William Russell “Rusty” Strickland, 27

William Russell “Rusty” Strickland, age 27 of 269 Woodhollow Road, Vidalia, died Sunday, October 7, 2007, in Chester, Pennsylvania. He was a native and lifelong resident of Toombs County, a welder, attended Cobb Creek Baptist Church and was preceded in death by his maternal grandfather, Russell Hooks in 1999.
Rusty is survived by two sons, Noah and Logan Strickland, his mother, Sharon Hooks, and his father, William George Strickland all of Vidalia; two sisters, Jonie Swearingen of Uvalda and Tabitha Strickland of Vidalia; his maternal grandmother, Shirley Hooks of Vidalia, his fiancé, Lawanna Batay of Vidalia and his former stepfather Joseph Harden of Lyons.
Funeral services for William Russell “Rusty” Strickland were held Friday, October 12, 2007, in the chapel of Murchison Funeral Home, with Reverend Chris Pugliese officiating. Interment followed in the Cobb Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Steven Kent, Nathan Caraway, Manning “Doodle” Poole,
Tracy Rapp, Travis Rapp, Shorty Gamble, David Batchelor and Mark Trull.
Murchison Funeral Home of Vidalia was in charge of arrangements.

Sadie Lee Mills, 93

Gene McCranie, 61, died Monday, October 1, 2007, at his home. The native of Tattnall lived most of his life in Cobbtown, and was of the Baptist Faith. He was a retired welder and served in the Army as an E4, where he earned the National Defense Service Medal and was a Sharp Shooter M - 14. He loved to fish, going to Daytona Beach, his dog Sandy and time with family, especially his grandchildren.
He is survived by daughters and son - in - law, Connie McCranie of St. Genevieve, MO, Christy and Ronald Sapp of Fitzgerald; grandchildren, Taylor Collins, Logan Sapp, Georgia McCranie and Gavin Sapp.
Funeral services were held Friday October 5, 2007, at Morgan Family Funeral Home with burial in the Sunlight Cemetery.
Morgan Family Funeral Home of Metter was in charge of all arrangements.

Odis C. Lynn, 92

Mr. Odis C. Lynn, 92, passed away Monday morning, October 1, 2007, at Evans Memorial Hospital under the care of Pearls of Life Hospice. The Tattnall County native had lived in Savannah until recently moving back to Collins. He was a World War II veteran, having served in the United States Army and was a retired adjuster from Union Camp after 34 years of service. He was of the Primitive Baptist Faith. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mildred Lynn and a daughter, Judy L. Arnold.
He is survived by two sisters, Lucille Burnham of Trenton, FL, and Betty Burgstiener of Goose Creek, SC; three grandchildren, Catherine and Edward Griffin, Anita Weitala, all of Collins, and Mitch and Debby Lynn of Guyton; five great - grandchildren, Mark Bunch, Christopher Patterson, Erica Acree, Paul Griffin, and David Griffin; two great - great - grandchildren, Sara and Conner Patterson; and several nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers were Mark Bunch, Christopher Patterson, Paul Griffin, David Griffin, and Edward Griffin.
Funeral services were held Thursday, October 4, 2007, at the Chapel of Bradley B. Anderson Funeral Home, with Elder William Tidwell officiating. Interment followed at Forest Lawn cemetery in Savannah.
Bradley B. Anderson Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Callie Brooke Medlock, 15

Callie Brooke Medlock, 15, passed away suddenly Sunday, October 7, 2007, at Memorial Hospital in Savannah. She lived in Mendes for her first eight years and had lived in Cobbtown since. Calli was a 10th grade student at Tattnall County High School and a member of Pine Grove Baptist Church. She loved photography and was an aspiring artist. Calli was a very giving and unselfish person with great love for her family and friends. She was a wonderful big sister to Hannah, Kie, Zoey and Maci.
She is survived by her father and stepmother, Chris and Jaime Medlock of Cobbtown; her mother and stepfather, Shonda and Ricky Sikes of Cobbtown; a brother and three sisters, Hannah Medlock, Kie Sikes, Zoey Sikes and Maci Bird all of Cobbtown; paternal grandparents, David and Carol Medlock of Mendes; maternal grandparents, Gary Thigpen of Charleston, SC, Pat Thigpen, Larry and Kay Sikes, and Mike and Dawn Page, all of Cobbtown; paternal great - grandmother, Vietta Medlock of Mendes; maternal great - grandmother, Mae Lynn of Collins; uncle Will Thigpen of Cobbtown, aunt Vicki Medlock of Mendes, Uncle Mike and Aunt Deb Burns of Vidalia; and a very special friend forever and always, Blake White of Collins.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, 2:00 p.m. at Pine Grove Baptist Church near Collins with Rev. Jim Rogers officiating. Burial will be in the Sunlight Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday, 5:00 p.m. until, at Kennedy Funeral Homes, Cobbtown Chapel. Pallbearers will be Jordy Rhiner, Randy Rhiner, Madison Waters, Ike Pearson, Lance Lively and Trey Brannen. Honorary pallbearers will be the graduating class of 2010. Remembrances may be made to Pine Grove Baptist Church, 3317 Pine Grove Church Rd., Collins, GA 30421.
Kennedy Funeral Homes, Cobbtown Chapel, is in charge of all arrangements.

Evelyn Kicklighter Sapp, 91

Evelyn Kicklighter Sapp, 91, died Monday, October 8, 2007, at Glenvue Nursing Home under the care of Ogeechee Area Hospice.
Mrs. Sapp was born in Glennville and lived there all of her life. She was a member of Love’s Chapel Primitive Baptist Church and was a loving mother, grandmother, great - grandmother and great - great grandmother. She enjoyed gardening, quilting, arts and crafts, as well as visiting with her neighbors and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, Hazel Sapp and grandson, Doug Sapp.
She is survived by her daughter and son - in - law, Judy and Ron Tippins of Hinesville; son and daughter - in - law, Jerry and Judy Sapp of Glennville; grandchildren, Linda Ward (Steve) of Allenhurst and David Sapp of Glennville; great - grandchildren, Hope Middleton, Dennis Ward and Hillary Altman; great - great - grandchildren, Tanner Middleton and Parker Ward and several nieces, nephews, and some very special friends, Marjorie Kicklighter, Estelle Swain and Betty Smith.
Graveside Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, October 11, 2007, at Loves Chapel Primitive Baptist Church cemetery with Elder W.H. Durrence and Elder Jim Bowen officiating.
Pallbearers are Harry Middleton, Dennis Ward, Gary Brannen, Kenny Brannen, Keith Branch and Dale Kicklighter.
Brannen - Kennedy Funeral Home, Glennville Chapel, is in charge of the arrangements.

Sadie Lee Mills, 93

Mrs. Sadie Lee Mills, age 93, went home to be with the Lord, September 2, 2007. Mrs. Mills was the widow of Theodore P. Mills of Reidsville and a life - long member of the Reidsville United Methodist Church.
Mrs. Mills is survived by her daughter, Mary Ann Mills; two grandchildren, Ann Marie Batté Clayton (Tommy) of Roxboro, NC and Gregory Batté (Donna) of Stuart, FL; three great - grandchildren, Matthew, Jesse and Gregory Kyle Batté of Stuart, FL; two sisters, Mrs. Lessie Mae Durrence of Reidsville and Mrs. Grace Wright of Jackson, SC; and other beloved extended family members.
She is predeceased by her parents, Fannie Mae and Thomas J. Jernigan of Collins, GA; two sisters, Eunice Jernigan (in childhood) and Sally McDonald of Vidalia, GA;’ four brothers, Joe Jernigan of Cobbtown, Robert Jernigan of Wilmington, NC, Roger Jernigan of Walnut Creek, CA and Herschel Jernigan of Biloxi, MS.
The beginning of life for “Miss Sadie” consisted of farm life, The Great Depression and World Wars. However, Miss Sadie was a creative soul whose talent led her into a life - long love of sewing, tailoring and design. At various times she was self - employed and commercially employed in her craft, which brought her great joy. Miss Sadie’s exuberance for life came from her indomitable spirit, love of the Lord, and enjoyment of cherished friends and family.
Miss Sadie was a self - educated avid reader and pursuer of knowledge who never lost her love of learning. Yet, her family and friends will always remember her best for her “Mimi stew” and driving around Reidsville with her little dog, “Sox.”
There will be a memorial service for Miss Sadie at 2:00 p.m. October 21, 2007, at the Reidsville United Methodist Church. Please come and help us celebrate Miss Sadie’s long and productive life.

Johnny Lee Ryals, 49

Johnny Lee Ryals, 49, died Tuesday, September 25, 2007. He was a native and lifelong resident of Tattnall County and a 1976 graduate of Reidsville High School. He was employed as an auto body technician with Jeff Ryals Body Shop and was considered one of the best auto body painters in this area. He was a member of Reidsville Baptist Church and enjoyed hunting and fishing. He is preceded in death by his parents, Billy Lee and Lucy Porter Ryals and his son, Clay Ryals.
He is survived by his daughter, Casey Ryals of Claxton; three granddaughters, Jayla Leigh Ryals of Claxton, Anna MaClay Ryals and Kirsten Lea Ryals, both of Eatonton; two grandsons, Dalton Lee Wood of Claxton and Bo Allen Spivey Ryals of Reidsville; sister, Tonya Beth Mincey of Reidsville; aunt, Bobbie Williams of Vidalia and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Graveside services and inurnment were held Saturday, September 29, 2007, at Reidsville City cemetery with Reverend Sterling Bargeron officiating.
Brannen - Kennedy Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Thomas L. Wyatt, 60

Thomas L. Wyatt, 60, passed away Sunday, September 30, 2007, at his residence under the care of Ogeechee Area Hospice. The Palm Beach County, FL, native had lived in this area for the past 26 years. He was a building contractor and owned and operated Wyatt’s Gun Repair.
He is survived by his wife, Kathy Wyatt of Glennville; daughter, Lori Wyatt of Delray Beach, FL; son, Tom Wyatt Jr. of Glennville; sister, Judy Green of Delray Beach, FL; grandchildren, Britney Cowen and Michelle Cowen and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at a later date.

Jerolene Calhoun Jones, 50

Mrs. Jerolene Calhoun Jones was born on May 5, 1957, in Evans County, GA, to Mr. Roy T. Calhoun and the late Mae Bell Calhoun. She was a member of the Reidsville High School Graduating Class of 1975. Jerolene was an employee of the Evans County Board of Education.
At an early age, Jerolene joined Mt. Moriah Missionary Baptist Church and was a faithful member of the Choir. She was joined in Holy Matrimony to Mr. Frank Jones on June 3, 1978. Jerolene was preceded in death by one brother, Leroy Calhoun; one sister, Dorothy McClain; two sisters - in - law, Orea Youmans and Vernell Byrd; and her father - in - law and mother - in - law, Tom and Inez Jones. She was a loving person who always had a smile on her face. She loved reading and helping her family.
Jerolene Calhoun Jones leaves the following loved ones to cherish her memory, a devoted husband, Mr. Frank Jones of Claxton, GA; her father, Mr. Roy T. Calhoun of Manassas, GA; six sisters, Ms. Doris Calhoun of Claxton, GA, Ms. Annie Lee Stovall of Chicago, IL, Ms. Jimmie Lee (Howard) Perkins of Manassas, GA, Ms. Nancy Porter of Groveland, GA, Mrs. Hazel (Alexander) McNeal of Claxton, GA, Mrs. Loretta (Donald) McFadden of Hagan, GA; two god - children, Mr. Maurice McNeal of Claxton, GA and Mr. James Johnson of Fairburn, GA; sisters - in - law and brothers - in - law, Mrs. Katherine (Johnny) Lane and Mrs. Nellie M. (Bert) Johnson, both of Valdosta, GA, Ms. LaVond Jones and Ms. Aljetta McKinnon, both of Claxton, GA, Mrs. Gleander (James) Johnson of Decatur, GA and Ms. Lellia Fay Nubo of Lithonia, GA and a host of loving and caring nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
Funeral services will be held Friday, December 21, 2007, at 11 a.m. at Mt. Moriah Baptist Church in Manassas. Interment will follow in Green Cypress Church Cemetery.

Ernest Mills Tarver, 80

Ernest Mills Tarver, 80, died Friday, December 14, 2007, at his residence under the care of Ogeechee Area Hospice. The Jenkins County native lived in this area most of his life. He was a graduate of Millen High School and Georgia Teachers College, which is now Georgia Southern University. He was a WWII Navy Veteran serving in Japan. He owned and operated Mascot Pecan Company since 1952, and in 1974 he was named Small Business Man of the Year. He was a member of the Glennville First Baptist Church, the Bruce Dubberly Sunday School Class and served as a deacon.
He is survived by his wife, Juliet Oliver Tarver of Glennville; sons and daughters - in - law, Tim and Donna Tarver and Kenny and Kim Tarver, all of Glennville; daughter and son - in - law, Laura and Kevin Cormier of Jacksonville, FL; ten grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held December 17, 2007, at Glennville First Baptist Church with Reverend Keith Rustin officiating. Burial followed in the Glennville City Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Travis Tarver, Trent Tarver, Thomas Tarver, Drew Tarver, Richard Oliver and Bert Oliver. Honorary pallbearers were deacons of Glennville First Baptist Church.
Remembrances may be made to Glennville First Baptist Church Renovation Fund, 321 W. Barnard St., Glennville, GA 30427.
