James Walter Bruner, II

James Walter Bruner, II, passed away March 28, 2010, at his residence in Tattnall County, under the care of Ogeechee Area Hospice.
He was a resident of Evans and Tattnall counties and served his country in the U.S. Army. He was manager of Gold Kist and Southern States for 30 years and won many awards for his management and for having the top company sales. He was of Baptist faith and in his earlier days loved hunting and outdoor sports.
He is survived by one son, James Walter (Jimmy) Bruner, III, and wife, Tabatha, of Claxton; one daughter, Vivian Elizabeth (Vickie) Miller and husband, Harvey, of Sylvania, GA; his fiancé, Linda Collins of Reidsville; three grandchildren, James Walter (Walt) Bruner, IV, Brandon Wayne Bruner and Shelby Elizabeth Miller; two sisters, Kizzie Wood of Collins and Carolyn Reese of Claxton; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
A memorial service was held Wednesday, March 31, 7:00 p.m., at J. Mellie NeSmith Funeral Home Chapel.

Estelle Carolyn Nail Drake, 92

Estelle Carolyn Nail Drake, 92, died Thursday, March 25, 2010, at her home in Glennville, Georgia, after a long illness. She was a native of Tattnall County, Georgia, born February 4, 1918, the daughter of James Benjamin Nail and Zera Godbee. She attended what was then Georgia Teachers College in Statesboro and graduated in 1943 with a Bachelor of Education degree. She did post graduate work in South Carolina and in Athens, Georgia, and taught at Yeomans School near Collins, Georgia, as well as schools in Atlanta and Langley, South Carolina.
On September 25, 1946, she married Charles Hinton Drake, also of Tattnall County. She was a committed Christian and had a deep and abiding faith in God. She was a devoted wife and mother for whom family always came first.
She was predeceased by her husband of 63 years, Dr. Charles H. Drake. She is survived by two children, Charles Edward Drake and Carol Louise Drake, both of Savannah; daughter - in - law, Rita Chabot Drake; and grandchild, Vivienne Rita Drake.
She was predeceased by her only sibling, Geneva Nail Scott, formerly of Reidsville, and survived by one niece, Shirley Scott McCorkle, her husband, Earl McCorkle, their children, Eve McCorkle Seawright and Van Scott McCorkle, and grandchildren.
Visitation will be held at Brannen - Kennedy Funeral Home in Glennville on Sunday afternoon, March 28, 2010, beginning at 1:30 pm.
Funeral Services were held Sunday, March 28, 2010 at 3 p.m. at Brannen - Kennedy Funeral Home Chapel in Glennville with Elder Tom Sollosi officiating. Interment was in the Glennville City Cemetery.
Pallbearers: Earl McCorkle, Chad Seawright, Van McCorkle, David W. Seawright, David V. Seawright, and Kenneth Sikes.
Remembrances: Cornerstone Bible Church, P. O. Box 598, Glennville, Georgia 30427.

Irene “Jean” Spikes Kersey, 75

Irene “Jean” Spikes Kersey, 75, passed away, Saturday, March 27, 2010, at Glenvue Nursing Home. She was born in Lakeland, Florida, September 30, 1934, to Felton and Beatrice Spikes. She had lived in Ridgeland and Hilton Head, SC, for many years moving to Reidsville and Ludowici several years ago. She was retired from Flash Foods as a Store Manager and was of the Baptist faith. She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Vernon Kersey; brothers, Wayne Spikes, Bobby Spikes, Harry Spikes.
She is survived by her sons and daughters - in - law, Larry and Kathy Kersey of Ludowici, Danny and Vickie Kersey of Glennville; sisters, Eilleen Willis, Libby Willis, Nadine Toler, all of Reidsville; sisters - in - law, Mary Groover and Nancy Spikes of Reidsville; five grandchildren, six great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral Services were held at 3:00 p.m., Tuesday, March 30, 2010, at the Chapel of Brannen Kennedy Funeral Home with Rev. William Prince and Rev. David Hagan officiating. Burial was in Reidsville City Cemetery.
Pallbearers: Chrystal Kersey Floyd, Patrick Floyd, Chris Carter, Harry Spikes, Matthew Shank, Tony Willis.

Larry Moore, 77

Larry Moore, 77, passed away Tuesday, March 23, 2010, at Carl Vinson VA Medical Center in Dublin. Larry was born in Wadley, Georgia, August 27, 1932, to Charlie and Della Harrell Moore. He had lived in Manchester and Sylvania for many years. He was in the U.S. Marines serving in the Korean War with Dog Company 10th Infantry. He was retired from CSX Railroad with 40 years of service and a member of First Baptist Church of Manchester. He is preceded in death by his parents, Charlie and Della Moore, and a daughter, Jennifer Lynn Moore.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Charlene Dasher Moore of Sylvania; children, Debra Moore (Ken) of Dothan, AL, Eddie Moore (Dana) of Dublin, GA; brothers, James L. Hardy (Auduey) of Cherokee Village, AK, John Howard Moore (Betty) of Orlando, FL; sisters, Jane Godbee of Sardis, GA, Helen Toler (Bill) of Rincon, Meredith Green of Pembroke; grandchildren, Ashley, Leann and Conner; several nieces and nephews also survive.
Graveside Funeral Services were held at 3:00 p.m. Friday, March 26, 2010, at Glennville City cemetery with Military Honors. Rev. Mike Howard officiated.
Pallbearers: Gerald Ward, Terry Bloom, Vernon Miller, Terry Dasher, Lane Dasher, Lee Durrence.

Dr. William “Bill” A. Norton, Jr., 72

Dr. William “Bill” A. Norton, Jr., 72, passed away Saturday, March 27, 2010, at Ogeechee Area Hospice. Born in Atlanta, Georgia, he was the son of the late William Arnold Norton, Sr. and Bessie Benfield Norton. He graduated from Campbell County High School in Fairburn, GA, and attended Young Harris College before joining the United States Navy. After four years in service to his country, he continued his education, ultimately receiving his doctorate in Educational Psychology from the University of Georgia.
During his early career he served as a school principal and director of several regional education programs. He was director of the Pineland Mental Health, Developmental Disabilities and Addictive Diseases Services for 20 years. After his retirement, he returned to education as a school psychologist for the Tattnall County Board of Education, in addition to doing other consulting work.
In his later years, he pursued his passions in art, antique collecting and travel. He found pleasure in visiting with and collecting art from regional folk artists, including Georgians Howard Finster and Willie Tarver. His unique travels throughout the United States brought him enjoyment and fond memories.
His international service travels included destinations such as Australia, Costa Rica, Zimbabwe, Easter Island, Ireland, Mongolia, and India, where he worked with Mother Teresa and the Dalai Lama.
Survivors include his wife, Nancy Bland Norton of Metter; two daughters, Wichelle Anne Norton of Milledgeville and Wallenda “Wendy” Anne Norton of Greensboro; step - son, Matthew C. Towers (Dana) of Seattle, WA; sister, Margurette Norris (Jerry) of Washington, DC; sister - in - law, Polly Porter of Metter; a niece and nephews, Etaine, Brendan and Connor Norris.
Memorial services were held 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, March 30, 2010, at the Metter United Methodist Church with Rev. Whit Byram officiating.

Angel Sanchez, 22

Angel Sanchez, 22, died Sunday, March 21, 2010, in a drowning accident in Tattnall County. He moved to Tattnall County in 1998 from Mexico and was working for Mike and Travis Farms of Collins. Angel was known for his smile and being a jokester. He attended the Holy Family Catholic Church in Metter.
Survivors are his adopted family, Pablo and Josie Cruz of Collins, Sandra Cruz of Metter, Josie Cruz Moreno of Dade City, FL, Paul Cruz, David Cruz and Diana Cruz all of Collins and Jose Cruz of Lyons.
The Funeral Mass will be conducted Saturday at 1:30 p.m. at Kennedy Funeral Home with Father John Brown officiating. Burial will be in the Sunlight cemetery in Cobbtown. Pallbearers will be David Cruz, Felix Galvez, Jesus Jimenez, Bonifilio Mendoza, Melesio Mendez and Jose Cruz.
Kennedy Funeral Home, Cobbtown Chapel, was incharge of the arrangements.

Louise Crain Banks, 89

Louise Crain Banks, 89, died Monday, May 10, 2010. The North Carolina native had lived in Glennville since 1998. She was a homemaker and member of Little Rock Baptist Church.
She is survived by her brothers and sisters in law, Henry Crain (Wanda) of Gastonia, NC, Cecil Crain (JaNell) of Rutherfordton, NC and Edward Crain (Juanita) of Asheville, NC and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be Thursday, May 12, 2010, at Brannen - Kennedy Funeral Home. Graveside funeral services will follow at 11:30 a.m., at Little Rock Baptist Church cemetery with Rev. Jimmy Bargeron officiating.

Morgan R. Gibson, 80

Morgan R. Gibson, age 80 passed away Wednesday, May 5, 2010, at his residence under the care of his family and Ogeechee Area Hospice.
Mr. Morgan was an Evans County native and lived in Claxton for most of his life. He was employed in the maintenance department at Claxton Poultry and retired after 20 years. He enjoyed spending time with his family, loved riding his motorcycle, fishing and gardening.
He is survived by his wife, Daisy Gibson; two daughters, Sarah Gibson of Claxton, and Rhonda Smith of Swansboro, NC; two step - daughters, Gloria Doyle of Bloomingdale and Shirley Brannen of Jesup; step - sons, Terry Dean Winters of Greenville, SC, Chad Lee Winters of Beaufort, SC, Etwindle Bowen, Austin Landon both of Jesup, Richard Hargett of Beaufort, SC; two sisters, Margaret Sikes and Barbara Nell Hodge both of Pembroke, and numerous nieces, nephews, grandchildren and great - grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Friday, May 7, 2010 from the Glennville Chapel of Bradley B. Anderson Funeral Home with Rev. Jimmy Bargeron officiating. Interment followed at Brewton cemetery in Hagan. Pallbearers were Jesse Winters, Jaime Winters, Morgan Eldred, John Rushing, Jason Cooler, and Greg Threatt.
Bradley B. Anderson Funeral Home, Glennville Chapel served the Gibson family.

Johnie Harold “Harry” Knight, 94

Johnie Harold “Harry” Knight, 94, died peacefully at his residence in Glennville on Sunday, May 9, 2010. He was born March 19, 1916, in Tattnall County and was a lifelong resident. He served in the U.S. Marine Corp and retired in 1978 from Stewart’s IGA in Reidsville after 17 years. He was a member and deacon of Glennville First Christian Church for over 50 years. He was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Janie Griffin Knight; parents, Joe and Elizabeth Sands Knight; brothers, Buford Knight and Billy Knight; sisters, Val Blount and Denta Leona Wasson.
He is survived by sons and daughters - in - law, Don and Barbara Knight of Yule, Florida
David and Meta Knight of Glennville, Lindy and Becky Knight of Madisonville, KY,
Steve and Tonya Knight of Glennville; daughters and son - in - law, Faye Blocker and Cindy Knight of Glennville, and Debbie and Larry Houston of Milledgeville; sister and brother - in - law, Modena and Reggie Collins of Statesboro; 17 grandchildren, 21 great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services were held Wednesday, May 12, 2010, at the First Christian Church of Glennville with Rev. Wendell Miller and Bro. Lindy Knight officiating. Burial followed at the Glennville City Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Bradd Blocker, John Blocker, Scott Blocker, Don Knight Jr., Michael Knight, Ben Houston, Moses Knight, Joseph Knight and Steve Knight Jr.
Remembrances may be made to the charity of ones choice.
