Annie Bell Stapleton

Mrs. Annie Bell Rogers Stapleton, 65 of Soperton, died Saturday, January 1, 2011.
Mrs. Stapleton was a lifelong resident of Treutlen County and was preceded in death by her parents, Jimmy and Mattie Bell Cammack Rogers; a sister, Patsy Maddox; and 3 brothers, J.B., Ronnie, and Maynard Rogers. She was retired from Forstmann, East Dublin, and was a member of Snowhill Community Church, Wheeler County.
Survivors include her husband, Lamar “Pee - Wee” Stapleton; two sons, Steven and Tonya Stapleton and Phillip and Jamie Stapleton, all of Soperton; two sisters, Agnes Wilcher and Sandra Wilcher, both of Adrian; a brother, Lafaye Rogers, of Soperton; and three grandchildren, Jaicey and Coby Stapleton, and Carson Richardson.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, January 4 in the Chapel of Sammons Funeral Home. Burial will be in Westview Cemetery, Soperton.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Shirley Zeek, 79

Shirley Zeek, 79, passed away Thursday, December 20, 2007, at Candler Hospital in Savannah. The Pennsylvania native had lived in Michigan for many years moving to Glennville in 1992. She was retired from the Wayne County, Michigan Court System as a court recorder and was a member of Calvary Baptist Church.
She is survived by her husband, William Zeek of Glennville; sisters, Martha Allen and Virginia Allen, both of Ft. Myers, FL; brothers, Lloyd Allen and Barnes Allen, both of Clairton, PA; sister - in - law, Jenny Morris of Glennville; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Sunday, December 23 at 2 p.m. at the Chapel of Brannen - Kennedy Funeral Home. Burial followed in Glennville Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers were Brant Kicklighter, Keith Branch, Bobby Kicklighter, Louis Knight, Dana Hammock and Johnny Zeek.
Brannen - Kennedy Funeral Home of Glennville was in charge of the arrangements.

Loree Collins Dickey, 81

Loree Collins Dickey, 81, died Wednesday, February 20, 2008, at Community Hospice in Vidalia. She was born in Tattnall County and lived there most of her life. She was a clerk at Wilkes Drug Store for many years. Loree was a member of the Cobbtown Baptist Church, the Fidelis Sunday school Class and served as chairwoman of the Benevolent Committee. She was a member of the Central Homemakers Club and Disabled Americans Veterans Auxiliary. Loree was known for her delicious pound cakes. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ruby Hendricks Collins and Foy Collins.
She is survived by her husband, Tommy Gene Dickey of Cobbtown; stepbrothers and sisters, Vaughn (Faye) Lanier of Cobbtown, Dr. Willis (Tish) Lanier of Atlanta; Glenda (Jimmy) Sanders of Metter and Margaret (Van) Pease of Alpharetta; and a wonderful family of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Friday at Kennedy Funeral Homes, Cobbtown Chapel, with Reverend K.C. Seabury officiating. Burial followed in the Sunlight Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Will Lanier, John Sanders, Hudak Hendrix, Doy Hendrix, Larry Hendricks and Wayne Hendricks.
Kennedy Funeral Homes, Cobbtown Chapel, was in charge of the services.

Donna Sanders, 57

Donna Sanders, 57, died Sunday February 24, 2008, at Ogeechee Area Hospice after an extended illness. The native of Candler County was a member of El Bethel Baptist Church. She loved books, shopping, going out to eat, and watching animal and comedy shows on television vision. Donna enjoyed dressing up and putting on jewelry and looking pretty. She had several pets, but her favorites were her boxer Bozo and her cat Dudleena. She attended High Hope and loved helping others at the school. Donna was known for her sense of humor, loved to travel, especially on the interstate, and was always the one who took care of the snacks on these trips.
She was predeceased by her parents, R. Lee Sr. and Thetis Randall Sanders; her brother, Hubert Sanders; her brother - in - law, Lorin Pierce; and two nephews, Eddie Pierce and Dan Sanders.
Survivors: brothers and sisters - in - law, R .L. Jr. and Eva Sanders of Morristown, TN, William and Jean Sanders of White Pine, TN, Jimmy and Glenda Sanders of Metter, JoAnn Sanders of Cobbtown; sisters and brothers - in - law Evelyn and Harold Eady of Macon, Edna Pierce of Millen, Mary and J.C. Gay of Garfield, Dot and Don Rabitsch of Metter, and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, February 26, 2008, and burial followed in the El Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery. In lieu of flowers remembrances may be made to Ogeechee Area Hospice, P.O. Box 531, Statesboro, GA 30459.

Patrick H. (Pat) Burkhalter, 60

Mr. Patrick H. (Pat) Burkhalter, 60, passed away Saturday, February 16, 2008, at Memorial Health University Medical Center in Savannah, from injuries sustained in an automobile accident on February 5, 2008. The Tattnall County native had lived in Glennville all of his life. He was a graduate of Glennville High School, Armstrong State University and a Director of First Citizens Bank. He was Owner /Operator of Burkhalter’s Galaxy in Glennville and was an avid fisherman. He attended Cornerstone Bible Church and was preceded in death by his parents, Cyril (Sid) and Etwinda Burkhalter and a brother, Pledger Burkhalter.
He is survived by his wife, Cathy Cowart Burkhalter of Glennville; children, Christy Hertz of Richmond, VA, Heidi Deal of Glennville, Patrick H. Burkhalter Jr. of Atlanta, GA, Heather Burkhalter, Brad Burkhalter, Ben Burkhalter, all of Glennville, Brett Burkhalter, a very special son of Glennville, and Melissa Lanier of Savannah; sister, Shelma Kitchens of Glennville; four grandchildren and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, February 19, 2008 at Glennville First Baptist Church with Reverend Jim Sutton and Reverend Joe Eason officiating. Burial followed in the Glennville City Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Bubba Burkhalter, Charles Burkhalter, Terry Burkhalter, Randy Burkhalter, Ricky Burkhalter, Lee Burkhalter and Lyn Burkhalter. Honorary pallbearers were Officers and Directors of First Citizens Bank.

Helen Maxine Claxton, 75

Mrs. Helen Maxine Claxton, age 75, of Lyons, GA, died Sunday, February 17, 2008, at Meadows Regional Medical Center after a brief illness.
Ms. Claxton is survived by one son Kenneth Claxton of Reidsville; two daughters, Elaine Conner and Debbie Fowler of Reidsville; and six grandchildren.
Funeral Services for Ms. Claxton were held Wednesday, February 20, 2008, from Jones - Stewart Funeral Home Lyons Chapel, with Reverend Bobby Toole and Reverend Henry Dowd officiating. Internment followed in Sharpe’s Cemetery.
Jones - Stewart Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Gregory Paul Jarriel, 46

Gregory Paul Jarriel, 46, died Monday, February 18, 2008, at Memorial Hospital in Savannah. He was born in Tattnall County and was a lifelong resident. He was a poultry farmer, an agricultural farmer, truck driver and mechanic. He had worked 10 years as a foreman for Pike Contractors and at Georgia State Prison.
Greg was a wonderful son, husband and father and loved helping anyone who needed him. He was an avid sportsman and attended the Collins First Baptist Church. Greg was preceded in death by his father, Jerome Jarriel and a brother, Jerry Jarriel.
He is survived by his wife, Carla Russo; his mother, Meletta J. Boyette; son, Justin Jarriel; daughter, Lea Mackenzie Jarriel; two step - children, Tom Merritt Jr. and Ashley Marie Russo all of Collins; half - brother, William
Jarriel of Glennville; many dear friends and hunting buddies, including lifelong friend, Robbie Pye.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, February 20, at Kennedy Funeral Homes, Cobbtown Chapel, with Reverend Steve Kimbrell officiating. Burial followed in the Cedar Creek Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Blake White, John Jarriel, Bryan Jarriel, Louie Jarriel, Brian Howell and Terry Skinner. Honorary pallbearers were Jimmy McDaniel, Franklin Mack, Robbie Pye, Charles Anderson and Pete Jarriel.
Kennedy Funeral Homes, Cobbtown Chapel, was in charge of the arrangements.

Albert Rooks, 83

Mr. Albert Rooks, 83, passed away Tuesday evening, February 12, 2008, at Evans Memorial Hospital. The Toombs County native had lived in Savannah for 42 years, prior to moving to Reidsville in 1987. He was retired from Union Camp after 39 years of service and was a member of the Pine Grove Primitive Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Mrs. Becky Rooks of Reidsville; daughter and son - in - law, Brenda and Thomas West of Reidsville; three sisters, Helen Taylor, Louie Rogers and Betty Thomas, all of Reidsville; grandson, Mykel S. Davis of Guyton; three great granddaughters, Alexis, Brooke and Cayla Davis; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Friday, February 15, 2008, from the chapel of Bradley B. Anderson Funeral Home with Reverend David Moxley and Brother Wayne Fennell officiating. Interment followed in the Pine Grove Primitive Baptist Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Ronnie Rogers, Roy Spikes Jr., J.E. Spikes, Larry Patton, Ricky Andrews and Charles Rooks.
Bradley B. Anderson Funeral Home of Reidsville was in charge of the arrangements.

Gaynell Sikes Smoak, 65

Mrs. Gaynell Sikes Smoak, 65, died Saturday morning, February 9, 2008, at Memorial Health University Medical Center in Savannah following an extended illness.
She was a native of Cobbtown and had resided in Waycross since 1968. She was preceded in death by her parents, Russell Sikes and Sara Moore Sikes.
She was retired comptroller for Smoaks Heating and Air and Monroe Realty. She was a member of First Baptist Church and the Red Hat Society. Mrs. Smoak was a master gardener and an accomplished seamstress. She was devoted to her family and loved being a GranGay.
Survivors include her husband of 47 years, Steve C. Smoak of Waycross; a daughter, Millecent Smoak Nelms of Waycross; a son, Steven R. (Rusty) Smoak (wife Patricia P.) of Atlanta; five grandchildren, Fitz, Lindsay, and Ella Smoak, Ben and Neve Nelms; a sister, Jo Ann Sanders of Cobbtown; and several nieces and nephews.
A funeral service was held 10:30 a.m. Monday, February 11, 2008, at First Baptist Church. A graveside service was held at 3:00 p.m. Monday at Connors Baptist Church cemetery in Cobbtown.

Music Funeral Home in Waycross, GA, was in charge of the arrangements.

Royce Byron Anderson, 64

Royce Byron Anderson, 64, died Tuesday, February 5, 2008, as a result of injuries sustained in an automobile accident. He was born in Savannah and was a graduate of Jenkins High School. He was a U.S. Navy veteran and a former employee of Trust Company Bank in Atlanta. In 1976, he returned to permanently reside in Glennville. He was the owner of Tattnall Insurance and Realty, Inc. and a member of the Board of Directors of South Georgia Bank since its inception in 1987. He was a faithful member of Ebenezer Free Will Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Faye Purvis Anderson.
He is survived by his children, Alexis Anderson, Renee and Keith Dixon, all of Glennville and Lt. Col. Ron and Julie Anderson of Goldsboro, NC; fiancée, Margie Davis of Leeds, AL; sisters and brothers - in - law, Francine and David Scott of Conway, SC and Hilga and Walter Kerr of Moody, AL; mother - in - law, Mrs. Irma Purvis of Glennville; sisters - in - law and brother - in - law, Patsy Purcell and Linda and Randy Bradley, all of Glennville; grandchildren, Lindsay, Hunter, Avery, Zachary and Logan.
Funeral services were held Saturday, February 9, 2008, at Ebenezer Free Will Baptist Church with Dr. Rick Cason officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery with military honors.
Pallbearers were Brad Tatum, Bryan Dutton, Bryant Tatum, Tyron Joyner, Russell Belding and Keith Pirkle. Honorary pallbearers were directors and employees of South Georgia Bank.
Remembrances may be made to The R.B. Anderson Memorial Fund, c/o South Georgia Bank, P.O. Box 100, Glennville, GA 30427.
