Benito Santana, 63, died Saturday, April 3, 2010, at South Georgia Medical Center in Lake Park, GA. The Raymondville, TX, native had lived in Homestead, FL, before moving to Lake Park, seven years ago. He was a Vietnam veteran and an agricultural worker. Survivors include his wife, Sandra Santana of Statenville; children, Dolores Gonzalez of Oklahoma City, OK, Benito Leon Santana of Homestead, FL, and Donna Marquez of Glennville; step - children, Kimberly Rene Stone of Lake Park, Billy Hugh Crews Jr. of Statenville, , Stacy Danette Oelhafen of Lake Park; brother, Ramon Santana of Raymondville, TX; sister, Flor Moreno of Homestead, FL, and JoAnn Silguero of Indianapolis, IN; 10 grandchildren; five step - grandchildren, and three great - grandchildren.
Graveside funeral services will be Thursday, April 8, 2010, at 2:00 p.m. at Georgia Veterans Memorial cemetery in Glennville.
Brannen - Kennedy Funeral Home, Glennville Chapel, was in charge of the arrangements.

Betty Dixon Sikes, 76

Mrs. Betty Dixon Sikes, age 76, passed away Monday April 5, 2010, at St. Joseph Hospital is Savannah. The Tatttnall County native had lived in Cobbtown most of her life. She was the owner of Betty’s Flower Shop and was a member of Cobbtown Baptist Church. She is preceded in death by her parents, Grady and Annie Belle Lynn Dixon; brother, Andrew Jackson “Tunk” Dixon; and a son, John Sikes.
She is survived by her husband of 54 years, WL Sikes of Cobbtown; a daughter, Sara Sikes of Cobbtown; brother and sister - in - law, Bobby and Naomi Dixon of Hepzibah; sister and brother - in - law, Cheryl and David Davis of Vidalia; grandsons, John Trent and Amanda Sikes of Glennville
and Robbie Sikes of Cobbtown; two great - grandsons, Patrick and Noah Sikes of Glennville and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services were conducted Wednesday, April 7, 2010, from the Cobbtown Baptist Church with the Reverend Doug Weisel officiating. Interment followed in the Sunlight cemetery in Cobbtown.
Memorials may be made to: the Cobbtown Baptist Church.

Vondell “Bradham” Siler, 73

Vondell “Bradham” Siler, age 73 passed away Sunday April 4, 2010, at the home of Debra Willis Joiner and Ellis Joiner in Collins, GA. She was a lifelong Tattnall County resident. She was a part - owner of Joe’s Fish House in Reidsville, GA. She was a homemaker and childcare assistant for the local community. She was employed by Roydonwear Factory. Sister Vondell was a member of the Reidsville Church of God, where she was an active member of the prison ministry. She is preceded in death by her husband, Joseph Elisha Bradham, and husband, Arnold Siler; three brothers, Buford Mack, Jimmy Mack, and Rabun Mack; as well as a sister Maudena Morgan; and a son, Rev. Randy Bradham.
She is survived by: her daughter and son - in - law, Debra Willis Joiner and Ellis Joiner of Collins; son and daughter - in - law, Regan and Patricia Bradham of Collins; sisters, Verdlee Martin of Cobbtown, and Naomi Brown of Aline; brother, Jerry Mack of Adairsville; six grandchildren, Heather (Brian) Curl of Collins, Jason Bradham of Cedar Crossing,
Tammi Willis (Joshua Ausburn) of Cairo, Sandra Bradham of Baxley, Kayla Calhoun of Collins, Deven Bradham of Collins; two great - granddaughters, Brittney Curl of Collins and Vivian Bradham; three great - grandsons, Austin Curl of Collins, Cameron, Trevor and Allen Bradham; a great - great - granddaughter, Reaghlyn Calhoun.
Funeral Services were conducted Tuesday, April 13, 2010, from the Reidsville Chapel of Bradley B. Anderson Funeral Home with the Reverends William and Linda Prince, John Nunes, and Sherry Hill officiating. Interment followed in the Bradham Family Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Gene Oliver, Fred Mack, Ronnie Morgan, Larry Martin, Gary Martin and Ricky Willis.
Honorary Pallbearers were Casey Huff, Billy Smith, Eugene Edwards, Rocky Hutcheson, David Talbot and Donald Akins.
Memorials may be given to: the Reidsville Church of God, Building Fund, PO Box 1668 Reidsville, GA 30453.

Gussie Mae Slack, 65

Mrs. Gussie Mae Slack, 65, of Glennville, passed away at her residence on Friday, April 2, 2010. She was a native of Tattnall County and a member of Greater Zachariah Baptist Church in Glennville. Her parents were the late Nunie Smith and Glenn Tippins.
She is survived by one daughter, Tabitha Slack of Glennville; two sisters, Minnie L. Newton and Judy Berry of Glennville; one brother, David Johnson of New York, NY, and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 10, 2010, at 11:00 a.m. at the Greater Zachariah Baptist Church in Glennville, with burial in the church cemetery.
King and Son’s Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

George W. (Jack) Strickland Jr., 85

George W. (Jack) Strickland Jr., 85, died April 5, 2010, at his home. The Evans County native was born March 1, 1925. He was the son of George W. Strickland Sr., and Carrie Bell Sikes Strickland. He was raised in Daisy, GA, and was a member of the Daisy United Methodist Church. Mr. Strickland served his country in the United States Army from February 1943 until December 1945. In 1949 he married Muriel Anderson of Bulloch County.
On May 8, 1948, Mr. Strickland purchased Evans Concrete Products Company in Daisy. The company moved to Claxton and was incorporated in 1962 and continued to expand to include 14 ready - mix concrete plants and two sand mine operations by the time of his retirement in 2002. In April 2002, the Georgia General Assembly adopted a resolution honoring Mr. Strickland which stated in part: “Mr. Strickland always credited his tremendous success to his dedicated employees and his loyal customers, but his personal leadership, vision, and commitment to the needs of individuals and families have significantly strengthened their opportunities and well - being.”
Mr. Strickland was a philanthropist who made numerous contributions to organizations and communities to improve the quality of life in Evans and surrounding counties. He was a current or past member of several professional and civic organizations, including: Rotary, Masons, Shriners, Claxton/Evans County Chamber of Commerce, Claxton Bank Director, Georgia Society of Professional Engineers, Georgia Concrete and Products Association, Inc., National Ready Mix Concrete Association, Claxton Lions Club, Evans County Farm Bureau, American Legion, Claxton City Council - 1960 and 1961, founding member of Evans County Wildlife Club, founding member of Evans Heights Golf Club, and 1972 Employer of the Year for the Claxton Business and Professional Women’s Club. Mr. Strickland enjoyed golfing and fishing and hunting with his beloved bird dogs.
He was preceded in death by his parents, George W. Sr. and Carrie Bell Strickland; one sister, Frankie Leggett; five brothers, J.C. Strickland, Ellis W. (Shorty) Strickland, Dryfus Strickland, Harry Strickland and Dan Strickland.
He is survived by his wife, Muriel Anderson Strickland; one sister, Martha Fortner; two sisters - in - law, Genevieve Kirkland and Marjorie Strickland; and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, April 8, 2010, at11:00 a.m., at Daisy United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in the Brewton cemetery in Hagan.
Pallbearers will be Tommy Strickland, Larry Strickland, W. Donald Smith, Lee Anderson, Andy Miller and Randall Miller.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Daisy United Methodist Church Building Fund, P. O. Box 106, Daisy, Georgia, 30423; or Brewton cemetery Fund, P. O. Box 978, Claxton, Georgia, 30417.

Capt. John E. Wallace Jr., 90

Capt. John E. Wallace Jr. age 90, passed away Wednesday, March 31, 2010, at Glenvue Health and Rehabilitation Center under the care of Southern Care Hospice. The Savannah native was a retired Panama Canal Pilot and was a US Navy Veteran. Capt. Wallace is preceded in death by his parents, John E. and Bessie Wallace.
Graveside Services were conducted Friday, April 2, 2010, at the Georgia Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Glennville, GA.
Bradley B. Anderson Funeral Home, Glennville Chapel 912 - 654 - 1402 served the Wallace family.

Herbert Williams, 81

Mr. Herbert Williams, age 81 passed away Wednesday, March 31, 2010 at the Tattnall Healthcare Center in Reidsville. The Eastman native had lived in Alma many years, prior to moving to Reidsville five years ago. He loved fixing up bicycles and was a member of First Born Baptist Church in Alma.
He is survived by his wife of 21years, Roberta Williams of Alma; daughter, Eloise Simpson of Waycross; step - daughters, Rosie Lee Jackson of Alma and Janie Simpson of Waycross; step - sons, Johnnie B. Turner of Lakeland, FL, and Frank Simpson of Alma; brother, JW Williams of Waycross, and several grandchildren, great - grandchildren, and nieces and nephews. .
Funeral Services will be held at First Born Baptist Church in Alma.

Marie Cowart Anderson, 74

Marie Cowart Anderson, 74, died Saturday, March 27, 2010, at Westview Nursing home.
The Tattnall County native was a homemaker and had served in the U.S. Air Force. She was preceded in death by her parents, Walter Cowart and Annie Lee Oliver and her husband, Thomas Anderson.
Survivors include her children, Donna Marie Welch and Larry Allen Welch; sisters, Leigh Chaney of Springfield and Clara Nell Lane of Rincon; and numerous grandchildren, nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews.
Graveside funeral services were held Wednesday, March 31, 2010, at Collins Cemetery.
Thomas C. Strickland & Sons Funeral Home, Effingham Chapel, was in charge of the arrangements.

Jimmie Bacon, Sr., 63

Mr. Jimmie Bacon, Sr., 63, of Ludowici, GA, passed away on Friday, March 12, 2010, at the Liberty Regional Medical Center in Hinesville, GA.
He is survived by one son, Jimmie Bacon, Jr.; five daughters, Bridget Johnson, Michelle Hicks, and Brenda Hicks all of Ludowici, GA, Shawn Bacon of Macon, GA, Brittany Glover of Augusta, GA; two grandchildren and one great grandchild and a host of cousins, other relatives and friends.
Memorial services were held Wednesday, March 31, 2010, at 11:00 am at King and Son’s Funeral Home Chapel. Burial was private.
King and Son’s Funeral Home of Glennville, Georgia, was in charge of arrangements.

Juanita P. Bennett, 70

Juanita P. Bennett, 70, passed away Friday, March 26, 2010, at Evans Memorial Hospital. She was born in Long Beach, California, and raised in Utah. She lived in Guyton for many years moving to Glennville in 1986. She was a graduate of Georgia Southern University and retired from civil service at Ft. Stewart. She was a member of the Red Hat Ladies and Glennville First Christian Church. She is preceded in death by her father, Luther Perry and brother, Reed Perry.
Survivors include: children, Michael Chapman (Bonnie) of Glennville, Mark Bennett (Donna) of Savannah; mother, Ruth Perry of Salt Lake City, Utah; sister, Meldee Love (Don) of Salt Lake City, Utah; brother, Luther Perry of San Jose, California; grandchildren, Madison Mae Chapman, Mark A. Bennett, Megan Bennett; and several nieces and nephews also survive.
Visitation will be from 12:30 pm to 1:30 pm, Thursday, April 1, 2010, at Brannen - Kennedy Funeral Home.
Graveside Funeral Services will follow at 2:00 pm, Thursday, April 1, 2010, at the Georgia Veterans Memorial cemetery with Rev. Wendell Miller officiating.
