Alvin I. Collins, age 58

Alvin I. Collins, age 58 passed away Wednesday, May 26, 2010, at Memorial Medical Center in Savannah. He had lived in Tattnall County most of his life and served in the U.S. Coast Guard. He retired from the Ft. Stewart fire department after 32 years of service. In his spare time, he loved to fish, hunt and play golf. He was a member of Glennville First Christian Church. He is preceded in death by his father, Gene Collins.
He is survived by his wife of 29 years, Libby Collins of Reidsville; his mother, Betty J. Collins of Pine Harbor, GA; three daughters and sons - in - law, Rhonda and Kenny Zimmerman of Tallahassee, FL, Lainey and Michael Johnston of Reidsville, and Britton Collins of Reidsville; two grandchildren, Miles and Riley Zimmerman; mother and father - in - law, Mary Kate and Bill Fleming of Darien; and three nephews, Connor, Gibbs, and Will Ryals.
Funeral services were held Saturday, May 29, 2010, from the Glennville Chapel of Bradley B. Anderson Funeral Home with the Reverend Gregg Usry and the Reverend Jack Snellgrove officiating. Interment followed in the Glennville City Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Terry Collins, Lamar Cook, Charles Tillman, Graham Lewis, Ritchie Ryals, Gary Ryals, Kyle Durrence, Dennis Davis. Honorary Pallbearers were employees and retired employees of the Ft. Stewart Fire Department.
Remembrances may be made to Glennville First Christian Church or Pineview Baptist Church.

Mary F. Fountain, 89

Ms. Mary F. Fountain, age 89 passed away Monday May 31, 2010, at her residence under the care of her family and Serenity Hospice. The Toombs County native had lived in Reidsville most of her life. She was a homemaker and loved to cook and take care of her grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband, Mr. O.C. Fountain Jr.; son, James Ronald Fountain; parents, Mr. and Mrs. Luther Yates and a brother, Luther Yates Jr.
She is survived by son and daughter in law, Donald and Mary Fountain of Glennville; daughters and son - in - law, Vickie and Attriss Nail and Lisa Fountain all of Reidsville; brother and sister - in - law, James and Gloria Yates of San Antonio, FL; grandchildren, Ryan (Kristen) Collins, Brooke Collins,
Colt and Devan Fountain all of Reidsville, and Evan and Emily Fountain, both of Glennville; great - grandchildren, Raegan and Olin J. Collins of Reidsville, and several nieces and nephews.
Pallbearsers were, Ryan Collins, Evan Fountain, Colt Fountain and Devan Fountain.
Visitation was held Wednesday with the service following at 11:00 a.m. in the Chapel with Rev. Chester Proctor and Rev. Sterling Bargeron officiating. Interment followed in the Reidsville City Cemetery.
Memorials may be given to Serenity Hospice.

Willie Henry “Mr. Bill” Harris, 60

Willie Henry “Mr. Bill” Harris, 60, passed away Friday, May 28, 2010, at his residence in Swainsboro, GA. He was a native of Tattnall County.
He is survived by his wife, Theresa, of Swainsboro; one son, Lontavious McClary of Hinesville, GA; three daughters, Gwen Harris and Lillian Lee, both of Atlanta and Asprid Parker of Vidalia, GA; five brothers, Percy Harris, Theodore Harris, Theron Harris, all of Reidsville, GA, Vonnie Harris, Jr., of Vidalia, GA and Milton Harris of Tampa, FL; two sisters, Effie Harris and Aretha Usher, both of Reidsville, GA and Veronica Hall of Miami, FL; his mother, Mildred Harris of Reidsville, GA; and four grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, June 5, 2010, at 1 p.m., at St. Phillips Missionary Baptist Church in Swainsboro, GA. Reverend Ronnie Harden will give the Eulogy. Interment will follow in Odgen Mills cemetery in Reidsville, GA. Family will receive friends at the funeral home Friday, June 4, from 6 - 7 p.m.
Vidalia Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Eddie Lee Kennedy, 56

Mr. Eddie Lee Kennedy, 56, of Glennville, passed away Friday, May 29, 2010, at the Ogeechee Area Hospice Center in Statesboro.
He was a member of Greater Zachariah Baptist Church and attended the public schools in Tattnall County. He was the son of the late Mr. Edwood and Lucille Kennedy.
He is survived by a sister, Mrs. Betty (Coleman) McMillan of Glennville; his brother, John Kennedy of Glennville; nieces, Mrs. Sherry (Marshall) Broadhurst of Glennville, and Mrs. Lillian Talley of Athens; nephews, Tellas Kennedy and Perez Staples, both of Glennville, and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, June 5, 2010, at 11:00 a.m. at Greater Zachariah Baptist Church, with burial following in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held Friday at the Chapel of King and Son’s Funeral Home from 11:00 a.m. - 7:00 p.m. Wake from 7:00 - 8:00 at the funeral home.
King and Son’s Funeral Home of Glennville, GA, is in charge of arrangements.

Mother Martha Beasley Williams, 81

Mother Martha Beasley Williams, 81, passed away on May 15, 2010, at Henry General Hospital. She was born March 29, 1929, in Reidsville, GA, daughter of Maggie Cheney Beasley and Samuel C. Beasley. She moved to the Atlanta area after graduating from Reidsville High School in 1946, where she worked at Davison - Paxon Department Store and later in the banking business. She married Virgil Williams, now deceased, of Atlanta in 1949 and became a homemaker and the mother of three daughters. She took an early retirement from First National Bank of Atlanta during the time of the First National and Wachovia merger. After retirement she did volunteer work in Clayton County and at Clayton General Hospital. She was a volunteer pianist and organist at Forest Park United Methodist Church, later moving her membership to Locust Grove United Methodist Church.
She enjoyed working in her flower garden and she loved animals, having numerous well - loved pets across the years.
She is survived by daughters and son - in - laws, Virginia and Donald Jones of Snellville, GA, Jean and Philip Long of Locust Grove, GA and Carol Varner of Athens, GA and one step - daughter, Jimmie Chapman; ten grandchildren and one step - grandchild, numerous great - grandchildren and one twin sister, Mary Beasley.
Pallbearers were grandsons, Stevie Backus, Brian Long, Allen Long, Tim Long, Jeremy Varner and Jack Varner.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, May 19, 2010, at Haisten Funeral Home in McDonough, GA, with Rev. Bill Curington, officiating. Burial followed in the Forest Hill Memorial Park in Forest Park.

Eloise Hackle Bennett, 81

Eloise Hackle Bennett, 81, died Monday, October 23, 2006, at Tattnall Community Hospital. The Toombs County native had lived in the Reidsville area most of her life. She owned and operated The Matador Restaurant in Reidsville and The Bulldog Restaurant in Lyons for many years. She was a member of Friendship Baptist Church and was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Bessie Hackle; husband, Raymond Bennett; and brother, Alben Hackle.

She is survived by her daughter, Robbiette Scott of Reidsville; sisters, Cleta Beth Corley and Barbara Harvey, both of Reidsville, Juliette Durden of Lyons, and Eva Connell of Mt. Vernon; brother, R. N. Hackle, Jr. of Jeffersonville; grandchildren, Brock (Amy) Scott of Statesboro, and Chad Scott of Reidsville; several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral Services were held Wednesday, October 25, 2006, at Brannen - Kennedy Funeral Home, Reidsville Chapel, with Rev. Robert Ferrell officiating. Burial followed in Reidsville City Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Sidney Miles, DeWayne Corley, Greg Hackle, Tony Jacobs, Norm Seibert, Ronnie McCall, and John Cheney.
Brannen - Kennedy Funeral Home, Reidsville Chapel, was in charge of the arrangements.

Helen Meadows Cowart, 86

Mrs. Helen Meadows Cowart, 86, died Tuesday, October 17, 2006, at her home in Reidsville surrounded by her loving family. The daughter of the late Mark Wood Meadows and Ora Belle Mayo Meadows, she was born in Toombs County and lived in the Pine Grove community near Collins for 47 years before moving to Reidsville 18 years ago.
Mrs. Cowart graduated as Valedictorian of the Lyons High School Class of 1936 and attended Georgia Teachers College. She was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution, a former member of the Pine Grove Baptist Church, and a member of the WMU Auxiliary. As a member of the Reidsville United Methodist Church, she served as an honorary member of the RUMC Administrative Board and was a member of the Tommy Thompson Sunday School Class.
Because of her love for sports, Mrs. Helen followed the Tattnall County athletic teams all of her years, and her family, recognizing her advocacy for academic excellence and athletic prowess, endowed the annual Enoch and Helen Cowart Scholarship for an outstanding senior scholar - athlete at Tattnall County High School. She was honored a week ago as the Grand Marshal of the first Tattnall County High School Homecoming Parade.
She was a wonderful homemaker and an avid gardener; and during her children’s years in school, she was an active 4 - H Club volunteer. Staying informed of world affairs was a daily interest to her. A loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend, she left a legacy of her love of God and family. Her last words each time she spoke to her family were, “I love you, and I’m proud of you.” She was preceded in death by her husband, Enoch Manning Cowart; a grandson, Chan Alan Trim; two sisters, Melba Earline Meadows and Mary Wood Meadows Johnson; and two infant siblings.
She is survived by five daughters and sons - in - law, Judith Cowart Bland and James Bland, Jr., of Washington, GA, Carol Cowart Sapp and Larry Sapp of Bonaire, GA, Brenda Cowart Smith and Louie Tietgen Smith of Reidsville, Lisa Cowart Trim and Jackie Trim of Reidsville; Helen Kathryn “Kathy” Cowart Bass and Carl H. “Chuck” Bass, Jr., of Collins; three brothers, Harold Mayo Meadows of Albany, Earl Jackson Meadows of Alma and Mark Eugene Meadows of Charleston, SC; 11 grandchildren, Shannon Enoch Sapp (Karen), Andrea Leigh Sapp Gould (Abe), Kimberly Lynn Sapp Nelson (Josh), Daphne Helena Jarriel, Jason Louie Smith (Cheryllyn), Franklin Clay Trim (Tiffany), Maria Guadalupe Wood (Tele), Julie Lenae Bass Sikes (Shane), Haley Alexis Bass, Misti McLeod and Brittany Danielle Bass; eleven great grandchildren, Macy Waters, Grayson Sawyer Gould, Troy Smith, Joseph Collin Sapp, Parker Manning Sapp, Ila June Gould, Savannah Smith, Maya Serene Gould, Kiley Smith, Chandler Blake Trim, and Caden Shane Sikes.
Funeral services were held Friday, October 20 at 3:30 p.m. at Reidsville United Methodist Church with burial in the Collins Baptist Church Cemetery.
Mrs. Cowart’s grandsons, Shannon Sapp, Clay Trim, Jason Smith, Tele Wood, Josh Nelson and Shane Sikes; and Wesley Toole served as pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers were Mike Collins, Wayman Parker, Rick Coley, the Tommy Thompson Suunday School Class, and past and present Tattnall County athletes.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Enoch and Helen Cowart Scholarship Fund at Tattnall County High School.

Michael Jermaine Hutchins, 25

Michael Jermaine Hutchins, 25, was born June 7, 1981, and died Saturday, October 21, 2006, in Long County. Mr. Hutchins leaves behind many loving relatives including, grandparents, parents, brothers, sisters, uncles, aunts, cousins, nephews, nieces, and friends. He was employed in Winn Army Hospital in the Housekeeping Department, and was a member of the Restoration and Deliverance Ministries in Hinesville, Georgia. Michael was loved by all he leaves behind.
A wake will be at the King and Sons Funeral Home at 508 Martin Luther King Drive, Glennville, GA, at 6:00 p.m. on October 27, 2006. Services will be held at Full Gospel Tabernacle Church of God in Christ, 809 Frank Cochran Drive, Hinesville, GA, at 1:00 p.m. Saturday, October 28, 2006, and burial services will be at St. Thomas cemetery in Ludowici, GA, off Hwy. 301. Please send all flowers and cards to King and Sons Funeral Home.

Roy Hildred Riggs, 81

Roy Hildred Riggs, 81, died Wednesday, October 18, 2006, at his residence after a lengthy illness. The Tattnall County native had lived in Reidsville all of his life. He was a retired poultry farmer, a WWII Army veteran, and a member of Pineview Baptist Church.
He is survived by, his wife, Edna Riggs of Reidsville and sister, Frieda Miller of California.
Funeral services were conducted Friday, October 19, 2006, at Brannen - Kennedy Funeral Home, Reidsville Chapel, with Rev. Gregg Ursy officiating. Burial followed in Pineview Baptist Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers included: Kennon Tatum, Clifford Randall, Jack Robertson, Jeremy Britt, Travis Hutcheson and Wesley Youmans.
Brannen - Kennedy Funeral Home, Reidsville Chapel, was in charge of the arrangements.

George C. Smith, 71

Mr. George C. Smith, 71, passed away early Monday morning at is residence after an extended illness. The Toombs County native had lived in Reidsville all his life. He was retired from Georgia Machine as a machinist and the Georgia National Guard. He was a member of the Reidsville United Methodist Church and was a former member of the Reidsville Jaycees.
He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Maderia Waters Smith of Reidsville; daughter and son - in - law, Pamela and John Harley of Vidalia; two sons and daughter - in - law, Caroll and Darla Smith of Reidsville and David Smith of Glennville; sister and brother - in - law, Freida and J.W. Dixon of Savannah; five grandchildren; one great - grandson; and several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral Services were held on Wednesday, October 25, 2006 in the Chapel of Bradley B. Anderson Funeral Home, with Reverend David Hudson and Reverend Doug Walker officiating. Interment followed in the Reidsville City Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Gerald White, Jeffery Barnard, Troy Trull, Jasper Phillips, Tony Smith, and Ron Waters.
Bradley B. Anderson Funeral Home was in charge of the funeral arrangements.
