Ellis W. Hall, 84

Ellis W. Hall, 84, passed away Friday, August 06, 2010, at Carl Vinson V.A. Medical Center in Dublin. He was born December 13, 1925, in Ludowici, GA. to Thomas Capel and Katharine Hall. He was a World War II Veteran, serving in the Coast Guard and the Merchant Marines. He was a heavy equipment mechanic employed with ITT Rayonier Land Management for many years.
He is survived by his wife, Bertie Ruth Hall of Soperton, GA.; children, Joseph A. (Charlotte) Hall of Glennville, Elizabeth K. (Phillip) Jones of Wrightsville, GA, and Henry W. Hall; and several grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Graveside Funeral Services were held Monday, August 9, 2010, at Bagg’s cemetery in Ludowici, Georgia
Honorary Pallbearers members of Coast Guard and Merchant Marines of World War II.
Brannen Kennedy Funeral Home of Glennville was in charge of the arrangements.

Naomi “Ruth” Smith Josey, 80

Naomi “Ruth” Smith Josey passed away Thursday, August 5, 2010. in North Little Rock, AR, after a short battle with cancer. Ruth was the daughter of Minnie E. (Strickland) and James P. Smith, born June 27, 1930, in Savannah. She grew up in the Hinesville area, later moving to Ft. Lauderdale, FL. After the death of her husband, John, Ruth returned to Glennville where she lived for 18 years and was an active member of the Glennville First Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband John L. Josey and brothers, James P. Smith Jr. and Valdemar E. (Lillian) Smith. Survivors include her daughter, Johnna J. (Jerry) Davis; granddaughters, Danniell N. (Joseph) Homan, and Chrissie L. Davis; two great - grandsons, Jackson Homan and Charles Homan, all of Sherwood, AR. She is also survived by niece, Valerie E. (Ted) Brown and nephew, James E. (Della) Smith, both of DeRidder, LA. Other survivors include her extended family of cousins, brothers and sisters - in - law, nieces and nephews, and her special friend, Angel.
The family would like to extend thanks to all of Ruth’s many loving friends and relatives for the numerous calls, cards and prayers that meant so much to her in her final days. Also, thanks to the kind caregivers at Robinson Nursing Home in North Little Rock, AR. And, a special thanks to her dear friend, Lana Harvey.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, August 10, 2010, at the Chapel of Brannen Kennedy Funeral Home with Rev. Mike Howard and Rev Camille Josey officiating. Burial followed in Hinesville Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Troy Rahn, Gene Wilds, Terry Quick, Vernon Dasher, Terrell Futch and Jeff Odom.

Golda M. Lanier, 89

Mrs. Golda M. Lanier, age 89, of 6385 Ga. Hwy 178 Lyons, New Branch community, died Monday afternoon, August 9, at her daughter’s residence after an extended illness. Mrs. Lanier was a native and lifelong resident of Toombs County and was a homemaker. She was active in the New Branch Community all of her life and was a member of the New Branch Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, E.F. (Jink) Lanier and by two of her children, Lou Ann Lanier Culberson and Dicky Lanier.
Mrs. Lanier is survived by one daughter and son - in - law, Joyce and Gregg Maybin of New Branch, three grandchildren, Will Maybin and his wife Laura of Reidsville, Thomas Maybin and his wife Johnie of Lyons and Angela Maybin of New Branch; two great - grand children, Cameron Jink Maybin of Lyons and Annalee Elizabeth Maybin of Reidsville; one sister, Patty Cubbage and her husband Edwin of Marietta; and one sister - in - law, Sybil Bateman of Macon.
Funeral services for Mrs. Golda M. Lanier will be conducted Thursday morning Aug. 12, at 11: 00 from the Jones - Stewart Funeral Home Chapel of Lyons with Reverend Chester Proctor and Reverend Marc Foster officiating. Interment will follow in the Lyons City Cemetery.

Josie W. Mosley, 80

Josie W. Mosley, 80, passed away Wednesday, August 04, 2010, at Memorial Health University Medical Center in Savannah. The Tattnall County native had lived in this area most of her life. She was employed with Glennville Lingere for many years, and was a member of the Glennville Church of God. She was preceded in death by husband, Larry Mosley and parents, William and Lela Driggers.
She is survived by her children, Maxine (Larry) Stanfield and Grady (Cathy) Willoughby all of Glennville; sisters, Alma Gill of Glennville, and Mattie Sharpe and Ruby Stone, both of Baxley; grandchildren, Rhonda Reed, Chuck Willoughby, Janet Groves, Brandie Dyer, and Grady Willoughby; 11great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services were held Friday, August 6, 2010, at the Chapel of Brannen - Kennedy Funeral Home with Rev. Julie Mack officiating. Burial followed in the Asbury United Methodist Church cemetery in Appling County.
Pallbearers were Charlie Kicklighter, Tracey Herrin, Jeff Cook, Glenn Stanfield, Dale Stanfield, and Jackie Lamb.

Francis Wesley Yarbrough, 80

Mr. Francis Wesley Yarbrough, age 80, of Collins, passed away Saturday, August 07, 2010. Services were held Tuesday, in the chapel of Miles Funeral Home, with Rev. Andrew Nelms and Rev. Charles Carter officiating, with burial following in the Hazlehurst city cemetery.
Mr. Yarbrough was born in Appling County but had lived a number of years in Jeff Davis County, and was residing in Collins at the time of his passing. He was the son of the late Horace Yarbrough and Minnie L. Hall Yarbrough. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Alice Faye Davis Yarbrough; son, Kim Lamar Yarbrough; grandson, Jeremy Yarbrough; brothers, Frank Yarbrough and Odis Yarbrough; sister, Mary Yarbrough Cason. Mr. Yarbrough was retired from Toombs County Manufacturing. He was a Korean veteran and a member and deacon of the Collins Full Gospel Tabernacle Church.
Survivors include his wife, Faye Jenkins Yarbrough of Collins; son and daughter - in - law, Larry and Beverly Yarbrough of Hazlehurst; stepdaughters, Katrina Boyett and Gwen Boyett both of Collins; sisters and brother - in - law, Eula Mae Drawdy of Hazlehurst and Shirley and Emory Sellers of Baxley; grandchildren, Ryan and Lisa Yarbrough, Katelin and Kyle Herbrough, Hanna and Harley Sikes; and great - grandchildren, Colby Ryan Yarbrough and Lyndon Armstrong.
Active pallbearers were James Yarbrough, Kenneth Drawdy, R. Jay Drawdy, David Lightsey, David Brue, Lance Swain and Kelly Chancey.
Music was rendered by Frank Harrelson.
Miles Funeral Home in Hazlehurst was in charge of the arrangements.

Christine Strange Holland, 91

Christine Strange Holland, 91, of Metter died Friday, July 30, 2010, at Azalea Health and Rehabilitation in Metter. A Candler County native, she was the daughter of Louis and Hattie Collins Strange. She attended business school in Macon and was a 1938 graduate of Georgia Teachers College in Statesboro. She taught school at Cedar Creek, Aline, Youmans and Central where she also served as principal. Mrs. Holland retired in 1984 with the Department of Family and Children’s Services in Candler County. During her tenure at DFACS, she enjoyed most carrying the little children to Augusta and Savannah for medical treatments. She was a member of the Primitive Grove Primitive Baptist Church for over 60 years where she taught Bible Study. She was an avid gardener and quilter and also made clothes for all her grandchildren. She was a wonderful “Granny” to all her grandchildren.
Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Charlie Holland; a daughter, Wanda Kay Holland; a son - in - law, Ray Jarriel; two brothers, Herman and L.V.Strange.
Survivors are two sons and daughters - in - law, Louis and Sue Holland, Charles and Pam Holland all of Cobbtown; two daughters and a son - in - law, Lanelle Jarriel of Metter, Billie Sue and Bob Belvin of Townsend; a brother, W.R. Strange of Cobbtown and a sister, Betty Durden both of Cobbtown; nine grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren and six great - great grandchildren.
Funeral services were held Sunday, August 1, at Kennedy Funeral Homes, Hooks Chapel, with Elder Richard Davis and Elder Ron Yeakle officiating. Burial followed in the Primitive Grove Cemetery. Pallbearers were Charlie Holland, Jason Holland, Barry McNair, Rusty McNair, John Michael Page, Richard Lee and Chris Jarriel. Honorary pallbearers were all her other grandchildren. Remembrances may be made to the Primitive Grove Primitive Baptist Church, POB 66, Metter, GA 30439.

Matthew Scott Hughes, 31

Matthew Scott Hughes, 31, passed away Monday, August 2, 2010, as a result of injuries sustained in an automobile accident occurring in Wayne County. The Smyrna, GA, native had lived in this area since 1989. He was a graduate of Cedartown High School and was an electrician employed by Jetty Electrical Corporation of Costa Mesa, CA. He enjoyed golf, poker, and salt and freshwater fishing.
Survivors include his father, Robert Hughes (Carolyn) of Glennville; mother, Virginia Helfert (Jim) of Cedartown; brothers, Michael Hughes (Amy) of Richmond Hill and Mark Hughes (Jill) of Glennville; paternal grandfather, Auvin James Hughes of Glennville; maternal grandparents, Roy and Virginia Smith of Smyrna; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visitation will begin at 6:00 p.m. Friday, August 6, 2010, at Brannen - Kennedy Funeral Home in Glennville.
Funeral Services will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, August 7, 2010, from the Chapel of Brannen - Kennedy Funeral Home with Rev. Bryan Anderson officiating. Burial will follow in Glennville Memorial Gardens.
Pallbearers will be Steven Wren, Billy Murray, Josh Wren, Matt Runnels, Robert C. Branch Jr. and Brett Hughes.

Earl Otis Carter, 63

Earl Otis Carter, 63, of the Cedar Creek Community diedThursday, July 22, 2010, at Candler - St. Joseph’s Hospital in Savannah. He was born in Collins, the son of James Otis and Nana Mae T. Carter and was a 1965 graduate of Collins High School. Earl was an Army Veteran who served in the Vietnam War and met his wife, Emma “Sue” while stationed in Germany. In 2001, he retired from Metter Ford Company where he was a mechanic. He enjoyed fishing, hunting and western movies.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, J.W. Carter and Wallace Carter; and a brother - in - law, Lewis “Mose” Sapp.
He is survived his wife of 42 years, Emma “Sue” Carter; son and daughter - in - law, Chris and Marie Carter of Cobbtown; brothers and sisters - in - law, Mayo Carter and Charlotte of Las Vegas, NV, Thomas Carter of Ft. Valley and Preston and Daisy Carter of Tallahassee, FL; sisters and a brother - in - law, Mary Gladys and Matt Rybczyk and Shirley Sapp all of Metter; grandchildren, Brianna, Tiffany and Clayton Carter of Cobbtown; special sister - in - law andnephew, Frances Burkhart and Jerry Christensen; and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Saturday, July 24, 2010, at Kennedy Funeral Homes, Cobbtown Chapel, with Rev. David Hagan and Rev. Preston Carter officiating. Burial followed in the Sunlight Cemetery. Pallbearers were Matt Padgett, Scott Padgett, Mance Turner, Jim Anderson, Danny Kersey and Jerry Christensen.

Denise Roberts Dasher, 49

Denise Roberts Dasher, 49, passed away Thursday, July 22, 2010, at Doctors Hospital of Tattnall. The Michigan native had lived in this area most of her life. She was employed at Georgia State Prison in the health care field as a Certified Nursing Assistant. She was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother. She was a member of Harmony United Methodist Church and was preceded in death by her mother, Donna Roberts.
Survivors include her husband, Dane Dasher of Reidsville; daughter, Jennifer Dasher of Reidsville; sons and daughter - in - law, Dustin Dasher of Glennville, and Daniel and Ashley Dasher of New Branch; father, Ben Roberts of Uvalda; sister, Karen Creamer of Uvalda; brothers, Kevin Roberts of Leesburg, GA, Kenny Roberts of Canton, GA, Dale Roberts of Akin, SC, and David Roberts of Hazlehurst; grandson, Austin Lane Dasher, and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Funeral services were held Sunday, July 25, 2010, at Harmony United Methodist Church with Rev. Ramon Hernandez officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery. Pallbearers were Brad Bacon, Dearl Creamer, Neal Thompson, Vic Flournoy, John Boyette, Lew Durrence, and honorary pallbearers were the Georgia State Prison Honor Guard and staff.

Victoria Jennifer Driggers, 18

Victoria Jennifer Driggers, 18, died Sunday, July 25, 2010. The Tattnall County native had lived in this area all of her life. She was preceded in death by her birth mother, Latisha Anderson.
Survivors include her parents Simmie and Mary Grace Driggers of Glennville; grandmother: Patsy Martinez of Jesup; sisters, Debra Ann Quick (Chris), Marcia (Lance), April, Meia Aleman, Amanda Forbes, Laurie, Tanya, Asa Reddish, Nikki and Susie Thomas, all of Glennville; Danielle Mott (Jonathan) of Swineford, Germany, Stephanie Daughtery (Steve) of Phoenix, AZ and Connie Thompson of Statesboro; brothers, Simmie Driggers Jr. (Susan), Blair (Amanda), Santos, Thomas, Manuel, Corey, Bryan, Jason, Kenny, Sheldon (Ashley), Joshua, Sean, Jonathan Ward, all of Glennville, and Mark Lamp of Jesup.
Funeral Services were held Thursday, July 29, 2010, from the Chapel of Brannen - Kennedy Funeral Home with Rev. Danny Fesperman and Rev. Dean Herring officiating. Burial followed in Pigot Branch Baptist Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Corey Driggers, Santos Driggers, Chance Quick, and Angel Villalobos.
Brannen - Kennedy Funeral Home, Glennville Chapel, was in charge of the arrangements.
