Homer Fields, 71

Homer Fields, 71, of Normantown died Monday, April 20, 2009, at Community Hospice in Vidalia. A native of Emanuel County, he had lived in Normantown for the past 35 years. He was a carpenter and painter who loved to fish, dance, play cards and go “junkin”. Homer and his late wife, Mary, raised his three daughters and son and her four daughters together. He attended Pendleton Creek Community Church. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Alice Collins Fields, just two weeks ago; two daughters, Linda Holtzclaw and Sandra Lynn Whitehead and a grandson, T. L. Whitehead.
He is survived by five daughters, Terri Newbold, Debbie (Lester) Cartrette and Edith (Mike) Williams all of Normantown; Sandy (Jay) Dominey of Tallahassee, FL and Lynn (Derald) Green of Cobbtown; a son, Chris Fields of Florida; brother, E. L. Fields of Kibbee; sister, Joyce Messex of Vidalia; seven grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held Thursday at 3:00 PM at the Cobbtown Baptist Church with Rev. Gary Roberson officiating. Burial will be in the Sunlight Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Cliff Sikes, Greg Cartrette, Randy Fields, Danny Ray Collins, Larry Dean Collins and Buddy Collins.
Kennedy Funeral Homes, Cobbtown Chapel, is in charge of the arrangements.

Selman Dan “Danny” Waller Jr., 74

Selman Dan “Danny” Waller Jr., 74, passed away Friday, April 17, 2009, in Duluth, GA. The Reidsville native was a 1953 graduate of Reidsville High School and a 1958 graduate of Georgia Tech. He was a former employee of Florida Power & Light Company in Miami and retired from Mingledorff’s, Inc., in Atlanta. Upon retirement, he resided at Lake Sinclair in Putman County. He served in the U.S. Air Force Reserves and was a member of Indian Creek Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his wife, Janice Waller; parents, Dan and Jewel Waller and brothers, Bill Waller and John Woods.
He is survived by his daughter and son - in - law, Danice and Steve Macon of Lawrenceville; son and daughter - in - law, Clay and Kay Waller of Marietta; fiancé, Jerre W. Thomson of Dawsonville; sister and brother - in - law, Judy and Don Cobb of Glennville; sister - in - law, Kim Woods of Reidsville; six grandchildren, one niece and several nephews.
Funeral services were held Monday, April 20, 2009, at Reidsville Baptist Church, with Reverend Sterling Bargeron officiating. Burial followed in Reidsville City Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Keith Cobb, Scott Wilson, Lou Woods, Bill W. Preston, Brian Cobb, Brent Wilson and Chase Macon. Honorary pallbearers were members of Reidsville High School Class of 1953.

Elva Kicklighter Bostic, 87

Elva Kicklighter Bostic, 87, passed away Saturday, April 11, 2009. The Tattnall County native had lived in Miami for many years, prior to moving back to Glennville in 1986. She was a homemaker and a member of the Home - based Family Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Jarva O’Dell Bostic.
She is survived by daughters and sons - in - law, Brenda and Carl Clark and DellAnn and Rusty Harvey, all of Glennville; five grandchildren, five great - grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, April 14, 2009, at 11 a.m., at the Chapel of Brannen - Kennedy Funeral Home, with Reverend John Nunes officiating. Burial followed in the Glennville City Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Larry Stubbs, Adrian Stubbs, Jim Brillhart, Derwood Tootle, Jeff Mills and Jake Mills.

Clyde Lee Burkhalter, 63

Mr. Clyde Lee Burkhalter, 63, of Americus died early Tuesday morning April 14, 2009, at his residence. Mr. Burkhalter was born January 8, 1946, in Tattnall County, GA, the son of the late Eneas “Bud” Whitton Burkhalter and Mamie Louise McElveen Burkhalter. He was a Master Tradesman in the construction business and was of the Baptist Faith.
Mr. Burkhalter is survived by his beloved wife, Susan Jean Burkhalter of Americus; a daughter and son - in - law, Angela Hitt and Gary of Poulan, GA; three sons and daughters - in - law, Lee Burkhalter and Jeannie, David Burkhalter and Angela, all of Claxton, GA, and Frank Butcher and Jennifer of Americus, GA; two brothers, Gene Burkhalter of Claxton, GA, and Cleveland Burkhalter of Savannah, GA. Also surviving are three grandchildren, Maggie Leigh Burkhalter, Cody Dylan Burkhalter and MaKayla Alexis Butcher and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held from the chapel of Aldridge Funeral Services, Thursday morning, April 16, 2009, at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Lance Fendley officiating. Burial will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
Serving as active pallbearers are Wayne Strickland, Jerry Crawley, Paul Parker, Johnny Dawson, Al Erkhart, Jr. and Carl Burkhalter. Honorary Pallbearers are Terry Oglesby, Foy Kirkland, Johnny Battles, Mike Farmer, Jeff Farmer, Robert Harvey and Michael Carter.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home Wednesday evening, April 15, 2009, from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and at other times at the family residence - 212 Maple Street, Americus.
Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Americus and Sumter County, Inc., P.O. Box 1434 Americus, GA 31709.
Aldridge Funeral Services is in charge of these arrangements.

Dennis Elton DeLoach, 61

Dennis Elton DeLoach, 61, died April 13, 2009, at St. Joseph Hospital in Savannah.
Dennis was a native and life - long resident of Evans County. He was a master carpenter by profession and his five boys are following in his footsteps. Dennis loved the thrill of training and racing his thoroughbred horses. He served with the 82nd Airborne at Fort Bragg.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Doris and Elton DeLoach and a brother, Wendell.
He is survived by his wife, Kay S. DeLoach of Claxton; five sons and daughters - in - law, Kile and Debbie, both serving in Iraq at the present time; Cannon and Stephanie of Register, Cal and Katie of Glennville, Cris and Chasity of Claxton, and Casey and Lisa of Claxton; six grandchildren, Kayla, Makenzie, Macie, MyLeigh, Wilton Lee and Elizabeth Claire and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, April 16, 2009, at 11 a.m., at Canoochee Primitive Baptist Church, with Elder Radale Lightsey officiating. The body will lie in state one hour prior to service. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Pallbearers are Jeremy Morris, Scott Eason, Andy Hendrix, David DeLoach, Jason DeLoach and Roy Scott.

Isham (Brother) Johnson, 87

Mr. Isham (Brother) Johnson, 87, passed away on Thursday, April 9, 2009, at the Glenvue Nursing Home in Glennville, GA.
He is survived by a son, Lewis Johnson of Glennville; a niece, Cherry Williams of Jacksonville, FL; a nephew, Charlie Edwards of Glennville, GA, and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held Saturday, April 11, 2009, at St. James AME in Glennville, GA, with burial following in the Robert Chapel cemetery in Glennville.
King and Son’s Funeral Home of Glennville was in charge of the arrangements.

Louise Morgan Mack, 86

The family of Mrs. Louise Morgan Mack, 86, celebrated her homegoing Saturday, April 11 at the Trinity Church of God on Highway 80 in Garden City, Georgia. Mrs. Mack passed away Thursday, April 9, 2009.
Mrs. Mack was born in Toombs County to the late Johnny Christopher and Ella NeSmith Morgan. She was a 56 - year member of Trinity Church of God and retired from Union Camp after 19 years. She was preceded in death by her husband, Buford F. Mack, a grandson, Tony Mack and a great - grandson, Christopher Kawasaki Mack. Mrs. Mack was a faithful member of her church for many years, enjoyed activities and traveling with family and friends and shopping with her daughters.
Survivors include two daughters and sons - in - law, Johnnie Faye and Lonnie Portwood of Jacksonville, FL, and Judy and Gene Oliver of Guyton; two sons and a daughter - in - law, Billy Mack and Dwaine and Dee Mack, all of St. Augustine, FL; grandchildren, Tammy Mack, Penny Ackerman, Keith Portwood, Dereall and Dana Joyner, Candace and Austin Mack; ten great - grandchildren and a number of nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services were held on Saturday, April 11, 2009, at Trinity Church of God on Highway 80 in Garden City, with Dr. Julie Stanley and Rev. Frank Gupton officiating. Interment followed at Sunlight cemetery in Cobbtown, Georgia.
Active pallbearers were Donny Morgan, Mike Mack, Larry Martin, Kenny Mack, Ronny Morgan and Randy Bradham. Honorary pallbearers were James Sikes, Terry Kirksey, Gary Wilkes, Ervin Miller, Toby Screen, and Earl Yarbrough.

Linda Richardson, 55

Mrs. Linda Richardson, 55, of Hinesville, Georgia, passed away peacefully surrounded by family and friends on Saturday, April 11, 2009, at Memorial Medical Center in Savannah, GA.
She was the beloved wife of Wilbert A. Richardson Jr.; beloved daughter of Willie Mae Smith and Clarence Kidd; beloved mother of Robert A. Kidd, Shlinda Jackson, Suriha Richardson, Jasmine Richardson, Wilbert A. Richardson III, and Carl Richardson; beloved sister of Charles Kidd, Cedric Smith, Steven Smith and George Smith. She also leaves behind a host of grandchildren, nieces, nephews and other relatives and friends.
Her life will be celebrated on Saturday, April 18, 2009, at the Mt. Zion Baptist Church, 1370 Shaw Road, Hinesville, GA, at 11 a.m., with burial in the St. Thomas Baptist Church cemetery in Ludowici, GA. Visitation will be held at King and Son’s Funeral Home, Friday, April 17, 2009, from 7 - 8 p.m.

Earl Lemuel Wilkes, 67

Earl Lemuel Wilkes, 67, of Davie, FL, died Tuesday, April 7, 2009, at Memorial Hospital in Pembroke Pines, FL. The Toombs County native was a supervisor for Marks Brothers Construction and had worked for the company since age 17.
Earl loved to hunt and fish but his greatest sport was “chasing women.” He was preceded in death by his parents, Lemmie and Earline P. Wilkes; a brother, Johnnie Wilkes and a sister, Betty Haynes.
He is survived by his children, David Earl Wilkes of Vinton, OH, Skeeter Ernest Wilkes of Davie, FL, and Bambi Lynn Williams of Greenville, SC; brothers, Clayton Wilkes of Gainsville, FL, and Jimmy Wilkes of Hollywood, FL; two sisters, Janice Wilkes and Carol Lawrence both of Vidalia; seven grandchildren and five great grandchildren; and his companion, Helena Daubner of Delray Beach, FL.
Funeral services were held Monday, April 13 at Kennedy Funeral Homes, Cobbtown Chapel with Rev. Henry Dowd officiating. Burial followed in the Wilkes cemetery in Toombs County.

Ann Jane Porter Williams, 78

Mrs. Ann Jane Porter Williams, 78, of Collins, died Sunday, April 12, 2009, at Candler Hospital in Savannah, after an extended illness. She was a life - long resident of Collins and a Baptist.
She is survived by her son, Dan Williams of Collins; two brothers, Ben Porter of Palatka, FL and Don Porter of Macon; one sister, Kate Jernigan of Wilmington, NC, and a grandson, Tommy Williams of Wrightsville, GA.
Funeral services were conducted Wednesday, April 15, at 11 a.m., at the Old Anderson Primitive Baptist Church, with burial following in the church cemetery.
Kennedy - Morgan - Brannen Funeral Home, Cobbtown Chapel, was in charge of the arrangements.
