jimmy) Cowart of Rincon; a brother, D.C. Wilson of Macon; a sister, Aloma Hudson of Richmond, VA; eight grandchildren and four great - grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m., Thursday, at Kennedy Funeral Homes, Hooks Chapel, in Metter with Rev. Gerald Dorr officiating. Burial will be in the Rogers Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers will be his children and grandchildren.
