Carolyn Whitmer Chinn, 63

Mrs. Carolyn Whitmer Chinn, 63, a resident of Brunswick, died Thursday, April 23, 2009, in the Southeast Georgia Health System in Brunswick.
Mrs. Chinn was a native of Tattnall County and had been a resident of Brunswick since 1963, coming from Reidsville, GA. She retired from the office of King and Prince Seafood after 45 years of service. She attended Calvary Baptist Church in Brunswick.
Survivors are a son, Maurice Chinn of Atlanta, cousins, Lamont Strickland of Glennville, Thurman Strickland of Savannah, Dora Lee Colson of Claxton, Lenell Sikes of Blackshear, Melba Bugazski of Glennville, and several other cousins.
Funeral Services were held Tuesday, April 28, 2009, in the Chapel of the Edo Miller and Sons Funeral Home with Rev. Earl Parrish officiating. Interment will follow in Palmetto Cemetery.
Active pallbearers were Charley Sikes, Dent Norton, Jonathan Thomas, Charles Sikes, Thurman Strickland and Thel Standard.
Edo Miller and Sons Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Hazel G. Collins, 88

Hazel G. Collins, 88, died Sunday, April 26, 2009, at the Candler County hospital after a short illness. Mrs. Hazel was a member of the Metter First Baptist Church and the Naomi Sunday School Class. She was retired from the Metter Manufacturing, enjoyed sewing, cooking and working in her garden, especially her flowers. She was predeceased by her husband, Dessie Lee Collins.
She is survived by her daughter, Peggy Monroe of Metter; sons and daughter - in - law, Billy Lee and Gerelle Collins of Statesboro, Wayne and Iris Collins of Claxton; sister and brother - in - law, Jean and Grayson Douglas of Metter; seven grandchildren, six great - grandchildren; seven great - great - grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, April 29, 2009, at the chapel with burial following in the Lake Cemetery. Remembrances may be made to Metter First Baptist Church, P.O. Box 34, Metter, GA 30439.

Hilda Virginia Hackle, 70

Hilda Virginia Hackle, 70, passed away April 28, 2009, at her residence. The Tattnall County native lived most of her life in Evans County.
She was a homemaker, a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She was a member of Eastside Baptist Church.
She is survived by her husband, Jan Hackle of Cobbtown; one son and daughter - in - law, Barry and Connie Hackle of Cobbtown; two daughters and sons - in - law, Janilda and Kevin Faircloth and Lisa and Mike DeLoach, all of Collins; one brother, Bobby Sapp of Collins; three sisters, Ruth Waters of Bellville, Jean Thompson of Manassas and Margie Blocker of Claxton; ten grandchildren and their spouses, Alex and Callie Graham, Rachel and Adam Cowart, Clayton Hackle, Melissa Bradley, Jake DeLoach, Chanci DeLoach, Kyle Hackle, Kristopher Faircloth, Virginia Bradley and Annsley DeLoach; great - grandchildren, Molly and Morgan Cowart; and several nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, April 29, 2009, from 6 p.m. until, at Mellie NeSmith Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held Thursday, April 30, 2009, at 11 a.m., at Eastside Baptist Church, with Reverends Gatus Cheatham and Mike Gay officiating. Burial will follow in Evergreen Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Billy Collins, Avery Sapp, Allen Hackle, Jerome Provence, Kerry Kicklighter and Dennis Thompson. Honorary pallbearers were members of the Men’s Senior Adult Sunday school class.

Kathleen Johnson Harvey, 82

Beloved mother, sister and grandmother, Kathleen Johnson Harvey, 82, went to be with Jesus on Friday, April 17, 2009. She was born March 20, 1927, in Odom, GA, the daughter of Otha and Effie Westberry Johnson. February 22, 1947, she married Bill J. Harvey. They were married 49 years at the time of Mr. Harvey’s passing in 1996. Mr. Harvey was employed by the Forestry Service and together they lived at various Division of Forestry Services sites.
Mrs. Harvey was known for her generosity and hospitality. She was loved by all who knew her. She enjoyed cooking for her family. She dearly loved her grandchildren and they loved her. She was a member of Yulee Baptist Church and the Joy Sunday School Class. She was a native of Tattnall County and was raised in Collins, GA.
Mrs. Harvey was also predeceased by her daughter, Cathy Elaine Logan; son, Bill J. Harvey, Jr., and a grandson, James Jerome Nichols, Jr.
She is survived by two daughters and sons - in - law, Cindy and Robert Blitchington of Jacksonville, FL and Shirley and Mark Nunley of Fernandina Beach, FL; one brother and sister - in - law, Freddy and Patsy Johnson of Lyons, GA; three sisters, Essie Lee Mosley of Jesup, GA, Frances Powell and Betty Jean Wilson, both of Reidsville; 11 grandchildren, 11 great - grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Monday, April 20, 2009, at Yulee Baptist Church, in Yulee, Florida, with Reverends Mark Nunley, David Crawford and Michael Fox officiating.
Pallbearers were Scottson Blitchington, Shannon Blitchington, Shawn Blitchington, Alan Van Sickle, Ovid Van Sickle and Adam Logan.
Green Pine Funeral Home, Yulee, Florida, was in charge of the arrangements.

Soon Bok Kim, 94

Soon Bok Kim, 94, passed away Monday, April 20, 2009, at Glenvue Nursing Home. The Korea native had lived in Glennville for the past 23 years. She was a homemaker and attended the Korean Church of Hinesville.
She is survived by her sons and daughters - in - law, Dr. Peter S. and Mary Kim of Honolulu, Hawaii, and Dr. Heejun Gregory and Jungki Madeline Kim of Atlanta; daughter, Ki - Ok Kim of Seoul Korea; seven grandchildren and one great - grandchild.
Funeral services were held Saturday, April 25, 2009, from the Chapel of Brannen Kennedy Funeral Home, with Reverend Chun S. Song and Reverend Vance Riggins officiating. Burial followed in the Glennville City Cemetery.
Brannen Kennedy Funeral Home of Glennville was in charge of the arrangements.

“DC” Danny Livingston Jr., 29

“DC” Danny Livingston Jr., 29, died at his residence Wednesday, April 22, 2009. He was a life long resident of Evans County, a graduate of Claxton High School 1998, and an avid fisherman and hunter.
He is survived by his wife, Julie Smith Livingston; parents, Danny and Kelly Livingston; one brother and sister - in - law, Dustin and Scarlett Livingston; grandparents, Danny and Sandra Gibbs; father - in - law, Johnny Smith of Claxton; mother and father - in - law, Paula and Brian Reid of Reidsville; sister and brother - in - law, Lynn and Kevin Sapp of Claxton; step niece and nephew, Chasity and Chase Dubberly, and a number of aunts, uncles and cousins.
Funeral services were held Saturday, April 25, 2009, at Eastside Baptist Church, with Reverend Gatus Cheatham and Reverend Kenny Edwards officiating. Burial followed at Antioch Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Derek Lanos, Kevin Lanos, Shawn Lanos, Shawn Kicklighter, Edward Oglesbee, Jesse Leggett, Jay Leggett and Brian Palmer.
Remembrances may be made to Antioch Baptist Church, Eastside Baptist Church, or to Evans County C.A.R.E.S.

James Richard Morris, age 93

Mr. James Richard Morris, age 93, passed away Thursday afternoon at the Ogeechee Area Hospice Inpatient Facility. The Collins native had lived in Hinesville for 40 years, prior to moving back to Collins in 1982. He was a World War II Veteran, having served in the Pacific Theater with the 58th Signal Battalion, US Army. He learned carpentry and construction from his father, leading to a career of over 40 years as a Maintenance Supervisor at Fort Stewart, GA, and was widely known for his skills at making all types of wooden doors. He was a life - long member of the First Baptist Church of Collins, and attended the First Baptist Church in Hinesville during his residence there. He valued higher education, encouraged others toward that goal, and was generous with his talents at gardening and carpentry. He valued integrity, hard work and compassion, and lived his life to reflect those qualities. Mr. Morris is preceded in death by wife, Mrs. Jo W. Morris.
He is survived by: his son and daughter - in - law, Frank and Sherlyn Morris of Orange Park, Fl.; a daughter, Nancy Morris of Huntsville, AL; a brother, Louis Morris of Atlanta; two sisters, Julia McComb of North Charleston, SC and Mary Youmans of Cullowhee, NC: and several nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers were Calvin Shuman, Phil Jarriel, Jack Boyett, Mark Collins, Greg Boyett, Don Warren, Wiley Sumner, and Derrell Thigpen.
Funeral Services were conducted Monday, April 27, 2009, from the Chapel of Bradley B. Anderson Funeral Home with Rev. Steve Kimbrell officiating. Interment followed in the First Baptist Church of Collins cemetery with Military Honors.

Barney Sisson, 79

Barney Sisson, 79, died Friday morning, April 10, 2009, at Ogeechee Area Hospice in Statesboro. He lived most of his life in the Cobbtown area and was a member of the Cobbtown Baptist church. Barney loved hunting, fishing, playing music and he always loved a good joke or prank, whether he was on the giving or on the receiving end. He was predeceased by his parents David Ludwick and Leila Mae Fanning Sisson a daughter, Sherri Calloway, a son Zack Sisson, and a grandson Lud Sisson
Survivors include his wife of 58 years, Eloise Sisson of Cobbtown, daughter and son - in - law, Bett and Doug Miller of Batavia, OH, sons and daughter - in - laws, Jimmy and Margaret Sisson of Coleman, Donny and Connie Sisson of Cobbtown; sisters, Evelyn Monroe, Marion Rogers, Helen Sheppard and Ellen Brown, all of Cobbtown, 11 grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
Graveside funeral services were held Monday April 13, 2009, at Sunlight Cemetery.

Mildred Joiner Brannen, 58

Mildred Joiner Brannen, 58, passed away Sunday morning, April 19, 2009, at her daughter’s residence. The Jenkins County native had lived in Savannah for many years, prior to moving to Collins two years ago. She was a homemaker and of the Baptist faith.
She is survived by her daughter and son - in - law, Michelle and Earl Browning of Reidsville; a son, Robert Mercer Cook Jr. of Calhoun; four sisters and brothers - in - law, Jimmie and Joe Williams of Statesboro, Mary Joiner and Martha and James Edenfield, all of Toombs Co. Margie Paulson of Reidsville; brother and sister - in - law, Charles Wayne and Dianna Joiner of Register; two grandchildren, Chasity Evone Spiers and Ashton Hutcheson, both of Reidsville; great granddaughter, Aybrian Spiers of Reidsville, and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services were held Wednesday, April 22, 2009, from the Chapel of Bradley B. Anderson Funeral Home.

Jeannette Stripling Collins (Granny Jet), 80

Mrs. Jeannette Stripling Collins (Granny Jet), 80, died Thursday, April 16, 2009, at Ogeechee Area Hospice after an extended illness. The Metter native was a member of the Metter Presbyterian Church. She lived several years in Ft. Pierce, FL, where she taught school before returning to Metter. Mrs. Jeannette enjoyed crocheting, fishing at the Altamaha River, reading, and working crossword puzzles, but her love was her time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents P.V. and Muriel Kennard Stripling, daughter, Dell Collins Kemp, daughter - in - law June Odom Collins; grandchildren Jennifer Jo (J.J.) Collins and Benjamin Eli Collins III (Little Ben).
Survivors include her son, Ben Collins; sister, Lytell Calhoun; son - in - law George Kemp, all of Metter; grandchildren, Tony Kemp, Mitzi Kemp, Candi Kemp Salter, Brandi Kemp, Jakelyn Collins Guiff, Jamey Kemp, Morgan Collins, Kory Kemp and 11 great grandchildren.
Memorial services were held Sunday April 19, 2009, at Kennedy - Morgan - Brannen Funeral Homes. In lieu of flowers remembrances may be sent to Ogeechee Area Hospice, 200 Donehoo St., Statesboro, Ga. 30458 or Metter Presbyterian Church, 611 S. Lewis St., Metter, GA 30439. Mrs. Jeannette chose to donate her body to Emory University for medical research.
