Ovid H. Wade, 82

Ovid H. Wade, 82, passed away Sunday, January 3, 2010, at his residence after a long illness with cancer. He was born May 3, 1927, in Hawkinsville, GA, to Lofton and Polly Moore Wade. He retired with 20 years of service from the Air Force as a Master Sergeant, also serving in the Merchant Marines and Navy. After retiring from the military he was a successful general contractor in Maryland and property manager in Virginia and Georgia. Ovid had a love for travel and adventure that he shared with his wife and family, camping from Georgia to Alaska. He was a deeply passionate man, devoted to his wife and family. He showed enormous strength and courage in his final days.
He is survived by his wife of 59 years, Betty J. Wade of Glennville; children, Ovid Wade Jr., of Stedman, NC, Deborah Reeves of Cashiers, NC, Olan Wade of Gilbert, AZ, David Wade of Raleigh, NC and Deena Wade of Stone Ridge, NY; sister, Opal Nelson of Hawkinsville, GA; grandchildren, Michelle Beitzel, Carrie Miller, Jamie Wade and Savannah Wade and four great - grandchildren.
Graveside funeral services will be held Thursday, January 7, 2010, at 1 p.m., at Georgia Veterans Memorial cemetery with full Military Honors.
Brannen - Kennedy Funeral Home, Glennville Chapel, is in charge of the arrangements.

Franklin Preston Walls, 44

Franklin Preston Walls, age 44, died Tuesday, December 29, 2009. He was born in Bulloch County and lived several years in Ellabell before moving to Cobbtown. Preston was a logger and attended The Rock Worship Center and The Grace and Truth Church. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, riding four - wheelers, motorcycles, and loved spending time with his family. He was predeceased by his father, Lonnie Franklin Walls.

Survivors include his wife of 26 years, Patty Walls; children, Rachel (T.J.) Miles, Robert (Michelle) Branson, Christina (Josh) Branson; mother, Brenda Davis; stepmother, Mary Walls; siblings, Lonnie F. Walls Jr., Roy A. Walls, David Walls, Melissa Walls, April Bragg, Jennifer McCullough, Brenda Rhodes, Tina Aldrich, Angel Mixon, Randi Jean Burnsed; grandchildren, Kristian Miles, Kaleb Colbert, and Anthony Branson.
Funeral services were held Saturday, January 2, 2010, at the Rock Worship Center, with burial following in the Lake Cemetery.
Kennedy - Morgan - Brannen Funeral Home, Metter - Cobbtown, was in charge of the arrangements.

Annie Ruth Blair, 74

Ms. Annie Ruth Blair, age 74 passed away Monday February 22, 2010, at her residence. The Bryan County native had lived in Claxton most of her life. She was a homemaker and was known for taking care of many children. She was preceded in death by her son, Randall Blair.
She is survived by her sons and daughters - in - law, Oren and Patricia Blair of Ellabell, Olan and Diane Blair of Bulloch County; daughter, Lisa Gallien of Louisiana; special friends, Charles and Mary Gibson of Claxton, and five grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at the Reidsville Chapel, with the Rev. Tony Hewitt officiating. Interment followed in the Black Creek Cemetery.
Bradley B. Anderson Funeral Home, Reidsville Chapel, served the Blair family.

Harry Malcolm Hall
Mr. Harry Malcolm Hall, 76, of Soperton died Friday morning, October 15, 2010. Mr. Hall was a lifelong resident of Treutlen County and was preceded in death by his parents, Haze Herschel Hall and Pauline Thigpen Hall Lively. He was a member and past master of Harmony Masonic Lodge #405, a member of Al Sihah Shrine Temple, Macon, and member of Red Bluff Baptist Church, Treutlen County. He was retired.

Survivors include his wife, LaVerne Barber Hall; Son, Danny (Charlie) Hall, Soperton; brother, Kenneth Hall, Warner Robins; two grandchildren, Daniel Hall and Maria Hall. Services will be held in the Chapel of Sammons Funeral Home at 2 p.m. Sunday, October 17. Burial will be in Red Bluff cemetery with Masonic Rites.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Saturday from 6 to 8 p.m.

Johnnie McGowan
Mrs. Johnnie L. McGowan, 84 of Dublin, died Friday, October 22, 2010.

Mrs. McGowan lived most of her life in Treutlen County, and was preceded in death by her parents, Charlie and Mamie Coleman Lively; her husband Nathan McGowan; her son Johnny Mac McGowan; a granddaughter, Brandi L. Mimbs; three brothers, Bud Lively, Junior Lively, and Malcolm Hall; 3 sisters, Geneva Page, Ruth Holton, and Dorothy Thigpen. She was retired from the Soperton Manufacturing Company and was a member of Red Bluff Baptist Church, Treutlen County.

Survivors include her daughter and son - in - law, Jan and Randy Mimbs, of Dublin; five grandchildren, Shawn (Jayme) McGowan, Lori (Shawn) McGowan - Prophitt, Anna McGowan, Lauren Mimbs, and Jordan Mimbs; two great - grandchildren, Logan McGowan and Katlyn Prophitt.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, October 24 in Red Bluff Baptist Church with the Reverend Randy Mimbs officiating. Burial will follow in the Church Cemetery, with Sammons Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.

The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. Sunday, at Red Bluff Baptist Church.

James Emmet Horne
James Emmet Horne, 86, of Soperton died Tuesday, November 2, 2010.

Mr. Horne was a lifelong resident of Treutlen County and was preceded in death by his parents, Hawkins Horne and Vera Dickens Horne Brooks, and his wife, Vertie Lee Beck Horne; and his brother, Thomas Edwin Horne. He was reared by his grandmother, Nancy C. Miller Horne. A member of the Woodmen of the World and the American Legion, he was a retired farmer and supervisor at Ailey Manufacturing Company, and was a member of Soperton United Methodist Church. During W.W. II he served in the US Army.

Survivors include his children, Danny (Margaret) Horne, Terry Horne, and Becky DeLosh, all of Soperton, Kathy Ussery, Swainsboro, Tammy Horne, Macon; two sisters, Joann Watson, Huntsville, AL, Paula Huffman, Texas; ten grandchildren; seven great - grandchildren; and sisters - in - law, Helen Beck Coleman and Myrtle Butler Horne.

Services will be held in the Chapel of Sammons Funeral Home at 11 a.m. Friday, November 5. Burial will be in Westview Cemetery, Soperton with military honors.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m.

Joe Allen Jones
Mr. Joe Allen Jones, age 81 of Milledgeville died Saturday, November 20, 2010.

Mr. Jones was a native of Peach County and had lived in Soperton for forty years before moving to Milledgeville in 2009. He was preceded in death by his parents, Roland Stapler Jones, Sr. and Mary Lou Flint Jones, his wife of 47 years, Carolyn Gillis Jones, 2 brothers, Roland S. Jones, Jr., Julian Jones, Sr., and sister, Ruth Jones Logue. He was a member of Harmony Masonic Lodge #405, and served in the Army during W.W. II. He was a member of the First Baptist Church, Soperton and was retired.

Survivors include his daughter and son - in - law, Rebecca J. and Lindsay McCoy; grandchildren, Brittany and Ryan McCoy, Milledgeville; sisters, Mary Jones Outler, Ft. Valley, and Sarah Jones Mitchell (Walter), Juliette.

Services will be held in the Chapel of Sammons Funeral Home, Soperton at 11 a.m. Monday, November 22, with the Reverends George Grimes and William Neely officiating. Burial will be in Westview Cemetery, Soperton, with Masonic rites.

A visitation will be held at the funeral home Monday from 10 to 11 a.m.

William Brannen, 70

William Brannen, 70, passed away Friday, February 19, 2010, at East Georgia Regional Medical Center in Statesboro. He was born in Tattnall County, January 9, 1940, to Arnie and Letha Brannen. He was a U.S. Army Veteran; employed with Kaiser Chemical for many years and a self - employed auto mechanic. He was member of Antioch Baptist Church where he served as deacon and was very active in the Tattnall – Evans Association. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and brother. He is preceded in death by his parents, Arnie and Letha Brannon.
He is survived by his wife, Sylvia Brannen of Glennville; children, Billy Brannen (Lynn) of Statesboro, Michele Wallace of Glennville and Libby Henderson (Jim) of Norfolk, VA; four sisters, Eleise Godwin of Jacksonville, FL, Linda Smiley and Barbara Barrow both of Lyons, and Joy Ellis of Glennville; two brothers, Edward Brannen of Glennville and James Brannen of Claxton; aunt, Alijene Lambdin of Glennville; grandchildren, Jennifer and Josh Laramay, Jenny Larisey, Jarrell and Ciearra Larisey, Peter and Robert Wallace; great - grandchildren, Johnny Larisey and Little Jarrell Larisey; and several nieces and nephew.
Funeral Services will be held Tuesday, February 23, 2010, at Antioch Baptist Church and burial followed in the church cemetery.
Pallbearers were Peter Wallace, Robert Wallace, Jeremy Hallowell, Jerrell Larisey, Jamie Smiley, and Nathan Cramer. Honorary pallbearers were Deacons of Antioch Baptist Church

Sallie Flowers Busby, 85

Sallie Flowers Busby, 85, died Sunday, February 21, 2010, at Ogeechee Area Hospice in Statesboro. The Liberty County native had lived in this area most of her life. She was a homemaker and of the Baptist faith.
She is survived by her sons, Olan Strickland and Ronnie Strickland, both of Glennville; sisters, Ruth McIntosh of Savannah and Brunelle English of Bowling Green, KY; 11 grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, two great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will begin at 6 p.m. Wednesday, February 24, at Brannen - Kennedy Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Thursday, February 25, from the chapel of Brannen - Kennedy Funeral Home, with Reverend Jerry Knight officiating. Burial will follow in Stanfield Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Timmy Strickland, Wayne Strickland, Gene Swope, Brad Swope, Timothy Strickland and John Swope.
Remembrances may be made to The Sally Busby Burial Fund, P.O. Box 609, Glennville, GA 30427.

Irma Jean Sapp Greene, 73

Irma Jean Sapp Greene, 73, of Brunswick, passed away Wednesday, February 17, 2010, at her residence. A native of Candler County, she was born on December 6, 1936, to the late Hoy and Ruby Lee Jarriel Sapp. Mrs. Greene was a resident of McIntosh County from 1962 to 1971, and had resided in Brunswick since 1971. She was employed by Southern Bell for 35 years as a telephone operator. After retirement, she was employed by the Glenn County Board of Education as a cafeteria baker. She was a member of the Telephone Pioneers and the Brunswick Primitive Baptist Church, where she taught children’s Sunday school.
She is survived by her husband of 38 years, William B. “Bo” Greene of Brunswick; son, William Burton Greene Jr. of Brunswick; daughter, Felicia (Mikey) Johnson of Brunswick; grandson, Ryan Johnson and granddaughter, Hannah Johnson of Brunswick; three sisters, Colleen S. Finch of Moncks Corner, SC, Linda Faye S. (James) Assad of Myrtle Beach, SC and Janice Sapp of Collins; three brothers, Jerry (Janice) Sapp of Darien, Hugh (Lori) Rogers of O’Brien, FL, and Joey (Diane) Singleton of Collins; two sisters - in - law, Judy Morris of Brunswick and Blanche Grier of Black Creek and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Saturday, February 20, 2010, at Brunswick Primitive Baptist church with the Reverend Craig DeLoach officiating. Interment followed at St. Andrew cemetery in Darien.
The family requests memorial contributions to Brunswick Primitive Baptist Church, 608 Second Street, Brunswick, GA 31520 or Hospice of Golden Isles, 1692 Glynco Parkway, Brunswick, GA 31525.

Geraldine Smith Jarriel, 92

Geraldine Smith Jarriel, 92, of the Hillview Community died Friday, February 19, 2010, at Ogeechee Area Hospice in Statesboro. She was the daughter of James Roscoe and Zilfa Cowart Smith and had lived in Tattnall County most of her life. She was a homemaker and worked at the clothing factory in Lyons. Mrs. Jarriel was the pianist for many years at Rogers Baptist Church where she was a member. She loved to cook and sew and was dedicated to her family and friends with helping others as her goal. She was preceded in death by her husband, Vernon Jarriel; a brother, James Smith and a son - in - law, Jean Van Goidtsnoven.
Survivors are daughters and a son - in - law, Teresa Van Goidtsnoven of Fernandina Beach, FL, Laverne and Al Beasley of Hillview; sister - in - law, Shirley Smith of Hillview; four grandchildren, Stephen (Alacia) Van Goidtsnoven of Middleburg, FL, Beth Abernethy of Fernandina, Keith (Carole) Beasley of Glennville, Tonya (Larry) Blocker of Claxton; and seven great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Monday, February 22, 2010, at Kennedy Funeral Homes, Cobbtown Chapel, with Rev. Gerald Dorr and Rev. Steve Kimbrell officiating. Burial followed in the Cedar Creek Cemetery. Pallbearers were Stephen Van Goidtsnoven, Keith Beasley, Larry Blocker, Jim Smith, Beau Smith and Jason Van Goidtsnoven. Remembrances may be made to Rogers Baptist Church, POB 154, Collins, GA 30421 or Ogeechee Area Hospice, POB 531, Statesboro, GA 30459.

Eva Lee Pittman, 84

Mrs. Eva Lee Pittman, age 84 of Lyons, died Thursday, February 18, 2010 in the Meadows Regional Medical Center in Vidalia after an extended illness. She was a native of Collins, lived in Miami, FL, most of her life, and moved from Okeechobee, FL, to Lyons in 1986. She worked at Westview Baptist Church Daycare in Miami for seven years and was a member of the Fairview Baptist Church in Lyons. She was a Sunday School Teacher for three to five year olds for 48 years and had perfect attendance for 48 years in Sunday school. She enjoyed spending time with grandchildren and great - grandchildren, and was preceded in death by her husband, Aaron Pittman, and her parents, Daniel and Kate Collins Lynn.
She is survived by one daughter and son - in - law, Sandy and Glenn Russell of Lyons; four grandchildren, Valerie (Chuck) Mullis, Justin (Ginger) Russell, and Jordan Russell all of Lyons, and Rebekah Russell of Douglasville; two great - grandchildren, Russell and Hannah Leigh Mullis of Lyons; two step - great - grandchildren Kennedy and Glendon Joiner of Lyons; three brothers, Gene, Wendell, and Lavanda Lynn of Collins; four sisters, Sue Nell Farmer of Panama City, Katherine Bass of Reidsville, Lois Gibner of Bluffton, SC, and Carolyn Martin of Sarasota, FL, ; several nieces and nephews, including a special nephew, Greg Lynn of Collins.
Funeral services were held Saturday, February 20, 2010, at 11:00 a.m. in the Fairview Baptist Church with Pastor Glenn Russell officiating. Interment followed in the Cedar Creek Primitive Baptist cemetery Church near Collins.
Pallbearers were Boyce Hill, Bob Kyle, Dock Hackle, Jack Trull, Bennie Jernigan, and Cary Batchelor.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Audio Visual Fund at Fairview Baptist Church, 662 North State St., Lyons, GA 30436.
Ronald V. Hall Funeral Home of Vidalia was in charge of arrangements.
