Ann L. Colson, 61
Ann L. Colson, 61, passed away October 3, 2010, at Memorial University Hospital in Savannah.
She was a native of Lyons, Toombs County, but lived in Evans County for most of her life. She was a member of Eastside Baptist Church, but attended Collins Chapel in Lyons, GA. She was a devoted and loving wife, mother, grandmother and great - grandmother.
Survivors include her husband, William “Bill” Colson Jr., of Claxton; two daughters and sons - in - law, Chanlyn Colson and Robert Maroney of Leesville, SC., and Charlene Colson and Alan Price of Gilbert, SC; one brother and sister - in - law, Cecil and Hong O’Neal of Toombs County; five sisters, Vera Conley, Ethel Hood, Wanda Emanuel (Archie), Geneva Sharpe (Leroy), and Frances Youmans (C.M.), all of Toombs County; two grandsons, Bailey O. Colson and Brandon L. Maroney; one granddaughter, Sidney Grace Price; one step - granddaughter, Courtney Maroney Kirkland (Rusty); one step - grandson, Kodi Alan Price (Madison); one step - great - grandson, Walker A. Kirkland; one step - great - granddaughter, Blythe S. Price; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, October 7, 2:00 p.m., at J. Mellie NeSmith Funeral Home Chapel, with burial to follow at Brewton Cemetery, Hagan, GA.

D. J. (Jack) DuRose, 71
D. J. (Jack) DuRose, 71, died Monday, October 4, 2010, at his residence under the care of Ogeechee Area Hospice. The New York native retired from the U.S. Army after 30 years, and also retired from Civil Service in 1993. He had lived in this area most of his life and was a member and deacon of Stoney Hill Free Will Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his wife, Eunice Blocker DuRose, two sisters and five brothers.
Survivors include his daughters and sons - in - law Tammy D. and Tommy Rogers of Glennville and Debbie D. and Dean Bland of Glennville; sisters: Sylvia, Sam and Lois, all of New York; brother, Jimmy DuRose of Florida; sisters - in - law, Myrtle Lee Futch and Jean Gumm, both of Glennville; grandchildren, Travis and Kristen Rogers, Denine and Greg Durrence, Dena and Matt Smith, and Tiffany Rogers and James Alexander; step - grandson, Chase McCloud; great - grandsons, Gage Durrence and Baby Smith; special friend, Kelly Potter and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, October 6, 2010, from the chapel of Brannen - Kennedy Funeral Home with Rev. Harris Nix and Rev. Gordon Parrish officiating. Burial followed in Glennville City cemetery with full military honors.

Ardith Todd Durrence, 76
Mrs. Ardith Todd Durrence, age 76, passed away Thursday September 30, 2010, at her residence. The Florida native had lived in this area most of her life. She was retired from Tattnall Memorial Hospital and was a member of the Reidsville United Methodist Church. Mrs. Durrence was preceded in death by her son, Randy Durrence.
She is survived by a daughter and son - in - law, Cyndee and Roland Bass of Lyons; three sons and daughter - in - laws, Beuford Durrence of Hinesville, Dale and Joy Durrence of Glennville and Gary and Darla Durrence of Glen St. Marys, FL.; two sisters, Monelle Harrison of Ludowici and Bonnie Hill of Mobile, AL; ten grandchildren, 15 great - grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers were David Todd, Stevie Durrence, Dennis Durrence, David Durrence, Dusty James, and Greg Durrence.
Funeral services were conducted Sunday, October 3, 2010, from the Reidsville Chapel of Bradley B. Anderson Funeral Home with the Reverends Marc Foster and Sterling Bargeron officiating. Burial followed in the Pineview Baptist Church Cemetery.

Norma Jean Bowen Hamm, 51
Norma Jean Bowen Hamm, age 51 passed away Thursday, September 30, 2010, at Hospice of Savannah.
The Florida native had lived in this area most of her life. She graduated from the Reidsville High School and was a homemaker. She is preceded in death by her husband, John Hamm and a brother, David Bowen.
She is survived by her parents, Bobby and Dorothy Bowen of Collins; son, Jason Hamm of Florida; sisters, Carol Jean McCarty of Reidsville and Lisa Douglas of Alma; brothers, Robert Bowen of Cobbtown, Jaime Bowen of Reidsville and Jesse Bowen of Denver, CO; two aunts, Anita Myers of Collins and Katie Berrian of Alaska, and several nieces and nephews.
Graveside funeral services were conducted Saturday, October 2, 2010, from the Collins Baptist Church Cemetery, with the Reverend Bill Brown officiating.

Mamie Lou Smith Harris, 64
Mrs. Mamie Lou Smith Harris, 64, of Reidsville, passed away Friday, October 1, 2010, at the Doctors Hospital in Reidsville. She has done and helped all she could and God said it was time for rest. He sent his angels to rapture up his servant, Sis. Mamie Lou Smith - Harris, to a home in glory the morning of Friday, October 1. Her sunrise came on February 2, 1946, to the late Robert “R. C.” and Emma Lou Smith in Reidsville. Lovingly known as “Ms. Chancellor” to her family and “Mamie Lou” to some and others, she will be remembered for her kind - heartedness through willingness to open her home to those in need of shelter, giving aide to family and friends, helping out in any way she could to everyone she could, and sharing all she had with various people throughout the neighborhood. Mamie was a member of the Tattnall Co. Industrial High School’s graduating class of 1964 and a faithful member of St. Phillip M. B. Church, which she joined at an early age. She served as a choir member for many, many years until her health would no longer permit. However, she did not let this prevent her from attending church regularly and studying the word of God. She was loved by many and a friend to all.
Surviving to treasure her memory is her only child, a daughter, Katina Smith - Madison (Carlton) who was her pride and joy; along with her adored grandchildren, Gregory Turnquest, Camaron Madison, and Carlton Madison II, all of Reidsville, Antoine Jones and Ariel Carter, both of Valdosta; and her grandchildren in love, Tymorion McKever of Valdosta, and little Syesha E. D. Thomas of Glennville. She also leaves to mourn her former husband and friend for life, Eddie Harris of Anaheim, CA. Also to share in her memory are two sisters: Jacklyn Smith of Reidsville, and Lavern Walker of Jacksonville, FL; four brothers: Willie (Gwendolyn) Smith, Raymond Smith, James Smith, and Herbert Smith, all of Reidsville; six aunts, Lurena (Carl) Hamilton and Louise Jackson, both of West Palm Beach, FL, Elizabeth Edwards of Jacksonville, FL; Netherie Smith and Nail Smith, both of Reidsville; a special niece, Penny Lewis of Lake City, FL; three special nephews, Deon Walker (loved as a son) of McRae, GA, Chris Walker of Jacksonville, and great - nephew Jonathan “J.T.” Taylor of Lyons; three step - sisters, Sarah Lawrence of Statesboro, Lillie Lee and Alice Faye Smith of Florida; one step - brother, James Atmore of Plainfield, NJ; several more nieces and nephews, along with a host of cousins and friends.
Funeral services will be held Sunday, October 10, 2010, at St. Phillips Baptist Church in Reidsville, with burial to follow in the Sandhill Cemetery.
No wake services and viewing will be held one hour before the services and after the eulogy.

Camron Blake Ray, 22
Camron Blake Ray, 22, died Sunday, October 3, 2010, in Glennville. The Baxley native had lived in this area most of his life and was a 2006 graduate of Tattnall County High School.
Survivors include his parents, Hal Ray of Glennville and Julie Vaughn of Baxley; son, Avery Blake Ray of Miami, FL; paternal grandparents, Howard and Edith Ray of Glennville; maternal grandmother, Juanita Hopkins of Baxley and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m., Thursday, October 7, 2010, from the chapel of Brannen - Kennedy Funeral Home with Rev. Ernest Dyal officiating. Burial will follow in Watermelon Creek Baptist Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Kevin Howard, Daniel Knight, Thomas Tarver, Mike Anderson, Paul Adams and Jeremy Ray.

Carolyn S. Rewis, 82
Mrs. Carolyn S. Rewis, a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister and aunt, passed away Wednesday, September 29, 2010, at Ogeechee Area Hospice in Statesboro at the age of 82. The Tattnall County native had lived in Reidsville most of her life. She was retired from Federal Civil Service, having worked at Fort Stewart for 30 years.
Mrs. Rewis was a member of the Reidsville United Methodist Church where she sang in the choir and was a MYF leader for many years. She was Cub Scout Den Mother and a member of the Eastern Star. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles K. Rewis; brothers, Bill and Jack Strickland; sisters, Jacquelyn Bradt and Latrelle Troup.
She is survived by two sons and daughters - in - law, Eddie and Penny Rewis of Reidsville and Teddy and Kay Rewis of Jackson, GA; five grandchildren, Corrie Rewis Gee, Kasie Rewis, Josh Rewis, Russell Rewis and Misti - Dawn Rewis; great grandchildren, Samford and Sadie Ruth Gee, and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were conducted Friday from the Reidsville United Methodist Church with the Reverends Marc Foster and Sterling Bargeron officiating. Interment followed in the Reidsville City Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Bill, Henry, Jim, and Jackie Strickland, Bobby Bradt and Dr. Chris Troup.

Mr. Edward E. Scudder, 60, of Claxton, Ga. passed away at the Ogeechee Area Hospice Center in Statesboro. He was a member of New Fellowship Baptist Church in Glennville.
He is survived by his wife Mrs. Jeanette Scudder of Claxton; five daughters and one son - in - law, Stephanie Scudder, Tina Scudder, Jessica Scudder and Bridgett Wallace all of Atlanta, and Cynthia and Keith Wright of Pooler; one son, Edward Scudder Jr. of Sparta, GA; three sisters, Jannie Kellogg, Sheila Liscombs and Linda Scudder all of Atlanta; three brothers, Jerry Robinson, Robert Price and David Morris, all of Atlanta; 13 grandchildren and four great - grand children and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 9, 2010, at the New Fellowship Baptist Church in Glennville, with burial in the St. Thomas Baptist Church cemetery.
Visitation and viewing will be held Friday, October 8, 2010, from 12:00 - 7:00 p.m. No wake services.

James Rubin (Nicky) Wilds, 73, died Wednesday, September 29, 2010, at Ogeechee Area Hospice Inpatient Center in Statesboro. The Tattnall County native had lived in this area most of his life. The retired truck driver loved fishing and spending time with his family.
He is survived by his daughters and son - n - law, Vickie Wilds of Austin, GA, and Carol and Scott Peebles of Claxton; sons, Gary Anderson of Ranger, TX, Johnny Anderson of Biloxi, MS; special friend, Erma McGlashan of Claxton; eight grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.
Memorial services were held Friday, October 1, 2010, at 2 p.m., at Brannen - Kennedy Funeral Home in Reidsville. Burial was private.
