Mr. Curtis Moore
Funeral services for Mr. Curtis Moore of Thomson were held Monday, Oct. 22, 2007, at the Greater St. James A.M.E. Church at 3 p.m. with the Rev. Dr. George. R. Lasure officiating and Rev. Henry Andrews as Eulogist. Interment was in the Society Cemetery, Mesena.
Survivors include his mother, Mary Alice Brown; father, Sim (Beater) Moore Sr., both of Thomson; two sisters, Lizzie Babbs-Samuels, Thomson, and Jesse Mae Moore; four brothers, Larry (Paulette) Lampkin, Columbus, Ohio, Sylvester Moore, Hinesville, Mike Casey, Wrens, and Sim Moore Jr., Brunswick; a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Mr. John Wayne Stevens
Mr. John Wayne Stevens, 65, of Pooler died on Friday, Oct. 19, 2007, at St. Joseph’s Hospital.
Mr. Stevens was born in Jefferson County to Joseph and Ida Stevens. He was a member of the Pooler First Baptist Church. He was employed with the City of Savannah as the water/sewage supervisor and was formerly employed with Forstmann and Company in Jefferson County for 32 years. He was a charter member of the Pooler American Legion, a Past Master of the Stonewall Masonic Lodge #98 in Louisville, a past member of the Daughter’s of America where he was past state counselor and he was the secretary of the Pooler Crossroads Chamber of Commerce.
The funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 22, 2007, in the chapel of Thomas C. Strickland and Sons Funeral Home with burial following at Gravel Hill Cemetery.
Survivors include Anne Smith and Princess of Pooler; children, Lynn (Andy) Farrow of Bartow, Susan Stevens of Bartow, Dewayne Stevens of Bartow, John (Shawn) Stevens of Hephzibah and Glenn Smith of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; grandchildren, Ashley Farrow, Brandon Farrow, Brittany Stevens, Amber Stevens, Kimberly (Brad) Johnson and Hollie (Jeff) Hart of Pooler; great-grandchildren, Ethan, Evan and Eric Johnson; mother, Ida Stevens of Wadley; brother, Danny (Ruth) Stevens of Wadley; sister, Donna McNeely of Wadley and several nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Wyonia Matthews Tremble
Funeral Service for Mrs. Wyonia Matthews Tremble, age 90 of Washington D.C. who entered in to rest on Oct. 5, 2007, formerly of Stapleton, was held on Saturday, Oct. 13, at 2 p.m. at the Stone Springfield A.M.E Church, Stapleton with the Rev. Michael G. Ephraim Sr., Pastor, presiding and Rev. Raymond T. Matthews, eulogist. Interment was in the church cemetery.
Mrs. Tremble was the loving daughter of the late Charlie and Eula Matthews. She later met and married
the late Ollie Tremble. Wyonia was baptized at an early age at Stone Springfield A.M.E. Church, Stapleton. The Trembles relocated to Washington, D.C., in 1947.
One grandson preceded her in death, James Fowler.
Survivors include one daughter, Joyce (Alfred) Fowler; three sons, Ollie Leon Tremble Jr., Charles Tremble, and Samuel (Betty) Tremble all of Washington, D.C.; three grandchildren, Cheryl, Alfred Jr., and Shantae; six great grandchildren, Pierre, Aleisha, Anki, Lamonte Jr., Taylor, and Camiya; one sister, Eula Mae Hannah, of Jersey City, NJ, one aunt Jessie Bell Brown of Wrens.

Mr. Ronnie Joe Albea Sr.
Mr. Ronnie Joe Albea Sr., 56, of Hephzibah, entered into rest on Sunday, Oct. 7, 2007, at University Hospital.
Mr. Albea was a native of Washington, but had made Augusta his home for most of his life. Mr. Albea had served his country in the Army and the National Guard. He had three times been the Past Post Commander of the American Legion, Post 178, and was a member of the VFW #649. He was a retired painter and of the Baptist faith.
A visitation was held on Tuesday, Oct. 9, from 3 p.m. until 5 p.m. at Chance and Hydrick Funeral Directors.
He was the husband of Mrs. Marcia Stewart Albea, of Hephzibah.
Mr. Albea was the son of the late Benjamin Oliver Albea and was preceded in death by his son, Jamie Albea Griffith, and a brother, Charles F. Albea.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Marcia Stewart Albea of Hephzibah; his son, Ronnie “Ron” Joe Albea Jr. of Hephzibah; step-son, Joseph “Jody” L. (Julie) Skinner III of Waynesboro; daughters, Candace Albea of Martinez and V. Michelle “Shelley” (Wayne) Stewart of Gibson; mother and step-father, Josephine Stewart and Cecil Shelton of Gibson; step-mother, Annette Albea of Augusta; brothers, Bennie (Catherine) Albea of McBean, Robert (Bobbie) Albea of Gibson, Wade (Carol) Albea of Hephzibah, Jerry (Geraldine) Albea of Stapleton, and David (Stacy) Albea of Edgefield, S.C.; half-sister, Jennifer (Rocky) Cross of Evans; step-brothers, Cecil (Patsy) Shelton of Stapleton and Emory (Vickie) Shelton of Hephzibah; step-sister, Elaine (James) Atkins of Hephzibah; as well as seven grandchildren.

Mr. David M. Habersham, of Louisville, entered into rest on Monday, Oct. 8, 2007, at the Medical College of Georgia.
Funeral services were held on Saturday, Oct. 13, at 1:30 p.m. at Ebenezer Baptist Church, Vidette. Pastor Tommy L. Johnson officiated. Interment was in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Ora Harlem
Funeral services for Ms. Ora Harlem of Shreveport, La., were held Saturday, Oct. 13, 2007, at noon at the Wesley Chapel CME Church, Pinceton, La.
Ms. Harlem was a native of Louisiana and taught in the Jefferson County public schools system for a number of years.
Survivors include her siblings, including Lee Doris (Willie) Smith and James Fuller of Louisville.

Mr. Nathaniel "Shang" Johnson
Mr. Nathaniel “Shang” Johnson of 229 Stevens Street, Wadley departed this life Sunday, Oct. 7, 2007, at the Glendale Nursing Home.
Funeral services were held Saturday, Oct. 13, 2007, at 2 p.m. at the New Fleming Baptist Church and Cemetery.
“Shange” or N.J., as he was known to most, was a native of Jefferson County. He was the son of the late Primer and Bessie Johnson. He was a faithful member of the New Fleming Baptist Church. He worked as woodman all of his adult life.
Survivors include his wife of more than 75 years, Sallie Mae Jackson Johnson of Wadley; his children, Mattie “Maggie” Bell Palmer of Wadley, Joyce (Otis) Mason of Connecticut, Eddie (Doris) Palmer, Willie James (Joan) Palmer, T. J. (Constance) Palmer all of New York, Willie Albert (Shirley) Palmer of Dale City, Va.; a host of loving nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Mr. Buford E. Williams, Sr., 73, of Gibson, entered into rest Saturday, Oct. 13, 2007 at University Hospital in Augusta.
Mr. Williams was a native of Jefferson County, a member of the Gibson Church of God, and an Army Veteran.
The funeral was held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 17, 2007, at the Gibson Church of God with Rev. Steve Lamb officiating. Interment was in Stapleton Baptist Church Cemetery.
Survivors include five sons, Buford E. Williams, Jr. of Chester, Danny Williams of Wrens, Sammy Williams of North Augusta, John Williams of Indiana, and Robert Williams of Iraq; two daughters, Doris Lyvers of North Carolina and Audrey Sheppard of Eatonton; two stepsons, Timothy Harris of Indiana and Daniel Harris of Indiana; two stepdaughters, Lois Harrison of Buford, and Debra Dresch of Illinois; three brothers, Kenneth Williams of Keysville, Cecil Williams and Joseph Williams, both of Augusta; two sisters, Mary Hall of Augusta and Margaret Payton of Texas; 25 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Mr. Leonard Fowler of Sandersville, died on Wednesday, Oct. 10, 2007, at Heritage of Old Capitol Nursing Home in Louisville.

Mr. Willie Lee Ruff
Mr. Willie Lee Ruff, 59, of 1037 Hodges-Jackson Road departed this life Friday, Oct. 12, 2007, at a local hospital.
Funeral services will be held Friday, Oct. 19, 2007, at 2 p.m. at the Pine Hill Baptist Church.
Mr. Ruff was a native of Jefferson County, the son of the late Clifford Sr. and Annie “Sweetie Mae” Ruff. He was a member of the Pine Hill Baptist Church. Willie worked as a heavy machine operator with International Paper Company for over 34 years and as a D.J as “Fairlane Willie” from Mobile, Ala. for more than 25 years.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Alice Ruff of Louisville; his children, Kelvin Johnson, of Columbus, Ohio, and Kimberly Ruff of Louisville; his siblings, Lessie (Eli) Harmon, Betty Ruff, Myrtice (Rudolph) Nesbitt and Ethel (Simon) Boatwright, all of Louisville, Marion Ruff of Ft. Mrs. Janie Jenkins Taylor
Mrs. Janie Jenkins Taylor, 89, passed away departed this life Thursday, Oct. 4, 2007, at the McAuley Nursing Center in Urbana, Ohio.
A graveside service was held Saturday, Oct. 13, 2007, at 11 a.m. at the New Jones Grove cemetery in Louisville.
Mrs. Taylor worked as a nurse and maid for the late Mr. and Mrs. Warren Grimes before she retired. Mrs. Taylor was also a member of the Jerusalem Second Baptist Church in Urbana, Ohio, where she served until her illness. She was born Sept. 1, 1918 in Burke County, the daughter of the late Lenton and Alice Washington Jenkins. She was preceded in death by her husband, brother and sister.
Survivors include her son, Marvin Lee Taylor of Urbana, Ohio; a host of nephews, nieces, including, Daisy Walker and Larkin Williams of Columbia, S.C., Alice Green and Johnnie Levon Williams of Atlanta; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Mrs. Mildred Newsome Waters
Mrs. Mildred Newsome Waters, 69, died Friday, Oct. 5, 2007.
Mrs. Waters was a native of Jefferson County, and had made her home in Baldwin County for the past 37 years. She was retired from Meadows Industries, the daughter of the late Sol Carter and Addie Faircloth Newsome. She was a member of Freewill Fellowship Church.
Services were at 11 a.m. Monday, Oct. 8, at Williams Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Frank Simmons, the Rev. John May and the Rev. Bruce Lance officiated. Burial was at 1 p.m. in Washington Memorial Gardens.
Survivors include her husband, I.J. Waters of Milledgeville; two daughters, Cara Davis and husband John of Milledgeville, Becky Waters and Larry Griffin of Wrightsville; three sisters, Frances Meadows of Wrens, Shirley Brown of Milledgeville, and Dorothy Durham of Frankston, Texas; a brother, Harold Newsome of Augusta; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Margie Horton Butler
Mrs. Margie Horton Butler, 76, entered into rest on Thursday, Oct. 11, 2007, at her residence.
Mrs. Butler was a member of Windsor Heights Baptist Church, where she played the piano for more than 30 years. She had also played piano for The Kingdom Heirs and The Southern Gospel Singers Quartets.
Funeral services were held 2 p.m. Monday, Oct. 15, 2007, at Elliott Sons Funeral Home, with Rev. Rowland Galloway and Chaplain George Holcombe officiating. Interment was in Hillcrest Memorial Park.
Pallbearers were Christopher Alston, Jimmy McPeake, James Kitchens, Chris McAlister, Keith Shomber, Brad Pierce and Ryan McAlister.

Mr. Harold Jackson
Mr. Harold Jackson, 66, entered into rest Sunday, Oct. 14, 2007, at the Burke Medical Center.
He was born in Waynesboro on Sept. 25, 1941, to the late John Jackson and Rena Mae Sapp Jackson. He has lived in this area all of his life. He retired as a foreman at the Sunbeam Industry, formerly known as Kellers. He was currently the owner and operator of H & S Lawn Service. Mr. Jackson was of the Baptist faith.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, Oct. 16, 2007, at 3 p.m. in the Chapel of DeLoach-Kennedy Funeral Home, Waynesboro. Interment followed at Burke Memorial Gardens.
He was preceded in death by three brothers, John Jackson Jr., Richard Jackson and Charlie Claxton; and a sister, Georgia Hill.
Survivors include his wife of 29 years, Shirley Lariscy Jackson; son, John Thomas Jackson of Waynesboro; two daughters, Lisa Frawley (Ricky) of Millen, and Crystal Jackson of Waynesboro; brother, Jack Jackson of Waynesboro; four sisters, Barbara Claxton Eskew of Waynesboro, Johnnie Mae Lariscy of Hiriam, Sara Fail of Waynesboro, and Patricia Clark of Louisville; five grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
