He is survived by his wife: Evelyn Claudette Matthews Kittle of Gainesville; sons: Dicky Kittle of Athens, Russell Kittle of Lawrenceville; step-sons and step-daughter-in-law: Kevin Kirk of Athens, Keith and Tammy Kirk of Monroe; daughters and sons-in-law: Laura and Carl Hunter of Jacksonville, FL, Susan and Tom O’Brien of North Carolina, Jill and Ted Thistle of Brasstown, NC; brother and sister-in-law: Arthur and Virginia Kittle of Bogart; 13 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren. A Graveside Service was held on Sunday, March 22, at 2 p.m. at Hill Haven cemetery with the Rev. Bill Ricketts and the Rev. Ted Thistle officiating.

Hayden Reece Cole age 93 of Social Circle passed away on March 13, 2009. He served his country during WWII in the U.S. Army. He is survived by his wife of 67 years: Margaret; daughter: Joyce Stiehl, Social Circle; brother: Bill Cole, Keeling,VA; grandchildren: Heather Smith, Shane Wallace, Leslie Korona. The Funeral Service will be held at 2 p.m., Sunday March 15 in Eternal Hills Chapel with Chaplain Julie Schendel officiating. Interment, Eternal Hills Memory Gardens. Eternal Hills Funeral Home, Snellville was in charge of the arrangements.

Ileana Bentley, age 81 of Monroe, died on March 10, 2009. She was born in Walton County on Nov. 12, 1927 to the late Thomas Benton and the late Nell McDonald Benton. She was preceded in death by her husband, the late Emmett Cleveland and her half-sister: the late Joe Hathcock. She is survived by her sons and daughter-in-law: Terry Bentley of Monroe, David and Elaine Bentley of Monroe; sister: Joan Andrews of Monroe; brother: Barney Benton of Winder; nine grandchildren; eight great grandchildren and one great great grandchild. Funeral Services were held on Friday, March 13, at 2 p.m. at the Chapel of Meadows Funeral Home with the Rev. Lonnie Blackmon officiating. Interment followed at Hill Haven Cemetery. Mildred R. Gatton, age 82 of Monroe, died on March 14, 2009. She was born in Marion County, Indiana on June 20, 1926 to the late Effie May Newman Perry and the late Ralph S. Perry. She was preceded in death by her husband, the late David Jean Gatton. Surviving are: daughters and sons-in-law: Susan and Bill Menzie of Monroe and Kathryn Larsen of Covington; son: David Gatton of McDonough ; six grandchildren, and two great grandchildren. Funeral Services were held on Monday, March 16, at 2 p.m. at the Chapel of Meadows Funeral Home with the Rev. Brandon Stanley officiating. Mr. Robert Edward Cobb age 78 of Monroe died Sunday, March 15, 2009. He was born Aug. 15, 1930 in Rockdale County to the late William Henry and Julia (Wiggins) Cobb. Mr. Cobb was retired from Lithonia Lighting. He is preceded in death by his parents and his wife Margaret Elizabeth (Chandler) Cobb. Survivors include: his beloved Chihuahua: Peanut; daughter and son-in-law: Janice and Ralph Blackmon of Conyers; sons and daughter-in-law: James Edward Cobb, Ricky Cobb, Bobby Cobb, Danny and Donna Cobb, all of Monroe; sister: Clara Mae Sorrows; brother: James Edison Cobb, both of Conyers; 13 grandchildren, five grandchildren, several nieces and nephews. The Funeral Service for MR. Cobb will be held at 3 p.m. on Wednesday, March 18 in the Chapel of Wheeler Funeral Home with the Rev. Terry Chandler officiating. Peggy Brown Hudson
Peggy Brown Hudson, age 75 of Monroe, GA/South Hill, VA, went to be with our Lord on March 15, 2009, after a long, courageous battle with cancer. She was born in Walton County on April 23, 1933 to the late John Harry Brown, Sr. and the late Sally Thomas Brown. She lived in Monroe for most of her life and was a member of the First Baptist Church for more than 65 years. She taught Sunday school and played the piano during her early years. Peggy loved to travel. She and her husband traveled all of the United States and to many foreign countries. She is survived by her husband: Bobby F. Hudson, Sr. of Monroe; step-son and step-daughter-in-law: Bobby and Kerry Hudson of Valdosta; brother and sister-in-law: Harry and Barbara Brown, Jr. of Monroe; niece and nephew: Donna and Mark Sisk of Monroe, and Al Brown of Social Circle; great nephews: Wesley Sisk, Taylor Sisk, Chase Sisk, all of Monroe; and a host of special friends.

William Thomas “Tom” Bell, Jr.
William Thomas “Tom” Bell, Jr., age 66 of Monroe, died March 15, 2009. Mr. Bell was a graduate of Georgia Tech where he was a member of Sigma Chi Fraternity. He received his Masters degree from Georgia State University. He served on the Army Corp of Engineers during the Vietnam War, worked for Delta Air Lines for 25 years where he served as Vice President of Airport Customer Service, was a member of the Julienton River Club, served on the Walton County Board of Commissioners, was a Walton EMC Board Member, and a member of Monroe First Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his first wife: Bettye Jean Bell and father: William Thomas Bell, Sr. He is survived by his wife: Beth Bell of Monroe; children: Jennie Bell of Brooklyn, NY and Jeff Bell of Atlanta; mother: Anne P. Bell of Gainesville; sister: Linda Dorsey of Gainesville.

Bryant F. Palmer, age 87 of Loganville passed away Thursday, March 5, 2009. Funeral Services were held 1 p.m. Saturday at Corinth Christian Church, Loganville with Minister Lester Waters officiating. Burial Corinth Memorial Gardens, Loganville. A member of Corinth Christian Church and Loganville American Legion, Mr. Palmer was a retired Staff Sergeant in the U. S. Air Force with 22 years of service and Owner/Operator of American Gas Station in Loganville for many years. He was preceded in death by his grandson Chris Lively in 1986 and is survived by: wife of 63 years: Margaret Palmer; children: Sherrian and Robert Lively, all of Loganville; Sandra and Stanley Purifoy, Sylvester; Pam and Jimmy Stapp, Rutledge; five grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; many nieces and nephews.

Edyth S. Heckathorn
Edyth Heckathorn, age 84, of Marietta, GA died on March 5, 2009 after an extended illness. She was born in Mahoning County, OH on Sept. 19, 1924 and was raised in New Castle, PA where she lived until 1974. She moved to Monroe, GA in 1974 where she remained until 2007 when she relocated to Marietta, GA. She was a retired homemaker and enjoyed 60 years of marriage to Ralph E. Heckathorn who died in 2004. She was an active member Ray Memorial Presbyterian Church where she was a member of the Irene Nowell Women’s Circle and participated in Saints Alive Christian social activities. She enjoyed bowling and playing golf most of her life. She was often seen at local church and school sporting events where she cheered for friends and family. She is survived by three children: Melanie Nord of Shelbyville, IN, Larry and Janet Heckathorn of Cranberry Twp, PA and Peggy Cowan of Marietta, GA. She was proud to claim eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. She is also survived by two brothers: Richard Snow of Cranberry Twp, PA and Dr. and Mrs. James S. Snow of New Castle, PA as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 28, at 11 a.m. at Ray Memorial Presbyterian Church in Monroe, GA

Helen Gaynelle Tucker/“Granny Tucker”, age 76 of Loganville, died on March 6, 2009. She was born in Greene County on July 27, 1932 to the late Clyde Williams and the late Helen Hansford Williams. She was preceded in death by her husband, the late Donald Elwin Tucker. She is survived by her children and their spouse’s: Thomas A. Tucker of Jersey, GA, Donna T. and Tom Preston of Rutledge, GA, Mary Helen and Taylor Chapman of Fairfax, VA, Mark and Keri Tucker of Easton, MD, Jeff and Aimee Tucker of Loganville, GA; 10 grandchildren and three great grandchildren.

Interment followed in Sandy Creek Baptist Church Cemetery. He is survived by his daughter and son-in-law: Evelyn and Bobby Fox of Madison; daughter: Shirley Ann Astin of Ohio; sons and daughters-in-law: Charlie and Doris Jenkins of Madison; Lester Lee and Pat Jenkins of Roberta, GA; 19 grandchildren; 39 great-grandchildren; nieces and nephews.

Melvin Hall, age 90 of Social Circle, died on March 3, 2009. He was born in Gwinnett County on May 8, 1918 to the late Zack Hall and the late Dealie Brady Hall. He was preceded in death by his son, the late Edwin Hall. He is survived by his daughters: Shirley Welch of Franklin, NC, Brenda Cotner of Social Circle, Linda Golden of Social Circle, Irene Queen of Social Circle; sister: Virginia Smith of Snellville; 11 grandchildren; 28 great grandchildren and six great great grandchildren. Funeral Services were held on Friday, March 6, at 2 p.m. at the Chapel of Meadows Funeral Home with the Rev. Wayne Durden officiating. Interment followed at Youth Baptist Church Cemetery. Everett S. (Mac) McAlister
Everett S. (Mac) McAlister of Loganville, and formerly of Titusville, FL, went home to his eternal reward on Sunday, March 1, 2009. He was preceded in death by son: Kevin McAlister in 1974 and is survived by his wife of 55 years: Patricia A. McAlister; daughters: Cindy Bowers and husband Phil of Lilburn, Linda Cheek and husband Chris of Lawrenceville; granddaughters: Ashley Wood of Lawrenceville, Kate Bowers of Abilene, TX, and Amanda Bowers of Lilburn; sister Harriet Perrett of Pittsburgh, PA; and numerous nieces, nephews and cherished friends. Mac was born in Pittsburgh, PA on May 20, 1932. A veteran of the U.S. Air Force during the Korean War, he received a degree in electrical engineering from the University of Pittsburgh in 1960. He began his career in the aerospace industry in 1960 with Boeing Aerospace and retired in 1996 after a career spent primarily at the Kennedy Space Center in Cape Canaveral, FL, where he was actively involved in the Mercury, Gemini, Apollo and Space Shuttle programs.

She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law: Ray and Susan Sjostrom of San Jose, CA; six grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Funeral Services were held on Saturday, Feb. 28, at 2 p.m. at the Chapel of Meadows Funeral Home with the Rev. Greg Butler officiating. Interment followed at Rest Haven Cemetery. Meadows Funeral Home, Inc. was in charge of arrangements.

Herbert Uno Lovgren
Herbert Uno Lovgren, age 75 of Monroe, died on Feb. 25, 2009. He was born in Philadelphia, PA on March 29, 1933 to the late Carl Uno Lovgren and the late Siri Nilsson Lovgren. He is survived by his wife: Verna Walker Lovgren of Monroe; daughter and son-in-law: Vicki and Bill Landers of Lilburn : sons and daughters-in-law: Marty and Robin Lovgren of Franklin, TN, Jack and Becky Lovgren of Daphne, AL: and seven grandchildren. He graduated from Ridley Park High School in Pennsylvania and worked for Pennsylvania Railroad until joining the Air Force. During the Korean War, he was stationed at Johnson Air Force Base in Japan and later at Tyndall Air Force Base, Panama City, Florida. He worked for AT&T; Co. as an engineer and retired in 1989 after 32 years of service. During this time he served as president of Communications Workers of America, Local 3250. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Monroe, and also a member of Masonic Lodge 603 for 50 years.

Amon Young, age 95 of Monroe, passed away April 17, 2009. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday, April 20, in the Monroe Chapel of Tim Stewart Funeral Home with the Rev. Billy Autry officiating. Interment followed in Hill Haven Memory Gardens. Mr. Young was a former employee of Carwood Manufacturing and was retired from the Winder Housing Authority. He was a member of the Church of God at Oakman. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mae Young and his daughter, Geraldine Cole. He was survived by his wife of 33 years, Jana Duffey Rogers; son, Kristopher and wife Bethane’ Rogers; daughter, Nicole Rogers and son-in-law, Brett Cox; granddaughters, Kathrine and Kristin Rogers; brothers, Rick Rogers and wife Shelia, Mike Rogers and wife Kathy; sister, Jo Anne Oglesby and Bobby Holt; many nieces, nephews, and best friend Big Boy. Mr. Rogers was retired from General Motors after 30 years of service. Funeral services were held Sunday, April 19 at 2 pm at Tom M. Wages Snellville Chapel with Pastor Ben Cathey officiating. Clarence J. Thomas, 75, formally of Athens passed away on Friday, April 17, 2009. A native of Franklin Co., Mr. Thomas was the son of the late William Marion and Myrtle Green Thomas and was also preceded in death by his wife Janice Phelps Thomas and grandson Joshua Moate. He was retied from Salloum Construction Company and was a member of the Baptist faith. Survivors include a daughter: LaVerne Moate of Monroe; brothers: Luther Thomas of Baldwin and Leonard Thomas of Athens; grandchildren: Christiana Peters and Holly Moate and great grandchildren: Briana Christina Peters, Kimberly Faith peters and Brooks Thompson. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Tuesday, April 21st at Bernstein Funeral Home with the Rev. Bryan Armour officiating. Interment followed in Evergreen memorial Park. Pallbearers will be James Thomas Jr., Lance Thomas, Lawrence Thomas, Len Thomas, Raymond Thomas, and Rodney Peters. Bernstein Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

He was preceded in death by his brother: Kenneth “Bam” Phillips, Jr.; grandfather: Mr. John Etchison; his great grandmother: Mrs. Anna Rice. Funeral Services were held on Thursday April 16th at 1pm with Pastor Raymond Hardy delivering the Eulogy, prayer by Pastor Hugo Bryan-Porter.
