Robert David Moore, 46
Robert David Moore, 46, of Lyons died Monday, November 17, 2008. The Candler County native lived in Cobbtown 25 years before moving to Toombs County in 2007. Robert was a car salesman before he became disabled in 2001 and was a member of Hillside Church of God. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather and son and loved NASCAR racing. He was preceded in death by a brother, Douglas Moore and a sister, Betty Jo Kitchens.

Robert was survived by his wife, Teresa Moore of Lyons; mother, Helen Moore of Metter; two daughters, Amanda Moore of Lyons and Stacey Moore of Metter; brother, Sammy Moore of Lyons; two sisters, Connie Lanier of Metter and Annette Forsell of Ridgeville, S.C.; mother - in - law, Lavon Holland of Lyons; two grandchildren, Peyton Allen and Caiden Allen.

Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, November 20, 2008, at 2:00 p.m. at

Kennedy Funeral Homes, Cobbtown Chapel, with burial in the Sunlight Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday, 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

Jerome B. Rogers Sr., 88
Mr. Jerome B. Rogers Sr., 88, of Claxton, GA, beloved husband of Dorothy Jordan Rogers of 64 years, entered into rest on Friday, November 14, 2008, at his home in Claxton, GA.

He was the son of the late James Moore Rogers and Mary Etna Warnell Rogers. He was predeceased by a brother, James Rogers and a sister, Mary Rogers Jackson.

He was born in, and was a current resident of, Claxton, GA. he was a member of Bay Branch Primitive Baptist Church. He was a decorated Army Airborne veteran of World War II. He retired after a long and distinguished career with Georgia - Pacific Corporation. He was a loving and dedicated husband, father and grandfather. He will be greatly missed by his family and many friends and all whose lives he touched.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Jerome B. Rogers Jr., (Becky) of Statesboro, GA, Harry W. Rogers (Sandy) of Blountstown, FL, Ann Rogers Muehl (Wally) of Winston - Salem, NC, and William H. Rogers (Elizabeth) of Martinez, GA. He was also survived by seven grandchildren, Mary Ann Rogers of Statesboro, GA, Kimberly Rogers of Tampa, FL, T.J. Rogers of Blountstown, FL, Will Muehl of Winston - Salem, NC and Adam, Mary Catherine and Marisa Rogers of Martinez, GA; a niece, several nephews, cousins and one dear cousin, Carolyn Warnell Bryan, of Savannah, GA. Also seated with the family were dear friends, Roy and Brenda Rogers.

Graveside funeral services were held Monday, November 17, 2008, at Forest Lawn cemetery in Savannah, GA, with the Elder Jackie Wharam officiating.

Pallbearers were Herbert Daniel Jr., George Pace, Bryan Rogers, Jimmy Sands, Al Templeton and Brooks Warnell. Honorary pallbearers were the employees and retirees of Georgia Pacific Corporation.

Flowers will be accepted or memorial contributions may be made to Bay Branch Primitive Baptist Church, Rt. 2 Box 75, Claxton, GA 30417 or The Ogeechee Area Hospice of Statesboro, P.O. Box 531, Statesboro, GA 30458.

Mellie Nesmith Funeral Home of Claxton was in charge of the arrangements.

Carl Eugene Tatum, 56
Carl Eugene Tatum, 56, died Wednesday, November 12, 2008, at Candler County Hospital. He was born in Tattnall County but moved to the Metter area 20 years ago. He attended Metter Freewill Baptist Church, enjoyed fishing, camping and working on cars.

He is survived by his wife, Bonnie Barber Tatum of Metter; daughters, Jackie Ann Tatum and Beth T. Barron (Martin); son, Timmy Driggers (Melissa) all of Metter; sisters, Charlene Jones of Claxton, Eloise Skinner of Metther and Huey Hodges of Glennville; brothers, Jimmy Tatum of Glennville and Dannie Tatum of Metter; 14 grandchildren, seven grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held Friday, November 13, 2008, in the chapel of Kennedy - Morgan - Brannen Funeral Home of Metter. Burial followed in Cool Springs Baptist Church Cemetery.

Karon Jenkins, 60
Karon Jenkins, 60, passed away November 5, 2008, at Ogeechee Area Hospice.

The native and life long resident of Tattnall County was a member of Collins Full Gospel Church. He retired from the Tattnall County Road Department as a heavy equipment operator. He attended school at Hillview and Collins.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Warnell and Jack Jenkins.

He is survived by two sons and daughter - in - law, Patrick Lewis of Bellville and Andy and Christine Jenkins of Collins; one daughter and son - in - law, Regina and Ron Schielie of Statesboro; two brothers and sisters - in - law, Randy and Janice Jenkins of Manassas and Joey and Deloris Jenkins of Collins; three sisters and brothers - in - law, Clara Nell and the late Gary Sims of Ellabell, Fay and Francis Yarborough of Collins and Sandra and Hugh Davis of Collins; eight grandchildren, Ashton Lewis, Scott Lewis, Tyler Jenkins, Allison Schielie, Chandler Jenkins, Aaron Schielie and Chance Lewis and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held Saturday, November 8, 2008, at J. Mellie NeSmith Funeral Home Chapel. G. A. Malone was the speaker. Burial followed in Anderson Church Cemetery.

Pallbearers were Greg Sims, Travis Jenkins, Daniel Jenkins, Nathan Jenkins, Michael Eason and Lamar Lanier.

Mellie NeSmith Funeral Home in Claxton was in charge of the arrangements.

Sarah Kennedy, 90
Mrs. Sarah Kennedy, 90, of Glennville, GA, passed away Wednesday, November 5, 2008, at the Doctors Hospital of Tattnall in Reidsville, GA, after an extended illness. She was a member of Beulah No.1 Baptist Church in Mendes, GA.

She is survived by her daughter, Alfreda Collins of Miami, FL; two sons, Henry Kennedy of Miami, FL, and Cleotha Kennedy of Glennville, GA; one sister, Maybelle Richardson of Glennville, and James Richardson of Jacksonville, FL; 15 grandchildren, 22 great - grandchildren, four great great grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, November 15, 2008, at 2 p.m. at Beulah No. 1, with burial following in the Eureka Cemetery.

King and Son Funeral Home of Glennville is in charge of the arrangements.

William Bobby Lanier, 74
William Bobby Lanier, age 74, died of cancer on November 4, 2008, at 12:20 p.m. at Candler/St. Joseph Hospital. He was born in Candler County, Metter, GA, December 26, 1933. He was predeceased by his mother, Almarita Lee Lanier and his father, Louis Lanier.

Bobby attended Metter grammar and Metter High School, graduating in 1950. He was on the high school football team, the Bulldogs, where he was given the name “Goat, ” running down the field, through the team, with his head down like a goat!

During his school years, he delivered he Savannah Morning News, riding his bicycle all over town with one of his friends perched on the handlebars. He also worked at the movie theatre and Candler Pharmacy.

After graduating from high school and at the age of 17, he joined the U.S. Air Force, serving 10 years and serving in the Korean Conflict.

Upon leaving the Air Force, Bobby worked with radio station WMAC in Metter as an announcer and salesman while attending Georgia Southern College. He received his BBA Degree in Accounting in 1966.

Bobby began his career with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (COE) in the Savannah District in Savannah, GA, as an accountant, GS - 5 in December 1966. His career with the corps took him from the Savannah District to the Office, Chief of Engineers (OCE) in Washington, D.C. and back to Savannah District (COE). From Savannah he went to the Corps of Engineers Waterways Experiment Station in Vicksburg, MS, then to the South Atlantic Division (COE) as Comptroller and from there went with the Corps of Engineers, European Division (EUD) Frankfurt, Germany as Comptroller, then back to the Fort Worth District Office, Fort Worth, TX, as Comptroller. From Texas, he was employed with the Corps’ Division Office in Vicksburg, MS, as Comptroller/Financial Manager for The Lower Mississippi Valley Division and the Mississippi River Commission. Bobby retired as a GM - 15, August, 1989.

After retirement, he moved his family back to Metter, GA. He served on the Metter Housing Authority, City Council, and the Zoning Committee. He was a member of the Metter First Baptist Church, was a Sunday school teacher and served on the Finance Committee.

Mr. Lanier is survived by his wife of 53 years, Eveleen Kemp Lanier; two daughters and sons - in - law, Sandy Derene Rogers and Attis Keith Rogers and Debbie Lee Morris and husband Gabriel Andrew Morris; three grandchildren, Andrea Lee and Haley Nicole Morris and Tyler Evan Rogers; brothers, Ray Lewis, John Hillis and Mitchell (Mickey) Carlos.

Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 13, and funeral

services will be held Friday, November 14, 2008, at 11 a.m., at Metter First Baptist Church in Metter, GA, with burial following at Lake cemetery in Metter, GA.

Marvin C. Moody, 84
Marvin C. Moody, 84, died Thursday, November 6, 2008, at Wayne Memorial Hospital in Jesup. The Long County native had lived in this area all of his life. He was retired from Civil Service at Ft. Stewart with 30 years of service and was a member of Pigot Branch Baptist Church.

He is survived by his sisters, Joy Wingate of Ludowici, Violet Cail of Sylvania and Dorothy and Frank Surrency of Jesup; brothers, Warden Moody of Ludowici and Charlie and Annette Moody of Jesup and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Funeral services were held on Sunday, November 9, 2008, at 2 p.m., at Pigot Branch Baptist Church with Reverend James O. Young officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

Pallbearers were Bill Wingate, Mike Wingate, Jerry Moody, Owen DeLoach, Harmon Moody and Terrell Surrency.

Brannen - Kennedy Funeral Home, Glennville Chapel, was in charge of the arrangements.

Brenda Anderson Toler, 60
Brenda Anderson Toler, 60, died Tuesday, November 4, 2008, at Memorial University Medical Center in Savannah. The Tattnall County native had lived in this area most of her life and was a homemaker and operated a child daycare for many years. She was a member of Oak Park Church of God.

She is survived by her husband, Roy Toler Jr., of Reidsville; children, Myra Gail Tanner of Brunswick, Patricia Dale Woodrum of Kingsland and Renae Estelle Pomar of Reidsville; sisters, Laverne McDilda of Claxton and Susie Brown of Terrell, TX; brother, Parker Anderson of Daisy; seven grandchildren, one great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held Friday, November 7, 2008, from the Chapel of Brannen - Kennedy Funeral Home with Pastor Bryan Powell officiating. A private burial followed.

John O. Harwell, 90
John O. Harwell, 90, passed away Wednesday, October 29, 2008, at Hospice Savannah. The Alabama native had lived in Huntsville, AL, for many years before moving to this area two and a half years ago. He was a World War II and Korean War Veteran retiring after 21 years of service as a Lt. Colonial and retired from Civil Service. He was a member of Southside Baptist in Huntsville, and Bull Street Baptist Church in Savannah. He was preceded in death by a son, Richard A. Harwell.

He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Elba Baxter Harwell of Trinity, AL; daughter and son - in - law, Angie H. and George Porter of Savannah; grandchildren, Shelley H. and David McIntosh, John A. Harwell, G. David Porter Jr., Michael M. Porter, and several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held Friday, October 31, 2008, from the Chapel of Brannen - Kennedy Funeral Home with Reverend Calvin Fowler and Reverend Dan Patrick officiating. Burial followed in Ebenezer Freewill Baptist Church cemetery with full Military Honors.

Pallbearers were Shands Howard, Gary Baxter, David Baxter, Charles Winge, John Harwell, David Porter, Michael Porter and David McIntosh.

Jettie Stubbs Tootle Howard, 70
Jettie Stubbs Tootle Howard, 70, passed away Monday, October 27, 2008, at Candler Hospital in Savannah. The Tattnall County native had lived in this area all of her life. She was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother and sister and was always available to anyone in their time of need. She worked for the Tattnall County Board of Elections as a poll worker in the Tyson District. She was employed by Piggly Wiggly and Glenvue Nursing Home for many years and was a homemaker. She was a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church.

She is survived by her husband, Ronald Howard of Glennville; children, Gilbert and Karen Tootle, Gene Tootle and Brandy Thornton and Gary Tootle, all of Glennville; step - children, Timothy and Donna Howard of Shellman Bluff and Rita and Stephen Dearing of Savannah; sisters, Nadine and Gene Dunn and Jean Deal all of Reidsville, Montez Todd of Glennville and Inez Hughs of Vidalia; brothers, Bill Stubbs of Collins, Herman Stubbs of Reidsville and Henry and Pat Stubbs of Nixa, MO; special friend, Doris Rush; grandchildren, Kaley and Zac Tootle, Jenny Brooke Tootle, Chad Morgan, I.J. Morgan, Marysa Howard, Jason Howard, Stephanie Howard, Grace Ann Howard and John Presley Orvin and several nieces and nephews.

Graveside funeral services were held Wednesday, October 29, 2008, at Oak Grove Baptist Church cemetery with Dr. Charles (Bucky) Strickland officiating.

Pallbearers were Andy Wilson, Buster Wilson, Tommy Stubbs, Terry Stubbs, I.J. Morgan and Doug Stubbs.

Brannen - Kennedy Funeral Home, Glennville Chapel, was in charge of the arrangements.
