Mr. Loring A. “Bud” Rachels Jr.
Mr. Loring A. “Bud” Rachels Jr., 66, of Bartow entered into rest on June 6, 2010.

Mr. Rachels was a life-long resident of Bartow, a member of Nails Creek Baptist Church and a retired truck driver.

Memorial services were held on Thursday, June 10, 2010, at 3 p.m. at Williamson Swamp Creek.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Loring and Myrtle Bowen Rachels Sr.; and a brother, Martin Bowen Rachels.

Survivors include his wife of 31 years, Della Raines Rachels.

Posey Funeral Directors was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Barry Gibson Rivers
Mr. Barry Gibson Rivers, 57, of Warrenton entered into rest on Monday, June 7, 2010, at the Medical College of Georgia after an extended illness.

Mr. Rivers a native of Richmond County, spent his childhood in Glascock County and had moved to Warrenton from Milledgeville where he lived for over 40 years. Mr. Rivers received a masters degree in psychology and worked in that field at Central State Hospital, but most recently was a antique dealer and appraiser. He was a member of the Warrenton First United Methodist Church.

Memorial services were held at 2 p.m. on Sunday, June 13, 2010, at Warrenton First United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Jim Hanna officiating.

Mr. Rivers was preceded in death by his father, L. R. Rivers.

Survivors include his wife of 22 years, Cindy Rivers; one daughter, Shelby Rivers; mother, Ann Van Gibson Harris; one brother, William Rivers; father and mother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. C.K Little.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Barry Rivers Memorial Fund, C/O Habersam Bank, 189 Legion Drive Warrenton, GA 30838.

Lowe Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Ethyl B. Smith
Mrs. Ethyl B. Smith, 96, of Louisville, formerly of Greenwood, S.C., entered into rest on Monday, June 7, 2010, at Heritage Healthcare of Old Capital.

Graveside services were held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, June 12, 2010, in Edgewood cemetery at First Baptist Church, Greenwood, S.C., with Dr. J. William Harris officiating.

Mrs. Smith was born March 18, 1914, in Greenwood, S.C., to the late M.G. and Mamie Algary Bowles. She attended Lander College, where she received a degree in education and retired after many years of teaching in Greenwood, S.C., and Augusta. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Augusta.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a daughter, Susanne DeVore; three sisters; and two brothers.

Survivors include nephews, Thomas E. (Mary Anne) Armistead of Louisville, Frank B. (Shirley) Armistead of Cumming, Joel C. (Eileen) Armistead of Lilburn, William H. (Gam) Foster of Buford, S.C., and Brent Bowles of Orange City, Fla.; niece, Grace Bowles (Pat) Dennis of Buford, S.C.; several great-nieces and -nephews.

In lieu of flowers the family suggests, make contributions to the church of ones choice.

Mrs. Doris Elaine Wade
Mrs. Doris Elaine Wade, 55, of Thomson entered into rest on June 7, 2010, at the Medical College of Georgia.

Ms. Wade, daughter of the late Willie Wade and the late Louise Bell Wade, was born in Richmond County, but had lived in Thomson most of her life. She was a homemaker and attended Faith Baptist Church in Thomson.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, June 10, 2010, at the Beggs Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Don Widener officiating.

Survivors include her children, James Matthew Strickland, Tommy Story Jr. and April McCoy, all of Thomson; brothers, Matthew Wade of Gibson, and Jeff Wade of Thomson; sisters, Nancy Stewart and Diane Elizabeth Wade, both of Thomson, Blanche Pritchard of Waycross, Annette Martin of Augusta, and Esther Timmerman of Harlem; four grandchildren; and ex-husband and friend, Tommy Story Sr. of Thomson.

Beggs Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Arthur Lee Baker
Mr. Arthur Lee Baker of Wrens entered into rest on June 9, 2010.

Funeral services were held at noon on Saturday, June 19, 2010, at Ways Grove Baptist Church, Wrens, with Rev. Jimmy McCullough III officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Survivors include his mother, Ruby Baker of Wrens; son, Randall D. Baker; granddaughter, Tykeria Baker of Dublin; goddaughter, Rikala Baker; five sisters, Willie Eva Baker, Bobbie Lee Boatwright and Alberta Baker, all of Wrens, Bernice Johnson of Louisville, and Emma Baker of Augusta; two brothers, Wash Baker Jr. of Louisville, and Herman (Helen) Baker of Orlando, Fla.

Burnett Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Francia Wong Evans
Mrs. Francia Wong Evans, 76, of Augusta entered into rest on Saturday, June 12, 2010, at the Eisenhower Army Medical Center.

Mrs. Evans was a native of Panama, but had lived in Augusta for many years. She was a homemaker and Catholic by faith.

Graveside services were at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, June 16, 2010, in the Bellevue Memorial Gardens with Father Michael Lubinsky officiating.

Mrs. Evans was preceded in death by a son, Andy Gene Evans.

Survivors include her daughters, Myrella E. Smith, Evans, Nola Mae Blansit, College Park, and Dollie Evans Burckhalter, North Augusta; two sons, Mikiel Lee Evans, Avera, and Jacob Lee Evans III, Grovetown; sister, Evelia (Everett) Wardensky, Florida; grandchildren, Teresa Lynn Evans, Mikiel Lee Evans Jr., Brandon Christopher Smith, Briggy General, Crystal Burckhalter and Camden Evans; and great-grandchildren, Liam Jacob Smith and Madison Grace Evans.

Mrs. Mary Jordan Faglie
Mrs. Mary Jordan Faglie of Moore, S.C., entered into rest on June 12, 2010.

Mrs. Faglie was born June 4, 1915, to Tommy Ivey Jordan and Addie Pearl Kitchens in Glascock County. She was a homemaker who lived most of her adult life in Evans, and in 2002 moved to Spartanburg, S.C. She was a member of First Baptist North Spartanburg. She was married to the late Pleas C. Faglie Sr.

A memorial service will be held at First Baptist North Spartanburg, Spartanburg, S.C., on June 19, 2010, at 4 p.m.

Survivors include her three children, Mary Ann Faglie, Spartanburg, S.C., Laine F. Schreiber (Tobias), Spartanburg, S.C., and Pleas C. Faglie Jr. (Marti), Little Mountain, S.C.; nine grandchildren and 17 great-grandchildren; sister, Ivelyn J. English, Stapleton; and the sister of the late Dorsey Jordan, William H. Jordan, and Fred Jordan. She also is survived by several nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Interim Health Hospice of Spartanburg, S.C., 775 Spartan Blvd. 101B, Spartanburg, S.C. 29301.

Mr. Herbert “Herb” H. Kniphfer
Mr. Herbert “Herb” H. Kniphfer, 69, of Augusta entered into rest on Tuesday, June 15, 2010.

Mr. Kniphfer had resided in the Augusta area for the past seven years and attended Marks Baptist Church. Mr. Kniphfer was a welder by profession, owned and operated Herb’s Welding Service and worked for many years with Garrett’s Paving in Athens.

A memorial service was held on Thursday, June 17, 2010, at 6:30 p.m. at 1720 Forest Creek Court, Augusta, with Pastor Hal Hodgens officiating. Mr. Kniphfer was laid to rest Thursday morning at Gumlog cemetery in Kite.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Betty Wren Kniphfer.

Survivors include daughters, Scarlett Teresa Kniphfer Clark (L.C.) of Bartow, and Angelia K. Barrow (Hugh) of Augusta; granddaughter, Natasha Wren Mason (Billy) of Dublin; sister, Carolyn Griffin of Lyons; and mother-in-law, Elizabeth C. “Boots” Wren of Swainsboro.

In lieu of flowers the family asks that memorial contributions may be made to Marks Baptist Church, 1405 Marks Church Road, Augusta, GA 30909, or Stepping Stones to Recovery, 2610 Commons Blvd, Augusta, GA 30909. Thomas Poteet and Son Funeral Directors were in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Charles Walter Marsh

Mr. Charles Walter Marsh, 58, of Gibson entered into rest on Wednesday, June 16, 2010, at the Medical College of Georgia, Augusta.

Mr. Marsh was a native of Jefferson County, but lived in Glascock County for many years. He was a member of the Gibson Church of God and was retired from the Gulf Life Insurance Company and AGLS Insurance Company as an insurance agent.

Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. on Friday, June 18, 2010, at the Gibson Church of God, with Rev. Steve Lamb and Rev. Stacy Williford officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Edith McNeely and Ralph W. Marsh.

Survivors include his wife of 26 years, Kathryn Lampp Marsh; two daughters, Ann (Buddy) Cantrell and Nancy (Steve) Hardin, both of Mitchell; one stepdaughter, Faye (Kelley) Post of Grovetown; two stepsons, Ricky Coxville of Gibson, and Scotty (Julie) Coxville of Appling; one brother, Donald Marsh of Swainsboro; two sisters, Sharon (Tony) Colvin of Wadley, and Marie (Bobby) Stevens of Hay Market, Va.; five grandchildren, Aldon, Keri and Allie Cantrell, and Wesley and Emily Hardin; nine step-grandchildren and six step-great-grandchildren; and Sierra Youngblood.

Pallbearers were Gary Usry, David Kitchens, Ed Shepherd, Calvin McCoy, Ralph Kitchens and Frank Youngblood, Jr.

Memorials may be made to the Gibson Church of God in care of Marie Dye, 5372 Magnolia Church Road, Gibson, GA 30810.

Mr. Willie Clyde Neely
Mr. Willie Clyde Neely of Augusta entered into rest on Friday, June 11, 2010, at Amara Health Care.

Graveside services were held on Thursday, June 17, 2010, at 10 a.m. at Thankful Baptist Church, Gibson, with Rev. Leroy Hudson officiating.

Survivors include three sisters, Maude Williams, Rochester, N.Y., Gladys Pitts, New Jersey, and Annie Shanks, Columbia, S.C.; nieces, Virginia Daniels and Mary Daniels, both of Thomson, and Choicey Young, Warrenton; nephews, James Daniels, Augusta, and Charlie Daniels, Thomson; and a host of great-nieces and -nephews.

Williams Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Rollin “R.T.” Rogers
Mr. Rollin “R.T.” Rogers, 85, of Martinez entered into rest after an extended illness on Wednesday, June 16, 2010.

Mr. Rogers was a Christian. He was a member of Riverview United Methodist Church. He retired as supervisor from Lily-Tulip after 37 years. Mr. Rogers trained Tennessee Walking horses and bird dogs.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, June 19, 2010, at noon at the Chapel of Thomas Poteet and Son, with Rev. Elton Lawson officiating. Interment was in Hillcrest Memorial Park.

He was preceded in death by his daughter-in-law, Cathy H. Rogers.

Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Adele C. Rogers; sons, Dale Rogers (Pat) of Grovetown, and Alan Rogers (Becky) of Matthews; daughters, Nancy Rogers Street (Danny) of Evans, Lorene Rogers Clark (Sammy) of Martinez, Elaine Rogers Daniel (Mike) of Evans, and Terri Rogers Dailey (Danny) of Evans; granddaughters, Stephanie Street Nichols, Jamie Clark, Natalie Daniel Gay and Kristen Dailey; 10 great-grandchildren; and sister, Mary Rogers Babin of Prairieville, La.

Pallbearers were his grandsons, Ryan Daniel Street, Jason Thomas Rogers, Brian Alan Rogers, Christopher Wayne Rogers, Eric Wayne Clark, Michael Patrick Daniel and Joshua Wayne Dailey.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made to Trinity Hospice Memorial, St. Joseph Foundation, Inc., P.O. Box 31358, Augusta, GA 30903, or Riverview United Methodist Church Building Fund, 1244 Furys Ferry Road, Evans, GA 30809.

Mr. Gardell Flournoy
Funeral services for Mr. Gardell Flournoy, 72, of Warrenton were held on Saturday, June 26, 2010, at 11 a.m. at Fellowship Baptist Church, Mitchell, with Pastor Rev. John A. Lockhart and Rev. Robert Smith as eulogists. Interment was in the church cemetery.

Thomson Funeral System was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. James R. “Jim” Gheesling Sr.
Mr. James R. “Jim” Gheesling Sr., 82, of Augusta entered into rest on Saturday, June 26, 2010.

Mr. Gheesling was a native of Warren County, and had lived in Augusta since 1941. He was a member of Hillcrest Baptist Church and had served in the United States Navy. He was retired from Macy’s after 26 years, then from the Medical College of Georgia after 15 years.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday, June 29, 2010, at 11 a.m. at Hillcrest Baptist Church, with Dr. L. Gordon Robinson officiating. Interment was in Hillcrest Memorial Park.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Annie W. Gheesling.

Survivors include daughter, Diane G. Mundy (Tony) of Harlem; son, James R. Gheesling Jr. (Cathy) of Wrens; grandchildren, Chip Davis, Brandy Gheesling Prescott, Trey Gheesling, Tony Mundy Jr., Denise Canteli and Emily Lamp; and great-grandchildren, Isabelle, Harriotte and Cora Anne Davis, Anna Kate Prescott, Tony Mundy III, Luke Kelly, and Nicholas and Anabelle Canteli.

Pallbearers were Ronnie Gheesling, Wayne Gheesling, Chip Davis, Trey Gheesling III, Michael Prescott and Tony Mundy Jr.
