Walter “Stoke” Rogers, 84

Mr. Walter “Stoke” Rogers, 84, passed away Saturday morning, November 18, 2006, at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Savannah. The Tattnall County native had lived in Reidsville all of his life. He was a farmer and of the Freewill Baptist Faith. He loved to fish and hunt.
He is survived by several nieces and nephews.
Graveside services were held Sunday, November 19, 2006, at Reidsville City cemetery with Rev. Sterling Bargeron officiating.

Geneva Nail Scott, 94

Geneva Nail Scott, 94, passed away Wednesday, November 15, 2006, at Athens Regional Medical Center in Athens, GA. She was born February 15, 1912, in Collins, Tattnall County, Georgia, to James Benjamin Nail and Zera Godbee Nail. She lived in Tattnall County until six years ago when she moved to Magnolia Estates and Assisted Living Retirement Center in Bogart, Georgia.
She was a graduate of Collins High School and Georgia Teachers College of Statesboro (now Georgia Southern University). She taught in the Tattnall County School System for 32 years. She was a member of the Reidsville Baptist Church, the Joy Sunday School Class and the Sunshine Club and the Tattnall County Retired Teachers Association. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jesse Nathaniel Scott.
She is survived by her daughter and son - in - law, Shirley S. and Earl McCorkle of Bogart; granddaughter, Eve McCorkle Seawright and her husband, David W. of Watkinsville; grandson, Dr. Van S. McCorkle and his wife, Dr. Ingrid Newman of Bogart; great - grandsons, David V. Seawright of Athens, Chad S. Seawright of Watkinsville, and Charles S. McCorkle of Bogart; great - granddaughter, Grace McCorkle of Bogart; a sister and brother - in - law, Estelle Nail Drake and Dr. Charles H. Drake of Glennville; several nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers were Dr. Van S. McCorkle, David V. Seawright, Chad S. Seawright, David W. Seawright, Dr. Charles E. Drake and Dr. Jesse B. Scott. Honorary pallbearers were Deacons of Reidsville Baptist Church and members of the Tattnall County Retired Teachers Association.
Funeral services were held Friday, November 17, 2006, at the Chapel of Bradley B. Anderson Funeral Home with Rev. Steve Miller officiating. Interment followed in the Rome Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery.
Memorials may be made to: The Reidsville Baptist Church, Reidsville, GA 30453.

Benjamin Franklin “B.F.” Sikes, 74

Benjamin Franklin “B.F.” Sikes, 74, died Tuesday, November 14, 2006, in Atlanta. The Candler County native graduated Metter High School in 1949, and then from the Georgia Military College, with a Liberal Arts Degree in 1952. He went on to the University of Georgia and graduated with a B.S. Degree in 1955 and then to Mercer University, in Macon, GA, and graduated with a Master’s Degree in Education, in 1963. He served two years in the military, stationed in Friedberg, Germany, where he met Lucy Weyrauch, whom he married on December 15, 1957, in Metter. He was a teacher and Principal for the Hillview Elementary Schools, Collins High School, and Glennville Elementary Schools. He was also elected five times as Superintendent of Schools for Tattnall County, serving Reidsville, Glennville, Collins, and Cobbtown. He was a member of the Metter First Baptist Church and a former member of the Glennville First Baptist Church, where he was an ordained deacon, chairman of deacons, and Sunday school teacher. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, traveling, and spending time with family and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife Lucy Weyrauch Sikes; parents Graham and Zelma Jarriel Sikes, brother, A.D. Sikes and sister - in - law, Frances Chapman Sikes.
Survivors include: aunts, Billie Maniatty, of Decatur, Evelyn Bryant, of Lyons, Corine Lynn, of Savannah, and Reba Sikes, of Claxton; a host of cousins; nephew, Wayne and Kathy Hart, of Metter; great - nephew, Roland and Melanie Hart, of Metter; and great - great niece, Margo Hart.
Funeral Services were held Saturday, November 18, 2006 at Morgan Family Funeral Home, with burial in the Lake Cemetery.

James “Hammer” Sikes, 64
Mr. James “Hammer” Sikes, 64, of Collins, passed away Monday afternoon, November 20, 2006, at the Community Hospice House in Vidalia.
Complete funeral arrangements will be announced by Bradley B. Anderson Funeral Home.

Charles L. Swindell, 75

Charles L. Swindell, 75, passed away Friday, November 17, 2006 at Memorial Health University Medical Center in Savannah. The Tattnall County native had lived in Glennville all of his life. He was a Korean War Army Veteran, a member of Glennville V.F.W. Post #8379, and the American Legion #95, a former Glennville City Council member, serving 12 years and was employed with the Glennville Ford Motor Dealerships for 30 years. He was a member and deacon of Glennville First Christian Church.
He is survived by his wife of 52 years, Iris O. Swindell of Glennville; children, Mary Ann Matthews of Greensboro, N.C. and Jimmy Hoover of Concord, N.C.; sister and brother - in - law, Wanda and Jackie Holland of Ludowici, GA; brother - in - law, D. A. DeLoach of Longwood, FL; sister - in - law, Margie Bogucki of Orlando, FL; granddaughters, Courtney Cook and Christy Hulsey; great - grandchildren, Katie and Abbi Hulsey. Several nieces, nephews and cousins also survive.
Funeral Services were held Sunday, November 19, 2006 at Glennville First Christian Church, with Rev. Jim Crockett and Rev. Jack Hudson officiating. Burial followed in the Glennville City cemetery with Military Honors.
Pallbearers were, Brent Walker, Richard Bradley Jr., Louis Geiger, Dicky Dixon, Jesse Durrence, and Ricky Burkhalter.
Honorary Pallbearers were deacons and elders of Glennville First Christian Church.

Vernon Todd, 87

Vernon Todd, 87, died Saturday, November 18, 2006. The Tattnall County native had lived in Glennville all of his life. He was employed during World War II as a shipbuilder, a farmer and worked with the Georgia Department of Transportation for many years. He was a member of Love’s Chapel Primitive Baptist Church and is preceded in death by a daughter, Verna Dean Todd and two grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife, Janie Todd of Glennville; daughters and sons - in - law, Carolyn and Gerald Malcom of Monroe, Patricia and Robert Driggers of Macon; sisters, Vondell Lindsey of Baltimore, MD and Louise Todd of Savannah; four grandchildren, six great - grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral Services were held Tuesday, November 21, 2006 at Love’s Chapel Primitive Baptist Church, with Elder W. H. Durrence officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
Pallbearers were Jimmy Todd, Eddie Todd, Steven Todd, Wayne Todd, Robert Driggers Jr., and Brent Driggers.
Remembrances may be made to Love’s Chapel Primitive Baptist Church Building Fund.

Lonnie Frank Bagley, Sr.

Mr. Lonnie Frank Bagley, Sr., of Swainsboro, GA, died Thursday morning, November 9, 2006, at the Carl Vinson Veterans Hospital in Dublin. Mr. Bagley, born in Emanuel County, was retired from the city of Swainsboro after many years of service. He served in the United States Air Force, was a member of Mt. Shady Baptist Church and an avid sportsman.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Lacey J. Bagley, and a son, Lonnie Frank Bagley, Jr.
He is survived by two daughters, Norma Jean Pye of Reidsville and Karen Elizabeth Erter of Dallas, TX; six grandchildren, Adam Pye of Reidsville, Dillon Pye of Reidsville, Jessica Erter of Dallas, Zachary Erter, Candace Erter, and Carolina Erter, all of Dallas, TX; and one niece.
Memorial services were Sunday afternoon, November 12, in the chapel of Tomlinson Funeral Home with Rev. Louis Pearce officiating.
Tomlinson Funeral Home of Swainsboro was in charge of the arrangements.

Ernestine Mixon Durrence Hill, 87

Ernestine Mixon Durrence Hill passed away Thursday, November 9, 2006, under the care of Hospice of the West in Orange, California. She was born on June 15, 1919, to Eugene and Evalina O’Quinn in the Low Country of South Carolina. She had lived in Orange, California for the past five years and was a retired school teacher, having taught in Glennville and Garden Grove for over 30 years. She was a member of Glennville First Baptist Church and was preceded in death by her husbands, Lonnie Harris Durrence and James (Jim) Hill.
She is survived by daughters and sons - in - law, Marilyn and John Moore of Orange, CA, Betty Ann and Michael Laurs of Jacksonville, OR, Elaine and Danny Strickland of Glennville; eight grandchildren, David Moore of El Cajon, CA, Susan Moore Blaisdell of Victor, NY, Sharon Moore - Eller of Aurora, CO, Michael Mason of San Francisco, CA, Gary Zawada of San Francisco, CA, Donald and Vivian Mason of Seattle, WA, Lee and Julia Domenick of Lakewood, OH, and Jarrod and Sandra Domenick of Ladson, SC. Ten grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews also survive.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, November 17, 2006, at Brannen - Kennedy Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Keith Rustin and Rev. Lee Domenick officiating. Burial will follow in Glennville Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be David Moore, Gary Zawada, Michael Mason, Donald Mason, Lee Domenick, and Jarrod Domenick.

Precious Kamaria Johnson, infant
Infant Precious Kamaria Johnson passed away Thursday, November 9, 2006, at Memorial Medical Center in Savannah, GA.
Surviving are her mother, Ladeccia Hicks of Hinesville; father, Shannon Johnson of Savannah; maternal grandparents, Earl and Gwitha Warren, of Hinesville; paternal grandparents, James and Carolyn Johnson of Savannah.
A graveside service was held Sunday, November 12, 2006, at Robert Chapel cemetery in Tison.
King and Sons Funeral Home of Glennville was in charge of arrangements.

Marlen Arroyo, 2

Little Miss Marlen Arroyo, 2, passed away early Sunday morning, November 5, 2006, at Memorial Health Center after a courageous battle against cancer. The Evans County native had lived in Reidsville all of her life and was a member of Igelisia Baustista Nueva Vida in Reidsville.
She is survived by her parents, Roberto and Paula Arroyo of Reidsville; brother, Daniel Arroyo of Reidsville; sister, Annabel Arroyo of Reidsville; paternal grandmother, Alejandra Patricio of Mexico; Maternal grandmother, Josefa Hernandez of Mexico; Several Aunts, Uncles and Cousins also survive.
Funeral Services were held on Tuesday, November 7, 2006, at the Reidsville Baptist Church with Rev. Alex Esquivel and Bro. Jesus Angel officiating. Interment followed in the Reidsville City Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Daniel Arroyo, Sergio Aldama, Juan Arroyo, and Porfirio Arroyo.

Howard D. Bass, 44

Howard D. Bass, 44, passed away Tuesday, October 31, 2006, in the evening at Meadows Regional Medical Center. The Germany native had lived in Florida before moving to Reidsville 22 years ago. He was a licensed pipe fitter and was preceded in death by his mother, Margaret Catherine Bass.
He is survived by, his father, Mr. Jack T. “Sam” Bass of Reidsville and brother, George R. Bass of Round Rock, Texas.
Graveside Funeral Services were held on Friday, November 4, 2006, at Cedar Creek Baptist Church Cemetery, with the Reverend Jesse Browning officiating.
Bradley B. Anderson Funeral Home was in charge of the funeral arrangements.
