Althea Tootle Sheffield, 87

Althea Tootle Sheffield, 87, died Tuesday, September 16, 2008, at Glenvue Nursing Home. The Tattnall County native lived in this area all of her life. She was a homemaker who devoted her life to the loving care of her family. She was of the Christian faith. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ray Sheffield.
She is survived by her daughter, Janet Putnam of Glennville; son and daughter - in - law, Jerome and Elizabeth Sheffield of Glennville; special friend, Emily Kicklighter of Glennville; four grandchildren, David Sheffield of Los Angeles, CA, Will and Angelynne Sheffield of Glennville, Amy and Randy Jessup of Gainesville, GA, and Lee and Cindy Sheffield of Glennville; nine great - grandchildren, Matthew Putnam, Ashley Putnam, Will K. Sheffield, Aubrey Ray Sheffield, Carson Becton, Ben Jessup, John Jessup, Railey Sheffield and Elizabeth Jessup; one great - great - grandson, Bailey Putnam and several other relatives.
Funeral services were held on September 18, 2008, from the Chapel of Brannen - Kennedy Funeral Home with Reverend Vance Riggins officiating. Burial followed in Glennville City Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Will Sheffield, Lee Sheffield, Gerald Strickland, Scott Rogers, Bubba Burkhalter and Don Kicklighter.
Remembrances may be made to Glenvue Nursing Home, 721 N. Downing Musgrove Highway, Glennville, GA 30427.
Brannen - Kennedy Funeral Home, Glennville Chapel, was in charge of the arrangements.

Andrew L. Smith, Jr., 78

Mr. Andrew L. Smith, Jr., age 78, of Waynesville, NC, died Thursday, September 18, 2008, at Haywood Regional Medical Center.
A native of Portal, Georgia, he was raised in Savannah and resided in Sunset Harbor, NC, prior to moving to Waynesville, NC. He was the son of the late Andrew L. Smith and Lena Hartley Smith Byrd and was preceded in death by two sisters, Imogene Lanigan and Christine Prescott. He was a U.S. Navy Veteran, having served during the Korean Conflict and was a member of The National Association of Atomic Veterans. He was employed with CSX Railroad for 29 years, retiring in 1986. He was a member of Solomon Lodge No. K F&AM for 50 years. He was an avid hunter and fisherman.
He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Joanne Gubbins Smith; a son, Mark Smith, of Lafayette, CA; two daughters, Shelly Millard and her husband, Jim, of Waynesville, Kelly Musty and her husband, Dan, of Hillsborough, NC; and a niece, Cynthia Gamble.
A graveside funeral service was held Monday at the Lake cemetery in Metter. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Masonic Home for Children, 1417 Nottingham Drive, Macon, GA 31211.
Kennedy Funeral Homes, Hooks Chapel, of Metter was in charge of service.

Joede Watson, 80

Joede Watson, 80, passed away on Sunday, September 21, 2008, at Evans Memorial Hospital. He was a native of Tattnall County and was a resident of the Glenview Nursing Home for a number of years.
He is survived by two sisters, Katherine Middleton and Annie Harvey, and a brother, Henry Watson, all of Glennville, GA and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, September 27, 2008, at the Center of Life Church of God in Glennville, GA, at 1:00 p.m. with burial in the Robert Chapel cemetery in Tyson, GA.
Visitation at King and Son’s Funeral Home in Glennville on Friday, September 26, 2008, from 7 - 8 p.m.
King and Sons Funeral Home of Glennville is in charge of the arrangements.

Christopher (Chris) Andrew White, 19

Christopher (Chris) Andrew White, 19, died Thursday September 19, 2008.
The native of Columbia, SC, attended Open Door Worship Center. He loved following NASCAR, hunting, music and fishing with his Papa in Lake Collins.
Survivors: mother, Carol J. White; step - father, Mike Poole; brother, Jonathan White; sisters, Jessica Barwick and Tiffany Jones; and maternal grandfather, Felton White,
Funeral services were held Monday, September 22, 2008, at Poplar Springs Church, with burial following in the church cemetery.
Kennedy - Morgan - Brannen was in charge of the arrangements.

Dean Vernon Coleman, 84

Dean Vernon Coleman, age 84, of Pensacola, FL, passed away Wednesday, November 19, 2008. Dean was born August 4, 1924, in Cobbtown, GA. He retired from the US Navy as a Chief Petty Officer after 24 years of active duty service. He served during WWII, Korean and Viet Nam Wars. He worked an additional 20 years at Pensacola NAS as a federal civil servant. An avid fisherman, Dan embraced life and spent many hours on the river. His infectious smile will always be remembered.
He is survived by his wife Jane; his children, Theresa Shell, Rita Coleman and Alan Coleman; three grandchildren, Scott Hagg, Heather Harris and Justin Coleman; three great grandchildren, Carter, Samuel and Asher Harris; the mother of his children, Louise Mastron; sisters, Carolyn Davis and Laura Fegely.
According to his wishes, Dean will be cremated. A private memorial service will be held at a later date at Barrancas National cemetery @ Pensacola NAS. In lieu of flowers, remembrances can be sent to the ARDS Support Center, 7172 Regional Street, #278, Dublin, CA 94568 - 2324 (www.ards.org).

Elene Lanier Lloyd, 83

Elene Lanier Lloyd, 83, passed away Wednesday, November 19, 2008, at Camillia Health and Rehabilitation in Claxton. She was the daughter of the late Ell and Eva Lee Lanier. Elene lived most of her life in Garden City and was a teacher with the Chatham County board of Education for 34 years. She had lived with Alzheimer’s disease for the last several years. She was a member of the Collins First Baptist Church and was the widow of Sonny Lloyd.
She is survived by three daughters, Linda (Bobby) Holland of Collins, Donna Roberts of Hardeeville, SC and Debra (Skip) Lewis of Savannah; a brother, Don (Marilyn) Lanier of Cobbtown; a sister, Mary (Edwin) Shirey of Conyers; eight grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
A family graveside service was held Sunday, November 23, 2008, at Collins Baptist Church Cemetery.
Kennedy Funeral Home, Cobbtown Chapel, was in charge of the arrangements.

James Clayton Aldrich, 65

James Clayton Aldrich, 65, died Tuesday November 18 at Azalea Health Care. The native of Candler County lived most of his life here. Clayton was former Metter Police Officer and a retired truck driver.
Survivors include his sons, Anthony Clayton Aldrich and Stephen Craig (Donna) Aldrich; brothers, Wade and Freddie Aldrich all of Metter, sister, Evelyn Miles of Aiken SC, and grandchildren: Clay, Brittany, and Cody.
Funeral services will be Thursday 2:00 in the Metter chapel with burial in the Lake Cemetery.
Kennedy - Morgan - Brannen of Metter - Cobbtown, is in charge of the arrangements.

Betty J. Bazemore, 76

Betty J. Bazemore, 76, passed away Saturday, November 15, 2008, at Riverview Health & Rehabilitation Center under the care of Odyssey Healthcare Hospice. The Tattnall County native had lived in this area most of her life. She was employed with Glennville Lingerie Factory for many years and was a homemaker.
She is survived by her children, Linda Sapp Pearman of Savannah, Brenda Sapp Nobles and James Reppard (Hubba Bubba), both of Glennville; sisters, Lillian Banks and Mary Pearce, both of Glennville and Shirley White of Lyons; brother, W.S. (Sam) Griffin of Savannah; six grandchildren, ten great - grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Graveside funeral services were held Tuesday, November 18, 2008, at Glennville Memorial Gardens cemetery with Reverend Lee Pulliam officiating.
Brannen - Kennedy Funeral Home of Glennville, was in charge of the arrangements.

Virginia Dubberly Boone, 82

Virginia Dubberly Boone, 82, died Sunday, November 16, 2008, at her residence after a short illness. The Tattnall County native had lived in Glennville most of her life. She ands her husband owned and operated the Oak Tree Restaurant and also operated Bargeron’s Store for many years. She was employed with the Tattnall County School System in food service. She was a loving mother and wife and a member of Calvary Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 50 years, Clinton “Red” Boone.
She is survived by her daughters and sons - in - law, Doretha and Dana Wendt of Alton, IL, Angela and Benjie Jacobs of Goldsboro, NC and Wendy and Timmy Graham of Glennville; sisters, Bonnie D. Johnson and Sally Burkhalter, both of Glennville; brothers, Reginald Dubberly of Glennville, Jack Dubberly of Lyons and Pat Dubberly of St. Simons Island; nine grandchildren, nine great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, November 20, 2008, at 11 a.m. from the Chapel of Brannen - Kennedy Funeral Home with Reverend Jerry Knight and Reverend Bryan Anderson officiating. Burial will follow in Ebenezer Free Will Baptist Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Clinton Jacobs, James Jacobs, Clayton Graham, Matthew Wendt, Nicholas Graham, Kevin Jacobs and Jordan Wendt.
Brannen - Kennedy Funeral Home, Glennville Chapel, is in charge of the arrangements.

Keith Conner, 37

Keith Conner, 37, passed away early Sunday morning, November 16, 2008, at his residence in Bradenton, FL. The Jeff Davis County native had lived in the Lynntown Community most of his life moving to Bradenton eight years ago. He was the supervisor for the City of Bradenton Water Works. He was of the Baptist faith and was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Pete and Madie Conner.
He is survived by his wife, Gayla Conner of Bradenton; son, Nathan Jon Crum of Bradenton; daughter, Kayla Marie Crum of Bradenton; father and step - mother, Charles and Gwen Conner of Uvalda; mother and step - father, Carolyn and Gary Durden of Twin City; maternal grandparents, Howard and Mary Lamb of Collins; three brothers and sisters - in - law, Don and Pam Conner of Mt. Vernon, Charlie and Ami Conner and Kevin Wilkes, all of Uvalda; two sisters and brothers - in - law, Kathy and Drayton Dowd of Uvalda and Kristie C. and Juan Rodriguez of Reidsville and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted Saturday, November 22, 2008, at 2:00 p.m., from the Chapel of Bradley B. Anderson Funeral Home, with Reverends Gilbert Wommack and Henry Dowd officiating. Interment will follow in the Little Flock Church Cemetery.
Richard Lynn, Shane Barnard, Wesley Lynn, Scott Ulmer, Kim Lynn and Ronnie Willis will serve as pallbearers.
Bradley B. Anderson Funeral Home is in charge of serving the Conner Family.

William Bobby Lanier, 74

William Bobby Lanier, age 74, died of cancer on November 4, 2008, at 12:20 p.m., at Candler/St. Joseph’s Hospital. He was born in Candler County, Metter, GA, December 26, 1933. He was predeceased by his mother, Almarita Lee Lanier and his father, Louis Lanier.
Mr. Lanier is survived by his wife of 53 years, Eveleen Kemp Lanier; two daughters and sons - in - law, Sandy Derene Rogers and husband, Attis Keith Rogers and Debbie Lee Morris and husband, Gabriel Andrew Morris; three grandchildren, Andrea Lee and Haley Nicole Morris and Tyler Evan Rogers; brothers, Ray Lewis, John Hillis and Mitchell (Mickey) Carlos.
Funeral services were held Friday, November 7, 2008, at Metter First Baptist Church with burial following in Lake Cemetery, Candler County, Metter, GA.
Kennedy - Morgan - Brannen Funeral Home, Metter - Cobbtown, was in charge of the arrangements.
