Ada Bentley, age 75 of Monroe, died on October 1, 2004. She was born in Walton County on December 20, 1928 to the late Charlie Bentley and the late Jewell Mae Boss Bentley.

Dorothy (Dot) Harper

Dorothy (Dot) Harper, 76, of Monroe died September 28, 2004. A native of Walton County, she was a daughter of the late J.M. and Maggie Lou Johnson Thornton.

Dr. Charles H. Fitzgerald

Dr. Charles H. Fitzgerald, 82, of Monroe died September 30, 2004.

A native of Rockdale County, he was a graduate of the University of Georgia where he received his BS, MS and Phd. in forestry. He retired as Professor of Forestry at the University of Georgia. He had served in the U.S. Army during World War II.

Funeral services were held Oct. 2, 2004 at the graveside in Orange Hill Cemetery, Hawkinsville, GA.

Grace Betts Bradberry

Grace Betts Bradberry, 76 died September 29, 2004. Born in Jackson County, she was the daughter of the late George and Ina Lavender Betts and widow of Robert D. Bradberry.

Helen D. Allen

Helen D. Allen, 82, of Monroe died September 28, 2004.

A native of Newton, she was the daughter of the late James Darby and Ellen Aaron Darby. The widow of Lewis Felton Allen, she was formerly employed by Oxford Mfg, and Flambeau, Inc. She was a member of Ray Memorial Presbyterian Church.

Funeral services were held September 30, 2004 in Ray Memorial Presbyterian Church. Rev. Gary Lowe officiated and interment was in Hill Haven Memory Gardens.

Nellie McDaniel

Nellie McDaniel, age 94 of Social Circle, died on September 30,2004. She was born on February 19, 1910 to the late Jessie W. Harris and the late Lula Peppers Harris. She was preceded in death by her husband, the late Joe McDaniel, and her daughter, the late Ruth Sims.

Surviving are: Daughters: Runell Parham of Social Circle, and Dorothy Lemonds of Social Circle; Sister: Sudell Adams of Social Circle; Granddaughter: Glenda Berry; Grandsons: Douglas Parham, Gary Lemonds, Wayne Cox, and Dennis Parham; 7 Great Grandchildren; and 4 Great Great Grandchildren. She had three sets of five generations.

Thomas Andrew “Tom” Johnson

Thomas Andrew “Tom” Johnson, 84, of 403 Saco St. husband of Cleo Day Johnson, died Tuesday, Sept. 14, 2004 at National Health Care of Greenwood.

Born in Crawford, Ga. he was a son of the late Tillman O. and Maude Ferguson Johnson.

Local survivors are Janice Widner of Monroe and Jim Niblett of Winder.

Memorials may be made to West Side Baptist Church Building Fund, P.O. Box 216, Greenwood, SC 29648

Blyth Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Bertha Shelton

Bertha Shelton, age 82 of Monroe, died on September 26, 2004. She was born in Morgan County on October 12, 1921 to the late Mel Denney and the late Addie Looney Denney

James Hoyt Peters

James Hoyt Peters, age 65 of Monroe, died on September 26, 2004. He was born in Morgan County on April 5, 1939 to the late Emory Lee Peters and the late Ophelia Simmons Peters.

Surviving are: Wife: Kathy Peters of Monroe; Daughters and Sons in Law: Brenda Peters Walker of Monroe, Paul and Karen Peters Barnes of Monroe, and Lee and Kelly Peters Hinton of Gratis; Sons and Daughters in Law: Steve and Lisa Moss of Hartwell, Alan and Charlotte Peters of Monroe, Jamie and Karen Peters of Monroe; Brother and Sister in Law: Eugene and Margaret Peters of Byronville; Sisters: Ella Maude Puckett of Monroe, and Doris Mitchell of Monroe; 15 Grandchildren, and several Nieces and Nephews.

Emily Houseman Cooper

Emily Houseman Cooper, 68, of Bethlehem died Sept. 24, 2004.

A native of Walton County, she was the daughter of the late Emmett Riden Houseman.

The widow of the late Albert Alton Cooper, she resided in Walton County most of her life, resided in Texas for a few years prior to returning to Georgia.

Funeral services were held Sept. 27, 2004 in the chapel of Arthur Bowick Funeral Home. Kenneth Hill officiated and interment was in Hill Haven Memory Gardens.

Mr. Robert Gober Burton, Jr.

Mr. Robert Gober Burton, Jr., 74 of Woodhaven Drive, passed away September 23, 2004. Mr. Burton was born in Jacksonville, FL and was the son of Grovene Burton of Athens and the late Robert G. Burton.

Emma Lou Stowe Brown

Emma Lou Stone Brown, 89, of Loganville, died September 19, 2004. The daughter of the late Ross and Virgin Mary Brand Stowe, and the widow of the late Thomas R. Brown, she was a native of Rockdale County, but had lived most of her life in Monroe.

Katherine Shumate Cruce, age 86 of Social Circle, died September 21, 2004. Funeral services were held at 1:00 PM Friday, September 24, 2004 at Bill Head Funeral Home Duluth Chapel

Sue Y. Goodman

Sue Y. Goodman, 71, of Conyers, formerly of Walton County died Sept. 18, 2004.

The daughter of the late Eugene A. and Annie Palmer Yancey, she was the widow of Earl Goodman and was a retired bookkeeper.

Remains were cremated. No service was held.

She is survived by several cousins.

Arthur Bowick, Inc. Funeral Directors was in charge of arrangements.

Vincent L. Bernard

Vincent L. Bernard, 90, of Midville, Georgia and formerly of Cedar Falls, Iowa, died Tuesday, November 16,2004, at University Hospital in Augusta, Georgia.

Memorial services were held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, November 27, 2004, at St. Patrick Catholic Church, with Interment at Greenwood Cemetery, both in Cedar Falls.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to St. Patrick Catholic Church.

Dahl-Van Hove-Schoof Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Annie Ruth Camp Martin

Mrs. Annie Ruth Camp Martin of Loganville died November 27 and would have been 69 years old on November 28. Mrs. Martin was predeceased in death by her husband: Robert Martin; and parents: Mr. and Mrs. Claude (Mamie) Camp; and sister: Mrs. Thomas (Gail) Jones.

Mrs. Martin was born in Walton County and lived there most of her life. She was a member of the Grayson United Methodist Church in Grayson.

James Carnell Sharp

James Carnell Sharp, 78, of Monroe died November 19, 2004.

A native of Ashville, NC, he moved to Walton County in 1972 to be affiliated as a lab technician with the Walton County Hospital, after retiring from the U.S. Army. He later was owner of Sharp Trucking Company and later employed by Akin Ford of Winder. He was a member of the Andrews, NC Masonic Lodge, the VFW and Union Chapel United Methodist Church.

Diane (Gray) Anderson

Diane (Gray) Anderson, age 55, of Walnut Grove died Monday, November 15, 2004.

Funeral Services were held 2:30 PM, Wednesday, November 17, 2004 in the Lawrenceville Chapel of Tim Stewart Funeral Home. Rev. Donnie Kemp officiated. Burial, Gwinnett Memorial Park, Lawrenceville.

A sales person with Tucker Door & Trim, Mrs. Anderson, is survived by: Children: Marcy & Stacey Smith, Kelly & Matt Hadaway, Katie Anderson & Chris Burke, all of Walnut Grove; Parents: Wesley & Mary Gray, Brothers & Sister-in-law: James & Sharon Gray, Bill Gray, all of Conyers; Grandchildren: Tori Smith, Madison Smith, Kayle Smith, Taylor Hadaway, Zachary Hadaway, Harley Hadaway, Kennedy Hadaway, Several Nieces & Nephews.

Tim Stewart Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Frances Kerr

Frances Kerr, age 86 of Monroe, died on November 12, 2004. She was born in Walton County on February 12, 1918 to the late Tendill Barnes and the late Fannie Pearl Spinks Barnes.

Surviving are: Husband: Gilbert Kerr of Monroe; Daughters and Sons in Law: Joanne and Herman Mathis of Monroe, Linda and Paul Ondo of Monroe, and Brenda Kirk of Nicholson; Sons and Daughters in Law: Bobby Kirk of Monroe, Billy and Lenna Mae Kirk of Monroe, and Jimmy and Jeanette Kirk of Youth; 26 Grandchildren, 44 Great Grandchildren, and 16 Great Great Grandchildren.

Freida Laverne Gibson

Freida Laverne Gibson, age 67 of Social Circle, died on October 30, 2004. She was born in Gwinnett County on June 3, 1937. She was preceded in death by her parents, mother, the late Gladys Parker, and father the late Harold Parker.

Surviving are: Daughter: Barbara Denise Dunn of Austin, TX; Sons and Daughters in Law: Paul and Kathy Dunn of Social Circle, and Michael David and Karen Gibson of Bethlehem; Grandchildren: Ethan Gibson and Sarah Gibson, both of Bethlehem.
