Lorn VanBuren (LV) Sikes, 77

Lorn VanBuren (LV) Sikes, 77, was called home on March 4, 2007 at Orchard Manor Nursing Home, while under the care of Ogeechee Area Hospice. He lived most of his life in Cobbtown and was a farmer and an avid outdoorsman.
He leaves to cherish his memory his wife of 56 years, Dahlia Sikes, six sons, Ronnie Sikes, Quitman, Jerry and Lorn Sikes, Waycross, C.W. Sikes, Cherokee, NC, Van (Dawn) Sikes, Statesboro, and Daniel Sikes, Bradley, FL. He is also survived by five daughters, Thelma lzzaray, Glen Burie, MD, Jane Sikes, Blackshear, Rachel Sikes, Vidalia, Betty (Ricky) Sheffield, Stilson, and Carolyn Howell, Lake Park. He also leaves behind four brothers, Jake Sikes, Sonny Sikes, Buford Sikes and Buddy Sikes, and five sisters, Mary Sikes, Peggy Lively, Delma Collins, Earline Lively, and Mannie Toole. He also was survived by 23 grandchildren, 12 great grandchildren and his friends and caregivers at Orchard Manor Nursing Home.

Services were held Wednesday, March 7, 2007, at the chapel at Morgan Family Funeral home. Burial followed in Hebron Cemetery.Remembrance may be made to the Orchard Manor Nursing Home, Attn: Activities Department, P.O. Box 118, Pulaski, GA.
Morgan Family Funeral Home of Metter was in charge of the arrangements.

Dolly G. Todd, 83

Dolly G. Todd, 83, passed away Thursday, March 15, 2007 at Glenvue Nursing Home under the care of Pearls of Life Hospice. She was the daughter of Coy and Eula Todd of Claxton. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and sister. Her outgoing personality was a light in the life of all those who knew her. She loved the Lord and enjoyed spending time with her family above all things.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Otis T. Todd; her son, Bill Todd; two grandchildren, Karl and Connie Anderson and several brothers and sisters.
She is survived by her daughters and sons - in - law, Virginia Odom, Janie and Gene Baxley and Elaine and Pat Kennedy, all of Glennville; sister Doris Sapp of Hagan; sisters - in - law, Willa Mae Durrence of Glennville and Melrose Todd of Claxton; several grandchildren, great - grandchildren, great - great - grandchildren and nieces and nephews also survive.
The funeral service was held on Saturday, March 17, 2007, in the Chapel of Brannen - Kennedy Funeral Home, with Reverend Jerry Knight officiating. Burial followed in Harmony United Methodist Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Jimmy Todd, Michael Burke, Bennie Todd, Brad Martin, Carlton Todd and Shane Odom.
Brannen - Kennedy Funeral Home, Glennville Chapel, was in charge of all the arrangements.

Mamie E. Toole, 80

Mrs. Mamie E. Toole, 80, died Thursday, March 15, 2007. The native of Jenkins County lived most of her life in Cobbtown.
Survivors: daughter Fay Totton, Kansas City, MO; brothers W. J. Sikes of Claxton, Buddy Sikes, Buford Sikes and Sunny Sikes, all of Cobbtown; sisters Ruby Belcher of Perry, GA, Delma Collins of Cobbtown, and Erlene Lively, Peggy Lively and Mary Ann Collins, all of Collins.
Funeral services were held Monday, March 19, 2007, at the chapel of Morgan Family Funeral Home. Burial followed in the Elam Baptist Church Cemetery.
Morgan Family Funeral Home of Metter was in charge of the arrangements.

Betty Durrence Waters, 71

Mrs. Betty Durrence Waters, 71, passed away Monday, March 12, 2007, from injuries received from an automobile accident. The Evans County native had lived in Reidsville most of her life. She was a homemaker and a former Pink Lady. She enjoyed working with her son and daughter - in - law in their sweet potato business and was known as the “Sweet Potato Lady.” She enjoyed doing for others, had a love for gardening and always had time for her family, especially her grandchildren. She was a member of the Reidsville United Methodist Church and was a former teacher of the Tommy Thompson Sunday School Class. She was preceded in death by her son, Henry Homer Durrence, Jr.
She is survived by two sons and a daughter - in - law, Dennis and Glenda Durrence of Reidsville, and Heath Durrence of San Diego, CA; step daughter and son - in - law, Sharon and Marcus Frisbee of Middleburg, FL; sister and brother - in - law, Juanita and Buddy Morris of Claxton; three brothers and sisters - in - law, Earl and Joyce Clark and Tommy Clark, all of Claxton, Herschel and Pansy Clark of Hiawassee, GA; four grandchildren, Dustin Durrence, Amanda Durrence, Maria and John Norris, and Brett Hutcheson; two step grandsons, Justin and Bekah Frisbee and Caleb Frisbee; eight great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers were Jim Clark, Jerry McCumber, Roger Kennedy Jr., Carson Sands, Lamar Smith, and Clay Anderson. Honorary pallbearers were the Tommy Thompson Sunday School Class.
Funeral Services were conducted Friday, March 16, at the Reidsville Baptist Church with Rev. Doug Walker and Mayor Jackie Trim officiating. Interment followed in the Reidsville City Cemetery.
Bradley B. Anderson Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Derril Waters, 72

Mr. Derril Waters, 72, passed away Tuesday, March 13, 2007, at Memorial Health Medical Center in Savannah from injuries received in an automobile accident. The Tattnall County native had lived in Florida many years moving back to Reidsville in 1986. He was a foreman for Regis Paper Company in Jacksonville for 30 years and also owned Waters Auto Parts Store in Orange Park, FL, for many years. He retired from the Georgia Department of Corrections in 2001. He was a “Jack of All Trades” and especially had a love for his horses. In 2002, he married the former Betty Clark Durrence, which he always referred to her as his “Sweet Potato Pie.” He was a member of the Reidsville United Methodist Church and the Rising Sun Lodge #32. He was preceded in death by his first wife of 48 years, Mrs. Nell Waters.
He is survived by his daughter and son - in - law, Sharon and Marcus Frisbee of Middleburg, FL; step sons, Dennis and Glenda Durrence of Reidsville and Heath Durrence of San Diego, CA; mother, Mrs. Merle Waters of Collins; three sisters and brothers - in - law, Joyce Sapp, J.C. and Mary Collins, all of Claxton, and Jackie and Lavanda Lynn of Collins; two grandsons and granddaughters - in - law, Justin and Bekah Frisbee and Caleb Frisbee, all of Middleburg, FL; four step grandchildren, eight step great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers were Eddie Funderburke, Wayne Lynn, H.L. Bonner, Eric Sapp, Eddie Pegran and Van Lynn. Honorary pallbearers were members of the Liars Table at Joe’s Kountry Kettle.
Funeral Services were conducted Friday, March 16, at the Reidsville Baptist Church with Rev. Doug Walker and Mayor Jackie Trim officiating. Interment followed in the Reidsville City Cemetery.
Bradley B. Anderson Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Ruby E. Carter, 74

Ruby E. Carter, 74, passed away Tuesday, March 13, 2007, at Candler County Hospital. The Stephens County native had lived in Lyons for many years moving to Collins six years ago. She was a homemaker and a member of Vidalia Baptist Temple. She enjoyed traveling and being with her children and grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her husband, Horace Carter.
Survivors include four daughters and sons - in - law, Judy and Donnie Johnson of Cobbtown, Diana and Stevie Lynn of Collins, Melinda and Clay Sharpe of Jacksonville, FL, and Trina and Herschel Scott of Vidalia; ten grandchildren, seven great - grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, March 15, 2007, from the Chapel of Brannen - Kennedy Funeral Home of Reidsville with Rev. Gary Roberson officiating. Burial will follow in Collins Baptist Church Cemetery.

Ila Mae Jones Crawford, 86

Ila Mae Jones Crawford, 86, of Jacksonville, FL, died Sunday, March 11, 2007, at the Brunswick hospital of the Southeast Georgia Health System, following a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease.
Mrs. Crawford was born Dec. 18, 1920, in Lumberton, NC, to the late Shelton and Frances Jeanette Prevatte. She was a graduate of Kings Business College in Raleigh, NC. She married her late husband, Elton Curtis Jones, on Feb. 7, 1942. Together, they moved to Jacksonville in 1945. Following her first husband’s death, she married Gordon B. Crawford in 1973. She had been living in Brunswick, GA. since 2001.
Mrs. Crawford was a loyal 25 - year employee of the Duval County Public School system, serving as the executive secretary to the superintendent when she retired. She enjoyed a second career as a secretary at Johnstone Supply, and retired from that position in 1995.
She was a devoted member of Riverside Avenue Christian Church for more than 50 years. She rarely missed Sunday services and led many after - church gatherings, socials and programs. She was the church wedding planner and served as an elder for many years.
Family was a hallmark of Mrs. Crawford’s life. She raised both her children in the church, and in her later years she spent many weekends and holidays surrounded by her children and grandchildren in Georgia.
Mrs. Crawford is survived by her daughter and son - in - law, Charles and Jennifer Crisp of Glennville, GA, her son and daughter - in - law, Craig Sr. and Vicki Jones of Brunswick, GA; a stepson, Mark Crawford of Jacksonville, FL; nine grandchildren, Craig Jr. and Carrie Jones of Jacksonville, FL, Steven and Catherine Crisp of Covington, GA, Josh Jones of Brunswick, GA, Adam Crisp of Statesboro, GA, Garrett and Samantha Jones of Brunswick, GA, and Ashley Jones of Brunswick, GA; two great - grandchildren, Craig Jones III and Clark Jones of Jacksonville, FL; as well as a special niece, Faye Bramblett of Thomson, GA. She is also survived by many other nieces and nephews, friends and family. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Ellis James Prevatte.
Funeral services for Ila Mae Jones Crawford will be held at 2 p.m., Friday, at Riverside Avenue Christian Church, 2841 Riverside Ave., Jacksonville, FL. The Rev. Richard J. Hull, pastor, will conduct the services. Relatives and friends are also welcome for visitation at 6 - 8 p.m. Thursday at Town & Country Funeral Home, 7242 Normandy Blvd, Jacksonville, Fla. Burial will follow the funeral at Riverside Memorial Park at 7242 Normandy Blvd, directly across the street from the funeral home.
Arrangements are being handled by Town & Country Funeral Home.

Bertha Mae Brannen Howard, 87

Bertha Mae Brannen Howard, 87, died Thursday, March 8, 2007, at Glenvue Nursing Home. Mrs. Howard was a lifelong resident of Long County, and a member of Grace Baptist Church where she served as church pianist. She was a former schoolteacher and homemaker.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Mary Elizabeth Groover.
She is survived by her husband of 68 years, H.C. Howard of Ludowici; sons and daughters - in - law, Jerry and Janette Howard, Baxter and Elizabeth Howard and Dennis and Donna Howard, all of Ludowici; sister, Louise Rogalsky of Green Cove Springs, FL; brother, Steve Brannen of Watkinsville; 13 grandchildren, 14 great - grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral was held on Sunday, March 11, 2007, from the Chapel of Brannen - Kennedy Funeral Home, with Reverend Thomas Kelly officiating. Burial followed in Pigot Branch Baptist Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Lee Howard, Jarrod Howard, Wes Brantley, Gerry Bath, Joshua Keel, Wendell Colson, Than Kicklighter and Jerome Bath.
Brannen - Kennedy Funeral Home, Glennville Chapel, was in charge of the arrangements.

Larry Philip Rumpf, 62

Mr. Larry Philip Rumpf of Fayetteville passed away in the Healthfield Hospice on March 11, 2007, at the age of 62. He was born in Darby, PA, and lived most of his life in Mobile, AL, with his parents, Geraldine and A.J. Rumpf.
Mr. Rumpf received his undergraduate degree from Auburn University and his MBA in Business Administration from University of Montana. He served in the United States Air Force as a Missile Launch Officer. He was an office manager for Metezers and credit manager for Government Street Lumber in Mobile, AL. He also worked as a regional credit manager for Hertz Equipment Rental in Mobile and Nashville, TN, national credit manager for RSC and regional credit manager for United Rentals in GA and loan officer for American Discount Mortgage.
Larry Rumpf was preceded in death by his father, A.J. Rumpf and his son, Brian A. Rumpf. He is survived by his wife, Ola Faye Yates - Rumpf; mother, Geraldine Rumpf; brother, Michael Rumpf; sister, Gail Culpepper; nephews, Chuck Culpepper, Eric Culpepper; niece, Gillian Rumpf.
A memorial service will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, March 17 in the chapel of Carmichael - Hemperley Funeral Home. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Refreshments will be served at the family’s home following the service.
In lieu of flowers, those desiring may make donations to the American Cancer Society (Pancreatic Cancer Research), 135 Bradford Sq. Ste. B, Fayetteville, GA 30215.
