Mr. Joseph Byron Segrest, 70, died Friday night (December 20, 2002) at Satilla Regional Medical Center following a short illness.
He was a native of Macon County, Ala. but had resided in Waycross since 1955. He was a son of the late Reuben Murdock Segrest and Mabel Cassaday Segrest.
Mr. Segrest retired on February 28, 1995 as a machinist with CSX Railroad. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict and was a member of the NRA and a longtime member of the John Burch Society.
He was a member of First Baptist Church and attended the Waycross Primitive Baptist Church.
The survivors include his wife, Edmee Knox Segrest of Waycross; a son, Rory Mitchell Segrest (wife Jackie) of Birmingham, Ala.; a grandson, James Michael Segrest of Birmingham, Ala.; a sister, Edna Segrest King of Birmingham, Ala.; a brother, William Murdock Segrest of Notasuga, Ala.; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Monday at Music Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be in Oakland Cemetery. The family will be receiving friends at the funeral home Sunday night from 5 until 7 o'clock.

Stephen John Bawkin, Sr.
May 12, 1921 - September 11, 2001

Mr. Stephen John "Steve" Bawkin, Sr., 80, died Tuesday afternoon (Sept. 11, 2001) at Satilla Regional Medical Center after fighting a long and courageous battle with emphysema.
He is a native of Scranton, PA, but he has lived in Waycross since 1956. He was a foreman with Standard Container when he was transferred to Waycross in 1956. He owned and operated Steve's Pine Room from 1959 to 1981. He was also a member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church.
His parents were the late Stephen Bawkin and Mary Passek Bawkin. He was the husband of the late Gertrude Mary Novak Bawkin for 57 years. He was also preceded in death by a son, Stephen John Bawkin, Jr., three brothers, Joey, William and George Bawkin, and a sister, Marion Swift.
He is survived by his daughter, Cynthia McKinnon (husband Burrell) of Hoboken; son, Grady John Bawkin (wife Dana) of Folkston; four grandchildren, Nikki Nadeau (husband Mark) of Waycross, Stacie McKinnon of Hoboken, Kayla and Kyle Bawkin both of Waycross; two great grandchildren, Ashleigh and Mollie Nadeau both of Waycross; and numerous nieces and nephews.
A funeral mass will be held 11 a.m. Friday (Sept. 14, 2001) at the St. Joseph's Catholic Church. Burial will follow in Greenlawn Cemetery. A scripture vigual will be held 6 p.m. Thursday at Music Funeral Home. The family will receive friends 7 until 9 p.m. at the funeral home following the scripture vigual.

Joseph Donald Bell
September 09, 1930 - September 05, 2001

Mr. Joseph Donald Bell, 70, died Wednesday (September 5, 2001) in the Pierce County Nursing Home after a lenghty illness.
He was a native of Buffalo, NY but had resided most of his life in Waycross.
He was a retired mechanic and served in the U.S. Army.
The survivors include two sons, Michael Bell of Macon and David Bell of Blackshear; three step-daughters, Belinda Lewis and husband Dwayne of Jacksonville, FL, Judy Courson and husband Randall of Blackshear, Barbara Freeman of Hoboken; one step-son, Tom Freeman and wife Elaine of Waycross; three grandchildren, Emily, Courtney and Victoria Bell.
A memorial service will be held at 10:00 a.m. Friday (September 7, 2001)in the Music Funeral Home Chapel. Memorialization will be by cremation.

Eloise Johnson Lyon
December 28, 1914 - June 12, 2002

Mrs. Eloise Johnson Lyon, 87, died Tuesday (June 12, 2002) at Satilla Regional Medical Center after an extended illness.
She is a native of Pierce County but she has lived all her life in Waycross. She was a clerk for Memorial Hospital and Baptist Village. She was a member of Central Baptist Church.
She is the daughter of the late William Ellis Johnson and Fannie Lou Jones Johnson. She is the wife of the late James Walter (Jake) Lyon. She was also preceeded in death by her sister, Ruth Young, and three brothers, Merrill, Ellis and Lem Johnson.
She is survived by her brother, Morris Johnson (wife Annie Louise) of Waycross; a sister-in-law, Rush Lyon Phillips of Waycross; step-son, Jimmy Lyon of Greenville, SC; and step-daughter, Patsy Vaughn of Brunswick.
A graveside service will be conducted 11 a.m. Friday (June 14, 2002) at Oakland Cemetery. The family will receive friends 6 until 7 p.m. Thursday at Music Funeral Home.
In lieu of flowers, memorials contributions can be made to Gideon, P.O. Box 802, Waycross, GA 31502.

Susan Irene Gill

Mrs. Susan Irene Gill, 97, died Thursday (June 20, 2002) at Baptist Village.
She was a native of Tallapossa but had resided most of her life in Woodbury and had been making her home in Waycross for the past 16 years. She was married to the late James Otis Gill and was daughter of the late Elbert Miller and Tina Emmaline Bowman Miller and was preceded in death by a son, Richard E. Gill.
Mrs. Gill was a member of Woodbury Baptist Church in Woodbury.
The survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Clyde E. (Tina Sue) O'Quinn of Waycross, Mrs. Pierce R. (Julia) English of Warrenton; a brother, G.B. Miller of Centre, Ala.; 12 grandchildren; and numerous great grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday at Oakland Cemetery. The family will be receiving freinds at Music Funeral Home Friday night from 7 until 8:30.

Mr. G. C. Herndon, 85, died Sunday (June 16, 2002) night at his residence following a long illness.
He was a native of Coffee County but had resided in Ware County most of his life. He was son of the late George Clayton Herndon, Sr. and Gussie Mae Carter Herndon.
He was a retired farmer and a member of the Waresboro United Methodist Church.
The survivors include his wife, Jeanette Roberts Herndon of Waresboro; three daughters, Sharon Gillis (husband Sylvester), Julia Dyson (husband Robert) , and Mary Alice Aldridge (husband Victor) all of Waresboro; a son, Charles Herndon of Waresboro; his ex-wife, Alice Herndon of Waresboro; 15 grandchildren; 27 great grandchildren; one great great grandchild; and three step-children, Faron Peacock and Charlie Peacock of Blackshear, and Bridget Beverly of Brunswick.
A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday (June 19, 2002) at Waresboro United Methodist Church. Burial will be in Telmore Cemetery. The family will be receiving friends at Music Funeral Home Tuesday night from 7 until 9 o'clock and will be making headquarters at the home of his daughter, Mary Alice Aldridge, at 2390 N. Clough Bay Road.

Vernon Daniel Smith

Mr. Vernon Daniel Smith,75, died Monday (June 17, 2002) at Satilla Regional Medical Center after a lengthy illness.
He was retired with the Jacksonville ship yard as a welder. He was a native of Ware County but had lived in Jacksonville for several years before returning to Waycross in 1987.
He was the son of the late Jefferson Pendleton Smith and Thelma Tanner Smith.

Survivors include his wife, Clair Inez Crews Smith; two sons, Jerry Daniel Smith, Jessie Walter Smith both of Waycross; one sister, Valier Opal Snipes of Hilliard, FL; and a grandson, Thomas Willam Smith of Waycross.
A service is planned for 10 AM Thursday (June 20, 2002) in the Music Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be held at Jordan Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 o'clock Wednesday evening at the funeral home.

Jasper R. Cox, Jr.
November 14, 1927 - June 13, 2002

Mr. Jasper R. Cox, Jr., 74, died suddenly Thursday (June 13, 2002) at Satilla Regional Medical Center.
He was a native of Ware County, lived in Washington State for 20 years, but had resided in Ware County most of his life. He was son of the late Jasper R. Cox, Sr. and Mary Cox and was preceded in death by a brother, J. T. Cox.
Mr. Cox was a farmer and was retired from J. C. Pennys. He served in the U. S. Army during World War II.
The survivors include his wife, Beverly Cox of Waycross; two daughters, Cynthia Haslam (husband Dan) of Lynwood, Washington, Colleen James of Waycross; four sons, Robert Cox and Randall Cox (wife Shelly) both of Waycross, James Cox (wife Sheryl) and David Cox (wife Jennifer) both of Blackshear; six sisters, Voncille Carter, Margaret Patterson, and Rose Joyner all of Waycross, Ruth Bracken of Atlanta, Mary Dixon of Blackshear, Joyce Smith of Jacksonville, Fla.; Woodrow Cox, Charles Cox, William Cox, Raymond Cox and Harold Cox all of Waycross; 11 grandchildren; and one great grandson.
A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m.Tuesday in the Music Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will be in Kettle Creek Cemetery. The family will be receiving friends at the funeral home Monday night from 7 until 9 o'clock.

Annie Muriel Boyd

Mrs. Annie Muriel Boyd,63,died (June 18,2002) at Lake City Medical Center after a brief illness.
She was a member of Berean Baptist Temple of Wellington,FL. She was a native of Ware County and daughter of the late John Bell and Zella Lee Bell.
She is survived by her husband Morris Boyd of Ft.White,FL., two daughters; Virginia Burke husband Donnie of Wellington,FL., Katherine Stienhagan husband John of West Palm Beach,FL., a son Richard "Rick" Boyd of Ft.White,FL., a brother Oscar Bell of Waycross, aunt;Nona Pearl Lee of Pearson, seven grandchildren.
A service is planned for 3:00pm Friday at Kettle Creek Southern Congregational Methodist Church. Burial will be held in the church cemetery.
The body will be taken to her brother residence 1349 Smith Rd. Thursday afternoon.
Music Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Caviness both of Waycross, paternal grandparents; Carolyn Rodriguez of Waycross, Charles Caviness of Mercer,TN., maternal grandparents Billy & Sybil Smith of Waycross, aunt & uncle Eugene & Sybil Wimberley of Waycross, aunt Connie Caviness, uncle Wesley Caviness of Hopemills, NC.
A graveside service is planned for 2:00 pm Sunday at Liberty Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Sunday from 12:30 pm until 1:30 pm at Music Funeral Home.
