Archie LaVerne Wear, Jr., 66, born January 1, 1942, died in Savannah, GA, under Hospice care on December 27, 2007, of congestive heart failure.
He is survived by three daughters and sons - in - law, Dancy and David Carmichael of Ludowici, GA, Jennifer and Nelson Ferry of Lebanon, IL, and Pamela and William Herbert of Hinesville, GA; a brother, Samuel LeRoy Wear of Corpus Christi, TX; a half sister and various other relatives and friends.
There was a brief, graveside service at Hillcrest Abbey East in Savannah, GA, on Wednesday, January 2, 2008.

Susan Bradley Anderson, 57

Susan Bradley Anderson, 57, passed away Wednesday afternoon, December 26, 2007, at Candler Hospital in Savannah. The Tattnall County native had lived in Glennville all of her life. She was a 1968 graduate of Glennville High School and attended South Georgia College. She was a homemaker and a member of the Glennville United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her mother, Betty Stacy Bradley.
She is survived by her husband of 37 years, Danny Anderson of Glennville; three sons and daughters - in - law, Daniel and Wendy Anderson, Alan and Angie Anderson, all of Glennville; and Bradley B. Anderson, of Reidsville; her father, Richard Bradley of Glennville; a brother and sister - in - law, Richard and Louise Bradley, Jr. of Glennville; four grandchildren, Trey, Zachary, Brooke and AJ Anderson, all of Glennville; several nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers were Ricky Bradley, Walter Ray, Glen Fox, Bubba Burkhalter, Drew Cheney, and Larry McLeod. Honorary pallbearers were Glennville High School Class of 1968.
Funeral services were held Saturday, December 29, 2007, at 11:00 a.m., at The Glennville United Methodist Church with Rev. Vance Riggins officiating. Interment followed in the Glennville City Cemetery.
Bradley B. Anderson Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Rita Knight Baxter, 83

Rita Knight Baxter, 83, passed away Wednesday, December 26, 2007, at her residence under the care of Ogeechee Area Hospice. The Tattnall County native had lived in Glennville most of her life. She was retired from AAFES at Ft. Stewart and was a homemaker. She was a member of Glennville Free Will Baptist Church where she served as Saxton for 19 years. She is preceded in death by her husband, Floyd Baxter.
She is survived by a son and daughter - in - law, David and Holly Baxter of Glennville; three grandchildren, Kris Baxter of Augusta, Kaitlyn and Joe Baxter of Glennville; three great - grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held 2:00 p.m. Saturday, December 29, 2007, at Glennville Free Will Baptist Church with Rev. Stephen Windham and Rev. Bruce Roberts officiating. Burial followed in the Glennville City Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Charles Winge, Lee McCurdy, Shea Crawford, Henry Mock, Mike Mulligan, and Gary Baxter.
Brannen - Kennedy Funeral Home of Glennville was in charge of arrangements.

Wright Blocker, 87

Mr. Wright Blocker, 87, died Saturday, December 22, 2007, under the care of Pearls of Life Hospice, after an extended illness. He was a farmer and lifelong resident of Tattnall County. He loved people and never met a stranger. He was a very caring person who helped others in need. His gift of “Gab” led him into many conversations with people everywhere. He loved to “TALK”. He was preceded in death by a grandson, Ray Blocker and two granddaughters, Tori and Tara Lake.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Beatrice Kirkland Blocker of Glennville; two sons and a daughter - in - law, Terrel Blocker and Gerald and Tammy Blocker of Glennville; two daughters and sons - in - law, Brenda and Chip Roberson of Austin, TX, and Mabel and Carson Mixon of Nahunta, GA; two sisters, Jackie McGrady of Brooklet and Theresa Smith of Claxton; five grandchildren and six great - grandchildren also survive.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, December 26, 2007, at Carter Funeral Chapel in Glennville with Reverend Truett Leveritt officiating. Burial followed in Glennville Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Zachary Taylor Blocker, Freddie Rushing, Tres Rushing, Blake Blocker, Timmy Rushing and Kelly Taylor.
Carter Funeral Chapel of Glennville was in charge of the arrangements.

Jimmy Lermont Devine, 26

Jimmy Lermont Devine was born August 8, 1981, in Metter, Georgia, to Jimmy and Annie Devine. He was educated in the public schools of Portal, Georgia. At an early age, he became a member of Rehoviah Baptist Church, Portal, Georgia. He was called home on Thursday, December 20, 2007. He was truly a “humble” young man who loved fishing, mechanics, and his family.
In answering this call, he leaves behind parents: Jimmy (Lynn) Devine, Portal, GA, and Annie Calhoun, Lake City, Florida; sisters: Anna Devine, Swainsboro, GA, and Shakennia Devine, Metter, GA; stepbrothers: James and Terrence Brown, Portal, GA; grandparents: Feolia Devine, Portal, GA, and Rufus (deceased) and Annie Ruth, Lake City, FL, and Earnest “Pop” Johnson (deceased) and Roosevelt (Barbara) Calhoun, Stewart, FL; two very special nephews: B.J. and Andrew; uncles: Louis (Merelene) Devine, Portal, GA, Billy (Diane) Devine, Statesboro, GA; Rufus Devine, Statesboro, GA, Steve (Michelle) Devine, Brooklyn, NY, Roosevelt “Bubba” Calhoun and Juan Calhoun, both of Lake City, FL, and Robert (Sabrina) Calhoun, Palm Bay, FL; aunts: Betty Devine Johnson, Portal, GA, Louise (Nathaniel) Mills, Sylvania, GA, Mamie Warner, Brooklyn, NY, Bobbie Jean Jackson, Joanne Devine, Elnora (James) Blount, all of Statesboro, GA; and Sara (Russell) Byrd, Portal Georgia; and LaChelby (Izell) Scott, Statesboro, GA, Chenise Calhoun, Norfolk, VA, Angela (James) Carlyle, Metter, GA, Gaydrael Johnson, Lake City, Florida, Leslie (Al) Miller, Ft. Lauderdale, FL; and a host of other sorrowing family, cousins, and friends.
Services were held on Friday, December 28, 2007, at 1:00 p.m. at Bethlehem Missionary Baptist Church, Statesboro, Georgia. Interment was held at Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church, Statesboro, Georgia.
Professional services were provided by Barnes Funeral Home.

Vivian Lynn Lewis, 67

Vivian Lynn Lewis, 67, of Baxley died Friday, December 21, 2007, at The Hospice House of Savannah after an extended illness.
Mrs. Lewis was born April 24, 1940, in Collins to the late Roy L. Lynn and Nina Glisson Lynn. She had resided in Appling County for the past 50 years and was a seamstress with Baxley Garment and a manager at Captain D’s. She was a member of Oak View Baptist Church and a contributor to the Faithful Friends Ministry of Altamaha Baptist Church. She was mother and father to her five children for the past 28 years. She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald O. Lewis; grandson, Jonathan Watts; brother, Reginald Lynn; and sister, Barbara L. Seese.
She is survived by daughters, Lyn L. Watts of Baxley and Charmagne L. Landrum of Harlem; sons, Donnie O. Lewis and Chris D. Lewis both of Baxley and Ronnie K. Lewis of Surrency; sister, Sandra L. Moreland of Fredrick, MD; brothers, Kyle Lynn and Herbert Lynn both of Powder Springs, Donald Lynn of Tubec, Arizona, Wendell Lynn of Winston and Delbert Lynn of Pt. St. Lucie, FL; 14 grandchildren and one great - grandchild.
Funeral services were held Monday, December 24 at 11 a.m. from the Chapel of Swain Funeral Home with Reverend Charles Hutcheson and Reverend Phillip O’Steen officiating. Burial followed in Oak View Baptist Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Joshua Watts, Andrew Lewis, Matthew Lewis, Jordan Watts, Nick Landrum, Marcus Lewis and Kade Lewis. Honorary pallbearers were the employees of Donnie Lewis Tire and Brake, Roy and Bonnie Lewis, Doris Mosley, Dr. Joseph Foust, Alice Callaway, Eloise Carter, Karen Cowart, Ellen Mosley, George “Buddy” Jordon and Dale Smith.
Swain Funeral Home in Baxley was in charge of arrangements.

Dovie Jewell Gillis
Mrs. Dovie Jewell Gillis, age 102, of Glenwood died Sunday, January 9, 2011.
Mrs. Gillis was a lifelong resident of Wheeler County and was preceded in death by her parents, William Henry and Amanda Dixon Bright, husband, A. D. Gillis, and children, Christine Williams, Harold Gillis and D. W. Gillis. She was a member of Beulah Baptist Church, Wheeler County, for 88 years.
Survivors include her children, Luther Gillis, (Vanzie), Glenwood, Voncille Nelms, (Levoy), and Ray Gillis, (Brenda), all of Rincon; 15 grandchildren, 24, great - grandchildren, and 11 great - great grandchildren.
Services will be held in Beulah Baptist Church at 11 a.m. Wednesday, January 12, with the Reverends Ray Gillis and Burien Smith officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery with Sammons Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
The family will recieve friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Michael L. Rush, 52

Michael L. Rush, 52, died Tuesday, December 25, 2007, at St. Joseph Hospital in Savannah.
The Chatham County native lived in Glennville for several years prior to moving to Evans County. He graduated from Glennville High School and worked at Claxton Oil Company for the past nine years. He was an avid outdoorsman and NASCAR fan.
Mike was preceded in death by his parents, Charlie and Marie Rush.
He is survived by two sons and daughters - in - law, Chris and Jody Rush of Metter and John and Jerri Rush of Glennville; one daughter, Kendra Rush of Metter; two brothers, Raleigh Rush of South Carolina and David Rush of Savannah; four sisters, Sherry Hampton and Elaine Rush of Claxton, Kitty Ricks of Savannah and Molly Torrance of Savannah; five grandchildren, Dalton Rush, C.J. Padgett, Bethany Rush, Johnathan Rush and Macy Rush.
Visitation will be Thursday, December 27, at 6:00 p.m. at J. Mellie NeSmith Funeral Home. The funeral will be held Friday, December 28 at 2:00 p.m. at J. Mellie NeSmith Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow at Oak Grove Baptist Church cemetery in Glennville, GA.
Pallbearers will be Ray Snellgrove, Barry Waters, Sam Busby, Walter Rush, Mark Rush and Jason Hampton. Honorary pallbearers are Claxton Oil Company employees.
J. Mellie NeSmith Funeral Home, Claxton, is in charge of arrangements.

Billy Thomas Garnto
Mr. Billy Thomas Garnto, 75 of Townsend, died Wednesday, January 12, 2011.
Mr. Garnto was born in Laurens County and was preceded in death by his parents, Lewis Edison and Allie Agnes Mimbs Garnto; his wife, Mary Garnto; and a daughter, Diane Kitchen. He was retired from Campbell Soup Company and was a pipe fitter and welder.
Survivors include five children, Barbara Carver, Brunswick, Janice Garnto, Knoxville, TN, Debbie Garnto, Brunswick, Billy Garnto, Brunswick, and Lynda Pearson, Townsend; a sister, Louise McIntyre, Brunswick; a brother, Edison Garnto, Athens; 13 grandchildren; 14 great - grandchildren; and a special dog, Princess.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 15 in the Chapel of Sammons Funeral Home, Soperton. Burial will be in Bethlehem Baptist Church Cemetery, East Dublin.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers donations may be made to HeartLand Hospice of Brunswick, Georgia.

Robert Stinson, 59

Mr. Robert Stinson, 59, passed away Saturday afternoon, December 22, 2007, at his residence under Hospice Care. The Telfair County native had lived in Dublin many years moving to Collins in 1978. He was a US Army veteran and in the Construction business. He was preceded in death by his sister, Linda Daniels.
He is survived by his wife, Becky Hutcheson Stinson of Collins; a daughter and son - in - law, Hannah and Erik Hampton of Collins; a son, Bryan Stinson of Collins; his parents, Robert Emory and Billie Ruth Stinson of Dublin; a sister, Gail Passmore of Dublin; five brothers, Billy, Raymond, Donnie, Franklin and Jimmy Stinson, all of Dublin; three grandchildren, Blu and River Cowart and John David Rushing III; numerous nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers were Jason Arnold, Kenny Hudson, Michael Stinson, Kevin Daniels, William Arnold and Terrell Ambrose Jr. Honorary pallbearers were Alan Morris, Terrell Ambrose Sr., Richard Higgs, Kenny Lynn, Larry Lynn and Larry Sikes.
Funeral services were held Thursday, December 27, 2007, at 1:00 p.m. at the Chapel of Bradley B. Anderson Funeral Home with Mr. Anthony Hutcheson officiating. Interment followed in the Georgia Veterans Memorial cemetery in Glennville.
Bradley B. Anderson Funeral Home was in charge.
