Surviving are: husband: Ray Hall, Monroe; daughter and son-in-law: Janice and Douglas Kurasaka, Snellville; sons and daughters-in-law: Michael and Charlie Hall, Monroe, Rick and Renea Hall, Monroe, Darryl C. Hall, Watkinsville; sister: Effie Prather, Monroe; seven grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

James Adcock, 76 of Monroe died on Sept. 17, 2007. He was born on May 28, 1931 in Walton County to the late Claude Clarence Adcock and the late Stella Lee Whitley Adcock. Surviving are: wife: Catherine Adcock, Monroe; sons and daughters-in-law: Mike and Rebecca Adcock, Randy and Patricia Adcock, Benny and Mary Nell Adcock, all of Monroe; daughter and son-in-law: Carolyn and Dwight Wall, Statham; sister: Mary Sue Drucker, Buford; brother and sister-in-law: Ned and June Adcock, Rhome, TX; five grandchildren; seven great grandchildren.

Martha Highsmith, 89 of Monroe died on Sept. 7, 2007. She was born in Walton County on July 4, 1918 to the late Annie Watkins Aycock and the late Henry Jackson “Cap” Aycock. She is survived by her four children and their spouses. Her daughter: Martha Ann Highsmith and her husband Luzerne “Lu” Dias, Decatur; sons and daughters-in-law: James and Julia Highsmith, Canton, Bill and Carolyn Highsmith, Woodstock and Bobby and Mary Highsmith, Monroe; five grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; three great great grandchildren

David L. Gibson (Doke),
David L. Gibson (Doke), 56, of Monroe, passed away, Sunday, Sept. 16, 2007. Memorial Services will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 23, at The Captain’s Table, Hwy 138 and Flat Shoals Road, Conyers. Please send flowers to The Captain’s Table. Born June 27, 1951 in Thomaston, Ga, Upson County, Mr. Gibson was a member of The Doke Brothers Band from 1960’s-1980’s. He played music with Molly Hatchett, Ronnie Van Zandt, Allman Brothers, M. Hook, Jimmy Buffet and others. He played regularly at Alex Cooley’s Electric Ballroom and the Georgia Theatre. Featured on the 96 Rock’s Midnight Hour Album, Mr. Gibson owned CR Recording & Multimedia, Inc. in Monroe. Known for his Southern Rock hard driving songs, he was an inspiration and continues to be so, for Veteran and newcomers alike. He was preceded in death by his mother: Mildred Leachman; brother: Joe Doke.

Gladys Durden Thompson, 88 of Scottdale, Ga died Tuesday, Sept. 18, 2007. She was preceded in death by her husband, J.T. Thompson; son and daughter-in-law: Wallace and Betty Thompson. She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law: Brenda and Earnest Hammons, Conyers; son and daughter-in-law: Herman and Ann Thompson, Lawrenceville; brother and sister-in-law: Willie and Virginia Durden, Covington; grandchildren: Jill Thompson, Snellville, Glenn Thompson, Loganville, Beth Wright, Loganville, David Hammons, Covington, Matt Hammons, Union Point, Tommy Thompson, Lawrenceville and Joseph Thompson, Lawrenceville. Also Surviving are eight great grandchildren and beloved friend, Joyce Garmon of Decatur.

Jeffrey Bruce Adams
Jeffrey Bruce Adams, 46 died on Aug. 11, 2007. He was born on Oct. 14, 1960 to the late Larry J. Adams and Gloria Briscoe. He graduated from Avondale Estates High School in 1977. He entered the Marine Corp on Dec. 12, 1977 and was discharged on Dec. 4, 1981. While in the Marine Corp, he advanced from Lance Corporal to Sergeant. He also attended Coastal Carolina Community College in Jacksonville, NC where he studied Criminal Law. He then moved to Monroe and managed the Monroe Motor Inn.

Kevin Bagley
Kevin Bagley, 34 of Loganville, passed away Wednesday, Sept. 19, 2007. Memorial Services were held at 8pm Friday, Sept 21 in the Loganville Chapel of Tim Stewart Funeral Home. Dr. Ken Ray officiated. Mr. Bagley graduated from Shiloh High in 1991, manager of the boys and girls Basketball, Varsity Football and Junior Varsity Baseball. He participated in the Special Olympics for more than 21 years, active as a Acolyte and in the Children’s Church at Loganville First United Methodist Church. He worked for Creative Enterprises in Gwinnett and Unlimited Services in Walton.

Mark V. Bollnak

Mark V. Bollnak, 77 of Loganville died November 24, 2007.

An Iowa native, he was a retired plumber and had resided in Georgia most of his life. A member of the Plumber and Steamfitters Union # 72, he had served in the U.S. Army.

Funeral services were held November 28, 2007 in the chapel of Arthur Bowick Funeral Home. Father Daniel Toof was the officiant and interment was in Barrow Memorial Gardens, Winder, GA.

He is survived by sisters: Mary and William Dickman of New Windsor, NY; Catherine and Jimmy Wood of Nashville, TN; Gail and Flory Leo and Beatrice Dickman both of Des Moines, Iowa; brother: Dale and Gennie Bollnak of Searcy, AR; stepson: Danny Yearwood of Winder; special friend: Frances Mooney of Monroe; nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by sisters: Delores Lansing and Clementine Bollnak.

Arthur Bowick, Inc. Funeral Directors were in charge of arrangements.

Morrtitt A. Adcock

Morrtitt A. Adcock, 74 of Monroe died November 24, 2007.

A native and life long resident of Walton County, she was the daughter of the late Charlie and Lilie Mae Knight Adcock. She was the widow of Otis W. Adcock who died in 1994. She was formerly employed by Phillips and Briscoe Drug and Carmichael Drugs and was a member of Harmony Baptist Church.

Funeral services were held November 26, 2007 in Harmony Baptist Church. The Rev. Brant Callaway officiated and interment was in the church cemetery.

Pallbearers were: Steven Adcock, Josh Adcock, Joey Witcher, Chip McGaughey, Maury Adcock and Alex Adcock.

She is survived by a brother and sister-in-law: Edwin and Jimmy Ann Adcock; sisters-in-law: Minnelle Adcock, Lois & Rufus Brown and Elizabeth Walton; brother-in-law: Lamar Hester all of Monroe; nieces and nephews.

Arthur Bowick, Inc. Funeral Directors were in charge of arrangements.

Sarah Edge

Sarah Edge, 88, of Monroe died on Nov. 30, 2007. She was born on May 25, 1919 in Chambers County, Alabama to the late Elizabeth Mitchem Hooten and the late Dru Hooten. She was preceded in death by her husband, the late William Odell Edge and daughter, the late Janice Ellis.

Surviving are daughters and son-in-law: Juanita and Terry Morris of Newnan and Quin Craven of Monroe; son and daughter-in-law: Avery and Gail Edge of Monroe; 16 grandchildren; 25 great grandchildren; 14 great great grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at 3pm on Sunday, Dec. 2nd at the chapel of Meadows Funeral Home with the Reverend Danny Sorrells officiating. Interment will follow at Hill Haven Memorial Gardens.

Meadows Funeral Home, Inc. was in charge of arrangements.

Deborah L. Waldrop

Deborah L. Waldrop, 53 of Buford, GA. died November 11, 2007.

She was a native of Ft. Campbell, KY. and was a daughter of the late James and Laura Hummel Lovette. She was a retired teacher.

Funeral services were held November 15, 2007 in the chapel of Arthur Bowick Funeral Home. The Rev. Charles Carlile officiated and interment was in Rest Haven Cemetery. Pallbearers were Ray Gesualdo, James Paccillo, Kyle Rushing, Daniel Jones, Clarence Waldrop and Roy Fuson.

She is survived by her husband: James Waldrop; daughter and son-in-law: Jessica and James Kobleur of Augusta; son: Van Waldrop of Buford; sisters: Karen Fuson of Fayetteville, NC. and Pam Morrison of Gilbert, SC; brother: Roger Boothe of Elba, AL; nieces and nephews.

Eugene McCullers

Eugene McCullers, 75, of Monroe died on Nov. 18, 2007. He was born on Feb. 24, 1932 in Walton Co. to the late Ola Lea Williams McCullers and the late Olin Lee McCullers.

Surviving are wife: Essie Lou McCullers of Monroe; son: Buster McCullers of Monroe; daughters and son-in-law: Tracey McCullers of Monroe and Kathy and Jerry Miller of Santa Rosa, Fl; brother: Orin McCullers of Bethlehem; grandchildren: Gunner Roberson and Shelby Still, both of Monroe.

Funeral services were held at 11 am on Wednesday, Nov. 21st at the chapel of Meadows Funeral Home with the Reverend Chris Conner officiating. Interment was in Hill Haven Cemetery.

Betty Jane Gilbert

Betty Jane Gilbert, age 59 of Covington passed away, Thurs. November 15, 2007.

Funeral services were held at 11:00 AM, Monday, November 19, 2007 in the Loganville Chapel of Tim Stewart Funeral Home. The Rev. Mike Franklin officiated. Burial was in Kennesaw Memorial Park, Kennesaw.

A homemaker and of the Baptist faith, Mrs. Gilbert is survived by her husband: James Ronald Gilbert of Covington; children: Jenny Marie & Jonathan Lowe of Loganville, Lacey Marie Gilbert of Covington; father: Henry Castellow; brothers and sisters-in-law: Henry & Temple Castellow of Loganville, Kenneth & Pam Buckland of Douglasville; grandchild: Jonathan Baylor Lowe, many nieces & nephews.

Mr. Buford (Buddy) Lewis

Mr. Buford (Buddy) Lewis of Monticello died Nov. 16, 2007 at the age of 66.

Born in Fulton County to the late Daniel Jack and Cliddie Marie Blackman Lewis, he was a former resident of Atlanta and had lived in Monticello for the past 14 years. He retired from General Motors Lakewood Plant with 30 years of service, and was an avid fisherman.

Mr. Lewis is survived by his children: Danny and Tammy Lewis of Monticello, Vickie and Billy Attaway of Jefferson, Barbara and Michael Biddy of Monticello, Pam and Melvin Daly of Griffin, Randy Lewis, Ricky Lewis, Lisa and William Biddy, Patsy and Shane Parham all of Monticello; 20 grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren; sisters: Mildred Dean of Colquitt and Dorothy Cobb of Bainbridge; several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services for Mr. Lewis were held Monday, Nov. 19, 2007 at 11:00 AM in the Chapel of Caldwell & Cowan, 1215 Access Rd. The Rev. Roy Kiser officiated and interment followed at Lawnwood Memorial Park.

Dr. James F. Mathews

Dr. James F. Mathews died on Monday, Nov. 11, 2007 following a brief illness. He was born on Sept. 10, 1921, the son of John James Mathews and Nancy Elizabeth Mathews.

He was a life long member of the First Baptist Church of Monroe where he served in many capacities. He was a veteran of World War 11 where he served in the United States Air Force in Italy and Africa. After being honorably discharged, he returned to Monroe and then went on to finish his education at Columbia University. After which he started his practice of Optometry which he continued for a period of 53 years. He assisted in the organization of the First Republican Party in Walton County and remained a strong supporter of good and fair government throughout his life. He served the city of Monroe as Mayor for ten years and during the tenure he was the instigator for procuring, for the citizens, many additions to our city that continue to be appreciated and enjoyed. His credits include the Mathews Park, the building which now houses the Monroe/Walton Art Guild and many others. He was a man of strong quiet faith and leaned on principal of what is good and fair in making his decisions.

Surviving are wife: Mrs. Rosemary B. Mathews of Monroe; daughter and son-in-law: Lee and Randy Saxton of Gainesville; grandchildren: John and Rhonda Connelly of Monroe; great grandchild: Briana Connelly of Monroe; step daughter and son-in-law: Pamela and William Sullivan of Newnan: step grandchildren: Camp Sullivan and Cathryn Sullivan of Newnan; brother and sister-in-law: Billy and Jeanne Mathews of Meridian, MS.

Funeral Services were held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 15 at the Monroe First Baptist Church with the Rev. Glenn Money officiating.

Joe William Gordon Jr.

Joe William Gordon Jr., age 30 of Monroe, died on Nov. 12, 2007. He was born in Walton County on April 16, 1977 to Connie Ann Denney and Joe “Joey” William Gordon Sr.

Surviving are: wife: Linda Michele Howard of Monroe; son: Christopher Gordon of Monroe; daughter: Alaina Gordon of Monroe; mother and father: Connie Ann Denney Gordon and Joe “Joey” William Gordon Sr. of Monroe; sister and brother-in-law: Amy and Brian Scarborough of Monroe; brother and sister-in-Law: Adam and April Gordon of Monroe.

Funeral Services were held on Thursday Nov. 15 at 2 pm at the First Baptist Church of Youth with the Rev. Joe Reid officiating. Interment followed at the First Baptist Church of Youth Cemetery.

W. Clifford Churchill

W. Clifford Churchill, age 89, of Austell passed away Monday, November 12, 2007. A native of Walton County, he was a member of Austell Church of God and retired from the city of Marietta.

He is preceded in death by his parents: John Marshal and Ila Mae Matthews Churchill; brothers: Melvin and Rufus Churchill.

He is survived by sons: Bill Churchill of Flowery Branch, Terry Churchill of Monroe; daughters: Marilyn Churchill Guinn and Joette Churchill Martin of Monroe; step-sons: Victor E. Allen and David B. Bailey of Marietta, Richard G. Allen of Douglasville; step-daughter: Rosemary Allen McDowell of Powder Springs; eight grandchildren, ten step-grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren, seven step-great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Thursday Nov. 15, 2007 at Gene Davis-White Columns Chapel in Mableton. The Rev. Carson Brown officiated.

Ira B. McCullen Jr.

Ira B. McCullen Jr., 83, formerly of Amory, MS died on Nov.. 8, 2007. He was born on Jan. 3, 1924 to the late Ira B. McCullen Sr. and the late Mary Addie Moore McCullen.

Surviving are: son and daughter-in-law: Ira B. and Kathy McCullen III of Monroe; daughters and sons-in-law: Faith Williams of Lilburn, Mary Ann and Don Foster of Blairsville; Amy and Jim Smith of Colliersville, Tn; five grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at 2:00 pm on Sunday, Nov. 11 at the chapel of E.E. Pickle Funeral Home in Amory, MS. Interment followed at Masonic cemetery in Amory, MS.

Meadows Funeral Home, Inc. was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. James Schleicher

Mr. James Schleicher, age 59 of Loganville died Thursday, Nov. 8, 2007 after a short illness.

Born July 20, 1948 in Utica, NY. James retired from the Internal Audit Department of Consolidated Freightways.

He is predeceased by his parents: Lynn and Doris Schleicher and his sister: Margaret Lovell.

Surviving are his wife: Debra; 3 children: Nicola (Nicki) and Jack Chanecka, Nathan, Trevor and Lindsay Schleicher; his three grandchildren: Andin, Holden and Arianna; a brother and two sisters, sisters and brothers-in-law, many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Per his wishes there will be no memorial service and in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Muscular Dystrophy Association, P.O. Box 78960, Phoenix, AZ 85062-8960.

Virginia A. Mathis

Virginia A. Mathis, 90, of Monroe died Nov. 6, 2007.

A native of Morgan Co. she was a daughter of the late Paul and Leila DeLoach Allen. The widow of Buddie E. Mathis, she was retired from Carwood Mfg. Co. and was a member of Mt. Vernon Christian Church.

Funeral services were held Nov. 9, 2007 in the chapel of Arthur Bowick Funeral Home. The Rev. Chip Wheeler and Dr. Earl Goode officiated and interment was in Westlawn Memorial Cemetery. Pallbearers were Greg Brooks, Sam Brooks, Wes Brooks and Austin Brooks.

She is survived by a daughter: Harriett M. Brooks of Bethlehem; sisters: Nina Nix and Irene White all of Monroe, Alice Burgess of Watkinsville; brothers: Tom Allen and Emmitt Allen both of Mt. City, Wesley E. Allen of Stockbridge and James Allen of Monroe; grandsons: Greg and Robin Brooks of Watkinsville an Sam Brooks of Bethlehem; 3 great-grandchildren: Wes Brooks, Austin Brooks and Linley Brooks; nieces and nephews.
