Lois Faye Holley Corbitt, 51

Lois Faye Holley Corbitt, age 51, passed away Thursday August 19, 2010, at St. Jospeh’s Hospital in Savannah. The Vidalia native had lived in Toombs County most of her life and was a homemaker. She was preceded in death by her parents, Harry and Jerlene Kersey Holley.
She is survived by her daughter, Courtney Paige Garten of Cochran; sons, Robert Elijah Wood of Vidalia, Robert Earl Wood Jr. and his wife Molly of Baxley and Reggie Wood of Vidalia; sisters, Doris Garten of Warner Robbins, Christine Hammock of Vidalia, Susan Floyd of Lyons, Kathy Collins of Statesboro, and Myrtice Power of Brunswick; 12 grandchildren and numerous nephews.
Graveside funeral services were conducted Sunday, August 22, 2010, from the Blocker’s Chapel cemetery in Toombs County.
Bradley B. Anderson Funeral Home, Reidsville Chapel was in charge of the funeral arrangements.

Troy Wayne Lanier, 72

Troy Wayne Lanier, age 72, of Black River Falls, WI, and formerly of Reidsville died Thursday, August 19, 2010, in St. Mary’s Hospital, Rochester, MN.
Troy Wayne Lanier was born on September 12, 1937, in Swainsboro, GA, to Troy and Wilma (Higgs) Lanier and was raised in the Reidsville area.
He later moved to Racine, WI, where he was employed by Twin Disc for 30 years until retiring. He also owned and operated his own roofing company in Racine. After retiring, Wayne was employed as a truck driver hauling live chickens. He also was employed as a bartender at the Corner Bar in Merrillan, WI, and had owned and operated the 400 Club at Millston, WI. At the time of his death, he was employed in the maintenance department of the Ho - Chunk Health Clinic at Black River Falls.
Wayne was a U.S. Army veteran having served from March 8, 1956, to November 7, 1957.
He married the former Sandra Mudd Conant on May 21, 2004, in Las Vegas, NV. The couple has lived in the Town of Manchester, Jackson County, WI, since their marriage.
Wayne was a very active individual who had many hobbies and interests. He enjoyed hunting (especially deer and turkey), fishing, playing pool, cooking, gardening, spending time with his dogs, playing horseshoes, watching television game shows and westerns, camping, traveling, four - wheeling, and attending Country Fest.
He was a life member of the Millston - Knapp Sportsmen’s Club and was a member of the Jackson County Tavern League and the National Turkey Federation. He also was a former member of the Moose Lodge of Racine.
Survivors include his wife, Sandy; two daughters and a son - in - law, Julie and James Vanswol and Shelly Trucke both of Black River Falls; a son and daughter - in - law, Troy Wayne and Tammy Simon of San Jacinto, CA.; three step - children, Candace (A.J.) Sims, Susan (Brad) Sanborn, and Kevin (Leslie) Conant all of Black River Falls; 13 grandchildren; four great grandchildren; a sister, Caroline Bragg of Reidsville; two brothers, Larry (Joyce) Lanier of Lebanon, Tennessee and Bryant Lanier of Collins; and numerous other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Jeffery Allen Lanier: and a brother, J. W. Lanier.
Funeral services, followed by military honors, were held on Sunday, August 22, 2010, at the Buswell Funeral Home, Black River Falls. Rev. Terry Marg officiated.

Lloyd E. “Toby” Manuel, 86

Lloyd E. “Toby” Manuel, 86, of Metter died Sunday, August 15, 2010, at his home under the care of Ogeechee Area Hospice. He was born in Bulloch County, the son of Ed and Ella Belle Manuel. Toby retired with the Department of Transportation and was a member of the Georgia Department of Transportation Engineers Association. After his retirement, he worked many years with Kennedy Funeral Homes. He had a passion for shiny new cars and enjoyed listening to music and dancing in his younger years. Toby will be remembered for his wonderful smile, a kind and gentle spirit and his laughter. He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Jean Webber Manuel; brothers and a sister, Walt Manuel, Roy Manuel, Forrest Manuel and Evelyn M. Strange.
Survivors are two sons and a daughter - in - law, Terry and Jennifer Manuel, and Rex Manuel; grandchildren, Brooke M.Carter and Jordan Manuel; and his little girls, great grandchildren, Regan and Natalie Carter all of Metter; sisters, Betty M. Bell of Metter and Mae M.(Grady) McClain of Statesboro; sisters - in - law, Sarita Manuel of Metter and Jeanette Eubanks of Aiken, SC; brothers - in - law, Silas Webber of Cobbtown and Lewis Webber of Jacksonville, FL; and his devoted caregiver, Inez Thomas.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, at Kennedy Funeral Homes, Hooks Chapel, with Elder Ron Yeakle officiating. Burial followed in the Lake Cemetery. Pallbearers were Bill Hammock, Eddie Kemp, Joseph Lawrence, Carl Sparks, Michael Parker and Gene Manuel. Remembrances may be made to Ogeechee Area Hospice, POB 531, Statesboro, GA 30459 or Metter Primitive Baptist Church Building Fund, POB 672, Metter, GA 30439.

Bennie D. Mills, 78

Bennie D. Mills, 78, died Monday, August 23, 2010, at Candler County Hospital. The Cobbtown native was the son of Willie Bill Mills and Mary Ellen Powell Mills. He returned to Cobbtown in 2005 from Effingham County upon retirement from Aaction Auto Parts as a mechanic. Bennie was a kind gentle man who loved music, dancing and telling good jokes. He was a wonderful daddy and granddaddy and faithfully attended the Cobbtown United Methodist Church. Bennie was preceded in death by his wife, Mardell Mills; his parents; twin infants; siblings, Dan Powell, Lester E. Mills, W.Louis Mills and Ella Belle Huggins.
Survivors are sons, Ben Larry Mills of Rincon and Jerry Dean Mills of Perry; daughters and sons - in - law, Betty Ruth and T.L. Quinney of Port Wentworth, Linda Jean and Gregg Jones of Rincon; a brother, Frank “Freight Train” Mills of Cobbtown; a cousin and dear friend, Euna Mae Powell Oglesby; six grandchildren and five great grandchildren.
Memorial funeral services were held Wednesday, at the Cobbtown United Methodist Church with Rev. Joey Holloway officiating.

Bettye J. Phillips, 73

Bettye J. Phillips, 73, died August 18, 2010, at the Pavillion of Appling County Health Care System. The Wayne County native had lived in Baxley and Glennville most of her life. She was a homemaker and a member of Hopewell United Methodist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, S. J. and Millie Jane Hardee; a brother, Eugene Hardee; and her husband, Mack Phillips.
Survivors include her children, Dewey and Kathy Edwards of Gainesville, GA, Monty and Debra Edwards of Baxley, Greg Edwards of Surrency, Sue and Pink Renu of Rincon, Linda DeLoach of Garden City; brothers, William E. Hardee of Surrency and Joseph L. Hardee of Orlando, FL; 10 grandchildren, three great - grandchildren and numerous other relatives.
Graveside funeral services were held Friday, August 20, 2010, at Glennville City cemetery with Elder Jerry Lightsey officiating.
Pallbearers were Phillip Edwards, David Bryant, Matthew Edwards, Zand Murphy, Stephen Edwards, and Oliver Hall.

Elizabeth Smith, 86

Elizabeth Smith, 86, passed away Tuesday, August 17, 2010, at Glenvue Health and Rehabilitation surrounded by her family and under the loving care of Southern Care Hospice. The Telfair County native had lived in Glennville most of her life. She and her husband owned and operated Yorke Motel and Restaurant in Lyons for many years before retiring back to Glennville. A member of the Glennville First Baptist Church, she is preceded in death by parents, Mr. and Mrs. J.S. Allen, brother, Raymond Allen, and husband, Lowell Banks “Smitty” Smith.
She is survived by her daughter, Cynthia Allen Smith of Clearwater Beach, FL; sisters and brother - in - law, Ruth Sands and Edna and Gennis Folsom, all of Glennville, Sarah Whatley of Fitzgerald, GA, and Lucy Stevenson of Eastman, GA; grandchildren, Benjamin Milburn Brumby of Baltimore, MD, and Adrian Banks Brumby of Orlando, FL; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Friday, August 20, 2010. Burial followed at Glennville City Cemetery.
Remembrances may be made to Southern Care Hospice 2311 E. 1st St. Suite B, Vidalia, GA. 30474.
Pallbearers were Jeffery Folsom, Martin O’Donnell, Ben Brumby, Raymond “Butch” Block, Caleb Folsom and David DeLoach.

LaConya Tiease Coley, 27

Miss LaConya Tiease Coley, 27, passed away Sunday, August 15, 2010, at Candler Hospital in Savannah. She was native of Long County and a graduate of the class of 2005 of Long County High School. She was a member of Faith Temple#2 in Glennville.
She is survived by her parents: Louvanda Porter of Glennville and Hilton LaNorris (Maxine) Coley of Reidsville; a brother, LaNorris Mantrell (Raven) Coley of Glennville; a sister, Laneisa Porter of Glennville; grandparents, Mrs. Sarah Cox of Glennville, and Mrs. Yvonne (Robert) Primous of Reidsville; also a host of aunts, uncles, other relatives and friends.
No wake and no viewing. The body will lie in repose one hour before the services. Funeral services will be held Saturday, August 21, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. at Faith Temple#2 in Glennville, with burial following in the Green Cypress cemetery in Claxton.

Kenneth “Doc” Holliday, 78

Kenneth “Doc” Holliday, 78, died Monday, August 16, 2010, at Candler Hospital in Savannah. The Oklahoma native moved to this area in 1970 and had lived in the Glennville and Baxley areas. He was an avid outdoorsman, enjoying hunting and fishing, and was a musician who could play many instruments. He was a U.S. Army Combat Veteran of the Vietnam War, retiring after 22 years of service with the military. He was a member of the Glennville VFW Post #8379 and a member of Covenant Church in Baxley.
Survivors include his wife, Earlene Jackson Holliday of Baxley; children, Eddy and Cay Holliday, Dan and Patsy Holliday and Bonnie Andrews, all of Glennville; Cindy and Lee Helms of Dallas, TX, Wanda Jackson, Jimmy and Ann Jackson, Terry and Kim Jackson, Jamie and Redonnia Jackson, all of Baxley; sisters, Teena Todd of Velma, OK, and Pat Keehn of Albin, OK; 17 Grandchildren, 19 Great - Grandchildren and numerous other relatives.
Funeral Services will be 11:00 a.m., Thursday, August 19, 2010, from the Chapel of Brannen - Kennedy Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Stoney Hill Baptist Church cemetery with full military honors.
Pallbearers will be Andy Hartley, Shane Holliday, Chris Lightsey, Johnnie Andrews, Choo - Choo Griffin, and Stephen Griffie. Honorary pallbearers will be Baxley Church of God Senior Citizens Group, Members of VFW Post #8379, Lou Vadala, Jerome Johnson, Bob Adams, and Darie Randall.

Nancy Tootle Way, 86

Mrs. Nancy Tootle Way, age 86, of Glennville, passed away, Wednesday August 11, 2010, at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Savannah. She was born March 18, 1924, to the late Ernest and Annie Tootle in Tattnall County and attended the public school system in the county. At an early age she joined the First African Missionary Baptist Church in Glennville.
She leaves to cherish her memories two daughters, Bevcrly Doe and Marcella Mincey both of Glennville; two sons, Clayton Way of Raiford, FL, and Dale Way of Glennville. (Two other sons preceded her in death, Charlie and Robert Jackie Way.); three sisters, Deloris Mincey, Johnnie Mae Moody both of Glennville, and Geraldine Miller of Miami; 26 grandchildren and a host of great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and a special adopted son, David Huiett, of Glennville.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, August 14, 2010, at the First African Baptist Church in Glennville. Burial followed at the Robert Chapel cemetery in Tyson.

Kaleb Eugene Durrence, 16

Kaleb Eugene Durrence, 16, died Sunday, August 8, 2010. He was born in Savannah, on August 24, 1993, and lived in Glennville all of his life. He was a Junior at Tattnall County High School, a member of the FFA and the high school guitar class. He was an avid motorcycle rider and guitar player and loved the outdoors, including hunting and fishing.
He is preceded in death by his grandmothers, Lutrelle Durrence and Rosemary Armstrong Wofford.
Survivors include his parents, Kyle Durrence and Leisha Durrence, both of Glennville; sister, Jessica Ann Durrence and brother, Alex Durrence, both of Glennville; paternal grandfather, Eugene Durrence of Glennville; aunt and uncle, Lynne and Denver Taylor; aunt, Pam Durrence of Glennville; uncles, Ron Taylor and David Wofford; cousins, Tiffany Taylor, Lindsay, Zac, Dalton and Austin Taylor; and several other relatives.
Visitation will begin at 5:00 p.m., Friday, August 13, 2010, at Brannen - Kennedy Funeral Home.
Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, August 14, 2010, at the Tattnall County High School Gymnasium. Burial will be in the Harmony United Methodist Church Cemetery.
