Mrs. Rosie Lee Mitchell of Wadley entered into rest on Monday, April 25, 2011, at her residence.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, April 30, 2011, at 2 p.m. at Brinson Hill Baptist Church, Wadley, with Rev. Dr. David Kemp officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.
Survivors include her children, Annie M. (Rev. Samuel) Hunt, Deacon Walter (Frances) Mitchell and Ammie L. Little, all of Wadley, Lizzie M. Bostic of Ormond Beach, Fla., and Mattie M. (J.T.) Smith of Hephzibah; brother, Wilbur Wilcher (Nellie), Wadley; sisters, Lillie M. Allen, Jacksonville, Fla., and Myrtice Wilcher, Miami, Fla.; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
Pallbearers were Deacons of Brinson Hill Baptist Church and Deacons of Spears Grove Baptist Church.

Mr. James Linder “Big Jim” Walden
Mr. James Linder “Big Jim” Walden, 67, of Wrens entered into rest on Sunday, May 1, 2011.
Funeral services will be held at 3 p.m. on Thursday, May 5, 2011, at Wrens Baptist Church, with Rev. Scott McKinney, Dr. James M. Ford and Pastor Bryan Matthews officiating. Burial will follow in the Wrens Memorial Gardens.
The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. until the hour of service at Wrens Baptist Church.
Mr. Walden, a native of Glascock County, was the son of the late Gozie M. and Jeanne Hawkins Walden. He was a Wrens resident for many years and the owner of Big Jim’s Backhoe Service. He was a member of Wrens Baptist Church and attended the Edgehill First Church of God in Christ.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Sue Walden; six sisters, Blanche Van Buren, Hazel McDonald, Pinkie Reames, Pauline Walden, Martha Ellen Walden and Ruth Poole; and two brothers, Eugene Walden and Jimmy Walden.
Survivors include two sons, Jeff (Kristie) Walden and Andy (Angela) Walden; three grandchildren, Rachel, Adam and Evan all of Wrens; three sisters, Ogle Sammons, Edgehill, Sara Annette (Glenn) Marschie, Brownsville, Wis., and Ethel Newsome, Belvedere, S.C.; one brother, J.C. Walden, Waynesboro.
Pallbearers will be Shane Holt, Cliff Johnson, Tony Reese, Clay Walden, Duane Poole, Perry Walden, Charles Walden and Manton Walden.

Mr. Joe Gamble
Mr. Joe Gamble of Jacksonville, Fla., entered into rest on Thursday, April 21, 2011.
Mr. Gamble was born on May 1, 1937, in Bartow to Arthur and Alice Gamble. He attended school in Jefferson County. He was married
to Ruth Washington on Nov. 17, 1984. Mr. Gamble was a foreman with the city of Jacksonville Waster Water Management, where he retired after 32 years of service.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, April 30, 2011, at West Jacksonville Church of God in Christ, Jacksonville, Fla., with Pastor Dr. Gary L. Hall Sr., Elder Timothy Roberts officiating and Elder Anthony Jackson presiding.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Alice Gamble; brother, Arthur Gamble; sister, Missouri Nelson; and stepson, Lavall Brown.
Survivors include his wife of 25 years, Ruth Gamble; three sisters, Louise Jackson (Robert), Hattie Wiggins and Leola Gamble; children, Victoria Foster (Gerald), Terry Gamble (Wylene), Kenneth Gamble (Freda); stepchildren, Josephine Washington, Lorenzo Brown (Deborah), Jenine Jackson (Karl), Jenell Roberts (Timothy); 14 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Mrs. Annie “Ann” Peeples Mauney
Mrs. Annie “Ann” Peeples Mauney, 86, of Wrens entered into rest on Saturday, May 7, 2011, at Jefferson Hospital.
Born to the late Sara Johnson Peeples and the late Henry Peeples, Mrs. Mauney was a lifelong resident of Jefferson County. She was a member of Wrens United Methodist Church and the McCollem Sunday School Class. She was a homemaker.
Funeral services were held on Wednesday, May 11, 2011, at 3 p.m. at James Funeral Home Chapel. Interment followed in Wrens Memorial Cemetery.
She was preceded in death by her parents; and granddaughter, Lisa Mauney.
Survivors include her husband of 67 years, Charles Fred Mauney; three children, Bobby Mauney of Jefferson, Mickey Mauney of Wrens, and Joanie M. Williford (Dwight) of North Augusta, S.C.; four grandchildren, Michelle Kitchens (Jimmy), Steve Mauney, April M. Standard and Doug Williford; four great-grandchildren, Michael Standard, Ashley Kitchens, Courtney Kitchens and Nolan Kitchens.

Mrs. Lucy B. McCorkle
Mrs. Lucy B. McCorkle, 89, of Thomson entered into rest on Wednesday, May 4, 2011, at McDuffie Regional Medical Center.
Mrs. McCorkle was a native of Warren County, but had lived in Thomson for many years. She had attended Ebenezer Baptist Church. She was a retired secretary and bookkeeper for Dudley Nurseries.
Graveside services were held at 2 p.m. on Monday, May 9, 2011, in Savannah Valley Memorial Gardens, with Dr. Leonard Dupree officiating.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James H. McCorkle; grandson, Jason McCorkle; sister, Mary Crane; and three brothers, Reid Borders, James Dudley Borders and Paul Borders.
Survivors include two sons, Sammy (Gayle) McCorkle and Paul (Bonnie) McCorkle, all of Thomson; sister, Ethel Harris, Washington; two brothers, Jack Borders, Louisville, and John Borders, Warrenton; four grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.

Ms. Janice Jean Robinson, 59, of Brooklyn, N.Y., formerly of Wrens, entered into rest on Saturday, April 30, 2011, at Brookdale University Hospital and Medical Center, Brooklyn, N.Y.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, May 7, 2011, at 2 p.m. at Harts Grove Baptist Church, Stapleton, with Pastor Rev. Dr. W.L. Jones officiating. Interment was in the church cemetery.
Survivors include three sisters, Fay and Betty Robinson, both of Brooklyn, N.Y., and Mary (C.W.) Robinson of Wrens; four brothers, Willis and Fred Robinson Jr., both of Wrens, Herman (Jennette) Robinson of Decatur, and Willie Lee (Annette) Samuel of Columbus; two cousins, Mattie Bell Kemp of Philadelphia, Pa., and Annette White of Brooklyn, N.Y.; 26 nieces and nephews; 35 great-nieces and –nephews; eight great-great-nieces and –nephews; and a host of cousins and friends.

Mrs. Vera Mae Usry, 83, entered into rest on Monday, May 2, 2011, at McDuffie Regional Medical Center.
Funeral services were at 2 p.m. on Thursday, May 5, 2011, in Thomson Church of God, with Rev. Bobby Farmer officiating. Burial was in the Gibson Church of God Cemetery, Gibson.
Mrs. Usry was a native of Jefferson County, but had lived in Thomson for many years. She was a homemaker and a member of the Thomson Church of God.
She was preceded in death by her husband, David Alvin Usry.
Survivors include her three daughters, Martha (Billy) Gay, Thomson, Dorothy Usry, Bath S.C., and Joanne Owens, Fort Worth, Texas; sister, Barbara Holmes, Hurst, Texas; six grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Mr. Charles Edward Ayers
Mr. Charles Edward Ayers, 69, of Martinez entered into rest on Saturday, May 7, 2011, at his residence.
Mr. Ayers was a native of Marion, N.C., and a resident of Martinez. He was an Army veteran, member of Grove First Baptist Church, member and past master of the Grovetown Masonic Lodge #730 and Scottish Rite. Mr. Ayers was a retiree of Columbia Nitrogen as a chemical operator.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, May 10, 2011, in Grove First Baptist Church, Grovetown, with Rev. Frank Thigpen officiating. Interment was held at 2 p.m. at the Moxley Community Cemetery, Moxley, with Masonic Rites and military honors.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Rotha B. Ayers and Theakla P. Ayers; and stepmother, Swannie Ayers.

Mr. Aaron Thomas Brown, 72, of Hephzibah entered into rest on May 10, 2011.
Mr. Brown was a native of Gibson, having made the Augusta area his lifelong residence. He attended New Horizon Church of God and was a retired mechanic at Colonial Baking Company with 42 years of service.
Funeral services were held on Friday, May 13, 2011, at 11 a.m. at Posey Funeral Chapel, with Rev. Floyd E. McComb officiating. Interment was in Bellevue Memorial Gardens.
He was preceded in death by his son, Thomas Michael Brown.
Survivors include his wife of 43 years, Bridgett Brown; a son, Christopher Aaron (Deana) Brown, North Augusta; a daughter, Beth (Chris) Currie, Waynesboro; 10 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.

Mr. Cleveland “Rook” Cowart
Mr. Cleveland “Rook” Cowart, 85, of Bartow entered into rest on Wednesday, May 11, 2011, at the Medical College of Georgia, Augusta.
Mr. Cowart was a native of Emanuel County, the son of the late Robert Allen Cowart and the late Annie Elizabeth Turner Cowart. He was a retired logger for Federal Paper Board. Mr. Cowart was a former cook for William’s Seafood in Savannah and a former school bus driver for the Washington County Board of Education. He was a member and deacon of the Josey Baptist Church.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Friday, May 13, 2011, at Josey Baptist Church, Bartow, with Rev. Inman Gerald and Rev. Bill Snipes officiating. Burial was in the Josey Baptist Church Cemetery.
He was preceded in death by a son, Danny Sheppard.
Survivors include his wife, Barbara Story Cowart of Bartow; children, Peggy Ann Cowart Snipes (Troy) of Bartow, Tommy C. Survivors include his three daughters, Carolyn (Thomas) Turner and Vanessa (Bobby) Dogan, all of Wadley, and Marissa (Patrick) Kelly of Grovetown; three sons, Gary (Hattie) Hall of Louisville, Kevin Hall of Statesboro, and Brian Hall of Wadley; one brother, Albert (Katherine) Hall of Savannah; aunt, Mila Roberson of Louisville; seven grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Mrs. Grace Kitchens Holton, 81, of Gibson entered into rest on Monday, May 9, 2011, at Doctors Hospital, Augusta.
Mrs. Holton was a native of Glascock County. She attended Magnolia Baptist Church and Mt. Zion Congregational Methodist Church, was a member of the State Bowling Team and played high school basketball. She was retired from Thermo King Corp., after 25 years of service.
Funeral Services were held at 1 p.m. on Thursday, May 12, 2011, at Magnolia Baptist Church, with Rev. Stacey Williford and Rev. Al Kurtz officiating. Interment was in the church cemetery.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Alace Moats Kitchens; and two sisters, Mary Bessie Dolly McGraw and Ethel Gray Hinton.
Survivors include her husband of 35 Years, James “Walking Man” Holton; three daughters, Deborah (Pete) Chalker, Tammy (Joe) Cash, and Robin McGraw, all of Gibson; one son, Larry (Yvonne) McGraw of Avera; two stepsons, Jimmy (Cindy) Fulton of Dalton, and Keith Fulton of Washington, D.C.; two sisters, Bobby K. Horton of Augusta, and Dorothy K. Clark of Avera; 12 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and friend, Annette Black.
