Robert “Rab” Kelly

Robert “Rab” Kelly, age 91 of Conyers, Ga, passed away Friday, April 18, 2008.

He was preceded in death by his mother and father: Merle and James Kelly; brothers: Harold Kelly, Harland Kelly, Jim Kelly and Billy Kelly; sisters: Carmen Hardeman and Frances Blomeyer, and daughter-in-law: Carolyn Kelly.

He is survived by his wife of sixty years: Betty Kelly; daughter and son-in-law: Ruth and David McGaughey of Lawrenceville; son: Bob Kelly of Monroe; sister: Dot Leslie of McDonough; grandchildren and their spouses: Shelly and Jason Blalock, Courtney and Cory O’Brien; grandson: Collin Kelly; great grandchildren: Tabor Cruise, Garon Byrd; Kella Reese Blalock and Brody Patrick and Ella Carolyn O’Brien.

A Mason and avid Ga Tech fan and a native of Monroe, Rab served in the US Army during WW11. He was a lifetime member of Confederate Avenue Baptist Church.

Rab retired from Southern Bell Telephone and Telegraph Company and was a Pioneer Life member.

A Graveside Service was held Tuesday, April 22 at 2 p.m. at Resthaven cemetery in Monroe with Dr. George Thomas officiating.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Carolyn Kelly Inspired Teachers Scholarship c/o Kellie Collins United Community Bank, P.O. Box 398, Blairsville Ga 30514.

Tom M. Wages Funeral Service, LLC Snellville Chapel was in charge of the arrangements.

Willie Frances Thompson

Willie Frances Thompson, age 83 of Between passed away on Saturday April 19, 2008.

Funeral services were held on Monday, April 21, 2008 at New Hope United Methodist Church, Between. The Rev. Chris Laskey officiated. Burial was in the church cemetery.

A Homemaker, Miss Thompson was a member of New Hope United Methodist Church in Between all of her life and a member of the United Methodist Women’s Club.

She is survived by brother & sister-in-law: James Pascal & Gaye Thompson of Between; nephews: Mike & Celia Thompson of Gainesville, DR. Byron & Laura Thompson of Between; nieces: Julie & Mike Cook of Between, Stephanie & Jeff Fennell of Loganville; numerous great nieces & nephews and 1 great-great niece.

Arthur Bowick Funeral Directors, 823 E. Spring St. Monroe, Georgia was in charge of the arrangements.

Betty Price

Betty Price, 76, of Monroe died on April 15, 2008. She was born on Feb. 13, 1932 in Henry County to the late Gladys Carter and the late Grady Carter. She was preceded in death by her grandson, the late Paul Autry.

Surviving are husband: James “Buddy” Price of Monroe; daughter and son-in-law: Marcia and Marvin Autry of Monroe; brothers: Larry Carter of Covington and Henry Carter of Blairsville; grandchildren: Steven Autry and Jason Autry, both of Monroe.

Funeral services were held at 11:00 am on Saturday, April 19th at the chapel of Meadows Funeral Home with the Rev. Glenn Money officiating.

Interment followed at Lawnwood cemetery in Covington.

Meadows Funeral Home, Inc. was in charge of arrangements.

Betty Jane Wilkins

Betty Jane Wilkins, 66, of Monroe died on April 3, 2008. She was born on May 28, 1941 in Lumpkin County to Willie Leola Whitmire Tolbert and Claude Tolbert.

Surviving are husband: James M. Wilkins of Monroe; son: Scott Wilkins of Crawford; daughter: Teresa Wilkins of Monroe; sisters: Billie Doris Chambers of Lawrenceville and Bernice Trammel of Elijay; brother: Jerry Tolbert of Brooksville, Fl; grandchildren: Josh and Ginger Miller of Winder, Cpl Justin and Lanita Cash of Fairbank, Alaska; great grandchildren: Lilly Hussy of Winder and Kamron Miller of Winder.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, April 5th at the chapel of Meadows Funeral Home with the Troy Walden and the Rev. Bennie Parr officiating. Interment followed at Resthaven Cemetery.

James C. Robinson

James C. Robinson, age 87 of 1026 Windsor Drive, died April 17, 2008 at New London Health Care in Snellville, GA.

He was born on April 10, 1921 in Warren, NY, the son of William S. Robinson and Charlotte Derthick. He graduated from Richfield Springs Central School in 1940, and later earned a degree in Business Management from Mohawk Valley Community College.

On November 19, 1949 he married Dorothy E. Sturges in Mohawk, NY.

For 35 years he was employed by Remington Rand/Sperry Univac, and retired in 1891 from the Bristol, TN. location after a transfer in 1976. He was a veteran of W.W.II, serving in the U. S. Army in the China-Burma India theater. He was a member of the American Legion. He enjoyed fishing and golfing.

He is survived by two sons: William J. (Jimmy) Robinson of Little Falls, NY. and John E. Robinson of Monroe, GA; one daughter and son-in-law: Jayne and Dave Rogers of Loganville, GA; one sister: Eleanor Pawlowski of Cohoes, NY; one granddaughter and her husband: Jennifer and Rob Allen of Monroe; and one Step-grandson: Randy Rogers of Pusan, South Korea. He was predeceased by his wife: Dorothy Robinson and by a sister: Gean Shepherd.

Funeral services will be held at 2 PM on Monday, April 21, 2008 at Arthur Bowick Funeral Home in Monroe, GA, with viewing one hour before the funeral. Interment will follow at Lakeview cemetery in Richfield Springs, NY on Friday, May 2, 2008 at 1 PM.

Terri Elaine Astin Campbell

Terri Elaine Astin Campbell, age 53 of Social Circle, died on April 11, 2008. She was born in Morgan County on September 1, 1954 to the late Chester “Pete” Paul Astin and Sally Jo House Astin.

Surviving are: son: John Clinton Campbell of Kennesaw; daughter: Ashley Lynn Campbell of Social Circle; sister: Lynn Wilson of Social Circle; brothers: Paul Astin of Rutledge and Chuck Astin of Social Circle; grandchild: Brittany Kitchens of Social Circle.

Donations can be made to the American Heart Association, 1101 Northchase Parkway, Suite 1, Marietta, GA 30067, in lieu of flowers.

A Private Memorial Service will be held at a later date.

Lisa Y. Wallace

Lisa Y. Wallace, age 42 of Monroe passed away Tuesday, April 15, 2008.

Funeral services were held Thursday, April 17, 2008 in Monroe Chapel of Arthur Bowick, Inc. Funeral Directors. The Rev. Steve Yancey, The Rev. Tim Stephens & The Rev. Jim Bolton officiated.

Burial was in Westlawn Cemetery.

A member of First Assembly of God in Monroe, Mrs. Wallace was preceded in death by her brother: Mike Yancey.

She is survived by her Husband: Donnie Wallace; children: Daniel Wallace, Robert Wallace, all of Monroe, Chris Wallace of Grayson, Ashli Brooks of Clarksville; parents: Lamar & Brenda Yancey of Monroe; brother: Danny Yancey of Acworth; sister: Tina Harrison of Monroe; 12 grandchildren; several aunts, uncles, nieces & nephews.

Tina P. Merritt

Tina P. Merritt, age 49 of Monroe died April 14, 2008.

She was born in Barrow County to Pat Mann Sorrells of Monroe and the late Benny Ray Peppers.

She was a 1977 graduate of Oconee County High School.

Survivors are: daughter and son-in-law: Jessica and Adam Edwards; daughter: Tamara “Loopie” Merritt; Brothers: Chuck Mann, Tony Mann, Tyler Mann and Mark Mann; sister and brother-in-law: Amanda and Eric Moran; and a host of nieces and nephews.

A Memory Service was held at 4 p.m. on Wednesday the 16th at Smith Memory Chapel.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to The Pacific Vascular Research Foundation, 400 Oyster Point Blvd, Suite 130 South San Francisco, CA 94080.

Rev. Mack Carter

Rev. Mack Carter, 88, of Sparks, Ga., passed away April 10, 2008 at his residence. He was born March 17, 1920 in Berrien County to the late Joel Washington Carter and the late Lillie Fender Carter Britt. He lived all of his life in Cook County, was a WW II Army Veteran, retired minister and farmer, and was a member of Beulah Holiness Baptist Church. He was the oldest ordained minister in the Holiness Baptist organization. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Ethelee Myers Carter; two brothers, Marcus Carter and Julius “Pete” Carter; and a sister, Estelle Carter Powell Wheeler.

Survivors include two daughters and sons-in-law: Mr. and Mrs. John P. Stevens, Sr. (Joyce Carter Stevens) and Mr. and Mrs. Glen Douberley (Wanda Carter Douberley); granddaughter and grandson-in-law: Mr. and Mrs. Jeremy Meares (Leslie Douberley Meares); great grandson: Elijah Chase Meares; three step-grandchildren; six step-great-grandchildren; two nephews; seven nieces; and several great-nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held at 3 p.m., Sunday, April 13 at Beulah Holiness Baptist Church with Rev. Donnie Sloan officiating. Interment followed in Beulah Church Cemetery. Visitation was held Saturday, April 12 from 7-9 p.m. at Boone-Lipsey Funeral Home, Hwy. 41 North.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Boys and Girls Club, P.O. Box 893, Adel, GA 31620, or to Bethany Hospice, 2517 Bemiss Road, Suite D, Valdosta, GA 31602.

Ray H. Cooper

Ray H. Cooper, age 90 of Monroe passed away Tuesday, April 8, 2008.

He was the son of Ruben H. Cooper, Sr. and Amelia Stevens Cooper.

Funeral services were held on Friday, April 11, 2008 in Center Hill Baptist Church, Monroe. The Rev. Marion Prather and The Rev. Randy Stickland officiated. Interment was in Center Hill Baptist Church Cemetery.

Mr. Cooper was a devoted Husband, father and grandfather, member of Center Hill Baptist Church, Helping Hands Club, and he was a member of the American Legion for over 50 years. He also retired from Stone Mountain Maintenance Department.

He is survived by wife: Margaret Cooper of Monroe; son: Donnie Cooper of Cumming; daughter & son-in-law: Elaine & Louie Moon of Loganville; sister-in-law: Sarah Cooper of Monroe; grandchildren: Lori & Jimmy Smallwood, Brian & Angie Moon; great-grandson: Noah Smallwood; several nieces & nephews.

Charles Green Sr.

Charles Green Sr., 66, of Monroe died on March 30, 2008. He was born on May 22, 1941 in Morgan Co. to the late Irene Taylor Green and the late Winboun Green.

Surviving are wife: Louise Green of Monroe; sons: Charles F. Green, David Green, and Scott Green; daughter: Suzanne Green Black of Statham; brother: Jesse Green of Bethlehem; eight grandchildren; four great grandchildren.

Funeral services were held at 4:00 pm on Tuesday, April 1st at Hickory Grove Baptist Church with the Reverend Chris Yancey and the Reverend Frankie Green officiating. Interment followed at Hickory Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.
