Loree Driggers Mosley, 84, passed away Monday, May 10, 2010, at Ogeechee Area Hospice In - Patient Center in Statesboro. The Toombs County native had lived in this area most of her life. She was a homemaker and member of Harmony United Methodist Church. Her joy in life was taking care of others.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Wade Mosley; daughters, Mary Ann Ray and Wendy Mosley and sons, Larry Mosley and John Mosley.
She is survived by her children, Gail and Sammy Hendrix of Glennville and Delta and Dell Rogers of Glennville; sisters, Linda Fitzgerald of Hampton, LaJan Reading of Alexandria, VA; brothers, LeRoy Rush of Glennville and Bill Rush of Austell; 11 grandchildren, 15 great grandchildren and one great grandchild.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, May 12, 2010, at 3 p.m. at Brannen - Kennedy Funeral Home with Rev. Kenny Edwards officiating. Burial followed in Harmony United Methodist Church Cemetery.
Active pallbearers were Mark Hendrix, Shane Hendrix, Billy Pearson, Dean Pearson, Russell Pearson and Josh Gamblin. Honorary pallbearers were Jeffrey Sapp, Marquette Waters, Mark Waters, J.T. Driggers, Jan Baker and Joey Waters.
Brannen - Kennedy Funeral Home, Glennville Chapel, was in charge of the arrangements.

Penny Lynn Avery Peterson, 40

Penny Lynn Avery Peterson, 40, of Statesboro, GA, died Monday, May 10, 2010, at her residence.
She was born in Killeen, Texas, was a homemaker and of the Church of God faith. She is survived by her mother, Mary Helen Keen Ferguson of Statesboro; father, William Louis Avery Jr. of Collins; husband, Tony Lee Peterson of Dover, GA; two daughters, Kayla Danielle Peterson and fiancé, Mark Kitchens of Garfield, GA and Kaitlyn Denise Peterson of Dover, GA; four sisters and brothers - in - law, Tonya Michelle and Gustavo Torres of Collins, Leanne and Adam Thigpen of Statesboro, Barbara Gail Martinez of Dover, GA and Brittany Nicole Avery of Mason City, IA; two brothers, Anthony Wayne Ferguson of Augusta and Richard Allen Ferguson of Sylvania; two grandchildren, Michael Lee Ray Peterson and Alyssa Lynn Marie Kitchens; special nieces, Kandi Avery - Millen and Kristen Avery - Millen, both of Statesboro and Grace Lynneve Avery - Coursey and other nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held Friday, May 14, 2010, at 11 a.m., at Thompson - Strickland - Waters Funeral Home Chapel with family members officiating. Burial will be at a later date.

Irma Jean Holland Purvis, 75

Irma Jean Holland Purvis, 75, passed away Friday, May 7, 2010, at St. Joseph Hospital. The Tattnall County native had lived in this area all of her life. She was a homemaker, wife, loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She was a member of Cedar Creek Primitive Baptist Church and attended Mendes Baptist Church. She is preceded in death by her husband, Truett Purvis, a daughter, Faye Purvis Anderson, sons - in - law, Royce Anderson, and Alan Purcell.
She is survived by daughters and sons in law, Patsy and Kerry Chapman, and Linda and Randy Bradley all of Glennville;; sisters and brother - in - law, Ina Mae Holland of Savannah, Janice and Jerry Sapp of Darien; brothers and sisters - in - law, Gordon and Phyllis Holland of Richmond Hill, Merrill and Carolyn Holland of Savannah, and Ronnie and Mae Holland of Collins; grandchildren, Alana and Timmy Waters, Walt and Wes Purcell, Lawrence and Lance Bradley, and Alexis Anderson; step - grandchildren, Renee and Keith Dixon, and Ron and Julie Anderson; great grandchildren, Kamryn and Hadden Waters; step great grandchildren, Logan and Hunter Dixon, Avery, Zachary, and Lindsay Anderson Several nieces and nephews also survive,
Funeral Services were held, Monday, May 10, 2010, at the Chapel of Brannen Kennedy Funeral Home, with Elder Tom Deal and Rev. Carl Ledbetter officiating. Burial followed in Mendes Baptist Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Bernard Purvis, Roy Purvis, Randy Purvis, Jerrell Purvis, Fred Purvis, and Jonathon Holland

April Williams Rockett, 28

April Williams Rockett, 28, went to live with the Lord Monday, May 10, 2010 with her family by her side and after battling a courageous battle with cancer. Her son Anthony Nolan Rockett preceded her in death on December 17, 2009. April was a 2000 graduate of Jenkins High School. She graduated Magna Cum Laude from Armstrong Atlantic State University where she received her Bachelor’s degree in Health Sciences and also received a Bachelor’s degree in Business. She also attended Georgia Southern University. April formerly worked for the Village Walk Pharmacy, Savannah Plastic Surgery, and was currently working for Cardiology Associates of Savannah as a Medical Secretary. In addition to her son she was preceded in death by her maternal grandparents, Buford and Yvonne Anderson West, her paternal grandparents, Herbert and Beatrice Curl Williams, and her uncle, Gary West.
She is survived by her husband, Charles “Tony” Rockett, of Savannah, father, Herbert (Dale) Williams, and Marie White, of Savannah, her mother, Dale West Williams, of Savannah; a brother, D.J. Williams and his wife, Nicole, of Guyton; several nieces and nephews, many other relatives and friends.
A Memorial Service to celebrate her life was held 12:00 p.m., Wednesday, May 12, 2010, at Fox and Weeks Funeral Directors, Hodgson Chapel with The Reverend Hugo Hammond officiating. Private burial will be held in Reidsville, GA.
In lieu of flowers remembrances may be made to The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society, GA Chapter, 3715 Northside Parkway, 400 Norhthcreek, Atlanta, 30327, or to St. Judes Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.

Arlie W. Tucker, 69

Arlie W. Tucker, 69, passed away Saturday, May 8, 2010, at Serenity Place Hospice in Dublin. The Coffee County native had lived in Milledgeville and Dexter for many years. He was retired with 30 years of service from the Georgia Department of Corrections as an Institutional Engineer. He was a 32nd degree Mason, a member of Dexter Lodge # 340 F&AM, and attended Dublin Church of Christ. He is preceded in death by his parents, James and Ellen Tucker, and a brother, Odis Tucker.
He is survived by his wife, Bobbie Flowers Tucker of Dexter; son, Tony Tucker of Milledgeville; sister, Lillian Dykes of Sanford, FL; grandchildren, Stacey and Johnnie Dentino and Kyle Tucker, all of Milledgeville; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services were held Tuesday, May 11, at the Chapel of Brannen Kennedy Funeral Home with Minister Davis Lemmons and Minister Alan Wright officiating. Burial followed in Watermelon Creek Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Paul Callaway, Hank Dykes, Jim Hendrix, Robbie Tucker, Bobby Tucker, and George Demetris Tucker.

William Michael (Winkle) Collins, 53

Mr. William Michael (Winkle) Collins, 53, of Glennville, passed away at Friday, April 23, 2010. He was a native of Tattnall County and a 1975 graduate of Glennville High School. He was employed at the Glennville Hatchery in Glennville. He was a former member of the First Christian Church in Glennville, GA.
He was preceded in death by his parents Fred Collins and Reba Campton; a sister - in - law, Shirley Ann Tootle Santiego; and three brothers - in - law, Leon and Terry Tootle and Norris Bell.
He is survived by his wife, Patricia T. Collins of Glennville; daughter, Mandy Royer of Duluth, GA, grandson, Max Royer of Duluth, GA, god - son, Jarvis LIndsey of Glennville; step - mother, Mrs. Sarah Swindell; brother, Fred Collins Jr., and two sisters, Elvie Powell and Sarah Kathy Collins all of Glennville; niece, Lisa Duffany and nephews, Barry Braddock and Chris Collins, all of Glennville; one uncle, Edsel Sikes of Glennville; his mother - in - law, Mrs. Mildred Tootle Lee of Glennville; and his father - in - law, Printis Tootle of Trenton, NJ; two sisters - in - law, Equindia Young and Carlotta Bell, both of Trenton, NJ; two brothers - in - law, Jesses Tootle of Dover, DE, and James Wesly Tootle of Cleveland, OH; his best friend (E - Rob) Ervin Roberts of Glennville, and a host of other relatives and friends.
Wake services were held Saturday, May 1, 2010, at the chapel of King and Sons Funeral Home in Glennville. The burial ceremony was private.
King and Sons Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Juliene Blocker Deal Hagan, “Betty, ” 78

Juliene Blocker Deal Hagan, “Betty, ” 78, passed away Tuesday, April 27, 2010, at Savannah Cottage. The Tattnall County native had lived most of her adult life in the Savannah area. She was retired with 25 years of service as a Cafeteria Manager with the Chatham County Public School System. She attended Southside Christian Church and Bull Street Baptist Church in Savannah. She was an excellent cook and loved flowers and gardening.
She was preceded in death by her parents, D.W. Blocker and Susie Mae Warren Blocker; brother, Alfred Blocker; sisters, Joan Morgan and Laura Deal and husband, John Lawton Deal.
She is survived by her children, Nancy and John Birkheimer of Savannah, John and Karen Deal of Richmond Hill and Brenda and Mike Carn of Hilton Head, SC; grandchildren, Anton Withington (Tammy), Michael Carn (Natalie), Devon Carn, Lauren Butler (Troy), Adam Deal and Heather Birkheimer; great grandchildren, Thurston Withington and Sydey Butler.
Funeral services were held Thursday, April 29, 2010, from the Chapel of Brannen - Kennedy Funeral Home, with Reverend Ramon Hernandez officiating. Burial followed in Harmony United Methodist Church cemetery.
Pallbearers were Adam Deal, Michael Carn, Anton Withington, James Deal, Derrel Deal and Buddy Deal.
Thank you to the caregivers at Savannah Cottage, who so kindly and tenderly watched over her these last few months. Thank you, also, to her Hospice Savannah Support Team who added to the loving care she received. Remembrances to: Hospice Savannah, P.O. Box 13190, Savannah, GA, 31416.

Joshua Len Herrington, 27

Joshua Len Herrington, 27, passed away Wednesday, April 28, 2010, at The Doctors Hospital of Tattnall. The Toombs County native had lived in Hinesville and Reidsville most of his life. He was employed with Dyess Heating and Air.
He is preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Jim Bowen; and paternal grandfather, Devon Herrington.
He is survived by his parents, Len and Debra Herrington of Midway; fiancé, Nicole Jarriel of Reidsville; children, Chase and Jaedin Jarriel and Braylen Herrington; brothers and sisters - in - law, Zack and Pam Bowen of Savannah, Jacob and Abby Herrington of Hampton SC, Johnathan and Samantha Herrington of Savannah, and Timothy Herrington of Savannah; paternal grandmother, Doris Nichols of Jesup; maternal grandmother, Annie B. Bowen of Evans, GA; special niece, Brittany Bowen; and several aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.
A memorial funeral service was held Friday, at the Chapel of Brannen Kennedy Funeral Home with Pastor Brian Trent officiating.

Barnie Mae Johnson Porter, 100

Mrs. Barnie Mae Johnson Porter, 100 years old, of Glennville, passed away Saturday, May 1, 2010, at her residence. She was the daughter of the late Mr. Miles Bradley and Mrs. Henrietta Rivers Johnson. She was born on March 29, 1910, in Wadmalaw Island, SC. She was one of nine children and moved to Georgia in 1933, met and married (who proceed her in death) Robert O’Neal Porter. Of this union four children were born.
She attended high school at the Avery Institute in Charleston, SC. She is a graduate of Savannah State College and Clark Atlanta College, receiving a Master’s degree. She was an educator in the Long County School System for 46 years until her retirement. During this time she was dedicated to serving God as an ardent and devoted member of St. James A.M.E. Church, serving as Sunday School Teacher, Steward Board member, Missionary Board member, Church Secretary, Church Trustee and a member of the Order of the Eastern Star #162 in Glennville, Ga.
She is survived by her children: Robert M. Porter of Savannah, Mrs. Doris Peggie Warren of Ladson, SC, Mrs. Laure P. Stephens of Atlanta, Albert O’Neal Porter of Glennville, Mrs. Afreida Johnson Jackson of Wadmalaw Island, SC, Lonnie Johnson and Dwight Washington both of Glennville; one sister, Mrs. Harriett Brown of New York, NY; and a host of grandchildren and other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, May 8, 2010, at 11:00 a.m. at St. James A.M.E. Church in Glennville, with burial in the Sandhill Cemetery. The wake ceremony will be held Friday, May 7, 2010, at St. James A.M.E. Church in Glennville, Ga. from 6:45 - 8:00 p.m.
King and Son’s Funeral Home of Glennville is in charge of arrangements.
