Christopher Ray DeLoach, 7

Christopher Ray DeLoach, 7, passed away Monday evening, April 2, 2007, at Memorial Health Medical University Hospital after a courageous battle with cancer. The Bulloch County native had lived in Claxton all of his life. He was a second grader at Claxton Elementary School and loved playing his video games. He was a member of Pembroke Assembly of God.
He is survived by his mother, Samantha Tapley of Claxton; his father, Christopher DeLoach of Claxton; two sisters and brother - in - law, Carrie and Jeremy DeLoach and Tracey Tapley, all of Claxton; his maternal grandparents, Ronnie and Alma Myers of Jesup; paternal grandparents, Raymond and Jean DeLoach of Daisy; two nephews, Austin and Andrew DeLoach of Daisy; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, April 5, 2007, at 4:00 p.m. at Eastside Baptist Church in Claxton with Pastor Steve Hester of the Pembroke Assembly of God officiating. Interment will follow in the Brewton cemetery in Hagan.

Rev. William Eason, 75

Rev. William Eason, age 75, died Monday, March 26, 2007, at the East Georgia Regional Medical Center in Statesboro. The Tattnall County native was a graduate of Candler County Training School. He received a B.S. in elementary education from Albany State College. He later earned a master’s of education in school administration for Florida A & M University. He coached basketball and taught in Tattnall County and served as assistant principal in Emanuel County. He retired in 1988 after a 30 - year career.
In 1958, he married the former Geneva Washington, who preceded him in death.
The Rev. Eason was a member of St. Luke AME in Metter. He was called into the ministry in 1978. As a pastor, he served in the Old Georgia Conference, Augusta Georgia Conference and the South Conference. He pastured in the Cobbtown circuit, Reidsville circuit, Davisboro circuit, Mt. Moriah circuit and the Lyons circuit.
He was a member of Candler County Community Ministerial Association, Phi Sigma Fraternity Inc., Georgia Retired Teachers Association, East Collins Community Center, NAACP and American Legion Post #313.
He is survived by his wife, Doretha Eason of Cobbtown; three sons, the Rev. William L. Eason Sr. (Rosalyn) of Savannah, the Rev. Gregory Eason Sr. (Linda) of Atlanta and Nolan Eason of Cobbtown; two daughters, Pamela Eason - Hobbs (Booker T.) of Cobbtown and Dr. Felicia Eason - Forbes (Donald) of Gaithersburg, MD; two step children. Annette Bobbitt of Lyons and Joseph Bobbitt (Felicia) of Boston, MA; seven grandchildren, four step - grandchildern, seven sisters - in - law, six brothers - in - law and a host of nieces, nephews and friends.
The funeral service was held Saturday, March 31, 2007 at Wilcox Auditorium in Metter. Burial was at Eden cemetery in Aline.
Whitaker Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Hattie Hutcheson, 86

Mrs. Hattie Hutcheson, 86, passed away Sunday, April 1, 2007, at Evans Memorial Hospital. The Truetlen County native had lived in Tattnall County most of her life. She was a homemaker and of the Pentecostal Faith. She is preceded in death by her husband, Doster Hutcheson and a grandson, Robert Brett Hutcheson.
She is survived her son and daughter - in - law, Robert and Mary Hutcheson of Reidsville; two grandchildren, Shea and Eddie Cleland of Baxley and Brett Hutcheson of Collins; four great - grandchildren, Layne and Cody Parker of Baxley, Courtney Garmon and Levi Hutcheson, both of Reidsville; and several nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers were Billy Hutcheson, Rocky Hutcheson, Jimmy Hutcheson, Larry Hightower, Lonnie Hutcheson, and Jerry Hutcheson.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, April 3, 2007, at the Chapel of Bradley B. Anderson Funeral Home with Rev. Steve Kimbrell and Rev.Sterling Bargeron officiating. Interment followed in the Little Flock Church cemetery.

Evelyn Elizabeth Elmore Shaffer, 88

Evelyn Elizabeth Elmore Shaffer, 88, died Monday, April 2, 2007, at her residence. The West Virginia native had lived in Glennville since 2005. She was a homemaker and a member of Teays Valley Baptist Church in West Virginia.
She is survived by her children Wanda and James Qualls, of Hurricane, WV, Mildred (Millie) Graves, of Glennville, and Harrison D. and Sandy Shaffer, of Lefthand, WV; a brother, Floyd Elmore of Pinch, WV; two sisters, Gertrude Mooney, of St. Albans, WV; and Cynthia Mace of Beach River, WV; two granddaughters, Pamela Mann and Cindy Graham, both of Glennville; 11 additional grandchildren, 29 great - grandchildren, and 10 great - great - grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at11:00 a.m., Friday, April 6, 2007, at Hafer Funeral Home, in Elkview, WV. Burial will follow in Elmore Cemetery.
Brannen - Kennedy Funeral Home, Glennville Chapel, was in charge of arrangements.

Elizabeth McArthur Morris Southwell, 93

Elizabeth McArthur Morris Southwell, 93, died March 27, 2007, at the Presbyterian Home in Quitman. She was born in Tattnall County on March 24, 1914, to Malcolm Dwight and Mabel Tietgen McArthur. Prior to moving to the Presbyterian Home, she had lived in Tattnall County for most of her life.
Throughout her life she was an avid gardener who grew many varieties of flowers, shrubs, and fruits. In addition, she loved both wild and domesticated animals and usually kept several pets.
She was predeceased by her husband, William Herbert Southwell.
She is survived by a daughter, Ann Morris Carswell and her husband William H. Carswell of Reidsville; two sons, MacArthur “Mac” Southwell of Reidsville and Johnny William Southwell of Macon; three grandchildren, Teresa Carswell Howard of Columbus, Robert Southwell of Glennville, and Rogni Southwell of Statesboro; and two great - grandsons, Robert Cameron Southwell and Damian Southwell, both of Hinesville.
Pallbearers were Brett Kennedy, Tommy Wallace, Louie Tietgen Smith, John Conley, John Sanders, Louie Smith Jr., and Stevie Smith.
Funeral services were held Friday, March 30, 2007, at Bradley B. Anderson Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. John Stephens officiating. Interment followed in the Joyce - McArthur Family Cemetery.
Memorials may be given to: Pearson Chapel United Methodist Church, 5830 Old River Road, Reidsville, GA 30453.

Richard Strickland, 67

Richard Strickland, 67, of Cobbtown, died Sunday at his home under the care of Hospice. He was born in Jacksonville, FL and went to high school in Glennville. He began his career with Borden Dairies in Savannah and continued that career in Orlando, FL, before moving to Cobbtown in 1984. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps, the Seabee Reserves and the Georgia National Guard. He was health officer for the Georgia Department of Corrections for 15 years and was employed with the Tattnall county Sheriff’s Dept. for the past five years. He was a member of Pine Grove Baptist Church. Richard was known for his story telling and gardening. He was preceded in death by his mother, Evelyn Crews Strickland and a brother, Danny Strickland.
He is survived by his wife, Betty Curl Strickland of Cobbtown; three children, Richard A. Strickland Jr. of Guyton, Michael Collins of Cobbtown and Cindy Blanton of Metter; his father, Henry A. Strickland of Glennville; two brothers, Wade Strickland of Dawsonville, and Jeff Strickland of Cummings; two sisters, Patricia Durrence of Suwannee and Kym Jones of Alpharetta; six grandchildren, Chris, Alan, Whitney, Cayla, Tyler and Ellah.
Funeral services were held Tuesday at Kennedy Funeral Homes, Cobbtown Chapel, with burial following in the Sunlight Cemetery. Military honors were observed.
Pallbearers were Kim Lynn, Jeremy Curl, Eddie Strickland, Billy Kennedy, Ricky Bryant and Gerald Mongin. Honorary pallbearers were members of the Tattnall County Sheriff’s Department.
Kennedy Funeral Homes, Cobbtown Chapel, was in charge of all the arrangements.

Al W. Anderson, 42

Al W. Anderson, 42, passed away Wednesday, May 23, 2007, at Memorial Medical Center, after a long illness.
He was a native of Chatham County but resided in Collins for many years. He was a member of West Rome Baptist Church and graduated from Georgia School for the Deaf.
Al was preceded in death by his father, Charles B. Anderson and grandfather, Clyo Sapp, Jr.
He is survived by his wife, Hope Anderson of Conyers; his mother, Lois Anderson of Collins; one son, Travis Anderson of Statesboro; one daughter, Tara Anderson of Conyers; one brother, Ricky Anderson of Collins; one sister, Sherri Hendrix of Claxton; maternal grandmother, Doris Sapp of Hagan; paternal grandparents, Jeff and Lorie Anderson of Manassas; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Sunday, May 27, 2007, at J. Mellie NeSmith Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. David Hagan officiating. Burial was at Old Anderson Cemetery.
A college fund will be established at the Claxton Bank for his son and daughter.

Stephen R. Blackburn, 73

Mr. Stephen R. Blackburn, 73, passed away early Monday morning, May 28, 2007, at Tattnall Health Care Center in Reidsville, under the care of Georgia Home Healthcare Hospice. The Screven County native had lived in Tybee Island many years, before moving to Reidsville 35 years ago. The US Navy veteran served in the Korean Conflict. He was retired from Tattnall County Board of Commission as a shop foreman and attended Friendship Baptist Church. He is preceded in death by his parents, Lawrence Blackburn and Gussie Lee Massey Blackburn.
He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Gladys J. Blackburn of Reidsville; a daughter and son - in - law, Stephanie and Roy Keen of Richmond Hill; two sons and daughters - in - law, Jeff and Leslie Saggus of South Port, NC and Scott and Angie Saggus of Reidsville; a sister, Laverne B. Martin of Savannah; six grandchildren, Catherine Lauren Kirk, Charles Thomas Kirk IV, Melissa Saggus, Hannah King, Hailey King, and Emiley Hayden Saggus; one great - grandchild, Mikey Phillips; and several nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers are Cheyene Rewis, Jeffery Brian Terry, Lee Davis, Austin Debevec, Samuel Lewis Featherston, and Brian Hill. Honorary pallbearers were Billy Hayslip and David Smith.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, May 30, 2007, at the Chapel of Bradley B. Anderson Funeral Home with Rev. Alan Rea officiating. Interment followed in the Reidsville City Cemetery.

Elizabeth Jones Brannen, 71

Elizabeth Jones Brannen, 71, passed away Saturday, May 26, 2007, at Glenvue Nursing Home after an extended illness. The Tattnall County native had lived in this area all of her life. She and her husband owned and operated Brannen’s Gulf and Exxon Service Stations in Glennville for many years. She was a member of First Christian Church in Glennville. She was preceded in death by her husband, H.C. Brannen; a son, Ricky Brannen and a brother, Talmadge Jones.
She is survived by her daughters and sons - in - law, Vicki Kyle and Pandy Wheeler both of Bluffton, SC, Gilda and Michael Rogers of Claxton, Edna and Alan Long of Opelika, AL, and Debbie and Dale Tatum of Glennville; son and daughter - in - law, Wally and Johnna Brannen of Glennville; daughter - in - law, Leila Brannen of Ludowici; brother, Glenn Jones of Reidsville; nine grandchildren, 11 great - grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Monday, May 28 at the First Christian Church in Glennville, with Reverend James Crockett officiating. Burial followed in the Glennville City Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Brandon Jones, Ricky Jones, John Wingate, Ronnie Jones, Randy Canady and Jordy Brannen.
Brannen - Kennedy Funeral Home in Glennville was in charge of the arrangements.
