Ira Wayne Rogers, 64

Ira Wayne Rogers, 64, husband, father and friend passed away suddenly on Saturday, February 13, 2010. He was born November 4, 1945, in Lyons, Georgia to Ira and Lucille Rogers. He graduated from Glennville High School and then continued his education at Southern Tech with an associate’s degree in drafting. Later he served in the Vietnam War and was awarded a Purple Heart. In 1968 he married Faye Moncrief and they enjoyed 41 wonderful years of marriage.
Wayne was a member of Glennville First Baptist Church and enjoyed life to its fullest. He was an avid sportsman who loved hunting, fishing and golf. He also loved to draw and was an excellent carpenter who could build anything he set his mind to.
He was the Vice President of International Sales at Rotary Corporation. During his time at Rotary he achieved many accomplishments. Throughout his years of service he traveled extensively around the world working in many capacities including purchasing, advertising and international sales. He was a loving man with a compassionate soul. He put others first at all times. He will be greatly missed.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ira and Lucille Rogers.
He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Faye Moncrief Rogers of Glennville; children, Kellie Rogers and Brett Ziegler and Brian Rogers, all of Glennville and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, sisters - in - law, brothers - in - law and friends he considered family.
Funeral services were held Monday, February 22, 2010, at Glennville First Baptist Church. Burial followed in Glennville City cemetery with military honors.
Pallbearers were Mike Mulligan, Danny Phillips, Dan Rogers, Jeff Rogers, Ken Rogers and Michael Rogers. Honorary pallbearers were employees of Rotary Corporation.
Remembrances may be made to The American Heart Association, 5692 Zebulon Road, PMB #359, Macon, GA 31210 or St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 - 1942.

Emma Della Williams, 87

Emma Della Williams, 87, of Jacksonville passed away in Orange Park on Sunday January 31, 2010. She was born in Reidsville, and was a retired fashion model. Mrs. Williams was a Methodist and a member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Chapter 103 of Mount Dora. She moved to Jacksonville from Reidsville, but had been a longtime resident of the Mount Plymouth – Mount Dora area. Mrs. Williams is survived by her children, Glenn (Brenda) Williams and Donna (David) West both of Jacksonville, her grandchildren Scott Williams of Schenectady, NY, and Devon and Dawn Reater both of Jacksonville, and many nieces and nephews. Ceremonies were held in the Hamlin & Hilbish Chapel on Thursday, February 4 at 11 a.m. with Rev. William Boyer officiating, interment followed in Lakeside Memory Gardens, Eustis. Eastern Star Services were provided by the Mount Dora Chapter of the O.E.S. The family requests those desiring direct memorials to the Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758517, Topeka, KS 66675.

Paul Jackson Sr.

Mr. Paul Jackson Sr., a longtime resident of Mt. Vernon, NY, died February 11, 2010, at Sound Shore Medical Center in New Rochelle.
He was born to Lester and Nettie (Bostick) Jackson in Collins, GA, where he graduated from the public schools ands attended Savannah State University. Employed as a Wholesale Beverage Salesman, he was married to Clora (Mincey) Jackson, who survives him. A member of Shiloh Baptist Church of New Rochelle, Sunday School and Past President Men’s Ministry.
In addition to his wife Clora, he is survived by three daughters, Debra Jackson - Lane, Eleanor Jackson and Rosalyn Wallace; son, Paul H. Jackson Jr., 12 grandchildren, four great grandchildren; sister, Mattie Lee Everett; brothers, Randolph (Doetha), Lester, Charles and Gordon (Frances) Jackson. He was predeceased by brothers, George and Ira Jackson and sisters, Azilee Peeler and Vera Nobles - Clark.
Viewing will be Saturday, February 20, 2010, from 12 - 1 p.m., at Hagan’s Temple in Hagan with funeral following at 1 p.m. Burial will follow at Jackson Town cemetery in Collins, GA.

Vivian DeLoach Kicklighter, 100

Vivian DeLoach Kicklighter, 100, passed away Friday, February 12, 2010. She was born in Tattnall County, April 29, 1909, to Frank and Lala Tootle DeLoach. She was a life - long resident of Tattnall County and was employed with the Tattnall County School System for many years. She was a member of Mendes Baptist Church and was preceded in death by her husband, Fess Kicklighter and a young son, Lamont Kicklighter.
She is survived by her son and daughter - in - law, John Derrel and Georgeanna Kicklighter of Seabrook Island, SC; grandchildren, Elizabeth and Jimmy McMullan of Mt. Pleasant, SC, Jane and Peter Manos of Beaufort, SC, Joan and Gary Burger of Hoschton, GA and John Jr. and Julie Kicklighter of Mt. Pleasant, SC; nine great grandchildren, Frank and John Williams, Joni, Nicholas and John Manos, Emilie and Gary Burger Jr., Brad and Ben Kicklighter, and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Sunday, February 14, 2010, at Mendes Baptist Church with Reverend Carl Ledbetter officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
Pallbearers were John Kicklighter Jr., Gary Burger, Peter Manos, Jimmy McMullan, Frank Williams, John Williams, Gary Burger Jr., and Nicholas Manos. Honorary pallbearers were Emilie Burger, Joni Manos, John Manos, Brad Kicklighter and Ben Kicklighter.

Jasper Paul Martin, 72

Jasper Paul Martin, 72, passed away Friday, February 12, 2010, at The Doctors Hospital of Tattnall. The Tattnall County native had lived in Savannah for many years, prior to moving back to Collins in 1993 after retirement. He was retired from Union Camp Corporation in Savannah. He enjoyed fishing and golfing and was of the Methodist faith. He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Leona Martin and a brother, James David Martin.
He is survived by two sisters and a brother - in - law, Montez Deloach of Mendes and Virginia and Aaron Todd of Claxton; three brothers, Royce Martin of Faulkville, Ellis Martin of Cedar Crossing, GA and Pat Martin of Collins; sister - in - law, Mary Martin of Lyons, and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Monday, February 15, 2010, at the chapel of Brannen - Kennedy Funeral Home with Reverend Kenny Edwards and Reverend Reece Mincey officiating. Burial followed in Cedar Creek Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Stacey Martin, Shane Sikes, Greg Strickland, Hunter Davis, Kenneth Wilder, George Jarriel and David Jarriel.

Dora Smith Paul., 90

Dora Smith Paul., 90, passed away Friday, February 12, 2010, after an extended illness. She was born in Soperton, GA, May 27, 1919, to James and Lula Hester Smith. Mrs. Paul moved to Florida in 1957, returning to Glennville in 2005. She was a homemaker and a member of Northside Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Joe Elmo Paul.
She is survived by her daughter and son - in - law, Martha and Vernon Peck of Glennville; son and daughter –in - law, Rodney and Delores Paul of Glennville; sister, Nina Mae Driggers of Glennville; one granddaughter, Lisa Kicklighter; two great grandchildren, Joseph and Kendra Kicklighter and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, February 16, 2010, from the chapel of Brannen - Kennedy Funeral Home, with Reverend Oscar Rowe Jr., officiating. Burial followed in Glennville City Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Joseph Fulton, Brian Taylor, Charles Block, Raymond “Butch” Block, Chris Bartlett and Justin Huggins.

Jayden Taevon Woods, 3 months

Jayden Taevon Woods was born November 8, 2009, at Liberty Regional Medical Center in Hinesville, GA, to Shanique Shade Woods and Demetrius Lamon Robinson.
Jayden was called home to the Lord on Saturday, February 6, 2010, at 7:10 p.m., at Emory Children’s Healthcare Hospital in Atlanta, with his family by his side.
Jayden leaves behind his loving mother, Shanique Woods from Hinesville; his father, Demetrius Robinson from Reidsville; his maternal grandparents, Fred and Rosa Boggs from Hinesville; his paternal grandparents, Joyce Wright from Reidsville and Terry Robinson from Reidsville; two half - brothers, Davion Robinson from Riverdale, GA, and Demetrion Robinson from Hinesville, and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
Dorchester Funeral Home of Midway was in charge of the arrangements.

Catherine Thompson Arrendale, 90

Catherine Thompson Arrendale, 90, of Douglasville, GA, passed away February 4, 2010, after a short illness. Mrs. Arrendale was born in Sylvania, GA, to the late John Henry and Lessie Lovett Thompson. She was graduated from the School of Nursing of the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta, receiving her RN from the University of Georgia and was a Registered Nurse. She married Dr. Joe J. Arrendale on December 27, 1940, in Aiken, SC. They were long time residents of Cornelia, GA, and Reidsville, GA, before moving to Douglasville in 1967.
Mrs. Arrendale was a Life - member of the National Garden Club and the Garden Club of Georgia, a Master Gardener, member of the Skint Chestnut Garden Club of Douglasville, the Designers Club, and the Ikebana Ikenobo Society. She was a Master Judge for the National Garden Club, regularly winning awards for her design.
She is survived by her husband, Dr. Joe J. Arrendale of Douglasville; a son William Bruce Arrendale of Canton, GA ; a daughter and son - in - law Suzanne Arrendale and Ricky Strickland of Charleston, SC; five grandchildren; eight great - grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial will occur at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Garden Club of Georgia, noted for the General Scholarship Fund and mailed to Brenda Griner, GCG Assistant Treasurer, 244 Satilla Drive, Brunswick, GA 31523.

Christine Merritt Bland, 71

Christine Merritt Bland, age 71, passed away Sunday, February 7, 2010, at her residence. The Tattnall County native had lived in Florida for many years, prior to moving back to Tattnall County in 1981. She loved to fish and take care of her flowers. She was known for always being willing to help others and was of the Baptist faith. She is preceded in death by her parents, Earnest and Cleo Crews Merritt; brothers, James and Jessie Merritt and sisters, Lucille Hutcheson and Sandra Nell Arnold.
She is survived by her daughters and sons - in - law, Vivian Ann Roxby, Jane and John Mackinnon, Annette and Andy Gay, all of Reidsville, Jackie Smith and Dell Spikes, both of Florida; son and daughter - in - law, Robert Lee and Norma Jean Scarbrough of Reidsville; sisters, Etta Marie Pearson of Florida and Nadine Spikes of Reidsville; brother, Roger Dale Merritt of South Carolina; 13 grandchildren, 15 great - grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Burial services were held at the Reidsville Chapel on Tuesday afternoon, and interment followed in the Mt. Moriah United Methodist Church cemetery in Toombs County.
Pallbearers were James McGlashan, Ernie McGlashan, Bobby Lee Arnold, Willard Sikes, John Reddish, and Ronnie Phillips. Honorary pallbearers were members of the Reidsville Fire Department.

Wilbert “Ray” Harper, 77

Wilbert “Ray” Harper, age 77, passed away Sunday February 7, 2010, at Tattnall Health Care Center under the care of Ogeechee Area Hospice.
The Toombs County native had lived in Florida for many years before moving to Cobbtown 25 years ago. Ray loved reading, and especially the comics. He is preceded in death by his parents, Jerry and Estelle Lynn Harper.
He is survived by his aunt, Ruth McMillian of Swainsboro; caretakers, W.L. and Betty Sikes of Cobbtown, and numerous cousins.
Graveside funeral services were conducted Wednesday, February 10, 2010, from the Sunlight cemetery in Cobbtown, with the Reverend Sterling Bargeron officiating.
Bradley B. Anderson Funeral Home, Reidsville Chapel served the Harper family.
