Mr. William E. “Bill” Smith Sr.
Mr. William E. “Bill” Smith, Sr., 75, of North Augusta, SC, husband of the late Mrs. Sara Jean Smith, entered into rest on Monday, March 28th, 2011.

Born in Glascock County, GA, he was a son of the late Lucky D. and Ernestine Swint Smith. He was a resident of Aiken County, SC, for most of his life. He retired from Overnite Transportation Company where he was a dispatcher after 30 years of service. He attended Chime Bell Baptist Church and was a member of the NRA and the Fish-N-Ski Boating Club. He enjoyed repairing small motors and found great peace and serenity while riding his tractor in the country.

In addition to his wife and parents, family members include his children, Toni Fennell (Charles), Augusta, GA, William E. “Billy” Smith (Sherry), North Augusta, SC, Terri Lyons (Michael), North Augusta, SC and Tina Kuhn (Larry), North Augusta, SC; brothers, Ralph Smith (Glenda), Martinez, GA and Ronnie Smith, Mitchell, GA; grandchildren, Traci Herndon, Kayla Smith, Katie Smith, Rachael Lyons, Nicholas Lyons, Justin Lyons, Tiffany (Raymond) Stroud, Jeremy Williams and Sarah Kuhn and great-grandchildren, Blake Herndon, Tia Sapp, Kearra Lyons and Taliea Sattlewhite.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Wednesday, March 30th, 2011, at 10:30 AM in the Hatcher Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Gary Fleetwood and Pastor Dennis Johnson officiating. Interment will follow in Magnolia Baptist Church cemetery in Gibson, GA. Pallbearers will be Nicholas Lyons, Justin Lyons, Jeremy Williams, Blake Herndon, Robert Workman and Raymond Stroud.

The family has asked that memorials be made to Thomas Personal Care Home, 3405 Richmond Hill Rd., Augusta, GA 30906.

The family will greet friends on Tuesday, March 29th, 2011, from 6 until 8 o’clock at the funeral home.

Hatcher Funeral Home & Cremation Service of Langley is assisting the Smith family with arrangements.

Miss Ivor Zulene Swint
Miss Ivor Zulene Swint, 87, of Statesboro entered into rest on Saturday, March 19, 2011, at Ogeechee Area Hospice in Statesboro.

The Glascock County native lived in Augusta most of her life before moving to Statesboro in 1990. Miss Swint was a member of Curtis Baptist Church in Augusta. She was the daughter of the late James T. and Mary H. Swint.

A graveside service was held on Monday, March 21, 2011, at Hillcrest Memorial Park cemetery in Augusta, with Chaplin Steve Darby officiating.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Ruth S. Floyd and Louise S. Cribbs; and one brother, Sgt. James W. Swint of Lake Charles, La.

Survivors include her sister, Frances S. Whiteside; five nieces, Doris Hill, Brooklet, Helen Richey, Roswell, Miriam Silver, Atlanta, Alma Lanier and Mary Katherine Jones, Statesboro; and one nephew, James N. Floyd, Brooklet.

The family requests that memorial contributions be made to Ogeechee Area Hospice, P.O. Box 531, Statesboro, GA 30458.

Joiner-Anderson Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Mr. Prince White
Mr. Prince White, 59, of Atlanta entered into rest on Wednesday, March 23, 2011, at Odyssey Healthcare in Decatur.

Mr. White was a native of McDuffie County, the son of Stella Mae Jackson White and the late Jackson White. He attended McDuffie County School System and joined the Mt. Aldred CME Church at an early age. He later moved to Atlanta, where he worked as a pool builder with Lewis Construction Company.

Funeral services were held on Monday, March 28, 2011, at 1 p.m. at Mt. Aldred CME Church, Stapleton.

Survivors include his mother, Stella Mae Jackson White of Thomson; eight children, Wanda (Dennis Reynolds) Jonesboro, Lisa White, Decatur, Sherry (Gregory Jennings) Atlanta, Charlene White Augusta, Anastasia White, Doretha (Steve Passmore) Jermaine Burley, all of?Norwood, Gary Thomas, Crawfordville?; 21 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; siblings, Roy (Shirley) White, Wayon White, Barbara (Kenneth Harris) White ad Marcus White of Thomson, Rev. Vernon (Jackie) White of Louisville, Jerome (Angela) White and Bobby (Johnetta) White of Montgomery, Ala., Melvin (Yketta) White and Collins White of Norwood, Calvin (Shameka) White of Atlanta; aunts and uncles, Beulah Nealy, Masie Brown, Glennis Moss, Bennie (Betty) Jackson, Gracie White and Essie, all of Thomson, Thelma Jackson, Burine Brown of Wrens, Lula Ruth Brown of Savannah, Wallace (Mary) Jackson, Hubert Jackson, Thomas (Alice) Jackson of Atlanta; and a multitude of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Mrs. Barbara Ann House Newberry
Mrs. Barbara Ann House Newberry, 69, of Wadley entered into rest on Monday, May 3, 2010, at the Medical College of Georgia in Augusta.

Mrs. Newberry, a resident of Wadley for the past 20 years, was born in Fulton County. She was a homemaker and attended Friendship Baptist Church.

Graveside services were held Friday, May 7, 2010, at 11 a.m. at Wadley Cemetery, with Rev. Ray Jenkins officiating.

Survivors include her children, Vickie Ann Mimbs, Jack Roy Adams, Johnny Allen Adams, Phillip Mark Adams, Teresa Gail Adams, Kenneth Raymond Adams and Janice Michelle Power; two brothers, Everett House and Glenn House; a sister, Virginia Lee Gearin; 13 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Rosa Lee Jackson Stuckey
Mrs. Rosa Lee Jackson Stuckey of Wadley entered into rest on Tuesday, May 4, 2010, in Wadley.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, May 8, 2010, at 2:30 p.m. at Brinson Hill Baptist Church, Wadley, with Rev. Dr. David Kemp officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Survivors include her sister, Lannie L (Charles) Hibert, Miami, Fla.; brother, C.J. (Nellie Mae) Jackson, Dublin; caretaker, Shirley Samples, Wadley; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Pallbearers were Willie Randall, Sam Jones, Willie T. Jackson, Arthur Boatwright, Tony Cummings and Willie B. Lewis.

Mr. Charlie “Pap” Tucker
Mr. Charlie “Pap” Tucker, 79, of Louisville entered into rest on Tuesday, May 4, 2010, at a local nursing home.

Mr. Tucker was native of Washington County and retired as a heavy machine operator at Coffee Construction Company. He was the son on the late Willie James Tucker and Daisy Bell Darisaw Tucker and the widow of the late Georgia Ann Brinson.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, May 8, 2010, at 3 p.m. at Hardeman Springfield Baptist Church and Cemetery.

Survivors include friend, Dorothy Stevenson of Louisville; children, Gloria (Ricky) Tucker-Zimmerman, Barbara “Nunie” Tucker and Kimberly Tucker, all of Louisville, and Annie Brinson of Harrison; stepdaughter, Janice Hills of Louisville; children that he reared as his own, Dorothy Ann Stevenson and Betty Jean Stevenson, both of Louisville, Sandra (Lewis) Cunningham of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., and Mitchell (Deborah) Walden of Charlotte, N.C.; brothers and sister, Willie James (Eloise) Miller of Louisville, Ruby (Marzell) Miller of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., Agnes (Lloyd) Francis of St. Petersburg, and Lutisha Taylor of Sandersville; sister-in-law, Annie Lou Tucker of St. Petersburg; aunt, Minnie Lou Darisaw of Louisville; 25 grandchildren, 47 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Mrs. Bernice Young Van Arsdale
Mrs. Bernice Young Van Arsdale, 95, of Wrens, formerly Shohola, Pa., entered into rest on April 2, 2010, at the home of her nephew Robert Young in Harrisville, Utah.

Interment will be at the Young-Poole cemetery later this year.

Mrs. Van Arsdale served as a registered nurse and held the rank of 1st Lieutenant in the U.S. Army Nurse Corps during World War II. She was a member of Wrens United Methodist Church, VFW, and American Legion.

Mrs. Van Arsdale was preceded in death by her husband, Robert Van Arsdale.

Survivors include her nieces and nephews, Rupert Pate Jr. of Lawrence, Kan., Jill Culp of Salisbury, Md., Bernie Pate of Leavenworth, Kan., Mary Lou Cook of Colmesneil, Texas, Evelyn Lawrence of Evans, Robert (Pat) Young of Harrisville, Utah, Brenda Mann of Vienna, Va., and James Wright of North Augusta, S.C.

Mrs. Hazel Phillips Barnes
Mrs. Hazel Phillips Barnes, 87, of Thomson entered into rest on Sunday, May 9, 2010, in the McDuffie Regional Medical Center.

Mrs. Barnes was a native of Glascock County, but had lived in Thomson for many years. She was retired from Sears and Roebuck Company as a credit manager. She was a member of the Thomson First Baptist Church.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, May 12, 2010, at Curtis Funeral Home Chapel, with Dr. James Ramsey officiating. Burial was in the Savannah Valley Memorial Gardens.

Survivors include her daughter, Barbara Gay, Lawrenceville; son, Charles Barnes, Thomson; four grandchildren, Deborah Suzanne Buhite, Michael John Gay, Charles David Barnes and Terri Beth Clynes; two great-grandchildren, McKenzie Clynes and Avery Clynes; and two friends, Lois Reese and Dot Branch.

Curtis Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Mary Ola Walker Braddy
Mrs. Mary Ola Walker Braddy of Wadley entered into rest on Monday, May 10, 2010, in Augusta.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, May 15, 2010, at 2 p.m. at Peaceful Zion Baptist Church, Wadley, with Rev. Willie Dawson officiating and assisted by Rev. Vincent Miller. Burial was in Pineola Church of God Cemetery, Wadley.

Survivors include her husband, Roley Braddy Sr.; three sons, Roley (Yvonne) Braddy Jr., Reginald Braddy and Steven (Catina) Braddy, all of Augusta; mother, Eva Walker, Wadley; three sisters, Eva W. Brooks and Bertha Walker, both of Wadley, and Nella Mae Wadley, Swainsboro; two brothers, Roy Walker, Bartow, and Larry Walker, Jacksonville, Fla.; one sister-in-law, one brother-in-law, 11 grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.

Pallbearers were Malcolm Heggs, Anthony Allen, Darin Habersham, Shaun Habersham, Brandon Johnson, Calvin Williams and Melvin Williams Jr.

Mrs. Elizabeth Stinson Holmes
Mrs. Elizabeth Stinson Holmes, 90, of Louisville entered into rest on Sunday, May 9, 2010, at Jefferson Hospital.

Mrs. Holmes was born Sept. 1, 1919, in Dublin, a daughter of the late Daniel Webster and Alice Fuqua Stinson. She was a homemaker, wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and a member of First Baptist Church of Louisville.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 15, 2010, at the chapel of Taylor Funeral Home, with Rev. Larry Johnson officiating. Burial was at 2 p.m. on Saturday in Dublin Memorial Gardens, Dublin.

She was preceded in death by her parents and husband of 64 years, Y. H. Holmes.

Survivors include son, Y. Lynn (Elizabeth) Holmes, Carrolton; daughter, Susan (Steve) Dehnen, Fort Pierce, Fla.; grandchildren, Randa (Bruce) Honaker, Vidalia, Dawn (Mike) Walker, Macon, and Alice (Colby) Huff, Athens; great-grandchildren, Bruce Honaker, Raiden Honaker, Alexa Honaker, Amelia Honaker, McKenzi Walker, Garrison Walker, Hunt Walker and Merrin Huff; and several nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers were Colby Huff, Bruce Honaker, Mike Walker, Jimmy Stinson, Terry Stinson and Don Williams.

In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the First Baptist Church of Louisville, 101 East 9th Street, Louisville, GA 30434.

Mr. Edward Huntley
Mr. Edward Huntley, 60, of Atlanta entered into rest on Wednesday, May 12, 2010, at Vista Care after a lengthy illness.

A native of Jefferson County, Mr. Huntley was baptized and became a member of Jones Grove Baptist Church at an early age. He was educated in the Jefferson County School System. He traveled the world as a commercial roofer for 32 years, 17 years with McDonald Installation and 22 years for The Stallar Groups.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Monday, May 17, 2010, at Jones Grove Baptist Church in Louisville, with Rev. Jerry Dudley presiding and rev. Chavis Boyd officiating.

Survivors include his wife, Jocelyn Huntley of Atlanta; children, Keith Huntley, Chantay Oaks, Carlos Kent (Maxine), Reginald McBride (Belisa), Ketuana Evans, Lisa Ruiz (Jason) and Malika Winchester; siblings, Margie Boyd, Catherine Roberson, Handy B. Huntley, Manda Boyd (Larry), Loretta West and Kurt Thompson, all of Louisville, and Maxine Macon of Augusta; mother-in-law, Merrill Bacon; sister-in-law, Joyce Bennett; aunts and uncle, Fannie B. Houston, Narcissa McBride and Ben Huntley Sr., all of Louisville; 12 grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Mr. Ike Johnson Jr.
Mr. Ike Johnson Jr., 92, of Louisville entered into rest on Monday, May 17, 2010, at Glendale Nursing Home.

Funeral services will be held at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday, May 22, 2010, at Union Bethel Baptist Church in Louisville, with Rev. Bobbie Williams Sr. officiating, Rev. Eugene Walden, Rev. E.C. Climes and Rev. Alvin Simpkins assisting. Interment will be in the Jordan Place Cemetery.

Mr. Johnson was born in Jenkins County, son of the late Ike and Clara Blake Johnson Sr. He was a member of Union Bethel Baptist Church, where he served as chairman of the Deacon Board. He was a retired farmer and a U.S. World War II Army veteran.

Survivors include his wife, Betty Johnson; children, Dora Alleyne of Palm Beach, Fla., Lillie M. Louisaint of White Plains, N.Y., Olin Whited (Gloria) of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., Shirley Taylor (Bennie), Gladys Collins (Charles) and Catina Thomas of Midville, Regina Williams (Herman) of St. Petersburg, Fla., Johnny McGee (Bobbie Jean) and Ike McGee (Beulah) of Millen, Ricky McGee (Debbie) of Wadley, and Horace McGee (Veronica) of Vidette; sister, Lucy Johnson of Louisville; stepchildren, Rosezetta Padigtti and Barbara Smith of Atlanta, and Walter Johnson of Standford, Conn.; brother-in-law, Ben Huntley Sr. of Louisville; sisters-in-law, Flora Williams of Fort Lauderdale, Fla., and Carrie Morgan of Davisboro; 36 grandchildren, 38 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Mrs. Doris Farrer Price Williford
Mrs. Doris Farrer Price Williford, 83, of Wrens entered into rest on Friday, May 14, 2010, at her residence.

Mrs. Williford was the oldest member of The Vine Community Church in Thomson and was a past member of Gibson United Methodist Church. She was a homemaker.

Funeral services were held in the James Funeral Home Chapel on Sunday, May 16, 2010, at 3 p.m., with Rev. Keith Kurtz and Rev. Griffin Thompson officiating. Interment followed in the Magnolia Baptist Church Cemetery, Gibson.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Sterling Willifrd; parents, Nellie Gay and Asa Farrer; children, Shirley P. Johnson and Jerry Price; three grandchildren, Greg Price, Artie Price and Tammy Heath; and three siblings, Tressie Hardy, Mary Chance and Buddy Farrer.

Survivors include two sons, Paul Price (Dale) Gibson, and Harold Price (Laura Mae) Warrenton; a brother, Jimmy Farrer (Pauline) Graniteville, S.C.; a sister, Betty Ann Kemp; 10 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; several nieces and nephews; and many friends.

Pallbearers were her grandsons, Doug Price, Chris Price, Keith Price, Rodney Price, and great-grandsons, Price Simpkins, Jared Price, Will Price, Lewis Watkins and Lyle Watkins.
