Elizabeth Anne Betsy (Harding) Gallant

Elizabeth "Betsy" Anne Gallant, 58, of Vero Beach, died Feb. 26, 2006 at her home after a prolonged illness.

Mrs. Gallant was born Nov. 3, 1947 in Boston, MA to Theodore Parker and Barbara Hawks Harding.

She was raised in Concord, MA. She graduated from Concord-Carlisle High School in 1965 and attended Boston University from 1965 through 1966. Mrs. Gallant received her Licensed Practical Nurse diploma in 1973 from the Shepard-Gill School of Nursing of the Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston,

MA. She received her Associate of Science Degree in Nursing in 1987 from North Georgia College and State University in Dahlonega, Georgia.

Mrs. Gallant was employed as a Practical Nurse in the Boston area from 1973-1978. She then moved to Toccoa Falls, Georgia in 1980. She was employed as a Registered Nurse from 1987-2002. From 1987- 1988 she worked as a staff nurse and OB supervisor by St. Joseph’s Hospital of Dahlonega. She was employed as a charge nurse by St. Mary’s Hospital in Athens, Georgia from 1995-2002.

She received the Nurses Make a Difference award from the Georgia Hospital Association in 1990.

She was a former member of Shiloh Community Church in Snellville, Georgia and is presently a member of the Holy Cross Anglican Church in Loganville, Georgia.

Surviving are her husband of 29 years, George L. Gallant of Loganville, GA; son: Eric David Gallant of Tucker, GA; stepdaughter, Mrs. Stacy Gallant LaMontagne of

Fort Hood, TX; sisters: Mrs. Anne Saba of Albuquerque, NM and Miss Harriet A. Harding; cousin: Miss Marie Anne Hawks of Gloucester, MA.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, March 3, 2006 at the Holy Cross Anglican Church in Loganville, Georgia. Directions: From Loganville, follow Route 78, turn right onto Brand Road and take your immediate left onto Oak Grove Road.

Donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, PO Box 50, Memphis, TN 38101-9929.

Arrangements are under the direction of Strunk Funeral Homes, Vero Beach, Florida.

James W. Lord

James W. Lord, 81 Covington, son of the late Earnest W. and Jessie Brooks Lord, died Feb. 24, 2006.

A U.S. Army Veteran of World War II, he was Store Manager for White’s Enterprises for 30 years, and after retirement worked for Patrick’s Feed & Seed and Cohen’s Mens Store. Mr. Lord was a member of First Presbyterian Church, where he participated in the Silver Saints, and also attended Red Oak United Methodist Church, where he was a member of the Recycled Teenagers. Very active in his community, Mr. Lord was a member of the Newton County Senior Citizens, Newton County Hayriders Square Dance Club, Covington BPOE, Newton Medical Center Hospital Auxiliary, Covington Lions Club for 40 years, American Legion Post #32 for 50 years and the Henry County Moose Lodge for 10 years.

Mr. Lord is survived by his sisters and brother-in-law: Mary Alice Harrill, Slater, SC, Violet L. Lowe, Doris and Edward Lowe all of Good Hope; brother: Charlie W. Lord, Good Hope, sister-in-law: Laura A. Humphries, Covington; a number of nieces and nephews; special friend, Minnie Henderson, Covington.

Funeral services for Mr. Lord were held at 2pm Monday Feb. 27, 2006, at First Presbyterian Church, Covington with the Rev. William B. Wade and the Rev. Chester Cook, officiating and interment followed at Mr. Vernon cemetery in Monroe. Flowers are acceptable or donations may be made to First Presbyterian Church, 1169 Clark Street, Covington, GA 30014.

Mickey Wayne Cook

Mickey Wayne Cook, 51 of Loganville, died Feb. 25, 2006.

He is survived by: companion: Phyllis Hickey, five stepchildren; ten grandchildren; two great grandchildren; parents: H. Wayne and Marynelle Cook, Newnan; sisters and brothers-in-law: Melissa and Dan Estep, Waco , TX, Wanella and Kevin Greene, OR; three nieces and two nephews.

Mr. Cook was a caring companion, friend and son, and was a dedicated Wal-Mart employee.

Funeral services were held at 11am, Tues. Feb. 28, 2006 at Wages Snellville Chapel. Interment followed in Eternal Hills Memory Gardens.

Ronald E. James

Ronald E. James, 70, of Monroe died February 24, 2006.

A native of Spotsylvania, VA, he was a son of the late James A. and Ella Baxter James. A resident of Monroe for 12 years, he was employed at Repco, Inc., and formerly employed at Tri Steel, Inc. He had served in the U.S. Army and was a member of Olivet United Methodist Church, Spotsylvania.

Memorial services were held February 26, 2006 in the chapel of Arthur Bowick Funeral Home. The Rev. Kenneth Courts officiated The remains were cremated and the cremated remains will be scattered in the Chesapeake Bay.

he is survived by his widow: Dorothy Morgan James; two daughters: Rhonda James of Monroe and Donna Hower of Fredericksburg, VA; one son: James Morgan of Fredericksburg; one brother; Alfred A. James of Spotsyvania; one grandchild, two great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Gaynell P. Stephens

Gaynell P. Stephens, 86 of Monroe died Feb. 19, 2006.

A Native of Walton County, she was a daughter of the late Howard Prickett and Pearlie Short Prickett. The widow of J.T. Stephens, She was retired from the Monroe/Walton Mill and was a member of Harvest Baptist Church.

Funeral services were held February 22, 2006 in the chapel of Arthur Bowick Funeral Home. The Rev. Steven Smallwood and The Rev. Tim Shelton officiated and interment was in Hill Haven Memory Gardens. Pall bearers were Randy Spence, Matthew Chancey, Jeff Gunter, Cale Gunter, Chad Gunter and Lt. Col. Ron Stephens.

She is survived by daughters: Jan S. Chancey and Gail (Neal) Gunter and son: Ronnie Stephens all of Monroe; sisters: Eva Mae Dotson of Grand Rapids, MI, Hazel Hopkins of Covington and Betty Roesser of Sacramento, CA; 7 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by sisters: Sybil Hewitt and Isabelle Smith.

Jackson (Jack) E. Peppers

Jackson E. Peppers, infant son of Joby and Melissa Poss Peppers of Good Hope died Feb. 18, 2006.

Funeral services were held Feb. 20, 2006 in the chapel of Arthur Bowick Funeral Home. Rev. Doyle Wallace officiated and interment was in the Good Hope Christian Church Cemetery.

Surviving other than parents are: brother: A.J. Peppers; grandparents: Donald and Nancy Poss and Bobby and Carole Peppers all of Good Hope; aunts and uncles.

Charles Castleberry, Jr.

Charles Castleberry, Jr., age 95 of Monroe died March 24, 2006.

A native of Hall County, he was the son of the late Charles Castleberry, Sr. and Mary Hudson Castleberry. He was a retired grocery man having spent many years with A. & P. Food Stores and moved to Monroe in 1955 to become a partner in Quality Foods. he was a member of the Monroe First Baptist Church and was a Mason and Shriner.

He was married to the late Ruth Smith Castleberry until her death in 1998.

Memorial services were held March 29, 2006 in the Chapel of Arthur Bowick Funeral Home. The Rev. Glen Money and Dr. Todd Ware officiated. The remains were cremated.

Surviving are a daughter: Laura Castleberry and her husband James of Portland, OR; a son: Charles H. Castleberry and his wife Cynthia of Monroe; two sisters: Mary Mauldin of Miami and Martha Funderburk of Tampa; one brother: Garland Castleberry of Gainesville; grandchildren: Michael H. Castleberry and his wife Alicia and George F. Castleberry; three great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Memorials are requested to the Shriners Children's Hospital or Monroe First Baptist Church.

Donald Hopkins
Donald Hopkins, 63 of Monroe, died on March, 2006. He was born in Morgan County, AL. on June 12, 1942 to the late Ruben E. Hopkins and the late Annie Mae Ledford Hopkins.Funeral services were held on Wednesday March 29 at 11am at the chapel of Meadows Funeral Home with the Rev. Russell Davis officiating. Interment followed at Hill Haven Cemetery.

Emma Tibbitts

Emma Tibbitts, 98 of Monroe, Formerly of Conyers, passed away Monday, March 27, 2006.

Funeral services were held at 11:30am, Wednesday, March 29 at the Loganville Chapel of Tim Stewart Funeral Home with Dr. Mark Hargrove officiating. Burial followed at Studdard Cemetery, Rutledge, GA.

Mrs. Tibbitts was preceded in death by: son: James Willard Tibbitts in 2003.

She is survived by: children: Frances and Roy Farmer, Monroe; Johnny and Pat Tibbitts, Decatur; Mary and Larry Blount, Stockbridge; Charles and Sue Tibbitts, Griffin; 10 grandchildren; nine great grandchildren.

Tim Stewart Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Evelyn Perry

Evelyn Perry, 85 of Monroe, died on March 26, 2006. She was born in Hall County on Sept. 23, 1920 to the late Ozzie Seabolt and the late Cordela Davis Seabolt. She was preceded in death by her husband: George Perry.

Surviving are: daughters: Claudette Kittle, Watkinsville and Jo Palmer, Monroe; sisters: Edna Mae O’Neal, Roberta; Flora Lee Satterfield, Gainesville and Barbara Harris, Piedmont, SC; brother: J.B. Seabolt, Cumming; four grandchildren; nine great grandchildren; and three great-great grandchildren.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday March 28 at 11am at the chapel of Meadows Funeral Home with the Rev. Bryan Armour officiating. Interment followed at Hill Haven Cemetery.

Meadows Funeral Home Inc. was in charge of the arrangements.

Dr. Marshall Hinton Everett

Dr. Marshall Hinton Everett, 82 of Loganville died Sunday, March 12, 2006. Funeral services were held at 2pm Thursday, March 16 at Mountain View Baptist Tabernacle, Snellville with remains placed in state at 1:30 pm. The Rev. Carl Leach, Jr., Dr. Thurman Wade and Dr. Don Richards officiated. Burial at Gwinnett Memorial Park, Lawrenceville.

Dr. Everett was a loving father and grandfather and was respected and honored by all his family as a man of God. He always lived what he preached to others. He started preaching in August of 1951 and pastored 14 churches over the years. He founded and pastored Fellowship Baptist Church, Stone Mountain and Gwinnett Hall Baptist Church and Bible College, Lawrenceville.

He also began Macedonia World Baptist Missions and was a member of Mountain View Baptist Tabernacle.

He is survived by: wife of 63 years, Dovie Irene Everett, Loganville; children: John and Brenda Everett, Suwanee; James and Linda Everett, Jesse and Deborah Everett, all of Lawrenceville; brother and sister-in-law: Bernice and Evelyn Everett, Buford; sister: Sara Casper, Statham; nine grandchildren, ten great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

Flowers accepted or memorials to Macedonia World Baptist Missions, P.O.Box 519, Braselton, Georgia 30548.

Tim Stewart Home was in charge of the arrangements.
