Donna Rhea Callaway “Bay” Reid, age 52, of Greensboro, GA, died Saturday, May 12, 2012 at her residence surrounded by her loving family. Born on June 18, 1959 in Warner Robins, GA, she was the daughter of Barbara Jean Moon Callaway of Greensboro, GA and the late Calvin Jackson. In 1977 she graduated from Greene County High School. Donna was a homemaker who loved children and always welcomed them into her home. She was happiest when she was with her grandchildren and wanted what was best for them. All of her life she was a sports enthusiast and enjoyed coaching and playing softball. She was affectionately known as “Bay” since the birth of her first grandchild, Trey. Donna also enjoyed arts and crafts and keeping up with the Greene County basketball team.

In addition to her husband, Roosevelt Reid, Jr. of Greensboro, GA, she is survived by her mother, Barbara M. Callaway of Greensboro, GA; a daughter, April Christopher of Greensboro, GA; a son, A J Christopher (Nikki) of Conyers, GA; three sisters, Anne Martin (Wyatt) of Greensboro, GA; Lynn Callaway of Greensboro, GA and Susan Dooley (Victor) of Crawford, GA; mother-in-law, Louise Griggs (Johnny) of Madison, GA, three sisters-in-law, Pamela Cummings, Donna Reid (Tyrone) and Felicia Fulton (Ernest) all of Madison, GA; brother-in-law, Michael Reid (Kim) of Greensboro, GA; four grandchildren, Treyvion Christopher, Garryick “Scooter” Christopher, Jonathan Thomas and Anslee Christopher; and a number of nieces, nephews and many friends. She was preceded in death by her step-father, William Reid Callaway, Sr. and her father, Calvin Jackson.

Funeral Services will be held Wednesday, May 16, 2012 at 12 noon at McCommons Chapel with Rev. Johnny Lewis officiating. Interment will follow in the Greenview Cemetery, Memorial Drive, Greensboro, GA 30642. Serving as pallbearers are Jakell Woodruff, Demone Kemp, Damien Kemp, Trenton Reid, Quindarins “Tookie” Brown and Tradarious Wynn. Honorary pallbearers are the Junior Varsity Tigers Basketball Team and Coach Steve McNeise. Evabel Joiner Goldstein
(September 13, 1919 -May 13, 2012)

Evabel Emily Joiner Goldstein, age 92, of Greensboro, GA, died Sunday, May 13, 2012 at Greene Point Health Care and Rehab. She was born in Emanuel County, GA on September 13, 1919 to the late Thomas Bailey Joiner, Jr. and Eva Bell Hall Joiner. She attended Summertown High School and graduated from Midville High School. She went on to Georgia Baptist Hospital School of Nursing graduating in 1940 and becoming a Registered Nurse. Evabel was one of the first stewardesses recruited by Delta Airlines, in 1941, a time when stewardesses were also required to be nurses. She married Samuel Charles Goldstein in 1941, and they moved to Greensboro after World War II, where she and Sam owned and operated Interstate 5 & 10, the Clothes Closet and The Casual Shop in downtown Greensboro until the mid-1970’s. She also nursed at Minnie G. Boswell Hospital and did private duty nursing as well. In all she worked for forty-six years retiring in October of 1983. She was a member of Willow Springs Church in Social Circle, where she played the harmonica, tambourines and maracas during the worship service until her mid eighties.

She was preceded in death by her husband Samuel Charles Goldstein in 1975. She is survived by a daughter, Ingrid G. Smith (Tom) of Starke, FL; a son, Glenn Goldstein (Doris)of Frankfort, KY; a sister, Sammie J. Wyatt of Swainsboro, GA; a brother, T. Bailey Joiner, III (Candis) of Midville, GA; two grandsons, Richard “Dick” Smith (Sherry) of Port Orange, FL and Brad (Nicole) Smith of Starke, FL; three great grandchildren, Hogan Smith and Hayden Smith both of Port Orange, FL and Bailey Grace Smith of Starke, FL; and a number of other relatives and friends.

Funeral Services will be held Thursday, May 17, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at McCommons Chapel with Rev. J. C. Studdard officiating. Interment will follow in the Greenview Cemetery, Memorial Drive, Greensboro, GA 30642. Serving as pallbearers are Mark Bowers, Gerald Torbert, Tim Pickett, Jack Chandler, David Torbert and David Kopp. The family will receive friends from 12:00 noon until time for the service at McCommons Funeral Home in Greensboro, GA. Richard Thomas Adams
(May 14, 1954 -May 30, 2012)

Richard Thomas Adams, age 58, of Union Point, GA, died Wednesday, May 30, 2012 at his residence surrounded by his loving family. Born in Long Beach, California on May 14, 1954, he was the son of the late George Thomas Adams and Ann Ellison Adams of Union Point, GA. He graduated from Greene County High School and attended Athens Technical College. He worked for the Greene County Commissioners as a maintenance man. Richard was a member of Wesley Chapel Church.

In addition to his mother, Ann Ellison Adams of Union Point, GA, he is survived by a daughter, Sherra Adams McFarland of Union Point, GA; two sons, Richard Tyus Adams and George Zeb Adams; two brothers, Stacy Adams and wife Sally of the Liberty Community and Donald Jay Adams and wife Lorine of Greensboro, GA; grandchildren, Blane and Kylah McFarland, Alley Adams, Lora Leigh Adams and Katey and Josh Hargrave; god-grandchild, Emily Mize; nephew, Johnny Adams and wife Whitney; great nephew, William Adams; older brother and dear friend of the family, Henry McWhorter, his beloved dog, Bandit; and a number of other relatives and friends.

John William "Bill" Trotter
(June 30, 1945 -May 15, 2012)

John William “Bill” Trotter, age 66, of Reynolds Plantation, Greensboro, GA, died Tuesday, May 15, 2012 at St. Mary’s Good Samaritan Hospital in Greensboro, GA. He was born in Charlotte, NC on June 30, 1945 to the late John Beryl Trotter and Josephine Jeter Trotter. He was a graduate of Kirkwood High School and then attended Auburn University where he started flight training. He became an airline pilot working for Continental Airlines for twenty-four years retiring in 2007. He married the former Charlene Ann Roadman on June 24, 1989. They have lived at Reynolds Plantation since 2000 where he enjoyed playing golf.

He is survived by his wife, Charlene Ann Roadman Trotter of Greensboro, GA; a stepson, Brian Ellis of Port Charlotte, FL; a sister, Cindi Peel and husband Edwin of Nashville, TN; his beloved pet cats, Rocky and Natasha; and many friends.

Louise Brooks Canup
(May 10, 1923 -June 18, 2012)

Mary Louise Brooks Canup, age 89, of Union Point, GA, died Monday, June 18, 2012 at St. Mary’s Hospital. Mrs. Canup was born in Lexington, GA in Oglethorpe, County to the late Waver Brooks and Lucy Mae Sanders Brooks. For more than forty years she was a knitter at Chipman Union in Union Point. She was a member of Bethel Baptist Church in Union Point, GA.

She is survived by her daughters, Joann Mixon and husband Dwight of Crawford, GA, Lillie C. Piland of Woodville, GA, Ada C. Smithmier of Cartersville, GA; a son, J. W. Jack Armstrong Stauffer
(April 21, 1931 -June 5, 2012)

Jack Armstrong Stauffer, age 81, of Greensboro, GA and born in Griggsville, IL April 21, 1931, was the youngest child of eight born to Altah Armstrong Stauffer and Jacob Christopher Stauffer, passed away June 4, 2012.

Mr. Stauffer is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Jo Ann; daughters, Deborah (Bob) Burns, Pamela Braswell and son, Timothy Stauffer; six grandchildren and twelve great grandchildren.

Mr. Stauffer worked 42 years with the Denver and Rio Grande Western Railroad and later retired as a Director of Regional Sales with the Southern Pacific Railroad.

He was an avid golfer and sports fan and woodworker. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Church of Christ Helping Hands Fund, 4700 Carey Station Road, Greensboro, GA 30642

Carol Diane Willis
(April 15, 1947 -June 20, 2012)

Carol Diane Rowland Willis, age 65, of Greensboro, GA, died Wednesday, June 20, 2012 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Athens, GA. A lifelong resident of Greene County, she was born April 15, 1947 in Greensboro. Diane was the daughter of Carol Beatrice Ransom Rowland and the late John D. Rowland. She graduated from Floyd T. Corry High School. For many years she worked at Lena Hy sewing factory and was the manager of Hardee’s of Greensboro. Diane was a member of Ebenezer AME Church of Greensboro. She enjoyed flowers, cooking and taking care of her family.

Diane is survived by her mother, Carol Rowland; husband, Garfield Willis of Greensboro, GA; two daughters, Vickie Lumpkin (Nathaniel) of Greensboro, GA and Kenyotta King (Roy) of Greensboro, GA; three sons, James Rowland (Cathy) of Greensboro, GA, Anthony Rowland of Atlanta, GA and Christopher Johnson (Jillian) of Greensboro, GA; two sisters, Mary White and Brenda Span of Greensboro, GA; twelve grandchildren, Marian (Jesse), Wendy, Vincent, Leslie, ZiQuon, Zirekus, Javion, Allen, Tolanda, Kaniesha, DeMarcus and Patrick; five great grandchildren, Jesse Broadus III, Dreyfuss Latimore, Aniyah Rowland, Ariana Rowland and Britian Broadus; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Elmer Joe Lane
(November 17, 1937 -August 30, 2012)

Elmer Joe Lane, 74 of Union Point, Georgia died on Thursday, August 30, 2012, at the home of his daughter surrounded by loved ones. Born November 17, 1937 in Gate City, Virginia, he was the son of the late Douglas Lee Lane of Kingsport, TN and the late Lula Bell Akers Lane of Gate City, VA. He served in the United States Army for two years. He was the husband of Linda Sue Frericks Lane. They married June 17, 1961 in Illinois and recently celebrated their fifty-first anniversary. They had lived in Union Point for the last twenty-eight years. He was employed by Chipman Union as a fixer retiring after twenty years of service. Joe enjoyed working on cars and being with his family.

Surviving are his wife, Linda Lane of Union Point, GA; sons, Robert J. Lane and Debra of Athens, GA and Joshua Stephens of Sandersville, GA; daughters, Rhonda Kaye Mann and Chris of Greensboro, GA, Treasa Ann Stephens of Union Point, GA and Angela Stephens of Union Point, GA; brothers, Robert Lane and Betty of Madison, TN, Frank Lane of Gate City, VA and Carl Lane and Gladys of Church Hill, TN; sister, Peggy Faulkner of Philadelphia, TN; 22 grandchildren including Daniel Clements, Adam and Jenny Clements and Mandy Mann; 16 great grand children; and a number of other relatives and friends.

Ruby Taylor Sorrow
(April 8, 1919 -July 5, 2012)

Ruby Mitchell Taylor Sorrow, age 93, of Union Point, Georgia died Thursday, July 5, 2012 at Greene Point Health Care and Rehab in Union Point, GA. Born in Rayle, GA in Wilkes County on April 8, 1919 she was the daughter of the late Otis Mitchell Taylor and Mary Kathryn Echols Taylor. She attended school in Rayle and was a member of Sardis Baptist Church. In 1938 she married the late Julious Venson “J.V.” Sorrow who preceded her in death in October of 1995. Ruby was a homemaker and enjoyed working in her yard and growing flowers.

In addition to her husband, J. V. Sorrow, she was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Taylor Huff; and brothers, Robert Taylor, Grady Taylor and Charles Edward Taylor. She is survived by her daughter, Judith S. Griffith and husband Allen of Union Point, GA; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Penn and Naomi Sorrow of Baltimore, Maryland; sister-in-law, Effie Almond of Perry, GA; grandson, Al Griffith of Cornelia, GA; granddaughter-in-law, Lisa Griffith of Baldwin, GA, granddaughter, Anne Griffith Rhoden and husband Eddie of Union Point, GA; two great grandchildren, Zeke and Eli Griffith; and a number of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Kay Hodges Gutherie
(August 15, 1930 -May 20, 2012)

Kay Hodges Gutherie, age 81, of Dawsonville, GA, formerly of Greensboro, GA, died on Sunday, May 20, 2012 at her residence. Born in Early County, GA on August 15, 1930, she was the daughter of K. J. and Eloise Harris Hodges. She attended high school in Blakely, GA. She graduated from LaGrange College in 1951 and began her teaching career at Tucker Elementary School. She received a Master of Education degree from Georgia State University in 1974. She taught for thirty-three years in DeKalb, Oconee and Greene Counties.

She was preceded in death by son, Samuel Alfred “Al” Gutherie; daughter, Mary Claire Gutherie; and granddaughter, Cassidy Gutherie. She is survived by husband, Samuel Addison Gutherie of Dawsonville formerly of Greensboro; daughters, India Kocina and husband Alan of Cumming and Leslie Smith of Braselton; daughter-in-law, Jan Gutherie of Auburn; grandchildren, Corey Gutherie and wife Audrey, Wesley Riemenschneider and wife Ashley, Erin Riemenschneider and Addison Smith; great granddaughters, Isabel Gutherie and McKenna Riemenschneider; great grandson, Samuel Gutherie; sisters, Charlotte Smith of Avondale and Laura Stooksbury of Hayesville, NC; and a number of other relatives and friends.

Phyllis Ann Carson Hardeman, age 73, of Greensboro, GA, died Wednesday, May 16, 2012 at Abbey Hospice in Social Circle, GA. Born on October 10, 1938 in Bishop, GA, she was the daughter of the late Harrison D. Carson and Rosa Nell Leachman Carson both of Bishop, GA. In 1956 she graduated from Oconee High School. She was a homemaker and a very active and faithful member of Walker United Methodist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ronald Craig “Ron” Hardeman on June 12, 2005. She is survived by a daughter, Renda Kay Rafus of Bishop, GA; two grandchildren, Lindsey Ann Rafus and Colby Craig Rafus; and a number of other relatives and friends.

Michel Samuel Dussack, age 93 of Monroe, died on Oct. 12, 2008. He was born in Montreal, Canada on May 19, 1915 to the late Paul Peter Dussack and Amanda Jane Irene Edwards Dussack. Surviving are: daughter and son-in-law: Vanell and Irene Jellerson of Lawrenceville; daughter-in-law: Kathaleen Dussack of Good Hope; eight grandchildren; and six great grandchildren. Thomas Watson (Watt) McDonald, Jr. died Tuesday, Oct. 14, 2008, at Athens Regional Medical Center. John Sidney Conner
John Sidney Conner, 83 passed away on Friday, Oct. 10, 2008. A native of Walton Co., Mr. Conner was the son of the late Walter David and Susie Pearl OKelley Conner. He was preceded in death by brothers: Harold, Mell, Prince, Carl, Hugh, and Billy Conner and sister: Hilda Griffin. During WWII Mr. Conner served on the USS Yorktown as a pharmacist mate 2nd class and pharmacist technician during the Yokohama and Hiroshima campaigns. He worked for the University of Georgia Cooperative Extension Service and retired from the National Dairy Council. He was distinguished as the first Male volunteer with St. Mary’s Auxiliary and also volunteered with St. Mary’s Hospice House. Mr. Conner was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. Survivors include his wife: Marie Townsend Conner of Statham; daughter: Madelyn Krieger and husband Bob of Statham; grandchildren: Maddi and Conner Krieger both of Statham; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Anthony Philip “TONY” Pascale
Anthony Philip “TONY” Pascale, age 82, of Monroe, GA passed away peacefully at this daughter’s home on Oct. 7, 2008. He is survived by: daughter and son-in-law: Toni and Carl Cucuzza of Monroe; son and daughter-in-law: Philip and Maria Pascale of Auburn; son and daughter-in-law: Patrick and Connie Pascale of Conyers; sister and brother-in-law: Angela and Ray McKay of Snellville; 18 grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Tony was preceded in death by his loving wife of 54 years, Edna. Tony Pascale was born on Sept. 4, 1926 in Bradford, PA to the late Phillip and Mamie (Sica) Pascale. An Army veteran, he served as a Sergeant in the Philippine Islands and on Guam in World War II, and was awarded the Purple Heart. After his discharge from the Army, he was a gardener, a factory supervisor, a pizza shop owner, and a circulation manager for the Gwinnett Daily News.

Betty Reid
Betty Reid, age 71 of Monroe, entered the Kingdom of Heaven on Monday, Oct. 6, 2008 from complications after cancer surgery. She was preceded in death by her son: Scott Douglas Reid and her parents: Astor and Blanche Johnson. She is survived by her devoted husband of 53 years: Doug Reid of Monroe, daughter: Ginger Hunter, Florida; son and daughter-in-law: Robbie and Laura Reid, Monroe, brother and sister-in-law: Douglas and Vel Johnson, Marietta; sister: JoAnn Brown, Tucker, g randchildren: Zebulon Hunter, Logan Hunter, Jake Reid, Jesse Reid and her many brothers and sisters-in-law and their families. Betty ran the company business (Reid’s Body Shop) with Doug for many years before she dedicated her time to volunteering. She supported many different organizations including the American Red Cross Blood Drive, F.I.S.H., American Cancer Society, Meals on Wheels, and taught Sunday School as a member of Corinth Christian Church. A Memorial Service celebrating her life was held Saturday, Oct. 11, at 11 a.m. at Corinth Christian Church with Ministers Don Hardison and Lester Waters officiating.

Harriette Collins quietly passed away Oct. 6. A long time resident of Torrance, California, Harriette also lived in Monroe, Georgia; Paducah, Kentucky; Mancelona, Michigan and Cedar Rapids, Iowa. She was well known for her musical talents and also as a teacher for over 40 years. Harriette is survived by her husband: Henry Collins, and children: Kay, John, Char and Rick. Private internment services will be held at Green Hills cemetery in Palos Verdes. A memorial service will be held Friday, October 17th, at 3 p.m. at St. Peters by the Sea Presbyterian Church in Rancho Palos Verdes. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent in Harriette's name to the City of Hope

Clyde Alfred Eggleston
Clyde Alfred Eggleston, age 68 of Monroe, died on Oct. 2, 2008. He was born in Greenbriar County, West Virginia on Aug. 11, 1940 to the late Bertha Bryant Eggleston and Earnest Eggleston. Surviving are: wife: Judy Darlene Carter Eggleston of Monroe; sisters: Dora Long of Loganville and Helen Gross of Gilbert, West Virginia; brother: Jimmy Eggleston of White Lake, Michigan. Funeral Services were held on Oct. 3 at 5 p.m. at the Chapel of Meadows Funeral Home with the Rev. Billy Autry and the Rev. Jake Davis officiating. Interment followed at Blue Ridge Memorial Garden in Beckley, West Virginia.

He was born in Newton County on Dec. 30, 1945 to Lucile Ragan Watson and the late William “Bill” David Watson Sr. Surviving are: wife: Marie Watson of Monroe; son and daughter-in-law: Paul and Colleen Watson of Loganville; daughter and son-in-law: Steffanie and Larry Petty of Albany; mother: Candis Lucile Watson of Monroe; brother: Stanley Watson of Griffin; and six grandchildren. Funeral Services were held on Saturday Oct. 4 at 2 p.m. at the Chapel of Meadows Funeral Home with the Rev. Jim Draper and Dr. Frank Perry Jr. officiating. Interment followed at Westlawn Cemetery
