Mr. James O. Irwin III
Mr. James O. Irwin III, 67, of Lake Butler, Fla., formerly of Louisville, entered into rest on Saturday, Nov. 23, 2013, at Haven Hospice, Lake City, Fla.
Graveside services will be held on Friday, Nov. 29, 2013, at 2 p.m. at Lowry Cemetery, Louisville, Hwy. 24 E., with Rev. David Boggs officiating.
Visitation will be held on Friday, Nov. 29, 2013, from noon to 1:30 p.m. at Taylor Funeral Home, Louisville.
Mr. Irwin was born in Louisville on Nov. 15, 1947, to James and Claire Irwin of Louisville. He was a graduate of Louisville Academy and the University of Georgia. He had a career in graphic arts and public relations. He was also an owner/operator of a trucking business. He loved restoring cars and motorcycles. He lived in Lake Butler, Fla.
Survivors include his son, Benjamin (Pamela) Irwin; grandsons, Nathaniel, Gabriel and Marshal; and brother, David (Rebecca) Irwin.

Mr. Willie J. “June Bug” Jones Jr.
Mr. Willie J. “June Bug” Jones Jr. of Wadley entered into rest on Tuesday, Nov. 12, 2013, at the VA Medical Hospital, Augusta.
Mr. Jones was a native of Washington County, but later relocated to Jefferson County. He was the son of the late Willie Jake Jones Sr. and Elnora Hilson. Mr. Jones was a member of the Jones Chapel AME Church. For several years he worked with the City of Wadley as a water work and sewage supervisor. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy.
Funeral services were held on Friday, Nov. 22, 2013, at 3 p.m. at Jones Chapel AME Church, with Rev. Perry Davis officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and one brother, Kenneth Jones.
Survivors include his daughter, Whitney Jackson of Augusta; two sons, Cullen Jones of Dallas, Texas, and Trevoron (Nicole) Jones of Garner, N.C.; brothers, David (Betty) Jones of Bartow, and Ransom (Lula Bell) Smith of Brooklyn, N.Y.; sisters, Helen (Henry) Adams of Willingboro, N.J., and Juanita (Robert) Hickson of Wadley; sister-in-law, Mae Sue Jones; grandchildren, Kenaz Henley, D’Amonte Jones, D’Quan Jones, Jordan Jones and Grace Jones; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Mr. Elmer Lane Sr.
Mr. Elmer Lane Sr. of Louisville entered into rest on Monday, Nov. 18, 2013, at University Hospital, Augusta.
Mr. Lane was born Nov. 21, 1927, Monday after the third Sunday to the parentage of the late John and Rosa Whigham Lane. Mr. Lane married
Thelma Davis on Jan. 19, 1946, and to this union 12 children were born. Mr. Lane worked at a saw mill for several years, but later worked at J.P. Stevens, Lewis Steel as a welder, but while employed at these jobs, he also was a mechanic, plumber, carpenter and electrician.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, Nov. 23, 2013, at 4 p.m. at Stone Springfield AME Church, Stapleton, with Rev. Frank Lighten officiating.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and one son, Eddie Lane.
Survivors include his wife, Thelma Davis Lane of Louisville; six sons, Elmer (Gloria) Lane Jr., Erbem (Elsie) Lane, David Lane, Mervin (Josephine) Lane, Sammy (Monica) Lane, Aaron Sherrod (Torria) Lane; five daughters, Dorothy (Frankie) Lighten, Annette (Greg) Simmons, Annie B. (Leon) Smith, LuVondra (Kenny) Booker, and Annie Rose (Clayton) Dawson; brother, John Willie Lane; sister, Fannie Howard; 44 grandchildren; 51 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousin, other relatives and friends.

Mrs. Dorothy Ruth Hefling Paul
Mrs. Dorothy Ruth Hefling Paul, 82, of Athens entered into rest on Nov. 21, 2013.
Mrs. Paul was born in Hutchinson, Kan. Mrs. Paul graduated from Kansas State University with a bachelor of science in humanities English. She started her career as a sports writer and photographer in Chanute, Kan., then worked at the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City in their research and publications division. It was in Kansas City where she met Bill, her husband of 51 years. She retired after many years as an editor at The University of Georgia’s Carl Vinson Institute of Government. Her genealogical interests led her to become an organizing member of the Apalachee Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution.
A memorial service will be held at the Cecil B. Day Chapel of the State Botanical Garden of Georgia at 4 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 1, 2013. Interment will occur at a later date at Coleman Chapel United Methodist Church Cemetery, Wadley, and Valley Township Cemetery, Haven, Kan.
Visitation will be at Lord and Stephens East on Saturday, Nov. 30, 2013, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Arthur William Hefling and Dorothy Pennock Hefling; and a sister, Barbara Jean Hefling Jones.
Survivors include her husband, William D. Paul Jr.; three daughters, Sarah Paul of Kennesaw, Susan Paul of Watkinsville, and Dot Paul of Statham; and several nieces, nephews and cousins from California, Colorado, Kansas, Oklahoma, Texas and Washington.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to the Athens Area Emergency Food Bank, the C.J. “Chief” Medlin Fund for Excellence in Student Publications (Fund no. F79365) at Kansas State University, or a charity of one’s choice.

Mr. Troy R. Robinson
Mr. Troy R. Robinson, 72, of Mitchell entered into rest on Nov. 19, 2013.
Mr. Robinson was a lifelong resident of Columbia County, and was a member of Mill Creek Baptist Church. He was retired from Delta Airlines after 30 years of service.
Funeral services were held on Friday, Nov. 22, 2013, at 1 p.m. at Posey Funeral Chapel, with Pastor Charles Reese officiating. Interment was in Westview Cemetery.
Survivors include his wife of 25 years, Rosemary Robinson; three sons, Jason (Ann) Robinson, North Augusta, S.C., Billy (Courtney) Clements, North Augusta, S.C., and Josh Clements (Ayla Harville), Thomson; two daughters, Diana Ramsey, North Carolina, Jill (Michael) Morgensen, North Augusta, S.C.; seven grandchildren; two sisters, Mary Harrison and Louise Henn, both of Luthersville; and a number of nieces and nephews.

Mr. Charles Richard Walden Sr.
Mr. Charles Richard Walden Sr., 59, of Avera entered into rest on Saturday, Aug. 17, 2013, at Georgia Regents Medical Center, Augusta.
Mr. Walden began his career with E-Z-Go/Textron in 1976. After 25 years of service was inducted into the Quarter Century Club and finished up as a manufacturing paint engineer. He was currently serving on the Board of Directors and previously coached Wrens Dixie Youth Baseball.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Aug. 20, 2013, at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, with Rev. Curtis Thigpen and Rev. Nathan Adams officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, April Rose Walden; and a brother, Wayne Walden.
Survivors include his wife, Emily Ellen Johnson Walden of Avera; parents, Charles and Jenene Walden of Avera; daughter, Angel Walden English (Brent) of Avera; son, Charles “Chase” Walden Jr. of Avera; stepdaughter, Ginger Renee Smith of Blythe; stepson, Evan Tyler Partin of Beech Island; brothers, Keith Walden (Ellen) and Greg Walden (Teresa), both of Avera; five grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Angie C. Wren
Mrs. Angie C. Wren, 51, of Louisville entered into rest on Friday, Aug. 16, 2013, at her residence.
A native of Louisville, Mrs. Wren was a daughter of the late Lester Allen Cobb and Mary Elizabeth Garrett Cobb. She was employed by the Jefferson County Clerk Office and was a member of Old Bethel Baptist Church for more than 30 years, where she had taught Sunday school and served as church treasurer.
Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Aug. 18, 2013, at Old Bethel Baptist Church, Bartow, with Rev. Randy Mimbs officiating. Burial followed in the Louisville City Cemetery.
She was preceded in death by her father.
Survivors include her husband of 17 years, Barry Wren of Louisville; son, Bailey Wren of Louisville; daughter, Ashley (Timothy) Watkins of Louisville; mother, Elizabeth Cobb of Bartow; sisters, Panda (James) Arrington of Bartow, and Leslie (Ernie) Newton of Louisville; grandson, Lane Thomas Watkins; mother-in-law, Nell Wren of Louisville; sisters-in-law, Patricia (Jimmy) Goodwin of Louisville, Dianne (Ralph) Hadden of Gibson; and several nieces, nephews and many friends.

Deacon Sidney J. Williams Jr. of Hephzibah entered into rest at his home on Wednesday, Nov. 28, 2012.
Funeral services were held at noon on Saturday, Dec. 1, 2012, at Oak Grove Baptist Church, Girard.
Survivors include his wife, Evelyn R. Williams; son, Brent Williams, Augusta; mother, Annie V. Williams, Girard; brothers, Lafayette and Wayne, both of Augusta, Calvin, Wrens, and Tommy, Girard; and sister, Sharon Jackson, Girard.

Mrs. Elizabeth Henderson Wren
Mrs. Elizabeth Henderson Wren, 92, of Wrens entered into rest Saturday, Dec. 1, 2012, at Trinity Hospital.
One of three children born to the late Onie Holland Henderson and the late Julian Embrey Henderson, Mrs. Wren lived in Hapeville until the age of 14 when her family moved to Wrens to open the Chevrolet dealership. She was a pharmacy tech employed by Fleming Drug Company and one of the oldest members of Wrens Baptist Church where she was the secretary of the Junior Department for many years.
Funeral services were held at James Funeral Home Chapel on Monday, Dec. 3, 2012, at 3 p.m., with Rev. Dewey Henderson and Rev. J. Scott McKinney officiating. Interment followed in Wrens Memorial Cemetery.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Leroy Watson Wren; and siblings, Craig Henderson and Marie Simpson.
Survivors include her two children, Jane W. Smith (Ray) and Julian L. Wren (Marianne); four granddaughters, Anita Harrelson (Greg), Karla Lopez, Kelli Crackel (Phillip) and Krissi Wren; eight great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; and several nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers were Seth Harrelson, Caleb Harrelson, Colton Lopez, Noah Pitts, Phillip Crackel, Michael Richards, Cliff Hill and David Brannen, with Christian serving as an honorary pallbearer.

Miss Dorothy “Dot” Ruth Tedi Thurman
Miss Dorothy “Dot” Ruth Tedi Thurman entered into rest on Sept. 17, 2012, in Palm Springs, Calif.
Born in Midville, she was the youngest of the four children of Ben and Para Thurman. As a teenager, Miss Thurman discovered a passion for art and drawing and went on to study at the University of Georgia before transferring to the Corcoran Institute in Washington, D.C. Her plans soon changed, however, and she moved to New York City where she found work as a model, represented by Ford Models. Her image was soon seen on the covers of Vogue and Cosmopolitan. During an extended stay in France, she also found work in Paris for Vogue and made a name for herself internationally. Her profile is featured on the opening page of Norman Mailer’s Of Women and Their Elegance. Miss Thurman had a featured role in Ed Wood’s Jail Bait. It was on radio, though, that Miss Thurman became most successful as “Miss Monitor” on NBC’s Monitor show where she made national weather reports. This led to a yearlong engagement as the weather girl on The Tonight Show with Jack Paar beginning in 1957. After retiring from radio and television,
Miss Thurman lived in New York for several years and was involved in real estate development. In the 1980s, Miss Thurman relocated to California where she lived in Los Angeles and Palm Springs. From there, she traveled often and extensively.
Graveside services were held on Saturday, Sept. 22, 2012, at 2 p.m. at the Midville Cemetery, with Rev. Jim Prevatt officiating.
She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Vida Prevatt of Monticello; brothers, Ben and Sidney Thurman, both of Midville; and niece, Linda Waller of Conyers.
Survivors include her longtime companion, Elke Schliwa of Los Angeles, Calif., and Palm Springs, Calif.; and several nieces and nephews, Jim Prevatt, Alice Sudduth, Ben Prevatt, Benny Thurman, Teri Jones, Woody Thurman and Paul Thurman.

Col., U.S. Army (Ret.) Ray Howard Rachels
Ray Howard Rachels, 77, of Alexandria, Virginia, passed away on September 24, 2012, after a long battle with congestive heart failure. He was born September 19, 1935, growing up near Wadley as the eldest son of the late Alvin and Vera Rachels. Howard is survived by his wife Nancy; daughters Heather Rachels, Alexandria and Sheila (Jim) Pearson, Manassas; granddaughters Emily and Rachel Pearson, Manassas, all from Virginia; brothers Ronald and Alan (Dottie) Rachels, Marietta; nephew Nathan (Anne) Rachels, Alpharetta; uncle Lynwood (Barbara) Cox, Macon, all from Georgia.
Colonel Rachels graduated from North Georgia College with a BA in Business Administration. In 1958, he was commissioned in the grade of Second Lieutenant, Transportation Corps and started his career as a Regular Army Officer. He held key assignments in three major fields: Transportation Operations, Logistics Planning/Operations and Personnel Management. He served over 10 years in overseas assignments which included 2 years in Vietnam and one year in Korea while Nancy and family remained at home. Other tours were completed in US Army Europe, Germany.
He was a graduate of the Command and General Staff College, Ft. Leavenworth, Kansas and the Industrial College of the Armed Forces, Ft. McNair, Washington, D.C. His commendations include: the Bronze Star Medal, 2 awards, Defense Meritorious Medal, 2 awards, Air Medal and many other commendation/ribbons earned throughout his career. He was also awarded the Joint Chiefs of Staff Badge for services rendered in the Pentagon.
Colonel Rachels retired with 30 years of distinguished service. He was widely known and respected by his peers and the many soldiers who were honored to be in his command.
Howard is remembered with fondness as the cornerstone of his family. He enjoyed cooking on special occasions and watching Washington Redskins football. Howard leaves a legacy of love and devotion to his family. He was an inspiration to all for serving his country with pride and honor.
Memorial donations may be made to Children’s Hospital, Alexandria, VA. The family will receive friends on September 30th at Demaine Funeral Home, 520 South Washington St., Alexandria, VA 22314. A military service will be held at a later date at Arlington National Cemetery.
Mrs. Sarah Wasden
Mrs. Sara Elizabeth Arrington Wasden, 89, of Keysville entered into rest on Friday, April 6, 2012, with her family by her side.
Mrs. Wasden was a lifelong resident of Jefferson County, and the second oldest of 12 children born to Lillie Mae and Monroe Arrington. She was employed at several garment factories in Richmond, Burke and Jefferson counties and retired from Gracewood State School and Hospital in 1990. Mrs. Wasden had been a member of Wrens Church of God since 1969 and was a Sunday school teacher for toddler-aged children until her health started to fail in 1997. Since that time she resided at Jones Personal Care Home, Martinez, and later at Keysville Nursing Home and Rehabilitation Center, Keysville.
A celebration of her life was held on Sunday, April 8, 2012, at 5 p.m. at James Funeral Home Chapel, with her son, Rev. William Billy Everett Wasden Jr. officiating. Interment followed in the Wrens Church of God Cemetery, Matthews.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 22 years, William Everett Wasden Sr., on Jan. 11, 1969; her parents; oldest sister, Mary Ellen Arrington Templeton McDonald; an infant sister, Katherine Arrington; an unnamed infant brother; and three brothers, James, John and Rouse.
Survivors include her three children, June (Ronald) Wasden Moody of Hephzibah, William Billy Everett Wasden Jr. of Gibson, and Judy Wasden Howard of Evans; four grandchildren, Cindy Moody Howard (Robbie) of Hephzibah, Howie Wasden of North Carolina, Beth Wasden (Will Koth) of Delaware, and Courtney Howard of Evans; great-granddaughter, Vanessa Howard; five siblings, Berry Arrington (Melvie), Helen Arrington Odom, Mildred Midge Arrington Ashby, Marion Bud Arrington (Gail), and Dan Arrington; daughter-in-law, Debbie Benson Wasden; numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews.

Honorary pallbearers were the staff of Keysville Convalescent Center.
