Joseph Lester Brown, 89

Mr. Joseph Lester Brown, 89, of the Evergreen Community near Cobbtown, died surrounded by his family at his home Tuesday, November 21, 2006. He was born in Bulloch County, the son of Eli and Alice Braswell Brown and lived most of his life in Tattnall County. He was a farmer and an U.S. Army veteran, serving his country from August 1938 to August 1945. He was a Technical Sergeant in Company B of the 10th Infantry Training Battalion. During WWII he participated in the Normandy Campaign and the Northern France Campaign, where he was wounded in action. He received a Bronze Star, Purple Heart, Army Good Conduct Medal, Combat Infantryman Badge, and Expert Badge with Rifle Bar. He also received the American Defense Service Metal, European African Middle Eastern Service Medal with two Bronze stars, and WWII Victory Medal. In 1946 following his discharge from the US Army he settled on a farm in the Evergreen Community where he had since resided. He enjoyed fishing, gardening, and sharing abundant harvests with family and friends. He served the Lord faithfully. He was a member of Evergreen Baptist Church since 1950 and served as a deacon since 1965, and was also a former Sunday school director and teacher, and former song leader. He was preceded in death by an infant daughter.
He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Estelle Oliver Brown; daughter and son - in - law, Barbara B. Slater and Glen C. Slater, of the Evergreen Community; grandson and granddaughter - in - law: G. Cleveland Slater, Jr. and Janie Mercer Slater, of Alpharetta; grandson, Stanley H. Slater, of Roanoke, VA; and two great - grandchildren, Carolina and Joseph Slater
Funeral services were conducted Saturday, November 25, 2006, at Morgan Family Funeral Home, with burial following in the Evergreen Baptist Church Cemetery.
Morgan Family Funeral Home of Metter was in charge of arrangements.

Janet Lynn Alberson Fail, 41

Mrs. Janet Lynn Alberson Fail, 41, died Saturday, November 25, 2006 at the Ogeechee Area Hospice Inpatient Facility. The Tattnall County native lived in Statesboro for the past 15 years. Mrs. Fail had attended Brewton - Parker College. She was employed with Georgia Southern University for 14 years. Mrs. Fail was a member of the Friendship Baptist Church in Statesboro where she served as church organist and the Relay for Life team chairperson.
Surviving are her husband, Osey Fail, Jr. of Statesboro; three daughters, Katie Alberson, Kayla Alberson and Kaci Fail, all of Statesboro; her parents, Janice and Elbert Alberson of Cobbtown; and a sister, Leigh Alberson of Cobbtown. Several aunts, uncles, and cousins also survive.
Funeral services were held on Tuesday, November 28, at the Friendship Baptist Church with Rev. Tom Osborne officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
Pallbearers were, Tim Erdmire, Bubba Fields, David Mathis, Ricky Cartee, Al Sikes, and Richard Deal.
The family requests that memorial contributions be made to Friendship Baptist Church, 4101 Friendship Church Rd., Statesboro, GA 30458 or to Ogeechee Area Hospice, P.O. Box 531, Statesboro, GA 30459.

Beverly S. Jarriel, 68

Mrs. Beverly S. Jarriel, 68, passed away early Tuesday morning, November 21, 2006, at her residence under the care of Ogeechee Area Hospice.
Mrs. Jarriel was born in Evans County, on November 12, 1938. She was a graduate of Collins High School, and was retired from the Tattnall County Board of Education. She was a member of the Reidsville Baptist Church.
Her parents, Braxton and Alma Sapp; brothers, Ben and Delma Sapp preceded her in death.
She is survived by her husband of 49 years, Billy Dean Jarriel of Reidsville; two daughters, and sons - in - laws, Angelia and Gary Leggett of Claxton and Stephanie and Kenny Lewis of Hagan; a sister, Myrtice Tanner of Claxton; a brother and sister - in - laws, Randolph and Faye Sapp, Joyce W. Sapp and Joyce H. Sapp all of Claxton; grandchildren, Jarin and Jenna Lewis of Hagan and Gary and Emily Leggett Jr. of Rincon; several nieces, nephews and numerous other relatives and friends.
Pallbearers were Eric Sapp, Randy Sapp, Doug Williams, Jerimey Sapp, Jimmy Hal Hicks Jr., and Ty Blair.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, November 22, 2006, at Reidsville Baptist Church with Rev. Steve Miller and Rev. Sterling Bargeron officiating. Interment followed in the Cedar Creek Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery.

Lloyd B. Jones, 82

Pastor Lloyd B. Jones, 82, was a man who talked and walked with God. He was born on June 29, 1924, in Evans County, Georgia, to the late Albert and Ezia Jones. He was the eldest of six children, two of whom preceded him in death, Robert and Juanita Benjamin.
As a young boy he worked with his father on the farm. On October 13, 1943, he was united in holy matrimony to the former Thelma Lucille Whitfield. He also served in the United States Army. There were eight children born of this union, and one preceded him in death, Donald.
In 1953, L.B. (as he was called) and his family moved to New York City. There he held many jobs. In 1957, he was born a second time, this time unto Salvation. Shortly after his conversion, God called him into the Ministry, which has spanned 49 years. In this time he has pastored four churches; First Church of God, Jamaica, New York; United Community Church of Laurelton, New York; Glennville Church of God, Glennville, Georgia; Wabash Church of God, Dublin, Georgia; and was also Assistant Pastor of Church of God Mission in Springfield Gardens, New York City.
During his time as a pastor when he found the time, he attended and graduated from Bethel Baptist Bible Institute and also took correspondent courses at Anderson, IN, and the Bible Institute of the Church of God Ministerial Alliance, New York City. He has also been a Bible teacher and radio preacher for many years, and was in Nursing Home Ministry.
Pastor Jones was a people person. He touched the lives of everyone he met. He was truly a great Pastor, husband and father. His life was an example to his fellow ministers, church members, wife, children, grandchildren and all who knew him. He was loved by all.
Pastor Jones touched many lives. He lived the life that he preached. He has come to the end of his row. He stood the test and he has finished his task he set out to do. He will now take his rest.
He ended his journey on November 22, 2006. He leaves to cherish his memory; a loving and beloved wife of 63 years, Thelma L. Jones; four sons, Albert Jones (Lillian) of Savannah, GA, Delmar Jones of Dublin, GA, Andre Jones of New York, Phillip Jones (Tandra) of Macon, GA; four daughters, Sandra L. Hunter (Hamilton) of Savannah, GA, Dorothy Ballard (Roosevelt) of New York City, Monica Figueroa of Macon, GA, Helen Edmond (Bobby) of Dublin, GA; one brother, Rev. Lee Jones (Mary) of Collins, GA; two sisters, Nita Bell Baker, Lueretha Tillman, both of Claxton, GA; 24 grandchildren, 28 great - grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
Funeral Services were held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, November 29, 2006, at Wabash Church of God in Dublin, GA. Burial followed at Jerusalem Baptist Church cemetery in Groveland, GA.

King and Sons Funeral Home of Glennville and Dudley Funeral Home of Dublin were in charge of the arrangements.

James “Hammer” Sikes, 64

James “Hammer” Sikes, 64, passed away Monday afternoon, November 20, 2006, at Community Hospice House in Vidalia. The Tattnall County native had lived in Collins all of his life. He was a retired fix - it - all man and attended Full Gospel Tabernacle in Collins.
He is survived by his wife, Elsie Sikes of Collins; mother, Ruth Powell of Collins; one step - daughter, Beverly Jenkins of Lyons; two step sons, David Jenkins of Vidalia and Johnny Jenkins of Waycross; step - grandchildren, Tyler Love, Dillon Jenkins, Catelyn Jenkins and Sheyane Jenkins.
Pallbearers were Robert L. Sikes, Gary Kennedy, Mike Smith, Pat Martin, Tony Martin, and Phillip Collins.
Funeral services were held Friday, November 24, 2006, at the Chapel of Bradley B. Anderson Funeral Home with Rev. Acree officiating. Interment followed in the Collins Baptist Church Cemetery.
Bradley B. Anderson Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Eletha Jones Tatum, 88

Eletha Jones Tatum, 88, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, November 28, 2006, at Glenvue Nursing Home under the care of Ogeechee Area Hospice after an extended illness. The Tattnall County native had lived in the Jones Community all of her life. She was a homemaker and a member of Battle Creek Primitive Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, DeWitt Tatum.
Survivors include, son and daughter - in - law, Kennon and Lyndal Tatum of Reidsville; sisters and brother - in - law, Vera and Dwight Tatum of Glennville, Janie Ruth Purcell of Reidsville; grandchildren, Kay and Thomas Wicker of Macon, Ken and Kim Tatum of Reidsville, Kevin and Cathy Tatum of Douglas; nine great - grandchildren, Jared, Caroline and Victoria Wicker; Kay - Lyn and Kameron Tatum, Kitt, Collin, Carrie and Kayla Tatum.
Several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral Services will be 11:00 a.m., Friday, December 1, 2006, at Brannen - Kennedy Funeral Home, Glennville Chapel, with Elder W.H. Durrence and Elder Bob Scott officiating. Burial will follow in Battle Creek Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Jared Wicker, Kitt Tatum, Kameron Tatum, Collin Tatum, David Brazel and Tyler Trull.
Remembrances can be made to Battle Creek Primitive Baptist Church, c/o Jesse Cranford, 323 Cranford Lane, Reidsville, GA 30453.

Colonel Gettis Adair Blocker (Ret), 66
Colonel Gettis Adair Blocker (Ret), 66, died Tuesday, November 14, 2006, in Claxton, Ga. The Tattnall County native was a graduate of the University of Georgia, with a B.S. in Psychology, and obtained his Masters degree at Rochester University. He served 29 years in the United States Air Force, retiring in 1991 with a rank of Colonel and numerous decorations as follows, Legion of Merit, Meritorious Service Medal with 5OLCS, Air Force Commendation Medal, Small Arms Expert Marksmanship Ribbon, Air Force Longevity Service Award with 6OLCS, National Defense Service Medal with Bronze Star, Air Force Overseas Short Tour Ribbon, Air Force Overseas Long Tour Ribbon, Air Force Training Ribbon, Vietnam Service Medal with 4OLCS, Air Force Presidential Unit Citation with 1OLCS, Air Force Outstanding Unit Award, Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal, Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross with Device.
After retirement Adair became an avid follower of Georgia Southern Eagles and Georgia Bulldogs.
Survivors include, his wife, Carolyn Faye Blocker of Glennville; sons and daughters - in - law, Gettis Bradd and Deborah Blocker of Waxhaw, NC, John Adair Blocker of Albertville, AL, Brian Scott and Emma Blocker of Denver, NC; four half - brothers and sisters, Owen and Sylvia Todd of Kelseyville, CA, Patty and Steve Mixon of Freeport, FL, Jerry and Janice Grimes of Glennville, Elizabeth and Jim Henderson of Norfolk, VA; seven grandchildren, Amanda Faye Blocker, Jordan Adair Blocker, Malcolm Alexander Blocker, Bailey Elizabeth Blocker, Elisabeth Rose Blocker, Joshua Lambert Blocker and Lily Caroline Blocker.
Several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral Services were held on Friday, November 17, 2006, at Brannen - Kennedy Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. James H. Crockett officiating. Burial followed in Glennville City cemetery with full military honors.
Pallbearers were Loy Blocker, Calvin Blocker, Frank Blocker, Neal Blocker, Brent Blocker and Jimmy Marcum.
Brannen - Kennedy Funeral Home, Glennville Chapel, was in charge of the services.

Chloe Ann DeFore, 7 months

Little Miss Chloe Ann DeFore, 7 months passed away Thursday afternoon, November 16, 2006, at Egleston Children’s Hospital in Atlanta.
Chloe had lived in Reidsville all of her life and attended Collins Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her paternal grandfathers, Donnie DeFore and Bill Morrow.
She is survived by her parents, Tim and Anna DeFore of Reidsville; a sister, Destiny DeFore of Collins; maternal grandparents, Jean Wrenn of Collins and Lanier and Cynthia Branch of Baxley; paternal grandmother, Mary Morrow of Forsyth; great - grandparents, Mrs. Rabun Wrenn of Collins, Yvonne Branch of Baxley, Miller Turner of Forsyth; aunts and uncles, Jonathan Branch of Collins, Victoria and Christopher Crosby of Baxley, Jeff and Jody DeFore and Jennifer and Todd Rivers, all of Forsyth; numerous other relatives and friends.
Pallbearers were Jeff DeFore, Todd Rivers, Shane Reeves and Stewart Reeves.
Funeral services were held Sunday, November 19, 2006, at Collins Baptist Church with Rev. Gary Page and Rev. Steve Kimbrell officiating. Interment followed in the Collins Baptist Church cemetery.

Florence Addie Mae Stewart Libson, 91

Florence Addie Mae Stewart Libson (“Sister”) was born on April 16, 1915, (her twin, Clarence preceded her in death), to the late John and Melvina Stewart. She was married to Mr. Hosey Libson, who preceded her in death. To this union nine children were born, two preceded her in death, Hosey Libson, Jr. and Betty Williams.
She leaves to cherish her loving memory, five sons, Clarence (Chevy), Herman, Paul (Harriette) all of Glennville, GA; Charlie of Stewart, FL, and Chipel (grandchild) raised as a son, of Kingston, NC; two daughters, Dianne Glasco of Roslyn Heights, NY and Vondell Libson of Savannah, GA; two sisters, Marie Gibbs of Waycross, GA and Leola Nobles of Brunswick, GA; 16 lovely grandchildren, Cassandra, Lamont, Dena, Kenya, Esmond, Sa’sha, Corey, Kendral, Shawn, Brandon, Makayla, Steven, Tomika, Ebony, Robin and Latoya; a host of great - grands, nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends. She will be dearly missed by a dear and long - time friend, Mrs. Henretta Coley.
Pallbearers were grands, nephews and friends. Flower attendants were grands, nieces and friends.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, November 21, 2006, at Greater Zachariah Baptist Church in Glennville, with Pastor C.L. Anderson officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery.
King and Sons Funeral Home of Glennville was in charge of arrangements.
