Ronnie Allen Phillips
Mr. Ronnie Allen Phillips, 56 of Soperton, died Wednesday, November 10, 2010.
Mr. Phillips was a lifelong resident of Treutlen County and was retired from Mohawk Industries, East Dublin.
Survivors include his wife, Wynoka Peebles Phillips; a son, Waylon Phillips, of Soperton; two step - children, Stephanie (John) Hightower, of Macon and Curtis Dunn, of Soperton; his mother, Doris Edge of Soperton; and two brothers, Steve Edge and Rodney Edge, both of Soperton.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, November 12 in the Chapel of Sammons Funeral Home with the Reverend Jason Corbett officiating. Burial will be in Westview Cemetery, Soperton.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.

Glynn T. Carter, 64

Glynn T. Carter, 64, passed away April 3, 2010, after an extended illness. Glynn was born November 21, 1945, in Columbia, SC, to Johnson Earl and Erion Turner Carter. He was retired from Alltel Communications as a Cable/Splicer and was a member of Glennville United Methodist Church. He was a beloved husband, father, son and brother, and is preceded in death by his father, Johnson Earl Carter.
He is survived by his wife, Marilyn Dasher Carter of Glennville; son, Blake Turner Carter of Glennville; mother, Erion Carter of Baxley; sisters, Linda Felker of Columbus, GA, and Janet Morris of Saint Simons Island, GA; brother, Kevin Carter of Baxley; mother - in - law, Eloise Dasher of Glennville; sisters - in - law, Paula King (Ronnie) of Cumming and Mariann Rogers (Ken) of Glennville; brothers - in - law, Clinton Dasher Jr. (Kay) of Glennville and Jon Paul Dasher (Missy) of Statesboro; beloved pet, Rocky Dog Carter, and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services were held Tuesday, April 6, 2010, at the Chapel of Brannen Kennedy Funeral Home with Rev Vance Riggins officiating. Burial followed in Glennville City Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Justin Morris, Clinton Dasher Jr, Jon Paul Dasher, Ronnie King, Ken Rogers, Bruce Welsh, Colby Blanchard, and Steve Steigman
Honorary pallbearers were former co - workers of Alltel Communications.

Vernon B. Anderson, 87

Mr. Vernon B. Anderson, age 87, of Danielsville, GA, passed away Thursday, April 22, 2010, at the Athens Regional Medical Center. Born in Glennville, GA, he was the son of the late Rudy Anderson and Mattie Mae Gleason Anderson and was the widower of Joan Whitehead Anderson. Mr. Anderson was a veteran of the U.S. Army, having served in WWII.
He is survived by his son, Terry Anderson, of Reidsville; daughter, Jenny Anderson, of Savannah; sisters and brothers - in - law, Beatrice and Walter Anderson of Glennville, and Vadna and Horace Stanfield of Lakeland, FL; grandchildren, Wendy Goodman and John as well as Ginger, Wendell, Austin, Amber and Danielle; great grandchildren, Joni Anderson, Emily Tucker and August Anderson and several nieces and nephews.
Graveside memorial services will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Saturday May 1, 2010, from the Watermelon Creek Baptist Church cemetery in Glennville, with the Rev, Bryan Anderson officiating. Military Honors will be rendered by the US Army.

Peggy J. Dyke Blanchard, 61

Peggy J. Dyke Blanchard, 61, passed away Friday, April 23, 2010, at her residence surrounded by her family and friends. She was born September 1, 1948, to Durward and Leona Mae Dyke in Blossburg, PA. She and her family moved from Wellsboro, PA, to Glennville, in 1985 and she retired from Rotary Corporation in 2008. She was a loving wife, mother and grandmother. She loved writing recipes, letters and cards to family and friends and caring for her cat, Midnight. She was a member and loved her church, Little Rock Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her parents, Durward and Leona Mae Dyke; sisters, Mary Spencer, Florence Dyke; brothers, Colie Dyke Jr. and Robert Dyke.
She is survived by her husband of 33 years, James A. “Jim” Blanchard of Glennville; sons and daughter - in - law, Jamie and Lindy Blanchard of Glennville, Carl Merrick of Hinesville, Jeff Merrick of Savannah; adopted daughter, Jennifer Robb of Glennville; sisters, Frances Jayne of Mansfield, PA, and Patricia Gerow of Morris Run, PA; grandchildren, Jamie Blanchard II, Alex Dean, Elizabeth Manly, Kaitlyn Dean, William Manly, Robert Blanchard, Brandon Blanchard, Sebastian Merrick, Ian Merrick and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Monday, April 26, 2010, at 6 p.m., at Little Rock Baptist Church, with Reverend Bryan Anderson officiating. A second funeral will be held Thursday, April 29, at 11 a.m., from the Chapel of Buckheit Funeral Chapel. Burial will follow in Prospect cemetery in Mansfield, PA.
Remembrances may be sent, in lieu of flowers, to: little Rock Baptist Church, P.O. Box 487, Glennville, GA 30427.
Pallbearers were Arnold Swindell, Mike Zorn, Gerald Tedder, Ronnie DeLoach, Darrell Balance, Jimmy Parker, Danny Moore and David Dinkins. Honorary pallbearers were Jamie Blanchard II, Alex Dean and John Kirkland.

Mary Buxton Daniel, 93

Mary Buxton Daniel, 93, passed away Friday, April 16, 2010, in Savannah. She was born in Girard, GA, April 3, 1917, to Judah Benjamin Buxton and Louise Odum Buxton. She was a graduate of South Georgia Teachers College, and taught school in Bellville, GA, where she met her husband, the late Cecil K. Daniel. She was a resident of Glennville since 1949 and was a teacher in Glennville in the public school system for many years. She was a member of Glennville United Methodist Church, the Ladies Church Circle and Cowart Sunday School Class. She loved flowers and was a long time member of the Glennville Garden Club. She is preceded in death by her husband, Cecil K. Daniel Sr., a son Julian Bird Daniel, a brother, and three sisters.
Survivors include children, Cecil K. Daniel Jr. and Buxton “Bucky” Laing Daniel, both of Savannah, and a sister, Eloise Jenkins of Augusta; six grandchildren, four great - grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Sunday, April 18, 2010, from the Chapel of Brannen - Kennedy Funeral Home. Burial followed at Brewton Cemetery, Hagan, GA.
Pallbearers were Cecil K. Daniel III, Buxton Laing Daniel Jr., Carolus W. Daniel Jr., Wayne Buxton, Daniel B. Dubberly III, and Bert Oliver

Ray Glisson, 76

Ray Glisson, 76, of Metter died Tuesday, April 13, 2010, at the Candler County Hospital. He was born in Tattnall County, the son of Harvey and Mary Frances Glisson. He lived most of his life in Metter and served in the U.S. Army. Ray owned and operated H & R Block for 42 years. He was a member and senior Deacon at Upper Lotts Creek Primitive Baptist Church. Ray was a member of the Kingsmen Construction Crew, who assisted small churches in re - modeling. He was a past member of the Jaycees, Lions Club and the Metter Masonic Lodge. He loved gardening, fishing, hunting and going to gospel sings.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Byron Glisson.
Survivors are his wife, Marilyn Motes Glisson of Metter; daughters and sons - in - law, Wendy and Bubba Bird of Metter, Kristal Jones of St. Simons Island, Tressa and Andrew Cheney of Metter; sister and brother - in - law, Olivia and Ronnie Funderburk of Cobbtown; brother and sisters - in - law, Aaron and Gloria Glisson and Belinda Glisson all of Reidsville; four grandchildren, Brenna Bird, Grant Davis, Britt Bird and Casen Cheney.
Funeral services were held Friday, April 16, at Upper Lotts Creek Primitive Baptist Church with Elder Lindy Webb and Elder Ron Yeakle officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery. Pallbearers were Grant Davis, Britt Bird, Bubba Bird, Aaron Glisson, Jalvis Motes, Drew Cheney and Casen Cheney. Honorary pallbearers were the Kingsmen Construction Crew, George McGowan and Ralph Vick.

Emmett L. Hogg, 86

Emmett L. Hogg, 86, died Thursday, April 15, 2010, at Evans Memorial Hospital. The West Point, GA, native lived in Savannah and Baxley for many years before moving to Glennville. He was a World War II Navy Veteran, retired from Duramatic Corporation and a member and deacon of Calvary Baptist Church. He is preceded in death by his first wife, Doris Booker Hogg; son, Michael Hogg; and grandson, Carey Hogg
Survivors include his wife, Patsy K. Hogg of Glennville; children: Faye H. and Michael Rakyta of Savannah, Valinda H. and Guy Meeker of Hinesville, Frankie Hogg of Guyton, Daryl and Phyllis Hogg of Clarksville, TN, Timothy and Ginnie Hogg of Mesquite, TX; step - children, Becky L. and Mark Gehrls of Grand Forks, MN, Jeffrey B. and Jaymie Vacura of Roy, WA, and Dominick John Vacura of Omaha, NE;13 Grandchildren, 13 Great - Grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services were Monday, April 19, 2010, at Calvary Baptist Church with Rev. Jerry Knight officiating. Burial followed in Hillcrest Abbey West cemetery in Savannah with military honors.
Pallbearers were Michael Hogg Jr., Brian Hogg, Mark Hogg, Richie Witcher, Mike Adams, Matt Wells.

Eula Holton, age 86

Ms. Eula Holton, age 86 passed away Thursday, April 15, 2010, at the Ogeechee Area Hospice Inpatient Center in Statesboro. The Florida native had lived in Savannah for 15 years, before moving to Metter five years ago. She was an accountant and a member of the Islands Assembly of God on Wilmington Island and attended New Life Baptist Church in Metter for the past five years. Ms. Holton is preceded in death by her husband, William R. “Bill” Holton.
She is survived by a daughter and son - in - law, Charlotte and Thomas Dixon of Metter; a son and daughter - in - law, Steve and Valree Holton of Reidsville; two brothers, Dillon Thomas of La Belle, FL, and Lilborn (Sara) Thomas of Anniston, AL; six sisters, Marie Mott of Ft. Myers, FL, Lessie Sterbens of Sevierville, TN, Joyce (Harrell) Cook of Saucier, MS, Lois Touchstone of North Ft. Myers, FL, Shirley Hadley of Ft. Myers, FL, and Pat (Les) Dixon of Mobile, AL; three grandchildren, Eric (Hilary) Dixon of Canton, GA, Reiner Holton of Adel, GA, and Shawn (Meredith) Holton of Calhoun, GA; nine great - grandchildren, Drew, Taylor, Emma and Ava Rose Dixon, Marcus, Trenton, Trinity, Grace and Lily Holton; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers were Eric Dixon, Reiner Holton, Shawn Holton, Marcus Holton, Trenton Holton, and Chuck Jones. Honorary pallbearers were the Willing Workers Sunday School Class.
Funeral services were held Monday, April 19, 2010, with Rev. Andy Haman officiating. Interment followed in the Lake Cemetery.

Celina Rogers Sharpe, 89

Ms. Celina Rogers Sharpe, age 89 passed away Friday, April 16, 2010, at the Ogeechee Area Hospice Inpatient Center in Statesboro. The Glennville native had lived in Reidsville most of her life. She was the daughter of the late Aden and Lennie Easterling Rogers and graduated from Glennville High School in 1936 and attended Georgia Teachers College. She taught school at Hillview, Tyson and Reidsville during the 1940s before becoming the Director for the Tattnall County Department of Family and Children Services in April 1952, where she served until October 1977, when she retired. She was a member of the Tattnall County Board of Health, and was the secretary/treasurer of the Reidsville Crisis Fund. She was a member of the Reidsville United Methodist Church and the Reidsville Rascalettes which is a widow organization within the church, and was a member of the Easter Star.
Partially due to the fact that her son Gary passed away before the age of three, she unofficially adopted her nieces and nephews and grand - nieces and nephews throughout her adult life. Her former Reidsville High School students and former employees of DFCS remember her as a strong teacher and leader who expected the best from students and employees. Family members will remember her as a matriarch of the family who delighted in keeping up with the achievements of her relatives and friends.
Ms. Sharpe is preceded in death by her husband, Carlyle H. Sharpe; son, Gary; sister, Corinne McCall; brother, Gene Rogers.
She is survived by two sisters, Carolyn Sands and Christine Durrence both of Glennville; a brother and sister - in - law, Azeph and Louise Rogers of Glennville; a foster brother and sister - in - law, G.W. and Marvelle Thompson of Glennville; and several nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers were Johnny Shuman, Daniel Shuman, Jackie Trim, Roger Kennedy, Frank Murphy and Bubba Burkhalter. Honorary pallbearers were Reidsville Rascalettes and Tattnall County Board of Health.
Funeral Services were conducted Monday, April 19, 2010, from the Reidsville United Methodist Church with Rev. Marc Foster officiating. Interment followed in the Reidsville City Cemetery.
Memorials may be given to the Reidsville Crisis Fund P.O. Box 218 Reidsville, GA 30453.

Frank A. Walker

Mr. Frank A. Walker of Glennville, passed away at Candler Hospital in Savannah, on Friday, April 16, 2010. Mr. Walker served his country in the United States Air Force for a number of years.
He is survived by his wife Mrs. Cathy Walker of Glennville, one son and daughter - in - law, Rollins and Evelyn Walker of Douglasville, Georgia and one daughter and son - in - law, Cynthia and Ronald Pettis of Winder, GA; four sisters, Barbara Pollar, Debra Walker Little, Lynn Newton, Signe Walker, all of Atlanta, and a host of other relatives and friends.
Burial ceremony will be private.
King and Son’s Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
