Mrs. JoAnn Holley Prescott
Mrs. JoAnn Holley Prescott, 75, of Matthews entered into rest on Sunday, March 28, 2010, at her residence. Mrs. Prescott was the sixth of nine children born to the late Mary Wheeler and James “Jim” Holley and was a lifelong resident of Jefferson County. After graduating Wrens High School, she worked at Stapleton Garment Company for 12 years, after which she worked at Fort Gordon retiring with 40 years of service. Funeral services were held at James Funeral Home Chapel on Wednesday, March 31, 2010, at 3 p.m., with Rev. Billy Duggan and Dr. James M. Ford officiating. Interment followed in Mt. Horeb Baptist Church Cemetery. She was preceded in death by her husband, Elbert Nathan “E.N.” Prescott; brother, Jimmy Holley; and sister, Peggy H. Strickland. Survivors include two children, Wylie G. (Dolores) Prescott and Julie P. (Darrell) Nickles; siblings, W.C. “Dub” (Clyde) Holley, Wrens, Audrey H. (Fred) Bowles, Statesboro, Margie L. James, Joyce H. Williford and Don (Jane) Holley, all of Harlem; a sister-in-law, Ruby T. Holley; six grandchildren, Mindy P. (Nick) Wilcher, Kimberly Prescott, Heath Prescott, Blake Prescott, D.J. Nickles and DeWayne Nickles; three great- grandchildren, Corbin Wilcher, Samuel Wilcher and Holley Wilcher; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Pallbearers were nephews, Kenneth Holley, Mike Bowles, Raymond James, Wade Williford, Brett Holley and Jason Holley. Memorials may be made to Parkinson’s Disease Foundation via internet at www.pdf.org, or 1359 Broadway, Ste 1509, New York, NY, 10018. James Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Beatrice Jones Tremble
Mrs. Beatrice Jones Tremble of Louisville entered into rest on Saturday, March 20, 2010, at an Augusta Hospital. Mrs. Tremble was a native of Jefferson County, the daughter of the late Sam Jones and Eunice Patterson Jones. She was educated in the public schools of Jefferson County and was a member of the Pine Hill Baptist Church, but also served at the Magnolia Baptist Church beside her husband. Funeral services were held on Saturday, March 27, 2010, at 11 a.m. at Pine Hill Baptist Church and Magnolia Baptist Church Cemetery. Survivors include her husband, James Tremble of Louisville; children, James Otis (Carolyn) Tremble, Dorothy Tremble (Alfornia) Tennyson, Milton (Mary) Tremble and Jesse (Denise) Tremble, all of Louisville; stepchildren, Tommie (April) Mack, both of Louisville, and Valerie (Terries) Peeples of Wrens; foster children, Mozella Grant, Wanda James, Donnell James and Curtis James, all of Louisville, and Otis Lee Blair of Wadley; 38 grandchildren and 34 great-grandchildren; and a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Davis Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Lottie Way
Mrs. Lottie Way of Augusta entered into rest on March 19, 2010. Funeral services were held Thursday, March 25, 2010, at 11 a.m. at Ward Chapel, with Rev. James Lawson officiating. Interment was in Flat Rock cemetery in Wrens. C.A. Reid Sr. Memorial Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. William Brooks Todd Jr.
Mr. William Brooks Todd Jr., 87, of Sandersville entered into rest on Monday, March 8, 2010, at the Heritage Inn Nursing Home.

Mr. Todd was born in Glascock County, the son of the late William Brooks Todd Sr. and the late Bessie Mae Poole Todd. Mr. Todd was a former long-time resident of Warrenton, where he was the owner and operator of Todd’s Car Care for 28 years. He was member of the Friendship Baptist Church in Glascock County where he served as a deacon and church treasurer. After moving to Sandersville, Mr. Todd was the co-owner of the Fashion Gallery along with his wife, Lavo.

Funeral services were held on Wednesday, March 10, 2010, at 2 p.m. at the May and Smith Funeral Home Chapel, with Rev. Tommy Harwell, Rev. Jimmy Harris and Rev. Jim King officiating. Burial was in Brownwood Cemetery.

Survivors include his wife, Lavo H. Todd of Sandersville; daughter, Joyce T. Weigle (Philip) of Augusta; granddaughter, Patrice W. Johnson (Aaron) of Macon; and great-grandchildren, Brooks A. Johnson and Lucas G. Johnson.

Pallbearers were John Wood, Allen Underwood, Charles Anderson, David Anderson, Allen Hawkins and Jimmy Hawkins.

Honorary pallbearers were David Harper, Tucker Hinesley, Joe Smallwood, Jim McMichael, Ray Toulson, Stevie Wood, Oscar Stapp, Ken Burnette and Willis Johnson.

Donations may be made to the American Heart Association 1105 Fury’s Lane Suite D, Augusta, GA, 30907, or to the Parkinson Association 2708 W. Terrace Dr., Augusta, GA, 30909.

May and Smith Funeral Directors were in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Otis "Bish" Boatwright Jr.
Mr. Otis “Bish” Boatwright Jr., 75, of Wrens entered into rest on Saturday, Dec. 1, 2007, at Jefferson County Hospital.

Funeral services for Mr. Boatwright were held on Tuesday, Dec. 4, 2007, at 2 p.m. in the funeral home chapel with Rev. W. L. Jones, officiating. Interment was in the Spring Bethel A.M.E. Cemetery, Louisville.

Survivors include his mother, Daisy B. Smith, daughter Betty Ann Boatwright, both of Wrens; sister, Ida M. Brooks of Louisville; brother, Lenzy Boatwright, Wrens; two grandchildren, Tawanda Ross and Derrick Lane both of Wrens; 13 grandchildren, five nieces, one nephew and a host of cousins and friends. Freeman Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Baran Lyron Boyd
Mr. Baran Lyron Boyd, 31, of Statesboro died Sunday, Dec. 2, 2007, at his residence after an illness.

Funeral services for Mr. Baran “Red” Lyron Boyd, 31, of Statesboro were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 8, 2007, at Canaan Galilee Baptist Church in Louisville, with Rev. Robert Stokes officiating. Interment was in the Lone Star Cemetery.

“Red, ” as he was known by family and friends, was a native of Jefferson County, but had lived in Bulloch County for a few years. He was a 1996 graduate of Jefferson County High School and also attended Savannah State Univesrity and was a two-year veteran of the United States Army.

Survivors include his mother, Mary Boyd of Statesboro; father, Cleo Boyd Jr. of Altheimer, Ark.; sister, Ebony Boyd of Sacramento, Calif.; brother, Randy Boyd and Dexter Boyd of Statesboro; maternal grandmother, Leona Williams of Louisville; paternal grandmother Lois Boyd; one niece, four nephews, several uncles, aunts, cousins and friends.

Honorary pallbearers were Deacons and Trustees of Cannan Galilee Baptist Church.

Active pallbearers were members of the Jefferson County High School class of 1996.

Mrs. Mary Frances McGraw Bussey
Mrs. Mary Frances McGraw Bussey, 66, of Martinez died Sunday, Dec. 9, 2007, at Doctors Hospital in Augusta.

Mrs. Bussey, formerly of Jefferson County, had lived in Martinez for the past five years. She was retired from banking and a member of Moxley United Methodist Church.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Troy and Carrie McGraw and a nephew, Eric Salter.

Funeral services were Wednesday, Dec. 12, 2007, at 11 a.m. at Moxley United Methodist Church with Rev. Ruth Lovejoy officiating. Interment followed in the church cemetery. There will be a visitation and memorial service from 6-8 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 13, 2007, at the Riverview United Methodist Church, 1244 Fury’s Ferry Road, Evans.

Survivors include her daughter, Renate Bussey (Tyler) Grose of Summerfield, N.C.; son, Kevin R. Bussey of Pleasant View, Tenn.; grandson, Brandon Tyler Grose of Summerfield, N.C.; two sisters, Betty M. Arthur of Wadley and Patricia M. (Tom) Cain of Lakewood, Ohio; niece Velvet (Robert) Mathis of Gibson; nephew, Michael Cain of Albertson, N.Y.; great nieces, Whitney and Samantha Salter; great nephews, Cody Mathis and Adam Cochran.

Pallbearers were Robert Mathis, Lee Clark, Brad Barbee, Fred Parkman, Wynder Smith, Charles Smith Jr. and James Kelly.

Smith Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Jack Millard Davis
Mr. Jack Millard Davis, 66, of Louisville died Friday, Dec. 7, 2007, in the Heritage of Old Capital.

Private services will be held at a later date.

A native of Amarillo, Texas, Mr. Davis was the son of the late Philip Richard and Catherine Ritchey Davis. He was a United States Navy veteran and a retired salesman.

Survivors include his sister, Patricia (Lynford) Garland of Jenkinsburg. Taylor Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.

Mrs. Ollie M. Hayden
Mrs. Ollie M. Hayden of Mitchell died on Thursday, Dec. 6, 2007.

Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 12, 2007 at The House of God, The House of Prayer For All Nations, Inc., Mitchell, with the Dr. Elder A. H. Nolley officiating. Interment was in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Hayden united with the church in 1984 and served faithfully, crossed many journeys as a Watch Keeper, working in the Feast, keeping the doors of the church open while serving God.

Survivors include husband, Elder David M. Hayden; daughters, Shelia Jones, Sharon Archie, Selina Hawkins, Tonia Banks, Denise Archer, and Tanisha Hayden; 19 grandchildren, 15 great- grandchildren; sisters, Annie Ruth McDowell (Otis), Atlanta, Barbara Woods (James), Jacksonville, Fla.; brothers, Herman Peavey and Clinton Peavey, Asbury Park, N.J., Robert Peavey and Horace Peavey, Atlanta, and Ralph Peavey of Anniston, Ala.

Dawson’s Mortuary was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Demond Jackson Sr.
Mr. Demond Jackson Sr., 32, of Waynesboro entered into rest on Tuesday, Nov. 27, 2007, at the Medical College of Georgia.

Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 1, 2007, at Summerstand Outreach Church in Midville, with Pastor Jerome Prophet officiating. Interment was in the church cemetery.

Survivors include his wife, LaTrisha; three children, Demonica Aliyah, Laila Demaya, and Demond Jr., all of Waynesboro; one brother, Solomon McReed; mother, Lillian McReed; father, Emanuel McReed, all of Midville; grandmother, Vallie Mae Danford, Wadley; one sister-in-law, Lakisha Evans; two brothers-in- law, Christopher Cobb and Fred Evans Jr.; in-laws, Helen and Fred Evans Sr., all of Waynesboro.

Phinazee and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Mr. William Andrew James
Mr. William Andrew James, 49, of Augusta entered into rest on Saturday, Dec. 1, 2007 at the Medical College of Georgia.

Graveside services were held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Dec. 5, 2007, in the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church Cemetery, Avera.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the American Diabetes Association, P.O. Box 11454, Alexandria, Va. 22312.

Chance and Hydrick Funeral Directors were in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Robert H. "Bobby" Langham
Mr. Robert H. "Bobby" Langham, 77, of Stapleton died on Dec. 6, 2007.

Mr. Langham grew up in Thomson and was a plumber and electrician by occupation.

Funeral services were held Sunday, Dec. 9, 2007, at 2:30 p.m. at Harmony Springs Mennonite Church, 11065 Sand Valley Road, Avera, with Ministers Verle Giesbrecht, Danver Nichols and Maynard Peters officiating.

Pallbearers were Denis Koehn, Josh Hodgin, Clay Miller, Stuart Goossen, John Edmonds and Scott Hodgin.

Survivors include his wife Shirley Langham; two daughters, Cheryl Hodgin, and Phoebe (Eugene) Goossen all of Stapleton; one sister, Ludelle (Joe) Wheeler of Evans; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Gospel Tract and Bible Society, P.O. Box 700 Moundridge, Kansas, 67107.

Mrs. Janie Neal Roberson
Graveside services for Mrs. Janie Neal Roberson, 87, of Augusta were held on Saturday, Dec. 8, 2007, at 11 a.m. at Williams Grove Baptist Church cemetery with Minister Mike McCormick officiating.

Survivors include four sisters, Barbara A. Upton of Mitchell, Edna Jones of Grovetown, Margie West and Lillie Harris, both of Thomson; two sisters-in-law, Eliza Hogan and Mattie Beard, both of Augusta; one brother-in-law, Glenn Beard of Augusta; a devoted nephew, Willie (Mary) Neal of Warm Springs; two devoted nieces, Mattie Harris of Gibson, and Rubertha Norris of Thomson; a host of other relatives and friends.

Thomson Funeral System was in charge of the arrangements.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, Nov. 28, at noon at Stone Springfield AME Church with Rev. Michael Ephram officiating. Interment was in the church cemetery.

Survivors include his wife, Mary Ann Clark Brown; four sons, Dwayne (Belinda) Richardson, Clifford Brown Jr., James (Tangerae) Brown, Anthony Brown; five daughters, Cathy (Duke) Flowers, Clorissa Brown, Barbara (Chuck) Patterson, Sabrina (Mike) Thomas and Annette Smith; six brothers, Thomas Brown, James Brown, Donnie (Connie) Brown, Bill (Sherri) Brown, Robert Irby Brown and St. John (Melissa) Irby; seven sisters, Carrie Calderia, Lula (James) Gardener and Betty (James) Felder, Mary (Sheldon) Randolph, Shirley (James) Thomas, Helen Irby, Annette Brown and Sharon Irby; grandmother Jessie Bell Brown; 21 grandchildren; and 11 great grandchildren.

Mrs. Sally Mae Jenkins, 84, wife of the late James Jenkins, and the daughter of the late Oscar General Irby and Sammie Mae Williams Irby, entered into rest Nov. 30, 2007, at Doctors Hospital.

Funeral services were Monday, Dec. 3, at James Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Brian LaFavor and Rev. Dean Cartin officiating. Burial followed at the Harlem Memorial Cemetery.

Mrs. Jenkins was a member of Lake Park Baptist Church in Augusta and a homemaker.

Survivors include, a son, Melvin Don Beasley; two daughters, Linda Kirkland and Vickie Wallace; two brothers, Elis P. Irby and Keelin Irby; two sister Christine Akin and Eunice B. Wilson; seven grandchildren, Donnie Beasley, Delora Beasley, Duane Tucker, Eric Norton, Kevin Wallace, Steven Tucker, and Stephanie Cartin; 12 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild.

Pallbearers were Gene Garner, Steven Tucker, Duane Tucker, Jerry Akin, Danny Akin, Kevin Wallace, Dennis LaFavor and Eric Norton.
