Emanuel Ryan III, 49

Mr. Emanuel Ryan III, 49, of Hazlehurst, GA, passed away Saturday, April 24, 2010, at Memorial Health in Savannah, Ga.
He served his country by entering the U.S. Army and serving two terms of active duty, receiving an honorable discharge. He furthered his education at Temple University and Big Bend College.
He is survived by his wife Mrs. Valarie Ryan of Augusta, GA; children, Keisha, Sherea, Zakiyyah, Wadira, Emanuel IV, and Samuel Ryan; grandchildren, Nakevis Ryan, Nyeisha Phigpen, Nasir Sowler, Nyeemah Elliott, Kaylah Brantley, Kahlia Brantley, Kahlis Brantley, Solmir Ryan, and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held Friday, April 30, 2010, at the Georgia Veterans cemetery in Glennville.
King and Son’s Funeral Home of Glennville was in charge of arrangements.

Audie McClure Beshers, 93

Mrs. Audie McClure Beshers, age 93, of Haralson County, was born June 9, 1916, and passed away Saturday, June 5, 2010. She was retired from Lockheed Martin Company and she was a charter member of Community Baptist Church. She had enjoyed gardening for as many years as she physically could. Mrs. Beshers is preceded in death by her parents, Duff and Emma McClure, 12 siblings, two sons, Eldridge Beshers and David Beshers, five grandchildren, Doug Beshers, Andy Elliott, Jennifer Watts, Dana Dorough and Nancy Dorough.
She is survived by two sons and daughters - in - law, Weldon and Peggy Beshers of Calhoun, Johnny and Glynis Beshers of Tallapoosa; three daughters and sons - in - law, Marie and Joe Watts of Tallapoosa, Joyce and Victor Letourneau of Las Vegas, Janet and Tom Elliott of Reidsville, and daughter - in - law, Gail Beshers; grandchildren, Ronnie and Shari Beshers of Cumming, Mike and Mary Beshers of Cartersville, Robert Beshers of LaFayette, Tina Beshers of Pensacola, Christy Dorough of Las Vegas, Steve Dorough of Pennsylvania, Alan and Amy Beshers of Powder Springs, and Jason and Nicole Elliott of Brunswick; great - grandchildren, Tiffany Violick, Nicholas Violick, John Beshers, Ethan Beshers, Luke Beshers, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral service were held Tuesday, June 8, 2010, in the Carmichael Funeral Home Chapel of Smyrna, GA. Rev. Tom Elliott of Reidsville officiated. Interment followed at Georgia Memorial Park.
Carmichael Funeral Home of Smyrna is in charge of the arrangements.

James Boyette, 84

James Boyette, 84, of the Cedar Creek Community died Monday, June 7, 2010, at his home. The Tattnall County native moved back to Collins 20 years ago after living in Bloomingdale for many years. He was a retired cabinetmaker for Woodcraft Cabinet Shop in Savannah, a farmer and a gardener. James loved entertaining neighbors sitting under his pecan tree. He attended the Cedar Creek Primitive Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Virginia Sharpe Boyette; a son, Ricky Boyette of Bloomingdale; a daughter and son - in - law; Phyllis and Dave Shaefer of Richmond Hill; a brother, Fred Boyette of Bloomingdale; a sister, Amy Demas of Savannah and a granddaughter and her husband, Connie and Gary Davis of Pooler.
Graveside funeral services were held Wednesday, June 9, 2010, at the Cedar Creek Primitive Baptist Church cemetery with Elder Tom Deal officiating. Pallbearers were Lavanda Lynn, Wendell Lynn, Ronnie Holland, Chris Creech, Jimmy Boyette and Johnny Myrick. Remembrances may be made to the Cedar Creek Primitive Baptist Church, 2585 Cedar Creek Church Rd., Collins, GA 30421.
Kennedy Funeral Homes, Cobbtown Chapel, was in charge of the arrangements.

John L. “J.L” Carter Sr., 73

Mr. John L. “J.L” Carter Sr., age 73, of Glennville and formerly of Vidalia, died Sunday, June 6, 2010, in the Candler Hospital in Savannah after an extended illness. He was a native of Appling County, moved to Toombs County in 1956, to Glennville in 1980, and returned to Toombs County in 2008. He retired after 40 years from Hazlehurst Manufacturing in Vidalia, and Glennville Lingerie Manufacturing. He was a member of the Watermelon Creek Baptist Church and the Adult Sunday School Class in Glennville. He was an avid sportsman, and was preceded in death by his parents, Monroe and Frankie Mae Carter, three sisters, Nancy Mae Taylor, Pauline Johnson, and Doris Bivsecker, and two brothers, Jack Carter and J.W. Carter.
Mr. Carter is survived by one daughter; Judy Rushing and husband Harrison of Vidalia; one son, John L. Carter Jr. and wife, Patrice, of Baxley; two sisters, Frankie “Tootsie” Poore of Hazlehurst and Glenease Baughu of Ocala, FL; one brother, J.C. Carter and wife Pat of Hazlehurst; four grandchildren, Jennifer and husband Neal, Jason and wife Regina, Hunter, and Sunshine; three great - grandchildren, Mary Claire, Savannah, and Madaline, and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, June 9 in the chapel of Ronald V. Hall Funeral Home with Reverend Steve Miller and Reverend Dane Glisson officiating. Interment followed in Lakeview Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers were Trevor Smith, Zake Smith, Joe Banks, Ricky Powell, Billy Merritt, Tommy Sasser, Bill James, Danny Ray Allmond, and Freddie Wolfe.
Those desiring may make memorial contributions to Watermelon Creek Baptist Church, 8882 Hwy. 144, Glennville, GA 30427.
Ronald V. Hall Funeral Home of Vidalia was in charge of arrangements.

Doris Vivian Groover, 83

Doris Vivian Groover, 83, died Sunday, June 6, 2010, at Glenvue Nursing Home. The Tattnall County native had lived in this area all of her life and was a homemaker and member of Smyrna Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents and five siblings.
Survivors include: three nephews, Dean Groover of St. Mary’s, John Groover of Ludowici and Bart Groover of Camp LeJeune, NC; brother, W. A. Groover of St. Petersburg, FL; sisters, OraLee Taylor of Marietta and Janie Todd of Glennville, and five grandsons, four great - grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, June 9, 2010, at Smyrna Baptist Church with Dr. Charles “Bucky” Strickland and Rev. Edward Brannen officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
Active pallbearers were Robert Driggers Jr., Michael Groover, Andy Groover, Brent Driggers, Paul Strickland, and Cliff Moody.
Honorary pallbearers were members of the Senior Adult Sunday School Class of Smyrna Baptist Church.
Brannen - Kennedy Funeral Home, Glennville Chapel, was in charge of the arrangements.

Willie Henry “Bill” Harris, 60

Mr. Willie Henry “Bill” Harris was born on July 12, 1949, to Mr. Vonnie Harris Sr. and Mrs. Mildred Mincey Harris in Reidsville, GA. He grew up in rural Tattnall County, GA, and attended the public schools there. As an adult, Bill was employed as a correctional officer with the Georgia Department of Corrections. His last occupation was that of a truck owner – operator. Driving trucks gave him the opportunity to provide for his family while doing something that he thoroughly enjoyed. Over a period of time, he purchased several trucks and drove long and short hauls for many years before his health failed. Bill entered into eternal rest on Friday, May 28, 2010, at his residence in Swainsboro, GA.
He was preceded in death by his father. He leaves to cherish his memory his lovely wife, Theresa Strobridge Harris of Swainsboro, GA; one son, Lontavius J. McClary of Hinesville, GA; three daughters, Lillian Lee and Gwen Harris both of Atlanta, GA and Asprid L. Parker of Vidalia, GA; his mother, Mildred M. Harris of Reidsville, GA; his mother - in - law, Vetter M. Strobridge of Nunez, GA; three grandchildren, Jhari L. McClary, Ahdé H. Lee, and La’Maria S. Parker; five brothers, Percy (Idell) Harris, Theodore (Debra) Harris and Theron (Eartha) Harris, all of Reidsville, GA; Vonnie Harris Jr., of Vidalia, GA and Milton (Loretta) Harris of Tampa, FL; three sisters, Veronica (Morris) Hall of Miami, FL, Effie Harris and Aretha (Billy) Usher, all of Reidsville, GA; brothers and sisters - in - law, George III (Eva) Strobridge, Marcell Strobridge, Janie (Lenard) Richards and Christy (Jerry) Love, all of Nunez, GA, Eddie (Cheryl) Strobridge of Soperton, GA, Ricardo (Tonya) Strobridge of Ridgeland, SC, Hubert (Florine) McNear, Freddy (Daphne) Strobridge, Joyce (Morris) Williams and Brenda Strobridge, all of Swainsboro, GA, Vivian (William) Allen of Tyrone, GA, Lorraine (Kenneth) Russell of Hampton, GA, Charlene (Kelvin) Apparicio of Hephzibah, GA, Angela (John) Hines of Dublin, GA, Monica (Timothy) Bishop of Statesboro, GA and Sharee (Jereto) Henderson of Decatur, GA; a host of uncles, aunts, nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.
Funeral services were held Saturday, June 5, 2010, at 1 p.m. at St. Phillip Missionary Baptist Church in Swainsboro, with Pastor Ellis Strobridge presiding. Burial followed at Ogden Mills cemetery in Reidsville, GA.
Active pallbearers were members of the Georgia Department of Corrections, Reidsville State Prison and Corrections Security Offiers. Honorary Pallbearers were his brothers and brothers - in - law.
Vidalia Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Mathadeen Durrence Kicklighter, 79

Mrs. Mathadeen Durrence Kicklighter, 79, passed away Monday, June 7, 2010, at her son’s residence in Guyton. She was a homemaker and a member of Beards Creek Primitive Baptist Church. She wrote poetry, enjoyed crocheting and tending to her flower garden. She was a God - sent angel to her mother and to all who knew her. She was known by her family, friends and neighbors for her kindness, gentleness, and being available to meet anyone needs. She is preceded in death by her husband, Elder Jesse Allen Kicklighter, Sr. and a son, James Kevin Kicklighter; brother, Robert Theron Durrence and her father Elder J.W. Durrence, Sr.
She is survived by, her mother, Omena Toy Tootle Durrence of Glennville; son and daughter in law, Jesse Allen Kickligher, Jr. and Abella Maloly - on Kicklighter of Guyton; daughters and son in law, Gail Wannette Kicklighter of Glennville, Lolita Kicklighter North - Owens and her husband Jack Owens of Tucson, AZ; four adopted daughters, Ann Tootle, Daria Lynn Hellams, Alissa Hellams and Juanita Yell; two brothers, Jesse William Durrence, Jr. and Jackey Franklin Durrence both of Glennville; grandchildren, Kenneth Allen Mitchell, Jr., Richard Gene Hammock, Jesse Earl Hammock, Shelley Anne Shea and Shawn Walter Shea, Sean Michael North and Holli Amanda North, Jessica Elayne Bluethmann and Gregory Lawrence Bluethmann, Justin Allen Kicklighter and Tracey Anne Kicklighter, Joseph Matthew Kicklighter, Jabella Maloloy - on Kicklighter; ten great grandchildren, several nieces and nephews also survive.
Visitation will begin 5:00pm Thursday from the Glennville Chapel of Bradley B. Anderson Funeral Home.
Funeral Services will be conducted 11:00am Friday June 11, 2010 from the Beards Creek Primitive Baptist Church with Elders WH Durrence and Moses Toole officiating. Interment will follow in the Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Kenneth Allen Mitchell, Jr., Richard Gene Hammock, Jesse Earl Hammock, Justin Allen Kicklighter, Joseph Matthew Kicklighter and Marshall Carlos Durrence.
Flowers may be accepted or memorials may be given to Hospice of Savannah.
Bradley B. Anderson Funeral Home, Glennville Chapel is serving the Kicklighter family.

Martha Beasley Williams, 81

Martha Beasley Williams, 81, passed away on May 15, 2010, at Henry General Hospital. She was born March 29, 1929, in Reidsville, GA, daughter of Maggie Cheney Beasley and Samuel C. Beasley. She moved to the Atlanta area after graduating from Reidsville High School in 1946, where she worked at Davison - Paxon Department Store and later in the banking business. She married Virgil Williams, now deceased, of Atlanta in 1949 and became a homemaker and the mother of three daughters. She took an early retirement from First National Bank of Atlanta during the time of the First National and Wachovia merger. After retirement she did volunteer work in Clayton County and at Clayton General Hospital. She was a volunteer pianist and organist at Forest Park United Methodist Church, later moving her membership to Locust Grove United Methodist Church.
She enjoyed working in her flower garden and she loved animals, having numerous well - loved pets across the years.
She is survived by daughters and son - in - laws, Virginia and Donald Jones of Snellville, GA, Jean and Philip Long of Locust Grove, GA and Carol Varner of Athens, GA and one step - daughter, Jimmie Chapman; ten grandchildren and one step - grandchild, numerous great - grandchildren and one twin sister, Mary Beasley.
Pallbearers were grandsons, Stevie Backus, Brian Long, Allen Long, Tim Long, Jeremy Varner and Jack Varner.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, May 19, 2010, at Haisten Funeral Home in McDonough, GA, with Rev. Bill Curington, officiating. Burial followed in the Forest Hill Memorial Park in Forest Park.

Katie L. Clay, 59

Katie L. Clay, 59, was born on July 11, 1950, in Tattnall County, Georgia, to the late Wilford and Maggie L. Clay. Three siblings proceeded her in death, Rosa M. Collins, Wilma C. McKinnon and Rev. Freddie L. Clay.
Katie attended Tattnall County Industrial School for one year and received special training at Tattnall - Evans school in Manassas, Georgia.
On Wednesday, May 12, 2010, she departed this life at The Doctors Hospital in Reidsville, Georgia.
She leaves to mourn a brother, James E. (Trendle) Clay Sr., of Reidsville, GA., a sister - in - law, Joyce Ann Clay of Reidsville, GA; an aunt, Eula C. Dugger of Collins, GA; a half - sister, Glenda Grimes of Miami, FL; several nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
Pallbearers were nephews.
Funeral services were held Friday, May 14, 2010, at 11:00 a.m. at St. Phillips Missionary Baptist Church, with Dr. Rev. L. Perry McNeal, presiding. Interment followed in Sandhill Cemetery, Reidsville.
Harper’s Funeral Home in Claxton was in charge of arrangements.
