Justine May Mallard, 82

Justine May Mallard, 82, passed away Tuesday, February 2, 2010, at Ogeechee Area Hospice in Statesboro. She was born in Stillmore to Marvin and Johanna O’Brien May. After her marriage to R.E. Mallard, they lived in Savannah for a time and she worked at Union Bag before returning to Aline to start a family. Mrs. Mallard worked as a bookkeeper for Perkins Poultry and with her husband at Mallard Ford Tractor. Her greatest pleasure was in 1980 when her only grandson, Kyle, was born. She was a member of Mt. Olive Primitive Baptist Church. Mrs. Mallard was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years and an infant son.
She is survived by a daughter and son - in - law, Rebecca “Becky” and Glyn Thrift; a grandson, Kyle Mallard Thrift, all of Metter; a brother and sister - in - law, Jack and Phyllis May of Sandy Springs; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were conducted Friday, at Mt. Olive Primitive Baptist Church with Elder Ron Yeakle and Elder John Sheldon Mikell officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery. Pallbearers were Sunny Youmans, Fred Alke, Coy Durden, Terry Manuel, John Thrift and Holt Mosley. Honorary pallbearers were Deacons of the Mt. Olive Primitive Baptist Church.

Doris L Manske, 93

Doris L Manske died peacefully at Community Hospice in Vidalia, GA on Saturday, February 6, 2010, after a brief illness. She was preceded in death by her husband, Howard Manske in 1959. Doris was born in Elizabeth, NJ, on July 21, 1916, to Lillian and Herbert Wacker. Upon graduation from high school, her parents took her on her first cruise as a graduation gift from New Jersey to Havana aboard the first ship ever christened that was supposedly “fireproof” … The Morro Castle (details in recently published book). Unfortunately, this ship burned on the return leg of the cruise. Doris, with her mother and father abandoned ship. She and her mother were rescued; her father drowned. In years to follow her favorite holiday was aboard a cruise ship for exotic ports. Following this tragic event, which gained national media attention, it was time to think about earning a living and she opened a dance studio in Roselle Park, NJ, which was quite successful for a number of years prior to relocating to Palm Beach County, FL in 1947. There she became involved in fashion retailing with Burdine’s Department Stores (Federated Department Stores). She enjoyed a very successful career and retired after 35 plus years to travel, play bridge and volunteer for The Arts. In 2003 she relocated to Reidsville, GA where she remained until her death.
She is survived by her son and daughter - in - law, Douglas K and Francine Manske of Reidsville, GA.; brother, Kenneth H Wacker and sister - in - law, Gisela of Hope Sound, FL; grandchildren: Michele Moore of Atlantis, Fl, ; Gina and Danny Kinsey of Reidsville, GA; Carrie Lynn and John Andersen of Jupiter, FL; Cristie Lee Manske of Norcross, GA; and Douglas H Manske of Durango, CO.; several great grandchildren, nieces and nephews that reside in the south Florida area and many life long loving friends.
A Memorial Service will be held in Palm Beach County, FL at a later date.

Cordeal “Deal” Carter, 93

Mrs. Cordeal “Deal” Carter, 93, died Tuesday, January 26, 2010, at her home under the care of Ogeechee Area Hospice. She was a lifelong resident of Tattnall County.
Mrs. Carter was a longtime member of Cobbtown Baptist Church where she taught Training Union and kept the nursery for years. She was a member of the Fidelis Sunday School Class. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Jeanette Priest, and son J.C. “Buddy” Carter.
She is survived by daughters and sons - in - law, Carolyn and Merrell Holland of Garden City, Marolyn and Billy Lynn of Collins, Judy and Don Farabaugh of Wilmington Island; sons and daughter - in - law, Bill and Fran Carter of Reidsville and Ronnie Carter of Cobbtown; one sister, Willie Mae Yaughn of Garden City; 15 grandchildren, 25 great - grandchildren, five great - great - grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, January 30, at the Cobbtown Baptist Church with Dr. Roger Branch officiating.
Burial followed in the Sunlight Cemetery. Pallbearers were Bill Carter, Ronnie Carter, Don Farabaugh, John Barry Holland, Wesley Carter and Kevin O’Keefe. In lieu of flowers, the family welcomes remembrances to Ogeechee Area Hospice, PO Box 531, Statesboro, GA 30459 or to your favorite charity.

JoeAnn Sapp Hensley, 76

JoeAnn Sapp Hensley, 76, died Saturday, January 30, 2010, at her home. She was born in Pulaski, Georgia to Joe and Alma DeLoach Sapp. She lived her early years there, graduating from Pulaski High School where she loved roller - skating. JoeAnn had lived in Cobbtown since 1956, was a homemaker and a secretary at Hensley Tobacco Warehouse for many years. She was a member of the Cobbtown Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Doris Foss.
She is survived by her husband, Don Hensley; son, Jeff Hensley; daughter, Donna Hensley; one grandson, Hensley Jarriel, all of Cobbtown; two sisters, Hazel Williams of Pulaski and Ouida Livingston of Swainsboro; and several nieces and nephews.
Memorial services were held Tuesday, February 2, 2010, at Kennedy Funeral Homes, Cobbtown Chapel with Rev.Sterling Bargeron officiating.
Remembrances may be made to Primitive Baptist Foundation (Haiti), Darryl Harris, Sec./Tres., PO Box 595, Roswell, GA 30077, to assist with Haiti relief.

James “Buck” Kirkland, 81

Mr. James “Buck” Kirkland, age 81, passed away Thursday January 28, 2010, at East Georgia Regional Medical Center.
The Bulloch County native had lived in Evans County most of his life. He was a farmer and of the Baptist faith. He loved fishing and playing with his grandchildren. Mr. Kirkland is preceded in death by his wife of 51 years, Sandra Kirkland; parents, Maner and Lula Kirkland; daughter, Sandy Kirkland; sister, Lalia Whitaker; great granddaughter, Madison Rose.
He is survived by daughter, Debbie Kirkland of Bellville; sons and daughters - in - law, Dwane and Tammy Kirkland of Louiville, KY, Jerry and Jeannie Kirkland of Brunswick, Jimmy and Wilda Kirkland of Reidsville, Roger and Brandie Kirkland of Claxton and Joey Kirkland of Bellville; sisters, Beatrice Blocker of Glennville, Jeanette Rushing of Register, Jean Kicklighter of Claxton and Ann Kirkland of Reidsville; brothers, Loyd Kirkland of Statesboro, Clifford Kirkland of Reidsville, Talmadge Kirkland of Sacramento, CA, and Gary Kirkland of Vidalia; ten grandchildren, three great - grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were conducted Sunday, January 31, 2010, from the Reidsville Chapel of Bradley B. Anderson Funeral Home with the Rev. Kenneth Green and Elder Jimmy Haire officiating. Interment followed in the Brewton cemetery in Hagan.
Pallbearers were Larry Kirkland, Danny Kirkland, Randy Kirkland, Freddie Rushing, Timmy Rushing, and Anthony Kicklighter. Honorary Pallbearers were the Hagan and Reidsville Fire Departments .

Eugene Ray, 66

Mr. Eugene Ray, 66, passed away on Saturday, January 30, 2010, at Hospice Savannah.
Mr. Ray was born in Tattnall County to the late Luther Curtis Ray and Mollie Lynn Ray. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Blitchton and enjoyed fishing and farming. He had retired from the Coastal State Prison. He was preceded in death by a sister and brother - in - law, Imogene and Leroy Colson.
Survivors include his wife, Carolyn Ray; children and their wives/husbands, Mitchell and Cindy Ray, Brenda and Darren Nivens, Penny and Billy Oglesby and Dylan Ray; grandchildren, Crystal Ray, Ryleigh Dukes, Samantha, Shanda and Noah Oglesby and Duncan Nivens; step - grandchildren, Candace, Brandon and Joshua Blackman; brothers and sisters - in - laws, Avon and Annette Ray, O.T. and Joyce Ray and Ronnie and Sue Ray; sisters and brother - in - law Christine Sapp, Reba Hill and Joy and Steve Spence, and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday, February 2, 2010, in the chapel of the funeral home with burial following at Effingham Memorial Gardens on Highway 119 in Effingham County.

Horace Edwin Anderson, 81

Horace Edwin Anderson, 81, of Glennville, passed away Thursday, April 01, 2010, after a long illness. He was at home surrounded by family and close friends. He was born on August 1, 1928, to Horace and Vira Dent Anderson of Tattnall County. Edwin was a graduate of Glennville High School, a U.S. Army Veteran and was retired from the civil service of the Forestry Division at Ft. Stewart. He was an honorary member of the Shady Hammock Hunting Club. He was an avid outdoorsman who loved to hunt and fish and was affectionately known as “the RoadRunner”.
He is preceded in death by his parents; sister, Nelda Groover ; son - in - law, Mickey McCrary.
Edwin is survived by his wife of 59 years, Ulma Lee Anderson of Glennville; a son, Danny Edwin Anderson of Rincon; daughters and son - in - law, Diane McCrary of Jesup, Lori and Jerry McDaniel of Jesup, and Patty Kicklighter of Lexington, SC; sisters, Rhonella Carter and Wynell Mallard of Jesup and Lanola Mankin of Brunswick; six grandchildren and 14 great - grandchildren, and several nieces, nephews and in - laws.
Funeral services were held Saturday, April 3, 2010, from the chapel of Brannen - Kennedy Funeral Home, Glennville Chapel, with Elder W. H. Durrence officiating. Burial followed in Glennville City Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Neal Anderson, Michael McCrary, Horace Carter, Billy Lawson, Shane Brannen, Gary Dasher, Shad Dasher, and Glen Dasher.
Honorary pallbearers were Truman Anderson, Elliott Anderson, Buddy DeLoach, Kline Tootle, Larry Wilkes, Donnie Stubbs, Derrie Smiley, and Roger Wilkinson.

Barbara C. (Hill) Bianchini, 76

Barbara C. (Hill) Bianchini, beloved wife of Joseph J. Bianchini, a 54 - year resident of Bridgewater, died unexpectedly and peacefully March 29, while surrounded by her family. She was 76 years young. Barbara was a daughter of the late Wilton and Lillian Hill and was raised in Reidsville, GA. She was the valedictorian of Reidsville High School at the age of 15. She later attended Georgia Southern and graduated at the age of 19 with a degree in nursing. After getting married in 1956, she moved to Bridgewater, where she raised her family. Barbara loved being a nurse and worked at Phaneuf Hospital in Brockton, Goddard Hospital in Stoughton and then retired in 1992 at the age of 58 from Paul A. Dever State School, where she was a nursing instructor. Barbara was always a caregiver to her friends and family. She loved swimming, exercising, cooking, reading and traveling to Naples, FL.
Barbara was a devoted and loving wife for 54 years to Joseph J.; loving mother of Deborah and her husband Jeff Metcalfe of Plymouth, Michele Webber of Bridgewater, Ron Bianchini of Bridgewater and Dave Bianchini of Raynham; proud grandmother of Melissa, Josh, Greg, Ashley, Andy, Joey, Trevor, Brianna, McKenzie, Justin; and a great - grandmother to Tylar; loving sister of Gail Thurmond, Jill Flynn and Jack Hill of Georgia.
Funeral arrangements for Barbara are private.

Shirley Marie Hood

Mrs. Shirley Marie Hood, age 65 of Mt. Vernon died Monday, November 22, 2010.
Mrs. Hood was preceded in death by her parents Eli Chevious Stewart and Marie Holton and a son, Donald Wayne Wood, Jr. She was a member of the First Baptist Church, Glenwood.
Survivors include her husband, Joseph Hood; daughter Yvette Marie (Emory) Mimbs, Milledgeville; brothers, Herman (Linda) Stewart and Nathan Stewart, East Dublin; grandson, Robbie Barron, granddaughter, Aprill Snellgrove, and great - granddaughter, Hope Snellgrove.
Graveside services will be held in Westview Cemetery, Soperton at 11 a.m. Friday, November 26, with the Rev. Kevin Hammons officiating.
The family will receive friends at Sammons Funeral Home Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. and may be reached at 330 Geiger St., Mt. Vernon.

Reverend Randy K. Bradham, 53

Reverend Randy K. Bradham, age 53, passed away Friday, April 2, 2010, at Memorial Medical University Health Center in Savannah. He was a lifelong Tattnall County resident and was a carpenter, serving with the Carpenters Union 256. He was known as the local Santa Claus for the Reidsville Christmas Festival and other events. He was the founder of Randy’s Kids, which was an organization that provided bicycles to the unprivileged kids at Christmas and was also a volunteer for the American Red Cross DAT team. He was the Sergeant - At - Arms with the Woodmen of World Reidsville Lodge. Rev. Bradham was a member of the Reidsville Church of God, where he served as the Sunday School Superintendent and in the Church Van Ministry. He enjoyed doing the Nursing Home ministry and was an US Army Veteran. He is preceded in death by his father, Joseph Elisha Bradham. His mother, Vondell Bradham Siler passed away on Sunday April 4, 2010
He is survived by his daughter: Sandra Bradham of Baxley; son, Jason Bradham of Cedar Crossing; fiancée: Betty Rowell of Reidsville; sister and brother - in - law, Debbie Willis Joiner and Ellis Joiner of Collins; brother and sister - in - law, Regan and Patricia Bradham of Collins; four grandchildren, Cameron, Trevor, Vivian and Allen Bradham; three nieces, Heather and Brian Curl of Collins, Tammi Willis and Joshua Ausburn of Cairo, and Kayla Calhoun of Collins; nephew: Deven Bradham of Collins; great - nieces: Brittney Curl and Reaghlyn Calhoun, both of Collins; and a great - nephew, Austin Curl of Collins
Funeral services were conducted Tuesday from the Reidsville Chapel of Bradley B. Anderson Funeral Home with the Reverends William and Linda Prince and John Nunes officiating. Interment followed in the Bradham Family Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Deven Bradham, Austin Curl, Bo Hutcheson, Darrell Collins, Louis Eason, Ricky Lechot, and Kenny Mack
Honorary pallbearers were Casey Huff, Billy Smith, Eugene Edwards, Rocky Hutcheson, David Talbot, and Donald Akins
