Nell Smith Waters, 74

Nell Smith Waters, 74, died Thursday, October 22, 2009, at Ogeechee Area Hospice in Statesboro. The Wilcox County native had lived in this area most of her life. She was employed by Glennville Lingerie for many years and was a homemaker.
She is survived by her children, Mike Waters of Glennville, Charlotte Waters of Pooler and Donna Mobley (Gary) of Glennville; sister, Mary Bell of Savannah; grandchildren, Shane Hutchins, Garrett Mobley, Paulie Waters, Cassidi Waters, Kaitlyn Waters and Madalyn Waters; great grandchildren, Alyssa Hutchins and Eli Waters. Several nieces and nephews also survive.
Memorial funeral services were held Sunday, October 25, 2009, from the Chapel of Brannen - Kennedy Funeral Home with Reverend Wendell Miller officiating. Burial was private.
Brannen - Kennedy Funeral Home, Glennville Chapel, was in charge of the arrangements.

Eliza “Mae” Branch, 72

Eliza “Mae” Branch, 72, of Brunswick died Wednesday, October 20, 2010, at the Brunswick Hospital of the Southeast Georgia Health System. Mrs. Mae Branch was a native of Glynn County and worked for many years at the hospital and at Wal - Mart as a door greeter. She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Branch and son Howard Ephram Branch.
She was a member of Pine Haven Baptist Church and the Ladies Sunshine Sunday School class.
Survivors include three sons and daughter - in - laws, Robert C. Sr. and Stephanie Branch of Glennville, Clyde and Joann Branch of Brunswick, and Billy and Loretta Branch of Waynesville; two daughters and son - in - laws, Georgia Merle and Craig Justice of Ivey and Bobby Ester and the late Otis Tucker of Brunswick; two sisters and brothers - in - law, Vina Lee and J.E. Stanfield of Glennville and Mary and Wayne Holland of Reidsville; 15 grandchildren; eight great - grandchildren and two great - great - grandchildren.
Pallbearers were Lloyd Douglas, Dennis Hand, Clarke Wiggins Jr., Ed Wallen, Charlie O’Quinn and Gene Taylor. Honorary pallbearers were members of the Ladies Sunday School class, Jesse and T.P. Jones and employees of Wal - Mart.
Funeral services were held Monday, October 25, 2010, at Pine Haven Baptist Church of Brunswick. Burial followed in the Chapel Park Cemetery.
Brunswick Memorial Park Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Elaine Hutto, 49

Mrs. Elaine Hutto, age 49 passed away Saturday October 23, 2010, at Community Hospice Inpatient Center. The Chicago native had lived in this area most of her life. She was a nurse employed with Pineland
Mental Health. Her hobby was taking care of her grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her father, W.B. “Bill” Hutto.
She is survived by her mother, Mrs. Ruth Hutto of Reidsville; daughters and sons - in - law, Lisa and Randy Holcomb and Heather and Stephen Reese all of Reidsville; sons, Michael and Corey Sugg, both of Reidsville; brother, William “Buddy” Hutto of Reidsville; grandchildren, Cassey, Kaylee, Maliki, Shannon Doah and Zander Reese and Tanner Holcomb.
Funeral services were conducted Tuesday from the Reidsville Chapel of Bradley B. Anderson Funeral Home with Rev. Randy McDuffie officiating. Interment followed in the Reidsville City Cemetery.
Pallbearers were James Reese, Steve Reese, Tyler Treharn, Robert Curl, Jeremy Britt and Kenny Morgan.
Bradley B. Anderson Funeral Home, Reidsville Chapel, served the Hutto family.

Quentin Hampton Kicklighter

Quentin Hampton Kicklighter, resident of Brevard, NC, passed away gently during the night of Oct. 20, 2010. Mr. Kicklighter had moved there six years ago, to be close to his son and family, Sammy, Wendy and Samuel Kicklighter of Pisgah Forest, NC, who had moved there in 2004. He had been a resident at The Oaks of Brevard and previously at Cedar Mt. House, in Cedar Mt. NC. Mr. Kicklighter was a member of the Pisgah Forest Baptist Church congregation.
Mr. Kicklighter was born in the rural town of Glennville in South Georgia, to Samuel Jasper Kicklighter and Eva Belle Stanfield Kicklighter, both of Glennville. He grew up in the Kicklighter house on Caswell St. along with his sister Vondelle Kicklighter. He graduated from Glennville High School in 1936. Next he attended the University of Georgia and graduated there in 1940. Mr. Kicklighter was a faithful and diehard Bulldog fan and loved when Georgia play each fall.
During WWII, he served in the Marine Corps until injured, but then joined the ranks of the US Army, where he served with America’s Greatest Generation. He was in the Persian Gulf when Truman dropped the bomb on Japan. The war ended and soon he was stationed at Kuwait. After the war, he taught agriculture classes to GIs coming home from the war under the GI Bill. He later became a fulltime farmer himself in South Georgia, until his retirement, which was in Savannah, till he moved to North Carolina.
Mr. Kicklighter was a Mason, in the Philadelphia Lodge in Glennville. He was a former member of the Glennville VFW. He was a member of the UGA alumni foundation. He also was a former member of the First Baptist Church of Glennville and served as deacon there. Later Mr. Kicklighter opened a business known as the Edgewood Trailer Park on North 301.
He is survived by his only sister of Auburn Alabama, Vondelle Kicklighter Miles, formerly of Metter; one son Sammy Kicklighter and wife Wendy Kicklighter and one daughter, Jill Kicklighter Hardwick and husband John Hardwick of St. Simons Island; four grandchildren, Samuel Kicklighter of Brevard, NC, Robb Kicklighter and family of Statesboro, GA, Hannah Hardwick and Lauren Hilton, both of St. Simons. Mr. Kicklighter also had one niece, Jan Miles Dempsey, of Auburn, AL and her family, two nephews, John David Miles of Statesboro and family, and Lindsey Paul Miles of Princeton, NJ; numerous cousins all in south GA. and six great - grandchildren, all of whom live in Georgia.
Funeral services will be in Glennville, Thursday, Oct. 28, 2010, with the pastor Danny Hedgepath of First Baptist Church, Brevard, NC, presiding and pastor Michael Howard of the First Baptist church of Glennville assisting. Burial will be in the Georgia Veterans Memorial Cemetery, at 11:00 a.m. with military honors and a memorial service will follow at 12:00 in the sanctuary of First Baptist Church of Glennville. The family will hold a visitation prior and after the memorial at First Baptist Church. All remembrances should go to the benevolence committee of First Baptist Church.

Jerry Wallace Meeks, 48

Mr. Jerry Wallace Meeks, 48, passed away Friday October 1, 2010, in Collins at the home of his sister under the helping hands of Pearls of Life Hospice of Claxton, GA, after a battle with cancer. He had just began a new career as a truck driver with USA Trucking which he was extremely proud of. He had done handy work for many years on his own and was known as "Jack of All Trades, Master of Many." Jerry wasn't currently a member of any church but was a Christian of faith and shared his Lord with everyone he met. He was a self proclaimed Evangelist. He graduated from Swainsboro High School (1989). Following high school he enlisted in the Navy and served for 6 years. He was preceded in death by his father Wallace Edenfield, Jr. of Emanuel County.
He is survived by his mother Gwen Farmer of Collins, four sisters and brother - in - laws - Vicki (Tommy) Moser of Collins, Gina (Allan) Cline of Gainsville, Wendy (Gary) Harvey of Ellabelle, Janeese (Mark) Balsemo of Hastings, Minn. five nieces, three nephews, and several great nieces and a great nephew and several aunts, uncles and cousins. The family will receive friends Monday evening between the hours of 6 and 8 pm. at the Funeral Home.
Funeral services were held 2:00 p.m., Tuesday, October 5, 2010, in the Chapel of Tomlinson Funeral Home with Mike James and Rev. Andrew Nelms officiating. Interment followed in the Stillmore City Cemetery, with Military Honors.
Pallbearers were Louie Jarriel, Jimmy Moser, Terry Moser, Darrell Leopard, Greg Powell, Donnie Hudson. Honorary Pallbearers were various riders. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Pearls of Life Hospice of Claxton, GA, Rogers Baptist Church Building Fund (in Collins), Collins Full Gospel Tabernacle Building Fund or the American Cancer Society.
Tomlinson Funeral Home Savannah was in charge of arrangements.

Earnton Mosley Sr., 78

Earnton Mosley Sr., 78, of Riviera Beach, FL, passed away peacefully at VA Hospital in West Palm Beach on October 23, 2010. He was a veteran of the Korean War. After 30 years, he retired from Pratt & Whitney Aircraft.
He leaves behind a loving and devoted wife of nearly 56 years, Hattie M. Mosley; son and daughter - in - law, Earnton Jr. and Debra Mosley; four daughters and sons - in - law, Minister Gloria and Lucius Glynn, Melinda and Arnold Warthen, Latishia Mosley Arnette and Charissa (Nelson) Tavares; three brothers, and sisters - in - law, Scott Mosley Jr., Tollie and Faye Mosley Sr., both of Savannah, Quinton and Wanda Mosley of Reidsville; four sisters, Eva Moore and Clanzie Williams, both of Reidsville, Charlene Mosley of Savannah, and Treat Brown of Jacksonville, FL; one brother - in - law, Jessie Young of Hagan; one sister - in - law, Margie Mosley of Albany, NY; 11 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; a host of loving relatives, friends, and special friends, James Hicks, Eddie Thomas, Tony Dupree and Marion Duggans.
Funeral services will be held Saturday, October 30, 2010, at 10 a.m., at Orthodox Zion Primitive Baptist Church, 2900 N. Australian Ave. West Palm Beach, FL, 33407. Interment to follow at Royal Palm Memorial Gardens.

Len Vincent Salvo, 83

Len Vincent Salvo, 83 passed away Saturday, October 23, 2010, at his residence under the care of his family and Ogeechee Area Hospice. The Flint, MI, native had lived in Florida for many years before moving to Glennville several years ago. He was retired from the Navy as Naval Commander with 30 years of service; he also served in the Merchant Marines and Coast Guard in World War II. During his service to his country he was stationed in many ports in the world to include the Philippines, Okinawa, the Mariana Islands, Guam, New Guinea, England and Germany. After retiring from the Navy he started his own business designing and building homes and other business in south Florida. He was of the Catholic Faith.
He is survived by the love of his life, Ida Katherine Dreggors Ward of Glennville; his children, Renee and Michael White and Joni and Albert Taylor, all of Lutz, FL, Loi and Jamie Hamm of Winterville, NC, and Len V. Salvo Jr. of Land of Lakes, FL; brothers, Phillip Salvo of Lutz, FL, Jim and Marge Salvo of Vancouver, WA; sister - in - law, Frances Salvo of Lutz, FL; seven grandchildren; six great - grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday, October 29, 2010, at Georgia Veterans Memorial cemetery with full military honors.
Remembrances may be to Ogeechee Area Hospice, P. O. Box 531, Statesboro, GA 30458.

Helen Sisson Hassol Callaway Sheppard, 76

Helen Sisson Hassol Callaway Sheppard, 76, died Monday October 18, 2010, under the care of Ogeechee Area Hospice. The native of Tattnall County was a member of Rogers Baptist Church. Mrs. Helen was the executive secretary for the warden at Rogers State Prison and worked several years at the Brown Bank. She enjoyed cooking, playing cards, crocheting and serving others. Helen loved her family, her church and after visiting her home for the first time you were considered family from then on.
Survivors include her children, Douglas and Debbie Hassol of Collins, Tracie H. and Dean Webster of Lancaster, SC, Nancy C. and Kevin Brazell of Claxton, Hicks “Chip” and Ihori Callaway of Claxton; sisters, Evelyn S. Monroe, Marion S. Rogers and Ellen S. Brown, all of Cobbtown; grandchildren, Benjamin D. and Ter`e Hassol, Deanna Webster, Leila Maricle Price, Ryan and Rhianon Brazell, Tyler Brazell, Kai Callaway; great - grandchildren, Bel Hassol and Jackson Dean Brazell.
Memorial services were held Friday, Oct. 22, at Rogers Baptist church with burial following in the Sunlight Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to Ogeechee Area Hospice 200 Donehoo St., Statesboro, GA 30458 or American Cancer Society 1515 Denmark St. Ste.500, Statesboro, GA 30458.
Kennedy - Morgan - Brannen, Cobbtown Chapel, was in charge of the services.

Leon Bacon, 49

Mr. Leon Bacon, 49 of Glennville, Georgia passed away Friday, October 15, 2010 at the East Georgia Regional Medical Center in Statesboro, Ga. He attended the public school in Tattnall County and was a member of Belauh #1 Baptist Church in Glennville, Ga.
He is survived by his wife: Mrs. Joyce Ann (Sissy) Bacon of Glennville, Georgia. Eight children: Deshannon Manigualt of California. Amy Cooper, Deonta Tootle, Dashawn Tootle, Justin Walker, Samone Tootle, Denesha Murphy and Katilia Murphy all of Glennville, Ga. and seven grandchildren. His mother: Mrs. Dollie Ann Bacon of Glennville, Ga., six sisters: Delanne Bacon, Annie (Anthony) Smith, Sheila (Amilio) Ford all of Glennville, Ga. Vicki McKenzie, Renee Bacon both from Reidsville, Ga. Five brothers: Jack (Laura) Bacon of Glennville, Ga., Willie Lee (Redell) Bacon of Ellabell, Ga., Clarence Bostic, Steven Bacon both of Reidsville, Ga. and Percy Lee (Jackie) Bacon of Hinesville, Ga. His mother and father - in - law: Gary and Annette Tootle of Glennville, Ga. and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, October 20, 2010 at 1:00pm at Belauh#1 Baptist Church in Mendes with burial in the Robert Chapel Cemetery.

Laura Mulling Cook, 96

Laura Mulling Cook, 96, died Wednesday, October 13, 2010, at Cedar Plantation. Funeral services were held Saturday, October 16, 2010, at 2 p.m., at the Metter United Methodist Church with burial in the Lake Cemetery. Remembrances may be made to the Metter United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 595, Metter, GA 30439. Kennedy Funeral Homes, Hooks Chapel, in Metter, was in charge of the arrangements.

Elnoria Lane, 50

Ms. Elnoria Lane, 50, of Jacksonville, FL, passed away Friday, October 15, 2010. She attended the public schools in Jacksonville, and graduated from the Job Corp Training Center in Jacksonville. She was a member of the New Birth Missionary Baptist Church in Jacksonville.
She is survived by one son, Jerry Burch Lane of Jacksonville; two daughters, Demetris Dixon and Betty Lane both of Jacksonville; and four grandchildren; one sister, Mrs. Mary (Larry) Goggins of Jacksonville; six brothers, Willie Lee Lane, Elder Tony (Evonne) Lane, Jeffery Lane, Homer (Arrabelle) Lane all of Jacksonville, Roger (Mary) Lane of Orlando, FL., and Henry Byrd of Glennville; two aunts, Mrs. Novella (Ruben) King of Glennville, and Mrs. Susie Mae Williams of Brunswick; four uncles, L.V. Wright of Callahan, FL, Glenn Wright of Lambertsville, NJ, Hoarce Wright of SC, and Ernest Wright of Patterson, NJ, and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral service will be held Saturday, October 23, 2010, at 11:00 a.m. at the Center of Life – Church of God in Glennville, with burial in the Old Halltown cemetery in Glennville. Wake services will be held Friday, October 22, 2010, from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m.
