MR. MELVIN RAY

Mr. Melvin Ray of Atlanta passed away March 1, 1997 at Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta. Funeral arrangements will be announced later by Sellers-Smith Funeral Home.

DR. MERLE HARMON REETS

Dr. Merle Harmon Reets, 88, of Sharpsburg died March 2, 1997 at Newnan Hospital.

Born April 14, 1908 in Ohio, Dr. Reets was the son of the late John and Lida Maude (Tuttle) Reets and the husband of the late Ruth (Kobernik) Reets. He was a member of Kingdom Hall Jehovah's Witnesses and was a retired dentist.

Funeral services will be held March 8 at 3 p.m. at Kingdom Hall with Elder Stephen C. Anderson officiating.

Survivors include his sons, Joel Reets of Sharpsburg, Ron Reets of Riverdale; sister, Madeline Reets of Sharpsburg; and nine grandchildren.

MR. HENRY A. TEEL

Mr. Henry A. Teel, 95, of Hogansville died Feb. 28, 1997 at West Georgia Medical Center in LaGrange.

Born July 12, 1901 in Chilton County, Ala., Mr. Teel was the son of the late Anderson and Annie Golden Teel. He was a member of First Baptist Church in Hogansville and was retired from Uniroyal Inc. and was a retired merchant.

Funeral services were held March 2 at Claude A. McKibben and Sons Funeral Home with the Rev. Jerry Cross and the Rev. Eric Killinger officiating. Interment followed at Myrtle Hill cemetery in Hogansville with Ralph Teel, Lindsey Mock, Garland Williams, Sidney Hancock, Hayward Teel and Hudson Cone serving as pallbearers.

Survivors include his wife, Ruby Hudson Teel of Hogansville; sister, Bessie Hancock of Decatur; granddaughter and grandson-in-law, Cindy and Chuck Brazell of Hogansville; and two great-grandchildren, Jay Spradlin and Shaina Spradlin, both of Hogansville.

MR. WILLIAM B. WHEELER

Mr. William B. Wheeler, 96, of Dalton and formerly of Greenwood, S.C. died March 1, 1997 at his home.

Mr. Wheeler was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy H. Wheeler. He was a member of The Sons of the American Revolution and a member of Associate Reformed Presbyterian Church of Greenwood.

A memorial service will be announced later by Julian Peeples Funeral Home.

Survivors include his daughters, Betty Staples of Greenwood, Suzanne Mason of Charlottesville, Va.; son and daughter-in-law, Bill and Gladys Wheeler of Dalton; sister, Dorothy W. Hankins Stump of Smithville, Va.; nine grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

MR. ROY DAVIS WILSON SR.

Mr. Roy Davis Wilson Sr., 82, of Line Creek Road in Senoia died March 2, 1997 at Columbia Peachtree Regional Hospital in Newnan.

Born Sept. 10, 1914 in Coweta County, Mr. Wilson was the son of the late John Thomas Wilson and Effie Ophelia Ross Wilson.

A U.S. Army veteran of World War II, Mr. Wilson was a retired farmer and a member of Bethel United Methodist Church and Senoia Veterans Club.

Funeral services were held March 4 at Hillcrest Chapel Funeral Home with the Rev. Dennis Fowler officiating. Interment followed at Pleasant Hill Baptist Church cemetery with Lance Wilson, John Wilson, Richard Chappell, Nick Waters, James Thompson and Carl McKnight serving as pallbearers.

Survivors include his wife, Frances Wilson of Senoia; children, Roy Davis "Pete" Wilson Jr. of Haralson, Martha Grace "Gracie" Wilson of Haralson, Effie Lynn Moss of Alvaton; brother, Jim Wilson of Newnan; and grandchildren, Jennifer Lynn Moss, Michael Lance Wilson and John Thomas Wilson.

MRS. RUTH H. BEARDEN

Mrs. Ruth H. Bearden, 77, of Hagerstown, Md., died Feb. 24, 1997 at her home.

Born March 24, 1919 in Fayette County, Mrs. Bearden was raised in Senoia. She was the widow of John F. Bearden.

Mrs. Bearden retired from Southern Bell in Atlanta after 32 years of service. She was a member of the Methodist church in Senoia.

Graveside services will be held today at 11 a.m. at the Senoia City Cemetery.

Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Dexter and Elaine Evans Sr. of Hagerstown; sister, Claire Loyd of Jonesboro; grandchildren, Maurisa Barnes and Dexter Evans Jr., both of Hagerstown; two great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

Memorial donations can be made to the National Osteoporosis Foundation, 1150 17th St., N.W., Suite 500, Washington, D.C., 20036.

MR. CEDRIC THOMAS BOWLING SR.

Mr. Cedric Thomas Bowling Sr., 83, of Roberts Road in Newnan died Feb. 27, 1997 at Peachtree Regional Hospital.

Born April 21, 1913 in Wake County, N.C., Mr. Bowling was the son of the late Tillet W. and Lillian (Jeffiers) Bowling. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and a retired inspector for a concrete manufacturing company.

Mr. Bowling was a member of First Baptist Church of Newnan.

Funeral services will be held March 1 (today) at 4 p.m. at McKoon Funeral Home with the Rev. Jerry Walker officiating, assisted by the Rev. Doug Bearden. Interment followed at Westminster Gardens in Peachtree City.

Survivors include his wife, Effie (Best) Bowling of Newnan; daughters, Beverly Walker, Glenda Fay Hugi, both of Newnan, Iris Cobb of Albany; sons, Tom Bowling of Sylvester, Dale Bowling of Sharpsburg, David Bowling of Albuquerque, N.M.; sisters, Elizabeth Haynes of Missouri, Hilda Mathis of North Carolina; 11 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

MR. HARVEY G. BRAND

Mr. Harvey G. Brand, 70, of Franklin died Feb. 22, 1997 at Newnan Hospital.

Born May 12, 1926 in Coweta County, Mr. Brand was the son of the late George and Elizabeth Redding Brand. He was a member of McIntosh Baptist Church and a maintenance foreman with the Georgia Department of Transportation.

Mr. Brand was preceded in death by his children, Udeoria Brand and Gleenis Brand.

Funeral services were held Feb. 25 at Hillcrest Chapel Funeral Home in Newnan with the Rev. Lyndsey Maxwell officiating. Interment followed at Oak Hill cemetery in Newnan with Frank Crook, Curtis Hines, Lenward Bassett, Mike Cabrera, Bill McCullough and Jeremy Striblin serving as pallbearers.

Survivors include his wife, Pearl Brand of Franklin; children, Malone Brand of LaGrange, Ghami Brand of Franklin, Mignon Cabrera of Dallas, Texas, Glenda Duncan of Franklin; sister, Christine Adams of Franklin; 16 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Memorial contributions can be made to The American Cancer Society or the American Heart Association.

MR. LEON P. CRIBB

Mr. Leon P. Cribb, 66, of Carrollton died Feb. 24, 1997 at Tanner medical Center in Carrollton.

Born Jan. 2, 1931 in North Carolina, Mr. Cribb was the son of the late Anthony and Ruth Todd Cribb. He was a member of the Baptist faith and a U.S. Army veteran.

Funeral services were held Feb. 26 at Claude A. McKibben and Sons Funeral Home. Interment followed at Union Baptist Church cemetery in the St. Marks community of Meriwether County with Alfred Daniel, Buck Willingham, Brian Ferrell, Ben Wofford, Michael Villani and Jeff Harmon serving as pallbearers.

Survivors include his wife, Eva Daniel Cribb of Carrollton; step-daughter, Jackie Christopher of Dallas; step-son, Ronnie Neighbors of San Francisco, Calif.; sisters, Mae Dee Edwards of Chadburne, N.C., Leona Williamson of Fayetteville, N.C., Clara Brisson of Blandenburg, N.C.; brother, Duffey Cribb of Hahira; a step-granddaughter and a step-great-granddaughter.

MR. OFFET DANIEL

Mr. Offet Daniel of Belk Road in Newnan passed away Feb. 26, 1997 at the Veterans Administration Hospital in Decatur.

He was the husband of Mary Lee Daniel. Funeral arrangements will be announced later by Sellers-Smith Funeral Home.

MR. FRANK L. HARRINGTON

Mr. Frank L. Harrington, 67, of Bailey Drive in Newnan died Feb. 19, 1997 at Dogwood Health Center in Fairburn.

Born Oct. 2, 1929 in North Carolina, Mr. Harrington was the son of the late Luther and Cornelia (Hammett) Harrington. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Newnan and a retired salesman with Gulf Life Insurance Co.

Funeral services were held Feb. 21 at McKoon Funeral Home with the Rev. Don Helms officiating. Interment followed at Forest Lawn Memorial Park in Newnan with members of the David Stripling Sunday School Class serving as pallbearers and honorary escort.

Survivors include his wife, Sara P. (Potts) Harrington; daughters, Mr. and Mrs. David (Sandy) Moore of Lawrenceville, Dana Harrington of Franklin; son, Kenneth Harrington of Milledgeville; brothers, George Harrington, Ed Harrington, both of Newnan; and grandsons, Ben Harrington and Chris Moore.

Memorial contributions can be made to First Baptist Church of Newnan.

MR. JAMES W.D. HILL JR.

Mr. James W.D. Hill Jr., 66, of Glenn Street in Newnan passed away Feb. 25, 1997 at Newnan Hospital.

Born Oct. 11, 1930 in Wadley, Ala., Mr. Hill was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Dallas (Carrie) Hill. He was a member of Ebenezer Baptist Church in Franklin and was employed by the City of Newnan until his retirement in 1993.

Funeral services were held Feb. 27 at Sellers-Smith Funeral Home with the Rev. J.R. Williams officiating, assisted by the Rev. J.W. Russell Sr., the Rev. R.W. Sutton and the Rev. T.L. Harris. Interment followed at Shady Grove Baptist Church cemetery in Sargent with relatives and friends serving as pallbearers.

Survivors include his sister, Alma Cameron; nieces, Mr. and Mrs. Rudolph (Janette) Smith of Macon, Elizabeth, Patricia, Tonya, Beverly, Mr. and Mrs. Robert (Janette) Johnson; nephews, Mr. and Mrs. Richard Cameron, Mr. and Mrs. Johnny C. Cameron, Jeffery, Johnny Jr., all of Newnan; 10 great-nieces and five great-nephews.
