MRS. NORA McCARTY

Mrs. Nora McCarty, 84, of Polk Road in Moreland died April 20, 1997 at Columbia Peachtree Regional Hospital.

Born June 8, 1912 in Gilmer County, Mrs. McCarty was retired from Uniroyal Inc. and was a member of Moreland Baptist Church.

Funeral services were held April 20 at Moreland Baptist Church with the Rev. Jerry Ely officiating, assisted by the Rev. Powers Witcher. Interment followed at Southview cemetery with Wayne Moore, Donald McCarty, Hubert McCarty, J.C. Thompson, Robert Thompson and Kenneth Thompson serving as pallbearers.

Survivors include her son, Willis McCarty of Moreland; grandchildren, Alan McCarty of Franklin, Kevin McCarty of Bethlehem; great-grandchildren, Diane McCarty of Sargent, Nicole McCarty of Franklin; and sister, Bessie Livingston of Moreland.

MRS. INA ELIZABETH YATES

Mrs. Ina Elizabeth Yates, 86, of Arnco died April 20, 1997 at Newnan Hospital.

Born Sept. 21, 1910 in Carroll County, Mrs. Yates was the daughter of the late Looney L. Thornton and Emily (Bledsoe) Thornton and the widow of Leon Yates. She was a retired textile worker with 35 years at Arnall Mills and The Bibb Co.

Mrs. Yates was a member of Arnco Baptist Church.

Funeral services were held April 22 at McKoon Funeral Home with the Rev. Travis Eidson officiating, assisted by the Rev. Paul Dennis. Interment followed at Ephesus cemetery in Heard County.

Survivors include her daughters, Shirley Holloway of Austell, Helen Stubbs of Newnan, Sandra Muse of Tyrone; son, Glenn Doyle Yates of Jonesboro; brother, Marvin H. Thornton of Bowdon; 17 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

MS. PAT H. ARMSTRONG

Ms. Pat Hancock Armstrong, 55, of 109 East Seventh Street, Ocilla, died April 16, 1997 at Irwin County Hospital in Ocilla.

Ms. Armstrong was born June 16, 1941, daughter of the late William Porter Canter and Lucy Elizabeth Stephens Canter. She had lived in Irwin County most of her life.

Ms. Armstrong was a member of Waterloo Baptist Church in Irwin County. She was a homemaker.

Services will be held today (April 19) at 11 a.m. at Mt. Paron Primitive Baptist Church in Berrien County with the Rev. Charles Stevens officiating. Interment will follow at the church cemetery.

Survivors include a daughter, Darlene Hancock of Ocilla; son, Randy Hancock of Ocilla; brother, Billy Canter of Tifton; sisters, Abbie Fletcher of Americus, Sherrall Clements of Americus, Barbara Boyles of Jonesboro; aunt, Thelma Stephens of Gay; cousins, Stanley Stephens, Brenda Stephens, both of Gay; six grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

THOMAS ARRINGTON

Thomas Arrington, 85, of Franklin, died April 17, 1997 at Hospice LaGrange in LaGrange.

Services will be held today (April 19) at 4 p.m. in the chapel of Claude A. McKibben and Sons Funeral Home in Hogansville with the Rev. Fred White and the Rev. Richard Clay officiating. Interment will follow at Franklin Cemetery.

MRS. LOLA S. DAVIS

Mrs. Lola Smith Davis, 93, of the Primrose Community of Meriwether County died April 17, 1997 at Georgia Baptist Meriwether Hospital in Warm Springs.

Mrs. Davis was born August 29, 1903 in Roanoke, Alabama, daughter of the late James and Rosie Smith. She lived at Primrose most of her life.

Mrs. Davis was a member of Primrose United Methodist Church.

Mrs. Davis was a former employee of Nabisco in Woodbury. For many years, she was the Primrose correspondent for The Meriwether Vindicator.

For 20 years, Mrs. Davis demonstrated quilt making at the Cotton Pickin' Fair in Gay.

Services will be held today (April 19) at 2 p.m. at Primrose United Methodist Church with the Rev. David Pickard officiating. Interment will follow at Grantville Cemetery.

Survivors include sons and daughters-in-law, Jack and Dot Turner of Lanett, Alabama, Herbert and Delores Davis of Newnan, Ronald and Mildred Davis of Primrose; 13 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

HENRY GROSZEK

Funeral services for Henry Groszek, 74, of Sharpsburg were held April 12 at Olson Funeral Home in Chicago, Illinois.

Interment was a Mary Hill cemetery in Chicago.

Mr. Groszek was a former resident of Chicago. He was a member of the Chicago Police Department, Lodge 7.

Survivors include his wife, Doris Groszek; daughter, Mrs. Mike (Diane) Manning; two grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

RUSTY JACKSON

Dalton Sharman "Rusty" Jackson, 46, of Baton Rouge, Louisiana, died April 11, 1997 in Baton Rouge.

Mr. Jackson was a native of Chatom, Alabama. He participated and lettered in all sports at Washington County High School.

Mr. Jackson graduated from Louisiana State University on a football scholarship. He was a kicking specialist.

Mr. Jackson played professional football for five years - two years with the Los Angeles Rams and three years with the Buffalo Bills.

Mr. Jackson was a member of Chatom Baptist Church. He was active in church activities in Baton Rouge.

Services were held April 17 in the chapel of Lathan Funeral Home in Chatom, Alabama. Interment followed at Chatom Cemetery.

Survivors include son, Kyle Jackson, Brandon Jackson, both of Hattiesburg, Mississippi; brother, Steve Jackson of Fairhope, Alabama; parents, Mr. and Mrs. Dalton Jackson of Chatom; aunt, Mrs. Vera Thompson of Newnan; a niece and a nephew.

LOFLEY L. SMITH

Lofley L. "Hop" Smith, 82, of the Corinth Community of Heard County died April 17, 1997 at West Georgia Medical Center in LaGrange.

Mr. Smith was born January 18, 1915 in Heard County, son of the late Lucius and Mattie Thompson Smith. He retired as a staff sergeant from the U. S. Air Force after 21 years of service. He was a veterans of World War II and the Korean Conflict.

Mr. Smith was a member of Corinth United Methodist Church. He was a member of the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Services will be held today (April 19) at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Claude A. McKibben and Sons Funeral Home in Hogansville with the Rev. Charles Ritter officiating. Interment will follow at Corinth cemetery with full military honors.

Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Margaret Jackson Smith of Corinth; daughter, Mrs. Shirley Ott of Corinth; son, William L. Smith of Corinth; sisters, Mrs. Trudy Cook of LaGrange, Mrs. Martha Colley of LaGrange, Mrs. Robbie Sims of LaGrange, Mrs. Lauretta Jackson of Forest Park, Mrs. Mary Nell Hill of Dunedin, Florida; five grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

MRS. LENA MAE COLTON

Mrs. Lena Mae Sewell Colton, 91, passed April 9, 1997 at Newnan Hospital.

Mrs. Colton was born March 25, 1906 in Meriwether County. She was a member of Zion Hill Baptist Church at Luthersville where she was a member of the Senior Usher Board and the Mother Board. She was the 1994 Mother of the Year.

Mrs. Colton also was a member of Order of the Eastern Star Chapter 491.

Services were held April 14 at Zion Hill Baptist Church with the Rev. D. L. Driver officiating, assisted by the Rev. M. A. Blount and the Rev. L. Jackson. Interment followed at the church cemetery.

Grandsons served as pallbearers.

Survivors incolude a daughter, Margaret; a sister, Irene; a sister-in-law, Lucinda; nieces, Sarah and Daisy; nephew, Margaret; 16 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; and 23 great-great-grandchildren.

MRS. BETTY B. FRYMYER

Mrs. Betty Faye Buckovich Frymyer, 43, of Baker Road, Newnan died April 12, 1997.

Mrs. Frymyer was born January 31, 1954 in Bluefield, West Virginia. She had been a waitress for Waffle House for 18 years.

Private services will be held at a later date.

Survivors include sons, James Frymyer of Newnan, Travis Frymyer of Jonesboro; parents, Lawrence and Mathalee Miller Buckovich of Newnan; sisters, Carolyn Basham of Atlanta, Patty Hoard of Panama City, Florida; and brother, Larry Buckovich of Newnan.

INFANT CASHMYN GETER

Cashmyn Quinnece Geter, infant daughter of Natasha Barber and Roderick Geter, 13 Thomas Way, Newnan, passed April 11, 1997 at Peachtree Regional Hospital.

Services were held April 13 in R.W.S. Memorial Chapel at Sellers-Smith Funeral Home with the Rev. J. C. Neal officiating, assisted by the Rev. R. Chapman. Interment followed at Smith Chapel United Methodist Church.

Survivors include parents, Natasha E. Barber, Roderick Geter; and grandparents, Ms. Shirley Barber, Matthew Johnson, Ms. Ruby Geter, Mr. and Mrs. Jimmy (Mary) Geter), Mose Barber Jr.
